Liam Delap

Liverpool has a history of signing players from struggling Premier League clubs.

Some of their best signings have come from teams near the bottom of the league, including Virgil van Dijk from Southampton, who is now considered a world-class defender, and Andy Robertson from Hull City, one of their most successful recent acquisitions.

Georginio Wijnaldum joined after Newcastle’s relegation, and Diogo Jota came from Wolves.

Now, Liverpool might be eyeing another player in a similar situation.

According to Ben Jacobs on NUFC Matters, Liverpool is among the clubs discussing a potential move for Liam Delap from Ipswich Town.

Liverpool have talked about Liam Delap

Jacobs spoke about Delap’s current position and the clubs vying for his signature, with Chelsea being the favorites to secure the £20m striker. Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United, and Liverpool have all shown interest.

“I don’t think Newcastle can get Delap, to be honest. The player seems pretty set on leaving Ipswich, even if they manage to stay up.

“There’s strong interest from Chelsea, and Tottenham may also join the race. I think he’ll have options in London, which could appeal to the player.

“Clubs like Newcastle, Manchester United, and Liverpool have all considered Delap, but nothing has progressed there. Manchester City has a buyback clause, but I have no information suggesting they plan to use it.

“For Delap, it seems Chelsea are the frontrunners right now, as they decide between him and Sesko.”

Delap’s impressive performances this season have made him a sought-after target in the Premier League, particularly as he has scored well despite Ipswich’s struggles.

Just a year after leaving Manchester City, Delap could be on his way back to a top club.

Signing players from City’s academy seems like a policy worth considering.

While Manchester City is not having their best season, their academy continues to produce talent.

However, if Delap turns into a star at Liverpool, it will be frustrating for those at the Etihad. City have already strengthened their rivals with players like Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel Jesus, so adding Delap to that list would be another blow.
