Liverpool provides a troubling Cody Gakpo injury update in addition to Jamie Carragher criticizing VAR
Share
Recent Liverpool news: Jamie Carragher was not pleased with the VAR, and Jürgen Klopp provided an update on the injury Cody Gakpo sustained against Spurs.
With Jol Matip scoring a late own goal, Cody Gakpo getting hurt, Luis Diaz having a goal incorrectly disallowed, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota getting sent off, there wasn’t much else that could have gone wrong or against Liverpool in their late 2-1 loss to Spurs on Saturday.
Jamie Carragher left furious with VAR
Despite the VAR ruling that the on-field decision was correct, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher and many other Reds supporters were aware that Diaz was onside even before the PGMOL apology arrived.
Because Darren England failed to draw boundaries, he made a snap judgment that turned out to be incredibly costly.
With nothing to show for a very good effort over the course of 90 minutes despite every challenge you could imagine putting the Reds’ players through, an apology is not particularly helpful for Liverpool.
Carragher, who isn’t doing punditry for Sky Sports today, wrote on X/Twitter: “When it takes this long for an answer from @FA_PGMOL over a contentious decision you know there’s been a f**k up!”.
He later clarified on the same platform, “Shocking mistake, but this has nothing to do with the drawing of lines.
The Spurs center back was missed by the VAR, which clearly selected Diaz ahead of the full back.
“This season, when an obvious offside occurred, they tried to speed things up by restarting the game quickly without drawing the lines.
Being blind to the Spurs defender’s extended leg was a terrible error.
Cody Gakpo injury latest
Cody Gakpo, a Dutch striker who leveled the score against Spurs on Saturday before being substituted at halftime, has received an update from Jürgen Klopp. Gakpo was unable to continue after getting hurt a short while earlier.
“He scored a goal, but after that shot, he felt it even more.
During the press conference following the game, Klopp stated that it was from the prior foul.
To be honest, the injury to Cody from a free-kick before he scored was the game’s biggest issue.
He is currently limping down the hallway with a brace on.
To be honest, that’s my biggest issue right now.
It was terrible, terrible, terrible that we lost two players (due to red cards). So, yes, that is something we must obviously address.
When asked if the injury had been identified early and whether it might be a “bad one,” Klopp replied, “Perhaps, I don’t know.
Darwin Nunez would re-enter the Brighton team if Gakpo were to miss more than a week.
Due to a minor injury of his own, the Liverpool forward was unable to start against Tottenham.
For that game, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota will both be suspended.
However, because that is a different competition, they will both be able to play against Union SG on Thursday in the Europa League.

According to expert one Liverpool player is now a lot slower this season
This season, the Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has come under fire for playing slower than usual for both club and country.
Irish commentator Eamon Dunphy criticized the Anfield captain for his apparent lack of speed in crucial matches this season for both Liverpool and the Netherlands in a statement to The Stand.
Due to what appears to be preseason rust, Van Dijk hasn’t been at his best as a defender. And Dunphy has since targeted the defender for appearing to lose a step in his play.
Regarding Van Dijk’s alleged lack of speed this season, the Irish commentator said: “West Ham scored one yesterday, and there’s a big question mark around Van Dijk.
“You watched the game in the Aviva when we played Holland; you know even Adam Idah had the legs on him and he was very fortunate not to give away a penalty or a goal.
He lost a few pace yards, which for him were crucial.
They have firepower up front, but they are obviously weak at the back in comparison to Liverpool.
For Liverpool, Van Dijk must soon get back to his best.
There is no getting around the fact that Van Dijk has lost some of his speed, primarily because of the defender’s ACL injury, which the Dutch superstar sustained in 2020.
And even though the center back is now 32 years old and has lost some of his speed, he still acknowledges that his form needs to improve.
The defender has not been at the top of his game this year, and with Liverpool now appearing to be in a title race, Jurgen Klopp will need Van Dijk to be at his best if they are to contend with Manchester City
