Liverpool
Midfielder was “asked to wait” by Liverpool, but no bid materialized.

Liverpool don’t put all their eggs in one basket and that was the case with the midfield search.
You told a specific target to wait before taking a significant step. The Reds wasted no time in securing the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, the first of many prospects for this summer.
Further reinforcements are expected in midfield and defense but it can be seen that Liverpool have not strayed from their transfer strategy when selecting potential new arrivals.
According to Dutch source 1908.NL, the Reds were ‘close enough’ to sign Turkish midfielder Orkun Kokcu and have urged the 22-year-old not to sign with Benfica.
However, the Feyenoord captain was announced as a new signing for the Portuguese club on 10 June, with Liverpool having never made an offer before the Dutch club’s deadline.
It’s not the first time the Reds have been window shopping and putting a player in the basket before they ever do it – they make sure they have options.
However, you can only drag out a convincing argument for so long before another party loses interest or looks elsewhere, which is what happened to Kokcu, if reports are to be believed.
Liverpool have been linked with Kokcu all year and for good reason he is versatile in midfield and availability is one of his greatest assets, something the Reds need more of.
At the age of 22, he has made 175 first-team appearances, which is the threshold Liverpool usually exceed when it comes to judging a player’s ability and quality.
He has made the most forward-looking passes in the Eredivisie in 2022-23 and can usually be found on the left side of midfield. With a price tag in the region of €30m (£25.7m), it can be assumed that Liverpool have opted to go after Mac Allister.
Both Brighton and Manchester United generated interest, but it was ultimately Benfica who signed the exciting young midfielder. Meanwhile, the Reds continue to be associated with players such as Gabri Veiga, Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Ryan Gravenberch.

Liverpool need a left centre-back like Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, Redmen TV presenter Paul Machin has told GIVEMESPORT.
The Reds are linked with RB Leipzig’s Joško Gvardiol but Machin believes the young Englishman could be a good alternative to the Croatian.
Liverpool Transfer News – Levi Colwill
In April, the Evening Standard claimed Levi Colwill was a top target for Liverpool and Manchester City.
Brighton & Hove Albion, where the 20-year-old spent last season on loan, are also interested. According to MailOnline, the Seagulls are considering making a £40m offer after Chelsea rejected a £30m offer.
In addition to Colwill, Liverpool have also been eyeing Gvardiol. According to Football Insider, the Merseyside club are “huge fans” of the Leipzig star, but a deal is unlikely due to his price tag.
It means Jürgen Klopp will have to explore other options, like Colwill.
What did Paul Machin say about Levi Colwill and Liverpool? Machin is adamant that Liverpool need a central defender of Colwill’s profile and believes his status at home would make him a good fit for the club.
Asked about possible alternatives to Gvardiol, the Redmen TV presenter told GIVEMESPORT: “I think someone like Levi Colwill at Chelsea, who has had a very good season at Brighton, can fill that left-sided centre-back role. He can.
” also a little left rear.
“Obviously there’s a big overhaul going on at Chelsea this summer. At the moment there doesn’t seem to be much added value from there.
They seem to be on the heels of some footballers which is why I don’t think Mason Mount has moved to Manchester United yet. But I think he suits the local culture better and fills the need for a left centre-back which I think Liverpool have.”
Will Liverpool sign Levi Colwill this summer?
Colwill could certainly be a great addition to this Liverpool side.
According to FBref, he ranks in the 92nd percentile for progressive passing and 88th for progressive carries among his positional peers.
He proves that the England Under-21 international is quite a modern defender.
However, are Chelsea ready to sell him? The answer is probably not as The Guardian reports, they want to add him to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad next season.
Unless Colwill pushes for a move, a move to Liverpool or elsewhere seems unlikely.
