Liverpool have made a strong start under new head coach Arne Slot in the Premier League and can now turn their attention to other matters as their players compete internationally.

Despite the international break, Liverpool continues to be active. Entering the first pause of the season with a perfect Premier League record and no goals conceded, Arne Slot can reflect on his early tenure and prepare for a busy schedule ahead.

Next on the agenda is a match against Nottingham Forest, followed by the start of their Champions League campaign, where they will first travel to San Siro to face AC Milan. With several key players away on international duty, Slot hopes to avoid any new injury concerns over the next 10 days.

With the transfer window now closed, Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes can address remaining business matters. Mirror Football explores some of the latest updates from Anfield.

Netherlands boss hails Gravenberch’s metamorphosis

Ronald Koeman has praised Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch for showing progress at Liverpool, after previously expressing concerns about his commitment. Koeman noted that Gravenberch had exhibited some laziness, but he appears to be overcoming these issues.

Koeman commented: “It might be a bit of confidence that he gains. He started earlier than some other internationals. Maybe the penny will drop now. We have always seen a lot of potential in Ryan. A lot of people, including me, thought that some of his concentration, his laziness, could be improved. It seems he realises what is required of Liverpool’s midfield in the Premier League. If a player is given the confidence or the opportunity, then it can be the push in the right direction.”

Fresh contract talks

Reports suggest that Liverpool are preparing to begin contract discussions with Mo Salah. The Egyptian star is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and has had a stellar start to the season, with three goals and three assists.

After Liverpool’s victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, Salah indicated it might be his final season with the club. He told Sky Sports: “I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’. Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’. I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

Liverpool are now set to initiate talks with Salah about a new contract, having previously focused on allowing Arne Slot to acclimate to the club. Discussions are expected to commence ‘soon’.

Adding an Academy player

Although the transfer window is closed, Liverpool are still working on adding to their academy. Rio Ngumoha, who left Chelsea earlier in the summer rather than signing scholarship terms, is anticipated to join Liverpool.

The club has yet to confirm Ngumoha’s arrival, but it is reported that they are progressing through the Premier League’s five-step registration process with no reported issues. According to the Blood Red Podcast, Ngumoha is expected to join Liverpool’s youth team in the coming two weeks.
