On Monday, a footballer from Liverpool signed a new deal.
Afolami Onanuga has signed his first professional contract at Anfield, as reported by the club’s official website. The 17-year-old has advanced through the age stages from under-11 to the current under-18 group under Marc Bridge-Wilkinson.
After being seen playing grassroots football in Manchester, the boy was signed by the Merseyside club, and he can now formally declare that he plays football full-time.
Onanuga, sometimes known as “Fola,” is a gifted player who links the game well and appears to have a positive impact in the offensive third. He has been capped by England at the under-15 level, according to Liverpool’s official website.
In September, he set up Trent Kone-Doherty’s game-winning goal in the 4-2 victory against Blackburn during his five appearances in the Under-18 Premier League. Last month, he made his debut at the under-21 level during the EFL Trophy match against Blackpool on the road (Transfermarkt).
Along with the aforementioned Irish attacker, Trey Nyoni, another under-18 standout, inked his first professional deal last week, suggesting the Reds have a few more bright prospects in the works.
In light of today’s historic announcement for the 17-year-old, perhaps Onanuga can make the same breakthrough to the first squad that players like Ben Doak, Stefan Bajcetic, and Jarell Quansah have done over the last 12 months.
More news…….
As Liverpool’s transfer concerns subsided, Jarell Quansah just confirmed Jürgen Klopp’s correctness once more.
Liverpool’s finest performer as the Reds advanced to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals was Jarell Quansah, who is justifying Jürgen Klopp’s optimism.
As Jürgen Klopp has dubbed it, Liverpool 2.0, is fully underway. Following their dismal 2023–24 season, the Reds have gotten off to an almost flawless start this time around.
They are chasing a top spot in the Premier League alongside Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City, are looking to end the Europa League season on a high and are currently in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
A 2-1 win at Bournemouth sent the Reds to safety on the south coast despite dire conditions.
Meanwhile, results elsewhere have opened the door to this final race. With Manchester City, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United already eliminated, the way is clear for Liverpool to return the trophy to Anfield early.
It’s been a good start to the season, with Klopp’s summer rebuild proving successful so far.
But there are doubts among some supporters.
At the start of the season, Manchester United’s defense looked shaky. Liverpool can’t break their habit of saying no first, and their decision not to sign a new defender felt like a gamble.
But Klopp probably knew what was in store.
And Jarell Quanza against Bournemouth showed why fans can be more confident.
The 20-year-old was outstanding defensively against Cherries and made just his fourth start for the senior side. His courage and composure were only affected by the blizzards and heavy rains he encountered.
So far this season, Quanza has not disappointed when he got the call from Liverpool.
Even after receiving an emergency call-up against Wolves and progressing on the European stage, he showed maturity beyond his years and gave the manager confidence.
“It’s part of the development.
If you’re not ready for [the physical fight], it’s hard to play senior football, to be honest.” Klopp had this to say after Cuansa’s match with Union SG last month: “But I had no doubt he was ready for it. It’s all because of him.
“It wasn’t a difficult decision for us to have him in the lineup tonight.”
Liverpool’s defense has been more consistent than previous displays, with Virgil van Dijk finding his best form in recent games against Everton and Nottingham Forest, and Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip providing healthy competition to partner the Dutchman.
Predicted. With Kwansa’s support, the signs for the rest of the season are certainly encouraging.
It surely relieves some of Klopp’s strain as the January window approaches. Although some first feared, he will still have a new defender at the top of his buying list.
There will be more challenging exams ahead, especially as the holiday season draws closer. However, Quansah’s performance against Bournemouth suggested that Klopp may already have a candidate to replace Van Dijk and Matip in the long run
