Transfer rumours involving Liverpool: Pep Guardiola may have given the go-ahead for the Reds to sign one of his players, and Liverpool may have their January bid accepted.
Liverpool is in a strong position in the Premier League going into the international break after beating Brentford. The Reds are now Manchester City’s closest rivals in the early stages of the title fight after a 3-0 victory at Anfield.
After Liverpool’s two-point loss to Chelsea, Pep Guardiola’s team is currently only one point behind the reigning champion. And after the international break is finished, Jürgen Klopp’s team has a trip to the Etihad and an opportunity to pass City.
Before kickoff against Brentford, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté will be joining Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch on the sidelines. The Liverpool manager hopes to have a couple more players back from injury by then. But, Klopp will probably be keeping an eye on the upcoming January transfer window, regardless of who is available.
Additionally, Guardiola may have recently given Liverpool the go-ahead for one possible target, and the Reds and Tottenham may be competing for a defender. This is Liverpool.com’s assessment of the transfer rumours that have been circulating about the Reds lately.
Phillips Kevin (Manchester City)
It appears that Kalvin Phillips can now be signed by Liverpool thanks to Pep Guardiola’s approval. The midfielder’s opportunities at the Etihad are still limited, thus he has been linked to Anfield; however, according to a report from Calciomercato (via Football 365), Phillips would like to go to Newcastle.
Guardiola has nevertheless made it clear that even if Liverpool made a move, he wouldn’t obstruct the England international. “In my opinion, I’ve expressed this to the club numerous times. Guardiola stated, “I offer the club my opinion, and they decide if the transfer suits both sides and the player” (via the Mirror).
What’s the issue if they want to go to Chelsea, [Manchester] United, Liverpool, or somewhere else? Both the club and them are content with the transfer. them are glad to be there. It’s okay since the other club is satisfied with the amount of money they spend.
According to Liverpool.com, it’s encouraging that Guardiola wouldn’t mind working with Liverpool, but it may also speak more to his ability to quickly replace departing players given his finances. Even so, is Phillips a guy Liverpool ought to be pursuing?
The former Leeds player is past the typical age that Liverpool would typically seek, and he has had injury issues in the past. We may pass on this one, Pep, but thanks for the approval.
Lloyd Kelly, (Bournemouth)
Lloyd Kelly is a defender, and Bournemouth would consider an offer of about $37 million (£30 million/€34 million), Football Insider reports. With the January transfer window drawing near, the 25-year-old is once more being linked to a move to Anfield.
Kelly’s contract at Vitality Stadium is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign, raising the possibility that he may be moving in the upcoming year. The Cherries would find it difficult to reject an offer of $37 million, since Liverpool is reportedly prepared to challenge Tottenham for his signature.
According to Liverpool.com; Kelly is a left-footed center-back who can also cover at left-back, so he definitely matches the profile of what Liverpool is probably searching for in January. However, $37 million does seem excessive for a guy whose contract expires in a few months.
The paper makes the possibility that Bournemouth might be persuaded to accept a slightly reduced offer. In such case, Liverpool will determine if Kelly is worth the money.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp ‘broke’ Premier League rule to fulfil promise to Harvey Elliott
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly ‘broken’ Premier League rules to keep his promise to midfielder Harvey Elliott.
Klopp’s managerial skills are one of his best qualities as a manager, with many players saying they enjoy playing under him.
In an interview with Sky Sports in 2020, Manchester United legend Gary Neville revealed that, apart from Sir Alex Ferguson, the manager he would most like to play under in his career is the German.
Klopp has turned Liverpool into perennial title contenders since arriving at Anfield in 2015.
Last season was a remarkable one.
He led Manchester United to the Premier League title in 2020, a year after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 to win his sixth Champions League title.
Klopp used a consistent line-up in 2019/20, with six players playing more than 35 of the 38 games.
Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold were always there.
This meant that although some of the younger members of the squad, including Curtis Jones and Neko Williams, made the five appearances required to win a Premier League medal, other players had limited opportunities.
However, Harvey Elliott played just two games this season and was ineligible for a medal.
But the midfielder said Klopp had “broken” Premier League rules and confirmed he will receive a medal to mark his incredible season.
In an interview with the Liverpool Echo, Elliott explained: “I’m not sure if it’s [Klopp’s] medal.
It could have been Klopp’s medal but I ended up winning it.
“After the parade and presentation, I went into the locker room and they gave it to me.
“I can’t put into words how I felt.
I felt really good and I could say to my mom and dad: [I have a medal! I have a medal!” I sent a photo.
“They were down too so we went and looked around and had a little party.
“I felt really good.”
