Chelsea transfer news: Eden Hazard position confirmed as Todd Boehly completes £17 million wonderkid deal
All the latest Chelsea transfer news and gossip, including updates on Deivid Washington, Eden Hazard and Brennan Johnson

    Washington Signs

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Deivid Washington from Santos as the Blues remain active through the summer transfer window. The club made a number of transfers as well as completing a first team squad overhaul.

Washington follows in the footsteps of Angelo Gabriel, who also joined from Santos and has since been on loan to Strasbourg after joining Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for pre-season in the United States. The 18-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge on a deal that could be in the region of £17m.

The striker parted ways with Santos on Tuesday after scoring six goals in 22 appearances for the Brazilian side in 2023 and signed a seven-year deal with the option for a further year. Upon signing, Washington said, “I’m looking forward to making my debut here at such a big club with tons of goals and assists.”

After much speculation over Eden Hazard’s future, the whereabouts of the 32-year-old have finally been revealed, nearly twelve weeks after his departure from Real Madrid. On June 3, the Spanish giants confirmed he would be leaving the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the month, despite him still having a year left on his contract.

Since he became a free agent, there has been much speculation about Hazard’s future. The possibility of retiring has been discussed in various media. But it seems the Belgian has no shortage of options as he gears up for the new season.

According to Hazard’s world-renowned hairdresser Ahmed AlsanawI, owner of Chessington’s A Star Barbers, the winger has already turned down offers from six teams this summer as he weighs his options. In response to a comment claiming ‘no one wants to sign Hazard’ under a video of him getting a haircut, Alsanaw hilariously replied, “Funny he rejected 6 teams *laughs- Emoji* t. ” ***.\”

    Johnson’s Update

Chelsea transfer news: Eden Hazard position confirmed as Todd Boehly completes £17 million wonderkid deal
Steve Cooper has insisted that Brennan Johnson should not be distracted by speculation over his future at Nottingham Forest, given his links with Chelsea. When asked if there had been any offers for Johnson, Cooper said: “I’m not sure, I’m not looking into it. I just deal with Brennan on a daily basis.

“Right now we talk a lot, but it’s just normal conversations about performance and development and everything to do with him doing his best – or wanting to do his best. .”

“That’s our plan and that’s what we’re doing.” And if at some point we are told that things are changing – not just with him, but with any player – we will deal with it.

“But I can imagine that there is speculation about Brennan. I myself don’t pay attention to it. He is a very talented young player and the interesting thing is that he has much more in store.”

Chelsea star absent from training despite Mauricio Pochettino’s double injury boost

Chelsea star absent from training despite Mauricio Pochettino's double injury boost
Chelsea news: Mykhailo Mudryk was absent from Chelsea training on Wednesday but there has been a double wave of injuries since.

Chelsea star Mykhailo Mudryk was absent from training on Wednesday as the Blues step up their preparations for Friday night’s game against Luton Town.

The Ukraine international was on the bench against West Ham at the weekend and showed promising signs of living up to the hefty transfer fee attached to his move. There were times when the winger’s crosses went wide or were intercepted while his finishing attempts are still questionable.

After struggling last season following the January move, it was hoped the 22-year-old could return to his best form. Problems with a lack of fitness have created problems that could ideally be solved by a full pre-season, although he has yet to feature under Mauricio Pochettino.

His absence from training might come as a slight surprise as Sky Sports report he is among the players missing on Wednesday morning. It remains to be seen whether this is due to injury concerns, a precautionary measure or some other reason ahead of the third game of the season.

Pochettino is reinforced by two returnees who seem expected: striker Armando Broja and defender Benoit Badiashile. The former is coming back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered late last year which horribly ruled him out for the rest of the season.

The Cobham academy graduate is back in training, although he is unlikely to be back in action anytime soon after suffering such a serious injury. The head coach also hinted that Broja was thinking long-term, suggesting a new striker shouldn’t slow his development.

As for Badiashile, the defender impressed after his transfer in January but late-season injuries carried over into pre-season and he was sidelined for months. A return to training is also on the cards as the club have confirmed the centre-back will train with the ball on the pitch when he returns to form.

