Arne Slot, the head coach of Liverpool, has finally received approval to make his first summer acquisition. Despite several connections to possible acquisitions, the Reds have not added any new players to their roster during the three weeks that the current trade window has been open.
Newcastle has shown a great deal of interest in Anthony Gordon, and they have even made an unprecedented move to acquire Liverpool. Other strikers connected to Anfield include Johan Bakayoko and Nico Williams, but both appear destined to stay at PSV and Athletic Club, respectively.
Liverpool is interested in both Leny Yoro and Riccardo Calafiori for their defence, but it appears that they will face fierce competition from other teams to sign either player. Yoro’s preferred destination is still Real Madrid, but Arsenal is moving on with negotiations with Bologna after reaching an agreement on personal terms for Calafiori.
Teun Koopmeiners and Ederson of Atalanta have been mentioned as potential additions to Slot’s engine room, despite the midfield renovation last summer. Juventus is attempting to recruit Koopmeiners, which may have an effect on Liverpool, but Ederson has already stated that he was a more appealing option for Slot.
The Brazilian said, “I am very happy at Atalanta,” in an interview with AS. I recently took home a fantastic title, and I fit right in. It is not anything that worries me about my future. Since this is my first call-up, my current concern is performing well and making a good impression with the Brazilian team.
“Making sure that, as in Italy, everyone is familiar with me here. I’m trying to make the most of my time with the national squad and am extremely delighted and dedicated. I’ve given it a lot of thought, and while I enjoy Italy and feel like I’ve acclimated well, I’m intrigued about the Premier League, so I’m not sure.
I don’t know if I’ll stay in Italy since I think I still have a lot to prove, but I’m still growing. And if I go somewhere else. I’ll keep developing. Atalanta will make the decision if an offer is made. The most crucial element is that the club must approve any transfer-related issues before anyone else does.”
Liverpool now has the go-ahead to explore a trade with Ederson, who is obviously open to go to the Premier League. Brazil was eliminated from the Copa America tournament early on Sunday morning after losing to Uruguay on penalties in the quarterfinals.
Ederson was not used as a substitute. Liverpool is free to start talks with the player and Atalanta if they want to pursue a possible deal now that his country has exited the competition and he may be focusing on his future.
That has been suggested as his asking price, and Liverpool may need to spend up to €50 million (£42.5 million) to agree to a trade. Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old, but they seem more interested in Manuel Ugarte of Paris Saint-Germain and Uruguay, who helped Brazil’s elimination from the Copa America along with Ederson.
