Darwin Nunez of Liverpool has debuted a new hairstyle ahead of Uruguay’s Copa America opener.
The Reds striker is anticipated to play when his nation begins its campaign in Florida against Panama. Despite having a difficult season at Anfield in 2023–24, the 24-year-old nevertheless managed to make 54 appearances in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and dishing out 13 assists.
Nunez only started once in Jurgen Klopp’s final six Premier League games as manager; his season-ending goal came against Sheffield United in early April. Rumours of a possible departure resulted from this, particularly after Nunez deleted all of his Instagram posts that had anything to do with Liverpool.
Nonetheless, given the lack of concrete rumours of a move, it appears likely that Arne Slot will have Nunez in his lineup for the 2024–2025 campaign. Nunez gave the new head coach of Uruguay a very obvious message a few weeks after Slot’s hiring was revealed: he scored a hat-trick in Uruguay’s 4-0 victory over Mexico.
Nunez’s most recent hairdo stunned Liverpool supporters after this bold performance. The forward had a tightly-knit ball at the base of his head and was sporting cornrows.
The former Benfica star has worn similar hairstyles in the past. For Liverpool’s match against Fulham earlier in December, he shocked fans by switching from his typical ponytail to braided bunches.
Nunez has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders as he gets ready to captain his nation this summer. Nevertheless, he’s rising to the occasion, scoring eight goals and dishing out three assists in just seven World Cup-related games for his country.
Nunez has received support from former Red Luis Suarez as Uruguay prepares for the Copa America. Suarez stated, “He is one of the best center-forwards in the world today,” according to an ESPN transcript of his AUF TV interview.
“I enjoy watching him play and I love how he plays. Through another person, I had been in communication with Darwin ever while he was in Penarol. He scored three goals in one particular game that really stood out to me.
“He was supposed to have missed a lot of opportunities, but he also created a lot of them. Similar criticism was directed at me as well, but what matters is his perseverance—he has never given up trying to get better.”
