Liverpool transfer news; 'very likely' $66 million move to Liverpool, and 'contact made' regarding the former Everton man

News about transfers involving Liverpool: The Reds are present as a target is now anticipated to move in January. Another player who was once on Everton could be pursued.

Today, Liverpool will try to increase its lead over the opposition in the standings to five points. Although the difference isn’t nearly as great as it appears—Manchester City still needs to play the game—and after the Brentford game was postponed because of Club World Cup obligations, it would still be a very positive place to end the New Year’s Day.

To be honest, Jürgen Klopp won’t likely be considering Liverpool’s competitors at all. However, if he were, he would surely anticipate a great comeback from Manchester City throughout the second part of the season. If the Reds want to maintain their top spot in the Premier League, they might have to step up in turn.

As January approaches, Klopp is once more able to add players to support that endeavour. Although he seems happy with the team that Liverpool has rebuilt, there are still some areas that need long-term care, and injuries have also caused some temporary stresses.

The position that appears to have the greatest chance to acquire a potential addition who can also contribute right away is defence. It turns out that Klopp is being linked to two players, albeit with quite different profiles, to bolster his defence. In a technical sense, one would bridge the Everton split. This is Liverpool.com’s assessment of the transfer rumours that have been circulating about the Reds lately.

Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting)

Liverpool has been connected to Gonçalo Inácio since the beginning of the previous summer. Sporting has since raised his release clause, bringing it to $66 million (£52 million/€60 million).

And yet, far from guaranteeing his long-term future, it is now’very likely’ that Inácio will depart in January. The print version of O Jogo, via Paisley Gates, claims that.

Rafael Silva is already a member of Sporting, possibly as a replacement. This month, Liverpool is ‘pushing’ for Inácio. Nevertheless, Arsenal and Real Madrid have also expressed “repeated interest.”

According to Liverpool.com: “Not Real Madrid again…” Liverpool and the Spanish powerhouse have recently engaged in far too many transfer chases. None have had happy endings.

Los Blancos may ‘push’ for a deal as well, although given David Alaba’s injury, it would make sense for all the same reasons as a transfer to Liverpool would. Both teams have the opportunity to get a long-term solution at the centre of the defence and alleviate the injury crisis.

Because he is a left-footer, Inácio enjoys an advantage. Although Klopp has been content to utilise Virgil van Dijk on the left for years, it would provide some balance if his future successor had a preference for his left foot. The 22-year-old may also be able to cover at left defence because Klopp’s current system requires that position to occasionally double as a third centre back.

Antonee Robinson (Fulham)

If none of the senior dedicated left-backs are healthy, Klopp may resort to Fulham’s Antonee Robinson. That’s what 90MIN says. It is said that Liverpool has already ‘contacted’ Fulham to discuss a potential move. Although he never made an appearance in the first team, the player himself would be willing to make the move. This is especially noteworthy given that he was a youthful player for more than ten years at Everton.

In the absence of Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, Klopp is now depending on Joe Gomez on the left. The Scot is anticipated to return before the end of the month, though.

According to Liverpool.com, Klopp would undoubtedly find it difficult without Robertson or Tsimikas, but it would be strange to find a specific transfer answer. Whoever joined would find themselves in a difficult situation when the other two left-backs came back.

To be fair, Liverpool will eventually want to consider a long-term solution because Robertson will turn 30 in March. However, Robinson is only 26 years old, so he doesn’t have the most compelling succession plan.

Having said that, the American has performed admirably for Fulham. While it is expected that Liverpool will not sign a left-back this month, it is fair to say that Everton regrets losing him. Liverpool may still benefit from that loss.
