Liverpool decide on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future following talks with Real Madrid
Share
Reports suggest that Liverpool will not allow right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave this month, despite renewed efforts from Real Madrid to complete a deal.
As Alexander-Arnold enters the final six months of his contract, Madrid attempted to negotiate a discounted transfer on the first day of the January window. However, Liverpool made it clear they had no intention of agreeing to a January move.
Madrid has reportedly continued discussions with the player, and it’s believed they have reached a summer free transfer agreement with him. This led to another attempt in January, as Madrid sought to sign him immediately to address their defensive injury crisis.
However, MARCA reports that Liverpool has once again insisted they will not let Alexander-Arnold leave before the window closes. Not only do they want to retain such an important player while pushing for both the Premier League and Champions League titles, but Liverpool’s strong financial position means they are not tempted by Madrid’s proposal of around £20m.
Although rejecting Madrid’s latest bid leaves Liverpool vulnerable to losing Alexander-Arnold for free in the summer, there is a belief at Anfield that the right-back’s contribution to a potential title-winning season is worth more than Madrid’s offer.
Madrid now appears to have accepted that they will finish the season with their current squad, much to the private frustration of manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Liverpool supporters are increasingly confident that the club has already re-signed two of their key players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season.
The futures of Virgil Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been major topics of discussion this season, with all three set to see their Anfield contracts run out in the summer.
Currently, these players can negotiate with foreign clubs and will become free agents when the summer transfer window opens. Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler has now shared his thoughts on the situation.
He told Amazon Prime: “I do have a little theory actually, and I don’t know if this is so far from the truth. I just think two of them have signed already, you know? For some reason, and maybe one hasn’t.
“The simple fact is the club can’t come out and say, ‘You have signed’ and the other one hasn’t, because it makes the other one look worse.
“There’s a possibility that may have happened. If two of them have signed and they come out and say, ‘We’ve signed them’ it puts so much pressure on the other one.”
Although Liverpool has yet to make any official statements regarding the trio’s contracts, fans are inclined to believe Fowler’s words.
Supporters feel that the club might be “protecting Trent from public pressure,” speculating that Van Dijk and Salah have already agreed to new terms.
Robbie could be right yanno, Salah & Virgil may have signed but they are encouraging and hoping for Trent to complete the trio. This photo by Mo can't be a coincidence, he's sending out a cryptic message. #Liverpool #LFC https://t.co/3XgRnImSsJ pic.twitter.com/n2jvJ9z159

This is what I've been saying for the past month. Although I don't see how that stays quiet. It's all to protect Trent why everything is being put on hold. https://t.co/63SspsAbLa