All in all, Pochettino is confident that the end of the light injury crisis will come to an end in the coming weeks, although doubts remain over Mudryk’s recent absence.

  • Jurgen Klopp has hit the jackpot with Liverpool summer transfer ahead of Newcastle

Jurgen Klopp has hit the jackpot with Liverpool summer transfer ahead of Newcastle

Liverpool's £25.5m bid for Andre 'rejected' as Reds finally drop transfer for good
Our weekly Liverpool jury columnists consider the Bournemouth victory as well as Sunday’s matchup with Newcastle United.

When Liverpool plays Newcastle United this weekend, they will be looking to build on last Saturday’s three-point performance.

The Reds should be extremely encouraged by the fact that they were the only Premier League team to sweep Eddie Howe’s team from the previous season as they get ready to square off against the Magpies once more.

After the Argentine’s red card was overturned, Jurgen Klopp will have access to Alexis Mac Allister on Sunday afternoon, which is a significant improvement for the midfield. Additionally, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are nearing their respective comebacks from injuries, while Curtis Jones might miss his second straight game due to an ankle problem.

Four supporters have provided their opinions as part of a weekly ECHO fan column in anticipation of the Reds’ upcoming matchup with the Magpies.

Rhys Buchanan (city centre, @Rhys_Buchanan) – No changes required ahead of Sunday

I was more than happy to return to Anfield last weekend, reconnecting with old friends and familiar faces I hadn’t seen in a long time and remembering routines while enjoying a few cold beers in the beautiful sunshine. Fortunately, the Reds had no intention of ruining the celebration, so we could take pleasure in watching various other encouraging results accumulate over the course of the round of games (and that’s before we get to how I’ve missed the pies).

Aside from the initial shakiness at the back, I thought we displayed strong character to rally and could take a lot of positives with us. I was quietly impressed by Wataru Endo’s grit and determination, despite the challenging circumstances surrounding his introduction following Mac Allister’s severe dismissal. Diaz appears to be in great shape elsewhere, and Szoboszlai has all the makings of being a key player this season.

I would be looking to start the same team for Sunday’s challenging away game at Newcastle, and as a realist at this point, I would settle for a point to build on, or even better, a repeat of the Reds’ decisive away victory at St. James’ Park last season! Up the Reds.

Szoboszlai already has the look of the real deal, says Andrew Cullen (Widnes, @brothersred5).

Liverpool produced a composed performance against Bournemouth after a tentative start. Dominik Szoboszlai gave a dynamic, fluid performance that was overflowing with speed and power. He already has the appearance of being the player who can give the Liverpool midfield new life. We have benefited from having box-to-box midfielders who are strong and athletic, like Henderson and Fabinho, as well as players with flair, like Thiago and Keta.

Cody Gakpo’s midfield experiment hasn’t quite succeeded. Gakpo was essential to the team’s success last season in a more advanced role. He has, however, quickly lost playing time this season when he has been positioned in the middle of the field. When we want to unleash more attacking players onto the field at Anfield, Gakpo may be an option in the midfield, but as an established midfielder, the early indications are that such a position will stifle his brilliance rather than unfold it.

I anticipate Gakpo to be replaced by Endo when Manchester United visit this weekend. Our defensive posture should be improved by this switch. Even at this early stage, we must keep up with the advancing front-runners in the title race, which is already under way.

Liverpool is taking lessons from last year, writes David Shams (@ShamsWriter, Beijing).

Last season, the Liverpool supporters were doubting everything at this point. Sure, the 9-0 and 7-0 victories over Bournemouth and Manchester United offered a glimmer of hope, but the assurance we found in those performances could never be replicated. Was this the beginning of the end after such a high?

Of course, there are still unanswered questions. Once one issue is resolved today, another one will arise tomorrow.

Although it’s still very early in the season, it seems like some of the weaknesses from the previous campaign are almost completely overcome. In the past year, such grit and determination have not been seen. The team would have crumbled and flailed as they attempted to get back into the game against Bournemouth had they conceded an early goal. Unlike before, this time.

