Several prestigious European clubs have scouted Lucas Beraldo.
A crucial member of Sao Paulo’s team, the 19-year-old.
Recent Copa do Brasil victory for the team was made possible by him.
According to 90min, Sao Paulo’s rising young center-back Lucas Beraldo has caught Liverpool’s attention.
After joining Sao Paulo’s team in 2022, Beraldo has emerged as one of the country’s top young defenders.
He was a crucial part of Sao Paulo’s recent Copa do Brasil victory, starting in the middle of their defense in both legs of their match against Flamengo and guiding his team to a 2-1 aggregate victory.
A star performer for Sao Paulo, the Brazil Under-20 international’s passing range and ability to elude defenders to keep possession in their own defensive third are just two of his standout attributes.
His performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe.
90min understands that Wolves had a bid for Beraldo turned down by Sao Paulo during the summer transfer window; the club ultimately decided to sign Santiago Bueno from Girona for £8.5m on deadline day instead.
However, Liverpool is keeping a close eye on his progress.
As they search for potential long-term replacements for Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, both of whom are 32, sources have confirmed to 90min that Liverpool’s scouting team has watched Beraldo a number of times over recent months.
Jurgen Klopp’s preferred center-back pairing this season has been Matip and Van Dijk, although the club also has Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah (who has excelled when given playing time this season) on its books.
However, Beraldo would give Liverpool a left-footed option they don’t currently have, which is crucial.
Although sources have since confirmed to 90min that Sao Paulo hope to reward Beraldo’s progress with a new contract, Bayern Munich, Olympique Lyonnais, and Monaco have also recently sent scouts to Brazil to watch Beraldo.
Interest in his services is likely to grow as he plays more games.
New terms would lengthen a deal that currently expires in 2026, reflect Beraldo’s position in Sao Paulo’s squad, and give the Brazilian giants a strong negotiating position in the event that they decide to sell the player.

Jurgen Klopp wants a deal for Thiago, but some officials disagree
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants the club to extend Thiago’s contract before the end of the season until after it expires, reports 90Min.
Thiago signed a four-year deal when he arrived from Bayern Munich in 2020 for a $31m (£25m/€29m) deal, so he could be in the final months of his Anfield career.
Unlike the manager, senior figures are not convinced Thiago deserves a new contract and are unsure whether the Spaniard has done enough to justify his salary, which is one of the highest at the club.
The 32-year-old is yet to feature for the club this season as he recovers from hip surgery in May and has only played 51 of 120 Premier League games since his arrival due to persistent fitness problems.
Thiago told the club he did not want to leave this summer due to interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey and instead decided to fight for his place, but further negotiations would take place before January.
And depending on the outcome of those discussions, there is a “significant” possibility that the veteran could leave the club during the winter window.
Dominik Szoboszlai makes optimistic predictions for Man City
According to the Times, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has told his teammates that he hopes to win their matches against Manchester City this season.
Szoboszlai, who is playing his first season in the Premier League after a $77m (£60m/€70m) move from RB Leipzig, apparently asked the players which games on the calendar would be the most difficult. They picked the games against City and Manchester United, but Szoboszlai explained he thought they would win them all.
Liverpool, currently two points behind Pep Guardiola’s side at the top of the Premier League table, are set to travel to the Etihad at the end of November.
He lost that match 4-1 in April as part of a miserable 2022/23 season, but managed to beat eventual treble winners City 1-0 at Anfield.
However, Szoboszlai won’t get his first taste of the rivalry with Manchester United until mid-December, when the Red Devils look to avenge the historic 7-0 defeat in March
