Liverpool is concerned about Federico Chiesa's transfer twist amid contact with the player

Federico Chiesa, 26, is apparently hoping to sign with Liverpool from Juventus, but he would prefer a transfer elsewhere, with Barcelona at the top of his list.

Notably, Liverpool has not added any new players throughout this transfer window. Furthermore, it is rumoured that the most recent player with whom it has been associated prefers a different location altogether. Federico Chiesa is the individual in issue.

On Monday, rumours circulated that the Reds had reached out to his team, Juventus, regarding a potential acquisition of the 26-year-old. Given that he is in the last year of his contract and is not a part of Liverpool’s plans, manager Thiago Motta may be taking a “opportunistic” approach.

However, just because something meets the requirements of the Reds’ transfer strategy—which sporting director Richard Hughes alluded to at Arne Slot’s initial press conference—doesn’t guarantee that a deal will be finalised. It was evident with Martin Zubimendi that Liverpool could not always persuade players to sign on, and rumours have it that Chiesa would much rather play for Barcelona.

Diario SPORT, a Spanish publication, asserts that Chiesa is “determined to boost his career at Barca” in support of this assertion. According to reports, he plans to wait until this week to find out if Barcelona can register him.

Given the Catalan club’s problems with La Liga’s financial fair play regulations, this is by no means a given. Barcelona must make sure that there is enough money on its payroll to pay Chiesa’s salary and spread out the necessary transfer fee.

Juventus is apparently just seeking $17 million (£13 million/€15 million) in return for the Italy international, so his compensation package might be the greater obstacle. Chiesa reportedly makes $10 million (£8 million/€9 million) a year, according to FBRef, so it makes sense that he would desire a multi-season contract.

Barcelona’s financial situation seems to be precarious at all times. Another player who was apparently of interest to Liverpool, Dani Olmo, was recently signed by it, although at first it was unable to register him.

Although he should be able to make his debut this week, the circumstances don’t give him much confidence. It’s rumoured that Barcelona is trying to sign a new contract with Nike, which would undoubtedly improve the team’s finances greatly.

It would seem to be in control of Chiesa if it can settle this issue. Reports of Liverpool’s interest in the player go back to 2019. It can turn out to be a transfer that is doomed to fail again after five years.

According to Liverpool.com: It’s difficult to know what to believe in this place. In the last week of the transfer window, the usual rumour and counter-rumor game always picks up steam as players and teams try to get the best deal possible for themselves. People, buckle up.