They managed to grind out a difficult point on the road at Stamford Bridge, which was something that the team from the previous season struggled with in other away games.
    For Sunday, this is encouraging.
Newcastle has grown stronger as a result of its renovation, riding high on petrodollars. A loss won’t end the season, but if you win all three, we’ll leave a lasting impression. It’s safe to say that last season is over.

The overturning of Mac Allister’s red card on Sunday could be crucial, according to James Noble (Worcestershire, @james_noble98).

We may not have had the easiest victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, but that might have worked in our favor. Finally, despite being down a goal and then a player, Liverpool responded enthusiastically and positively. As a season goes on, it can’t help but be beneficial to be able to use adversity as a springboard when necessary.

Dominik Szoboszlai served as the process’s technically astute driving force. What encouraging preliminary evidence the Hungarian is providing. However, the Reds continue to overly encourage their opponents. Sunday probably has a lot less margin for error.

Going to St. James’ Park in order to take on Newcastle does seem to jump off the page. The Magpies, radiant under Eddie Howe, should present a significant challenge. It’s one to anticipate and be prepared for.

It could be crucial to know when to shift up a gear and when to put the car into cruise. The rhythmic sense of Alexis Mac Allister can be useful in that regard. On Tuesday, it was extremely gratifying to learn that his red card had been overturned. Jürgen Klopp’s team can thrive in this environment if they have strong foundations and a persistent willingness to roll with the punches.

Mauricio Pochettino says he already has already picked shirt number for another signing this window
Mauricio Pochettino says he has already chosen a shirt number for a new signing arriving in this window!

As we keep hearing this week, the club is looking to bring in at least one striker in this period, and Pochettino has spoken about the shirt number the striker will receive.

Chelsea’s number 9 shirt is cursed, and Pochettino was asked about it yesterday during the pre-match press conference ahead of tonight’s home match against Luton Town in the Premier League.

Many strikers have taken the number and failed at Chelsea of late, and the superstitious among us believe it has become a cursed number for the club.

In words quoted by The Telegraph, when asked about the club’s cursed number 9 shirt, Pochettino said: “It’s true, [the curse] yes? Oh my God, we have to do some things to change the energy. I’ll have the equipment man bring all nine shirts and we’ll do something to break it.

He then went on to say that if the club manages to get a new striker in this window, that striker will be given the number 9 shirt!

Pochettino continues: “If we insert an extra striker now, I’m sure he will use the nine and I’m trying to change the feeling and the idea that this number is cursed”.

    Aubameyang dig

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has moved to Chelsea as he congratulates Hakim Ziyech on his move to Galatasaray. The 30-year-old winger had an uncertain future in West London for a while before finally securing a move to the Turkish top flight.

Like the Morocco international, Aubameyang struggled to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge and spent much of the season on the bench before finding a new club in the summer. In his Instagram story, the Marseille ace wrote: \”All the best my brother. Free Hakim *crying laughter emoji* *clapping fist emoji* *heart hands emoji*. \”

Ziyech then reposted Aubameyang’s post to his Instagram story. Unsurprisingly, Chelsea fans have not been happy with the Gabonese international’s coup at the club and have been expressing their feelings online.

    Lukaku ‘agreement’

    Aubameyang dig
Asked if he could reinstate Romelu Lukaku in the Chelsea squad, Mauricio Pochettino replied: “It’s not just one team, it takes two teams to find the best solution. You can’t just put it on the club, it affects both sides.

“The situation is where it is because of both sides. Both sides have reached an agreement. Before signing, we were informed about each player’s situation,” added Pochettino. “After signing, we had the squad we had. It’s so clear that nothing has changed and if there’s anything to report, we’ll report it.

“We don’t have to do anything, I have to be focused on my team and try to do well. We can’t waste energy on a situation that was obvious before we arrived at Chelsea.”

    West Ham defeat

    Aubameyang dig
Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the 2023-24 Premier League season on Sunday at the hands of London rivals West Ham United. The Blues failed to capitalize on their dominance in the first half with Enzo Fernandez missing from the penalty spot. Michail Antonio and Lucas Paqueta scored after the break to give the Hammers all three points.

