Liverpool appear to be making moves to bolster Richard Hughes' department

Liverpool appear to be making moves to bolster Richard Hughes’ department with two new additions. Hughes, who arrived at Anfield this summer, joined Michael Edwards, the newly appointed chief executive of football under FSG. This shift has triggered some reshuffling within the club’s structure.

As part of their recruitment strategy, Liverpool have already brought in Pedro Marques and welcomed the return of Julian Ward. The club’s focus has also turned towards securing future talent, with notable signings such as Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer. Now, as revealed exclusively by Anfield Watch, Liverpool is pursuing a deal for Stefanos Tzimas, a player who could further enhance their youth development.

Liverpool’s intent to expand its scouting network has become more evident. Following a recent report that Liverpool is seeking a scout in Scandinavia—where they discovered Momodou Sonko while he played in Sweden—the club’s recruitment strategy is clear. There’s also been interest in El Hadji Malick Diouf, a player who first gained attention in Norway.

Now, the club has confirmed these moves themselves, posting two job listings on their official LinkedIn page. One is for a scout in Spain and Portugal, while the other seeks a scout for Holland and Belgium. This marks a significant step in Liverpool’s evolving recruitment approach.

The strategic focus on these regions is particularly telling. Spain, Portugal, Netherlands, and Belgium have long been renowned for producing top talent. These nations are key destinations for young players aiming to break into the top European leagues, making them prime areas for Liverpool’s scouting efforts.

With Edwards at the helm, Liverpool is positioning itself to identify and nurture the future stars of football, building a portfolio of young talents to eventually integrate into the first team. This shift mirrors a model that has worked well for Brighton, who have enjoyed notable success in recent transfer windows. For Liverpool, this could signal an exciting new era in their player recruitment strategy.

Agent Confirms: ‘He Will Stay’ Amid January Liverpool Exit Rumors

Liverpool first-team assistant coach John Heitinga has attracted interest from managerless West Bromwich Albion.

Heitinga’s agent has confirmed that the Liverpool coach will remain at Anfield for the remainder of the season, despite interest from West Bromwich Albion. The former Everton defender joined Liverpool in the summer as part of new head coach Arne Slot’s backroom staff.

Before joining Liverpool, Heitinga had managed Ajax and most recently worked alongside his former Everton boss, David Moyes, in the coaching team at West Ham United.

His experience and positive impact at Liverpool — who are currently six points clear at the top of the Premier League, leading the Champions League, and advancing to the League Cup semi-finals — have made him a target for Championship club West Brom.

West Brom, who are aiming for promotion to the Premier League, have been without a manager since Carlos Corberan left to take charge of La Liga side Valencia just before Christmas.

However, their efforts to bring Heitinga to the Hawthorns seem unlikely to succeed. His agent, Rob Jansen, was quoted in De Telegraaf stating: “John will definitely stay at Liverpool this season.”
