‘Liverpool informed us’ - that Jurgen Klopp might use the same transfer tactic following the trial to sign Levi Colwill as a replacement.
Perr Schuurs of Torino, a center back who once went through a trial with the Reds in May 2017, is still being linked to Liverpool.

Levi Colwill is rumored to be one of Liverpool’s top targets this summer as they look to add a new center-back to their roster.

The Chelsea center-back is reportedly available, according to reports in London, and the Reds are known admirers of the England Under-21 international. The 20-year-old is reportedly not for sale by the capital club, and Colwill is expected to speak with new manager Mauricio Pochettino about his future later this month.

Colwill isn’t the only center back who has been linked with a move to Anfield, though; the Chelsea defender’s future is also up in the air, and it’s not clear if he will be persuaded to sign a new contract and remain at Stamford Bridge. Although club sources have denied rumors linking the Reds to interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio and Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard, as well as VfL Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, links to Torino’s Perr Schuurs have persisted.

Even Liverpool reportedly had offers rejected this summer for the Dutchman, with their most recent offer reportedly valued at £25.7 million, according to reports in Italy. While Crystal Palace is said to have tested Torino’s resolve with a £30 million offer, it is claimed that the Serie A club is holding out for £34 point three million.

The 23-year-old has been on the Reds’ recruitment team’s radar for a number of years as they continue to weigh their options for a new center-back.

In May 2017, when he was just 17 years old, Schuurs had a trial with Liverpool with the intention of making a summer move. He had previously started his senior career with Dutch Eerste Divisie team Fortuna Sittard. He worked out with the Reds’ Under-18 team, which was coached by Steven Gerrard at the time. According to reports in Holland, he also worked out with the Under-21 team and participated in some practice matches held in secret.

After his son’s trial, Lambert, the defender’s father, told 1Limburg that Liverpool had informed them of their satisfaction with Perr’s performance there. The club is composing a report that it will present to Fortuna Sittard. So, for now, we’ll wait.

“Steven Gerrard, who is currently a youth coach, and I have spoken. To Perr, he is unique. Obviously, that was very good. He nevertheless maintains his composure.

“Whatever Liverpool decides to do is still unknown. The decision then rests with Perr. He shouldn’t skip steps because we are aware that he is still not a player who is ready for use. “.

Although Liverpool was impressed with the defender, they decided against making a permanent signing for him. Instead, Schuurs agreed to join Ajax in January 2018 even though he finished the season with Fortuna Sittard.

He mentioned his Anfield trial after finishing the move: “There were several clubs interested and I also spoke with other clubs.
“However, I felt very good about Ajax right away.
I believe that is significant.
“.

Links to the Reds have sporadically continued since he joined the Dutch powerhouses. Additionally, Schuurs was questioned about rumors linking him to a move to Anfield after his impressive performances against Jurgen Klopp’s team in the Champions League group stages in 2020/21. Liverpool was then drawn against Ajax.

He responded, “I am not preoccupied with any interest from Liverpool in me. “I want to stay here for a few seasons and first win trophies with Ajax. ”.

Schuurs’ representative, George Gardu, a three-time Eredivisie champion in Amsterdam, would also confirm Liverpool’s interest in his client. He claimed that Tottenham, Liverpool, and PSG among other elite clubs moved to sign the player after the Dutchman’s £8 million transfer to Torino in August 2022.

“Three Italian teams also wanted Schuurs, in addition to Liverpool, Tottenham, and PSG. Schuurs can undoubtedly become a pillar of the Dutch national team as a result of Torino. ”.

Although Schuurs has yet to receive a cap for the Netherlands, he made an impression in his first season with Torino, making 33 appearances and assisting his team to a 10th-place finish in Serie A. It’s still unclear, though, if his time in Italy will be limited to a single season.

If the Dutchman is available for transfer, Liverpool won’t be the first team to rekindle interest in a player from the past. While Klopp was left regretting his decision to not sign Sadio Mane for Borussia Dortmund, he made amends in the summer of 2016. The Reds initially missed out on players like Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri before bringing them to Anfield years later.

Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk were two players that Liverpool had long been interested in, and both were closely watched before making their respective moves to Anfield.

It would be simple to brush aside reports from abroad that claim Schuurs is linked to the Reds as just the most recent round of speculative rumors that have followed player and club ever since his trial six years ago. However, it also makes sense why he might be on Liverpool’s radar since they have undoubtedly followed his progress over the years.

Six years after going on trial with the Reds in 2017, it’s safe to say that Schuurs is unquestionably a “ready-to-use” player. Only time will tell if that’s sufficient for him to return to Liverpool as they pursue their next center-back acquisition.