Carney Chukwuemeka, on the other hand, went off injured after an excellent performance with a goal, another blow for Pochettino.

Return of Khéphren Thuram,’super offer’ denied – Reasonable final week of transfers for Liverpool

Return of Khéphren Thuram,'super offer' denied - Reasonable final week of transfers for Liverpool
Liverpool like the look of Nice midfielder Khéphren Thuram but there are other areas of the pitch that need to be addressed before the deadline.

Time is running out for Liverpool in the transfer window. With just seven days to go, Liverpool are approaching the same situation as last year, on deadline day when the Reds rushed to sign Arthur Melo on loan.

This time around, however, Liverpool cannot afford to make the same mistake, and neither can the Reds. There is a sensible path to take in the final week. Khéphren Thuram is a player who has been on the club’s radar all summer and he is still available and on the market as Nice seem ready to let him go.

Nice sporting director Florent Ghisolfi spoke to the press on Friday during the presentation of the new signings of Jérémie Boga and Morgan Sanson and was asked about the club’s departures, in particular Thuram and Jean-Clair Todibo during the past month.

“Thuram and Todibo are in high demand. We hope to keep all our key players, but we have never matched any player. If all parties are satisfied, an exit could take place,” Ghisolfi replied, according to France Bleu Azur. That situation doesn’t appear to have changed and with Thuram being the sort of player capable of playing as a number eight and number six, it would be wise for Liverpool to sign him this summer to help rebuild the club’s midfield under Jurgen Klopp.

However, this is not the only way for Liverpool to ensure a reasonable end to the transfer window.

Return of Khéphren Thuram,'super offer' denied - Reasonable final week of transfers for Liverpool
As speculation around Mohamed Salah mounts, one of the key transfer decisions the club will have to make this summer is the decision to keep him at Anfield.

According to Sportitalia and Sport Witness, state-owned All-Ittihad are ready to make a “super offer” to Liverpool and Salah to lure him to Saudi Arabia.

This is a report that can no longer be ignored. Things are heating up around Salah, and given the way Saudi Arabia ramped up hiring over the summer, nothing is off the table. After all, All-Ittiera already managed to lure a Liverpool player to Fabinho this summer.

Now players like Neymar are also moving and continuing their careers in the country.

If All-Ittihad returns for Salah, it will be an offer Liverpool are unlikely to be able to refuse. But the club must do just that. There is currently no one on the market who could replace the Egyptian winger. Salah is the team’s most indispensable player, not only in terms of his quality on the pitch as one of the best players to ever wear the red shirt, but also off the pitch with his role model and mentality of leadership within the FA Zimmer.

There will be a time in the future when Salah gets into new targets and maybe Saudi Arabia will be a topic of conversation. But Liverpool can’t even consider considering that possibility this summer.

Salah simply needs to stay at Anfield, Liverpool’s transfer window success depends on it. Keep him and sign Thuram, and the Reds will have a reasonable, if not successful, last week in the transfer market.

News – Liverpool hit as Man Utd strike £29m deal to sign Reds target – report

During the January transfer window, The Telegraph revealed that the Merseysiders have already agreed to land the Portugal international in a £44m deal this summer. Moreover, Anfield Watch exclusively reported a week ago that the Reds are finally looking to sign the 24-year-old star.

However, according to the latest media reports, Nunes has agreed to join Man City who are keen to strike a deal with Wolves in a bid to get them over the finish line.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League champions have already agreed personal terms with the Seleccao star and submitted an initial offer of over €50m.

However, according to the latest update from Portugal, there is unlikely to be enough supply.

According to today’s version of O Jogo, the West Midlands club agreed a €45m entry fee and €5m top-up to sign Nunes from the Lions last summer. Now they want minimum compensation of €70m (£60m) to part with their prized possession.

Nunes scored just one goal and one assist in the Premier League last season and Manchester City want him to replace the injured Kevin de Bruyne, who directly contributed to 41 goals in the treble season.

Liverpool have seen several midfield goals move elsewhere this summer and it now appears the 11-man Portuguese will eventually move to the Etihad.

