This season, Jarell Quansah has emerged as a revelation at the centre of Jurgen Klopp’s defence, and the Reds academy graduate now appears certain to stay longer on Merseyside.
Jarell Quansah, a defender for Liverpool, is expected to sign a lucrative new long-term contract at the end of the current campaign.
After winning over Jurgen Klopp, the 21-year-old centre back had an incredible debut season at Anfield, and he now appears destined for a major part under new manager Arne Slot.
Quansah only signed a new contract at this time last year, but Liverpool is willing to give him a hefty pay increase in light of his strong play at the back this season and his partnership with captain and coach Virgil van Dijk.
In the upcoming weeks, Liverpool and the England U21 international’s agency, CAA Base, are anticipated to begin negotiations over new terms. The club still intends to strengthen Slot’s defence by signing a new left-footed center-back, thus the decision will not affect their summer transfer plans.
Willian Pacho, a 22-year-old Colombian player for Eintracht Frankfurt, is one of the main targets; talks have already taken place with his agency, Kancha Agency, although Frankfurt may require a sum of money approaching £50 million before agreeing to a deal.
Pacho, who has played 90 minutes in all but one of Frankfurt’s Bundesliga games this season, is reportedly being watched by Arsenal and a number of other elite European teams.
Levi Colwill of Chelsea is another player for whom there has been long-standing affection, but the Blues are unlikely to consider selling, especially to a direct competitor.
After an impressive loan stint with Brighton, Liverpool gave the 21-year-old some attention last summer, but he ultimately decided to devote his future to Chelsea by staying at Stamford Bridge.
Joel Matip, a mainstay under Klopp, has an expiring contract at the end of the current campaign. While he continues his recuperation from ACL surgery in December, no decision has been taken regarding his future.
Sepp van den Berg, a youthful Dutch centre defender who signed well to play on loan with Mainz in Germany, could get an opportunity to make an impression during preseason.
At the end of the season, Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah will both have one year remaining on their present contracts; therefore, Liverpool is likely to give their contract situations first priority.
Van Dijk is said to be thrilled about the possibility of working with fellow countryman Slot, whom he has previously openly lauded during a recent interview with Viaplay following the 2-0 loss at Everton. The Reds intend to retain onto both of their key players.
