Liverpool’s ambitions for the transfer window can finally begin after Arne Slot formally took over from Jurgen Klopp, but they face a battle to keep some of their finest talents.
Arne Slot has officially taken over at Liverpool, and the race is on to form a squad in his image.
Slot was officially announced on Tuesday evening and has been charged with building on Jurgen Klopp’s brilliant final season as manager. However, doubts persist about how his club would appear at the end of the transfer window.
Some of Anfield’s top players are getting increased interest from Europe and Saudi Arabia. Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz are two players whose futures have sparked speculation.
Van Dijk is being tracked by Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr as he enters the final year of his Reds contract, while Diaz has been identified as a key target by Barcelona. Here, Mirror Football compiles the most recent Liverpool transfer news.
Al-Nassr delays Van Dijk’s move.
Al-Nassr has slammed the brakes on its pursuit of Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman is out of contract at Anfield next summer and is regarded as an important player by incoming manager Arne Slot.
However, with no evidence of negotiations for a new contract, there have been suggestions that he could go. The side most closely associated with him is Al-Nassr, where former Liverpool player Sadio Mane now plays.
According to The Athletic, Nasse has yet to make contact with the Reds about a prospective deal. Van Dijk is set to become a free agent next summer and can sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas team in January.
Liverpool suffer David Hancko blow
The wife of Liverpool target David Hancko has hinted that the defender may reject a transfer to Anfield. Hancko has surfaced as a potential replacement for Joel Matip, although the Slovakian’s wife does not appear to be interested in a move to Merseyside.
Karolina Pliskova, a professional tennis player, told Czech Republic publication Sport: “It will be resolved this summer. Probably only after the (Euros) championship, although I am not an expert.
“I don’t know if it’s up for grabs, but I think he’d like to move on. Actually, we’d both be pleased. We’ll see what will happen in the end. I am not complaining, but there are certainly nicer spots. “For me, Spain or Italy.”
Diaz set for the Barca meeting.
Luis Diaz is scheduled to meet with Barcelona officials as a prospective transfer to Catalonia moves forward. Diaz has starred for Liverpool and has stated that he is content with his life there, but he is now a priority target for Barcelona.
After a poor season, the La Liga heavyweights are looking to make a statement in the transfer market with new manager Hansi Flick. According to Sport, they are working hard to sign Diaz and will meet with him in the United States this week.
Barça hopes to persuade Diaz to transfer to Spain this summer. Sporting director Deco is the key driving force behind Barcelona’s interest, and he is ready to make his first formal approach for Diaz, who is presently preparing to compete in the Copa America.