  • Bradley Barcola, Noni Madueke, and how Chelsea’s transfer strategy might change in a 90-minute

Bradley Barcola, Noni Madueke, and how Chelsea’s transfer strategy might change in a 90-minute

    Bradley Barcola, Noni Madueke
Chelsea are in the hunt for a new right winger before the window closes and Football.London are exploring how tonight’s game against Luton Town could affect their plans.

Since Chelsea completed the signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia for £173m last week, the club’s direction in the transfer market has been pretty clear.

Bringing in a new goalie and adding another attacking talent to their ranks. The first seems almost settled, fortunately for the Blues.

New England Revolution’s Djordje Petrovic is on his way to Stamford Bridge after Chelsea agreed a £14m (£12.5m plus £1.5m extras) deal with the side from the MLS.

Petrovic will soon undergo medical treatment with the Blues and by the time Chelsea host second-tier side AFC Wimbledon in west London in the second round of the Carabao Cup next week, the transfer should be complete.

It was therefore natural that the club’s attention turned to an attacking option: someone who is versatile and can play both on the right wing and in the middle as a number 10. A few options have been identified for a possible move during the last week of the summer transfer window.

Chelsea spoke to Rayan Cherki and his representatives last month, football.london learns, but nothing has progressed with the Frenchman since the initial dialogue. It could be a target to watch, but for now it looks like Chelsea have turned their attention to other targets.

    Bradley Barcola, Noni Madueke
One of them is Bradley Barcola from the same club, Lyon. The 20-year-old is currently seen as one of the most exciting talents in his role – right wing – in world football right now. But Paris Saint-Germain is also interested in Barcola and has started negotiations with Lyon for a transfer of the winger.

“We need at least one goalkeeper,” Mauricio Pochettino told reporters on Thursday. “We have very talented young goalkeepers, but they need time.

“They need more and then we were talking about a striker, the right profile. If we manage to add the right profile, yes, but not to bring players, so we can add another one. We don’t want to stop the evolution of some young people, [Armando] Broja, [Christopher] Nkunku.

“We work hard, but we don’t make decisions because we need someone. We may need some players in these two areas.”

Pochettino essentially suggested that the club will enter the transfer market between now and September 1st, but only if there is the ideal option. Chelsea will not be in a hurry to buy someone just because they don’t fit the club’s desired profile or ideology. Tonight’s (Friday) game against Luton Town could have a major impact on the club’s plans until the window closes. With Christopher Nkunku and Carney Chukwuemeka both out with knee injuries, the Blues’ offensive options will be tight for those playing behind Nicolas Jackson, we assume.

    Bradley Barcola, Noni Madueke
Noni Madueke is likely to make his first start under Pochettino after coming on as a second-half substitute at West Ham United at the weekend. The 21-year-old winger, who was signed by PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window for £30m, showed the first glimpses of his vast talent and technical ability in the second half of last season, but struggled to establish itself on the right.
place to secure – hand side.

When Madueke positions a defender in a one-on-one situation, he is virtually unstoppable. He’s one of those players where the defender knows what he’s going to do; he cuts off his favorite left foot, but precognition becomes useless due to his incredible speed and tricky dribbling.

Against West Ham, however, Chelsea almost played against two right wingers at times. Raheem Sterling was often on the right wing and stayed there even as Madueke entered the second period. This has at times forced the England under-21 international to move into the centre, where he has been unable to hurt the Hammers.

However, there were a few instances where Madueke picked up the ball on the right side and was able to show the wits of him in one-on-one situations. It was a terrible shame he couldn’t find the back of the net on a shot that hit the net, only for goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to deflect the goal and then turn it over.

If he wants to play against Luton, Chelsea will have to send the ball to him down the right flank as often as possible because if he isolates a full-back there is nothing anyone can do about it. His end product obviously needs improvement, but for raw talent, what he has to offer is pretty scary.

There is always talk of a new right-winger, but Madueke sometimes seems overlooked. Even though Chelsea need depth on the wing, largely due to injury, whoever comes in doesn’t have to be a drag on the development of one of England’s brightest young talents.

Mohamed Salah: Saudi club could pay £600m to make Liverpool the highest-paid player in the world
Saudi club Al-Ittihad may have to pay a whopping £600million to make Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah the best player in the world.

