Live coverage of Jurgen Klopp's press conference: Alisson, Mac Allister, Matip, and updates on Liverpool's injuries and transfers

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, will give a preview of tomorrow’s Premier League matchup with Crystal Palace this morning.

Greetings and welcome to our live coverage of Liverpool’s most recent press conference, led by Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have the opportunity to take the lead in the standings, at least momentarily, when they return to Premier League play early on Saturday at Crystal Palace. Arsenal will play Aston Villa in the evening and will be back at the top.

Joel Matip, a defender for Liverpool, suffered an ACL tear and is likely to be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign. Ibrahima Konate is therefore anticipated to continue playing with Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence.

Updates regarding the fitness of Thiago Alcantara, Andy Robertson, Diogo Jota, Alisson Becker, Alexis Mac Allister, and Stefan Bajcetic are also probably to come from Klopp. As updates from Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre are provided by correspondent Theo Squires, keep checking back.

Klopp on a possible centre back

“Is it flawless now? As long as those four [centre-backs] are still available. If not, the number of upcoming games will make it a little trickier. Bringing in a world-class centre back while the other is recovering is never a guarantee of success. As long as other clubs don’t leave them under the tree for us and tell us to take them and use them for however long we need them, that is… Since we hadn’t experienced that issue for five days, I hadn’t given it any thought. To be honest, I don’t think so.”

Klopp on if Liverpool need to buy a new centre-back after Matip injury

“You usually talk about transfers as like they’re the simplest thing ever. They’re all expensive, thus the perfect player is needed. There are four centre backs left. Tell me about a team that is looking to sell a quality center-half. Tell me one, please.”

Klopp on Van Dijk form

“The world’s greatest defender is Virgil. Did he have less lucky charms? Indeed. Find me a person who has never had. Rio Ferdinand: Was he ever flawless? Jaap Stam? Hyypia Sami? There was and never will be anyone. He is really significant.

Klopp on managing the workload of new signings

“Dom is a football player for his country. Wataru is in the same boat. It’s not an issue. I never considered the possibility that this midfielder lacked international experience. All we need to do is slip that into a Liverpool shirt and head out.”

Klopp on if this Liverpool team is ahead of schedule

“I wanted to build a foundation early in the preseason because you have to overcome obstacles to become a true team. We were down 1-0 when that was delivered, complete with red cards. Without that, I don’t know where we would have ended up. All I can say is that I’m pleased with the progress made thus far. Some of the biggest names in international football have to be replaced.”

Klopp on battle at the top

“It appears to be a little unusual. With ten points separating first and second, City is not at the top of the standings. Arsenal is performing incredibly well. Aston Villa is a very powerful team. United is around, not that I’m following them. We could even have a few more points, but we don’t. We simply aim to be ready for the next game by getting ready.”

Klopp on Hodgson

“He is an amazing person, so I’m glad I got to meet him in the Premier League. I often ask him, “What are you doing here?” when I see him.

Klopp on the chance to go top tomorrow

“Our goal is to win the match. There is no need to put more pressure on Arsenal to play Aston Villa. Our task is to oppose Crystal Palace. We wish to pursue the points because we need them.”

Klopp on whether new Matip contract is possible

“Although it’s not my choice, I would argue that there is a chance for a new arrangement.”

Klopp on Matip

“I have a good feeling the club will display their class. Given how things stand after that, Joel and I need to decide.”

Injury latest

“Alisson has a nice appearance. Not sure if this will be sufficient for tomorrow. Macca is not attractive. We must observe daily. Let’s see how he manifests himself. He won’t be prepared for tomorrow, in my opinion.”
