Liverpool Plot Bold Triple Swoop to Land £84m Goal Machine – Talks Underway

A summer of change is sweeping through Liverpool, and Arne Slot isn’t wasting a second. After securing a dominant Premier League title in his first season at the helm, the Dutchman is aggressively reshaping the squad — five new players already in, with Milos Kerkez all but confirmed.
But despite the overhaul, one glaring gap remains: a natural No.9. And now, Victor Osimhen — the explosive Nigerian striker long coveted by Jürgen Klopp — has become Liverpool’s prime target.
Talks Active – But Napoli Hold Firm
According to TeamTalk, negotiations between Liverpool and Napoli are very much alive. But as expected, the path to a deal isn’t smooth. Napoli, despite Osimhen having just 12 months left on his deal, are refusing to lower their asking price: €75 million (£64 million).
An initial proposal from Liverpool reportedly involved a bold “equal exchange” — Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa (yes, the Juventus winger not currently on Liverpool’s books but linked to a broader deal) were part of the offer. But Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli’s notoriously tough president, isn’t biting.
“There is a market twining between Naples and Liverpool,” journalist Valter De Maggio told Radio Goal, via Area Napoli. “The English club wants Osimhen, and Napoli does not make discounts on the clause. It asks for the €75 million as per the contract.”
In Napoli’s eyes, Nunez is overpriced. They reportedly value him far below the €60 million Liverpool believe he’s worth — and on top of Chiesa, they’re demanding an additional €20 million.
Negotiation Standoff – But Not a Dead End
Still, the door isn’t closed.
“Liverpool opened to Napoli, proposing an equal exchange,” De Maggio added. “But the president of the blue club asks for Chiesa, Nunez and €20 million for the Osimhen card.”
That’s not a small ask — and it’s forcing Liverpool to rethink how the deal might take shape. Sources suggest the transfer could be broken into three separate moves to help balance books and avoid breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
Interestingly, Nunez is said to have given the green light to a move to the Amalfi Coast, clearing a major hurdle should the clubs align on numbers.
The Missing No.9
Despite all the early business this summer, Liverpool still lack a true No.9. The club has distanced itself from links to Viktor Gyokeres, while Hugo Ekitike remains on the radar. But the pursuit of Osimhen signals intent — and ambition.
Slot is clearly after a striker who fits his high-energy system — and Osimhen, with his blistering pace, physicality, and relentless pressing, looks tailor-made for this Liverpool.
What This Means for Fans
From a supporter’s view, this is thrilling and maddening in equal measure. Osimhen is the type of striker who can terrorise defences across England. But the negotiations already have the familiar feel of a De Laurentiis standoff — and fans know how these drawn-out Napoli exits tend to play out.
There’s also intrigue around Chiesa’s involvement. While not a Liverpool player, his name keeps popping up in discussions. This could hint at multi-club negotiations, or existing clauses behind the scenes.
And for Nunez? It’s complicated. While his numbers have been erratic, his raw potential and passion made him a cult figure at Anfield. If he leaves, it might sting — even if it means bringing in someone more polished.
Final Word – Is It Worth It?
Arne Slot has won over the board and fanbase alike, but this deal might test both. Is Victor Osimhen worth giving up Nunez, a world-class winger, and a chunk of cash? Time — and tough negotiations — will tell.
If the numbers work and the fit is right, Liverpool could be adding one of the world’s most dangerous No.9s. But if Napoli continue to play hardball, the Reds will need to decide quickly — push forward, or walk away?