But Liverpool won’t be thinking about the departure of their most valuable player from Anfield, especially with just a week left in the transfer window to find a replacement.

They are preparing for Al-Ittihad to act in the final week of the English window after reports in Saudi Arabia and Egypt claimed the club’s interest had been revived, just two weeks after the Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, has claimed his superstar client remains committed to Liverpool.

Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be on £175million a year after joining Al-Nassr from Manchester United, considered the highest salary in football history.

He has signed a two-year deal and Salah is being offered a longer contract, at least the three-year deal offered and signed by his former Liverpool team-mate Fabinho when he joined Al-Ittihad in early August. Jordan Henderson, 33, has signed a two-year contract with an option for a third year with the club.

Salah, who turned 31 in June, is seven years younger than Ronaldo and is the most famous and marketable Arab sportsman in the world.

He also remains Liverpool’s star player and the first name on Jurgen Klopp’s squad list, despite Anfield’s wealth of attacking talent.

With two years left on the £350,000-a-week deal he signed last summer, Salah is reportedly still asking for a transfer fee well in excess of £70m, meaning Al-Ittihad would have to pay the whole thing for him to commit to Liverpool. around 600 million pounds.

That staggering sum seems unlikely given the Merseysiders barely had time to sign a replacement this month, but Liverpool have already realized this summer that the financial clout of Saudi clubs has transformed the footballing landscape. Salah could be targeted again next year with a similarly lucrative deal, although time is running out to complete the deal before the Saudi market closes next month.

Several English clubs are interested in Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, who could move to the Championship on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old was loaned out to Blackburn Rovers last season, making 40 league appearances before picking up a foot injury in April. The Reds star recently returned to full training after foot surgery cut short his 2022/23 season.

This is Anfield now reporting that several clubs have already applied to hire Morton for the rest of the season and the Merseyside club are set to approve a deal as they chase another midfielder in the transfer market.

Morton is a graduate of Liverpool’s academy and his move to Blackburn was the only time he spent time away from the Merseyside club, a period in which he made an impact. Another loan move would help the 20-year-old develop further as playing time will be difficult at Anfield for the rest of the season.

Morton played nine senior games for Liverpool, two of them in the Premier League. His last appearance in England’s top flight came in December 2021, when Jürgen Klopp launched him as a starter in a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur amid an injury crisis in midfield.

Measuring only 1.80m, he is slightly shorter than the central defender that Jürgen Klopp usually recruits. But he’s young – 21 – and left-handed, something the Reds are clamoring for.

At £35m, he’s also relatively good value. It was reported yesterday that Hincapie could cost at least €60m which is certainly not something Liverpool would be happy with. But at £35m he’d be much, much tastier.

The dark side of all of this is that we don’t necessarily want the type of characters who are ready to make progress from their current clubs. It may be naïve, but it doesn’t bode particularly well for Hincapie’s agent who is the same one who recently torched Liverpool in the Moises Caicedo saga.

The Reds will not have forgotten him and it really feels like the agents are pulling the strings. Still, Hincapie could still be interesting for Liverpool at a cheap price.

The transformation of the Liverpool midfielder: reasons to be happy, parts 1, 2 and 3
Liverpool’s recent victory at Anfield against Bournemouth might not have been as haunting as it was at this time last year, but there were signs of a new horizon.

A promising end to the season in terms of form and results, an initially optimistic start to our summer transfer business, then disruptive Arabian Nights followed by no return attempts to lure Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Anfield.

Add an incomplete stand at Anfield and things are a bit turbulent.

Glad everything is going well on the pitch as the new season has started…

An overly generous and sloppy opening, profuse gifts offered as a goal in our own half seemed elusive. When the ball first landed in the Liverpool net on Saturday, the incident itself – and the linesman’s flag – should have acted like fragrant salts.

    But they didn’t.

Even with a deficit, Jurgen Klopp’s players seemed to be tripping over their own feet, as if the score in the corresponding game last season had entitled them to sleepwalk in the first home game.

