Liverpool transfer news: Dani Olmo’s deadline delayed amid Real Madrid ‘negotiations’
Share
Liverpool transfer news is coming thick and fast, and the Reds may be allowed additional time to trigger Dani Olmo’s release clause. Meanwhile, talks are apparently underway for a Real Madrid player.
With the international summer gone, all attention will turn back to club football. That hopefully indicates Liverpool will shortly enter the transfer market.
The Reds are yet to make any fresh acquisitions as Arne Slot prepares for his first season in command at Anfield. The new head coach has been looking at some of his stars in training, including Mohamed Salah, as well as those involved in Euro 2024 and the Copa America, who will be meeting with their teammates soon.
Fans will undoubtedly expect to greet some new faces as well. Talks about signing Anthony Gordon broke down early this summer, but sporting director Richard Hughes should have additional targets lined up.
Here’s the Liverpool.com take on the latest transfer rumours surrounding the Reds today, with updates on Dani Olmo and Andriy Lunin.
Dani Olmo – (RB Leipzig).
Liverpool could be allowed more time to exercise Dani Olmo’s release clause. The RB Leipzig star’s $66 million ($52 million/€60 million) release clause is set to expire on Monday, with Liverpool among the clubs reportedly interested.
According to Fabrizio Romano, there is also a provision in the agreement that means the release clause will be active for an additional five days due to Olmo’s participation with Spain in the Euro 2024 final versus England.
The claim comes after German outlet nd suggested Liverpool was prepared to activate the 26-year-old’s clause.
According to Liverpool.com, this could indicate that Leipzig is willing to allow Olmo leave, which would not be surprising. The Bundesliga side’s success has stemmed from its status as a feeder club, and Olmo appears to be the latest to win a huge move. Given what we saw of him during the Euros, Liverpool may want to explore this transfer.
Andriy Lunin – (Real Madrid).
Liverpool has held conversations over signing Real Madrid custodian Andriy Lunin, according to Spanish publication Sport (via Paisley Gates).
The Reds could be looking for a new custodian this summer, with Adrian already gone and Caoimhin Kelleher’s future uncertain, while Alisson Becker has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Arne Slot may already have a remedy in mind, with the Reds apparently in talks with Real Madrid about Lunin, who is expected to cost around $38 million (£30 million/€35 million).
According to Liverpool.com, Lunin’s arrival should not indicate that Alisson Becker will be leaving soon. Similarly, it would be surprising if the Ukrainian was prepared to play second fiddle to the Brazilian, given that he would most certainly want to be first choice someplace following a solid stint covering for Thibaut Courtois.
In any case, $38 million seems like a lot to spend on a backup custodian, unless Slot intends for Lunin to someday become Liverpool’s No. 1.
