Liverpool and Arsenal discover Martin Zubimendi’s transfer intentions ahead of January window

Liverpool and Arsenal have been the top two teams in the Premier League this season.
Both clubs, currently in the title race, will look to strengthen their squads during the January transfer window in an effort to gain an edge in the competition.
Arne Slot’s team is in a stronger position at present, sitting at the top of the league with a seven-point lead.
Meanwhile, Arsenal appear to have regained their form after a recent dip in performance.
One player both clubs have been linked with for some time is Martin Zubimendi, a midfielder for Real Sociedad.
The Reds nearly secured his signature during the summer transfer window, but Zubimendi ultimately decided to stay at his boyhood club, revealing the reason for his decision afterward.
Now, according to Graeme Bailey’s report in TBR Football, Zubimendi is set to remain at Real Sociedad during the January window.
This is a significant setback for both Premier League clubs, who have been keen on signing the Spain international.
Zubimendi, who helped his country win Euro 2024 this year, is one of the most sought-after midfielders on the market.
In addition to Liverpool and Arsenal, Manchester City are also monitoring him, as per the report.
The Premier League champions are looking for a replacement for the injured Rodri, and Zubimendi fits the profile to take over from his fellow Spaniard at the Etihad.
Liverpool and Arsenal also face competition from Real Madrid
Zubimendi’s delay in leaving La Liga is reportedly due to his desire to join the Spanish giants, Real Madrid.
The La Liga champions admire the midfielder, and Zubimendi is eager to work with Xabi Alonso, who is expected to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu soon.
The battle for Zubimendi could intensify in the coming months, as he would be an ideal addition for all of the interested clubs.
At Arsenal, he could replace Thomas Partey, while at Liverpool, he could be the defensive midfielder that Slot seeks for his squad.
However, Real Madrid is currently leading the race to sign him, which spells bad news for the Premier League clubs.