As juxtapositions go, this was the opposite of what happened at Stamford Bridge six days earlier, where Liverpool were dominant and calm until Mo Salah’s VAR foul turned an expected 2-0 lead into a inconclusive 1-1 draw.

Three goals and a red card later, and it looked a little more than scripted we might have imagined for the start of 2023/24, after 2022/23 ended with a run of seven wins and four draws in one unbeaten streak last 11 Premier League games.

Perspective and all while some of us are opting for the layer of emotional protection that comes with an “expect the worst and hope for the best” approach to our hopes this time around despite the transfer setbacks, I think there are reasons to be cheerful. A two-part renovation

    Two-part rebuild

    A two-part rebuild
The midfield, which had long been the elephant in the Anfield dressing room – including during winning seasons in the Champions League and Premier League – has finally had its much-needed restart.

Partly planned, partly unexpected. Five out, three in as things stand, with the third of those newcomers arriving just over 24 hours before kickoff on Saturday.

It provided an uplifting but uncomfortable rejuvenation.

The numbers game is no doubt a concern, but it was tempered by the emergence of Stefan Bajcetic last season and the ground made up by Curtis Jones in the run up to that. Of the others we were able to keep, Thiago remains but will certainly stick to his average, missing at least a third of the season, while the decision on Harvey Elliott, which seemed to raise more questions than answers, is still largely undecided. his late appearance on Saturday.

The departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came as no surprise this summer, but the losses of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson were clearly not part of the script.

The latter two were certainly keen on their lucrative move east, but it was highly unusual for Liverpool to let them go without a replacement being found and secured.

    The next great midfield duo?

    Two-part rebuild
Rightly or wrongly, Fabinho and Henderson provided Liverpool’s midfield base for a long time, with a revolving door system dictating who should play alongside them.

Demographics are changing dramatically. The departure of Henderson and Fabinho could very well do us.

    The next great midfield duo?

You can’t help but be thrilled by the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai who, together, offer us third eye vision and a force of nature that can mesmerizingly serve us for many years to come.

Mac Allister is perfect for Liverpool in theory. Cultured, intelligent and calm in possession, he worked out the angles in his head long before interacting with the ball. Potentially, after nearly a decade and a half of waiting, we may have finally found an heir for Xabi Alonso.

    The next great midfield duo?
He had difficulties with the red card shown to him on Saturday, but even if it had been a yellow card it would still have been two yellow cards in the first two games.

Even if his sending off against Bournemouth were to be reversed, we will probably have to get used to his periodic suspensions over the next few months.

In Szoboszlai we find a player who seems to have everything you could want from a midfielder.

Power, pace, offensive spirit, no problem handling the dark arts when necessary, nose for goal, will to win, passion and dedication. An iron fist in a player’s velvet glove, it’s a joy to behold.

    The missing piece?

Liverpool set to seek final offer to sign £32m midfielder – report
Our latest signing, Wataru Endo, entered the fray shortly after Mac Allister’s departure on Saturday, and played his part in taking us to as serene a third endgame as we could have wished for with 10 men.

Strangely, Endo was canceled by a glass-half-empty caller on the Radio Merseyside phone as I was walking home, apparently for no better reason than the fact that it was about £95m cheaper than Caicedo would have stopped us.

Whether or not Klopp makes another midfield addition before the end of the transfer window, signing Endo could prove to be a smart move.

The departures of Henderson, Fabinho and Milner have seen much of the team’s experience disappear and the Japanese captain is able to make up some of the shortfall.

We’ll probably need a lot of that at Tyneside next Sunday in a game where we can’t afford to have Cody Gakpo in midfield.

Coming off a crucial win over Bournemouth, a fixture between trips to Chelsea and Newcastle next Sunday gives us an opportunity to make a statement if we can.

That goes for both Liverpool’s position and whether Eddie Howe and his players are raising doubts about how they feel about themselves and their chances this season.

Liverpool may have found Mohamed Salah's successor who would be happy to move and two transfers have been confirmed
Liverpool may have found a solution to Mohamed Salah’s ‘impossible’ job, with a defender who is reportedly keen to move between two confirmed transfers.

