report and complimentary match highlights as Liverpool take the lead in the Premier League once again; Diogo Jota scored the first goal, followed by a fantastic header from Burnley’s Dara O’Shea; Vincent Kompany loses his cool when Luis Diaz’s goal is left standing; Darwin Nunez secures points with a late header.
Liverpool defeated Burnley 3-1 to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League in front of a record crowd at Anfield.
Erling Haaland’s double in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory against Everton had put the Reds ahead of them earlier in the day, but 59,896 spectators roared Jurgen Klopp’s team back in top by two points.
However, Burnley, who were seven points from safety, gave them a serious worry after Dara O’Shea’s incredible header at a corner just before halftime had put the hosts ahead thanks to Diogo Jota.
Early in the second half, Luis Diaz gave Liverpool the lead again, but the goal was flagged for offside after a protracted VAR review. Additionally, Burnley manager Vincent Kompany may have fouled Aaron Ramsey during the build-up, resulting in a booking.
David Datro Fofona, a Chelsea loanee, then squandered two excellent opportunities to tie the score for Burnley before Darwin Nunez headed a late header into the left corner to seal the victory.

How Liverpool came back to the top
The visitors got off to a promising start as Caoimhin Kelleher, starting in goal for Liverpool in place of the injured Alisson, made a brilliant stop with his right hand early on to deny Zeki Amdouni, who had broken into the area past Virgil van Dijk.
Just after the half-hour mark, Liverpool took the lead against the flow of play despite their slow and careless play. Goalkeeper James Trafford was drawn off his line by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner, but he was unable to stop Jota’s header into an empty net.
News for the team:
Alisson, the custodian for Liverpool, was out sick and was replaced by Caoimhin Kelleher. Jarell Quansah replaced Ibrahim Konate, who was placed on suspension.
Andy Robertson had his first start since October due to Joe Gomez’s illness as well. Wataru Endo will start in midfield after his return from the Asia Cup.
With Lyle Foster out of the lineup, Burnley’s on-loan striker David Datro Fofana made his debut.
Hannes Delcroix and Maxime Esteve also replaced Vitinho and Hjalmar Ekdal.
That spurred the home team into action, as Trafford denied Diaz from close range before Klopp was given a yellow card for his outcry that Jota should have been given a penalty after going down in the box under Hannes Delcroix’s pressure.
However, Burnley scored the equaliser their performance deserved right before halftime. O’Shea’s head drove Josh Brownhill’s outswinging corner from 12 yards into the upper right corner.
Harvey Elliott replaced Alexander-Arnold at halftime, although Liverpool was unaffected by the substitution as the second half began. With Burnley requesting that the goal be disallowed by VAR, Diaz quickly nodded in from the substitute’s low cross.
However, Burnley had a chance to tie the score when Fofana broke through, but Kelleher made a fantastic save to keep him out. Wilson Odobert then missed the follow-up, and a few moments later, Fofana had another fantastic opportunity, but he missed the goal with only the custodian to beat.
After Jarell Quansah’s shot went just wide of the left post and Trafford parried from Jota, Burnley was unable to prevent Liverpool from scoring again when Nunez skillfully scored with his head. Even though he was supposed to have a second in extra time, he aimed right at the goalie.