Every football club likes to get their business done early, but in recent years it has gone to extremes for Liverpool.

In 2022, the Reds thought they were home and dry after signing deals for Fábio Carvalho, Darwin Núñez and Calvin Ramsay before the end of June, but were then rather embarrassingly forced back into the market for a midfielder after a disappointing defeat. start of the new season affected by injuries.

This resulted in a deadline day transfer for Juventus midfielder Arthur, a move that looked like a panic buy and became one of the worst transfers in Premier League history, with the Brazilian playing just 13 minutes of football.

Twelve months later, the club looked well placed and in control after signing Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in early July, but things descended into chaos. The lucrative but unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League have completely changed the landscape, and while the latter has likely been replaced by Wataru Endo, there is still a sense that Liverpool could be looking for further reinforcement from the midfield . until the last day.

    Johan Bakayoko.
Liverpool may have found Mohamed Salah’s answer
Liverpool may have discovered a potential successor to Mohamed Salah in PSV’s Johan Bakayoko.

The Reds face an almost impossible task to find a replacement for Salah, not only due to his world-class talent but also because he is left-footed.

However, Bakayoko’s “profile and skillset” suggest that he could be a viable candidate, provided he takes the necessary steps in developing him.

Josh Williams tells the full story here, amid claims the Reds are keeping tabs on the youngster. Piero Hincapie wants to go to Liverpool

Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapié would like to join Liverpool before the end of the transfer window, according to journalist Ben Jacobs (via Last Word on Spurs).

The Ecuadorian has long been the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, but has indicated his preference would be a move to Anfield.

However, the club are still not “fully sold” at this point, clearly raising some concerns about the 21-year-old’s preparation for the top tier, or perhaps the finances involved.

James Martin has more of that story here, along with news of two confirmed Liverpool transfers now that deals for 16-year-old couple Trey Nyoni and Amara Nallo have been finalised.

Liverpool could face $89m repeat of Aurélien Tchouaméni transfer problem but already has initial fix

Liverpool could face $89m repeat of Aurélien Tchouaméni transfer problem but already has initial fix
Liverpool opted not to move for anyone else last summer when Aurélien Tchouaméni was unavailable, but Jürgen Klopp made no such mistake this time around.

Having secured a deal for Wataru Endo in time for the Japanese captain’s debut in this weekend’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth, attention will now turn to what else Liverpool can do before Friday’s transfer deadline .

Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke could have hectic days ahead, with glaring gaps in the Liverpool squad still to be filled. But what is the next priority for the Reds?

On the one hand, Endo presents itself as a seemingly short-term solution. It’s too early to judge, but the 30-year-old will need time to adjust to the Premier League’s pace in Saturday’s minimum test.

It could therefore be tempting to bring in another midfielder when there is also a need to consider another centre-back, as that is the other obvious pressing issue.

There is something else that goes into any decision on multiple signings in midfield. Crystal Palace value Cheick Doucouré at a staggering $89m (£70m/€82m) according to the Evening Standard, amid interest from the Reds, no doubt buoyed by Liverpool’s desperation – tempered at some way from the addition of Endo – for a defensive midfielder.

    Cheick Doucouré

Liverpool could face $89m repeat of Aurélien Tchouaméni transfer problem but already has initial fix
But spending $89m on Doucoure now, Liverpool would say this was the player they wanted for Klopp in that role for years to come. You don’t spend that much on a backup option (unless you’re Chelsea). Adding a second short-term fix (even one cheaper than Doucouré) would also clog up roster spots.

Having lost Aurélien Tchouaméni and now Moisés Caicedo, Liverpool need a world-class option to fill that role, especially as the more attacking system relies heavily on that player, but whether or not Doucouré has the potential to become one. of the best in the world in that position.

He may be very good and could have been Crystal Palace’s player of the year, but $89m is a sum set aside for a potential turning point at Anfield – and Doucouré may not represent that.

Liverpool, who signed Endo, have avoided putting themselves in the same position they did last season when it comes to midfielders. There will be no panic loan for Arthur Melo 2.0 in the next few days.

But there is still a mystery about what comes next. If the next Caicedo or Tchouaméni isn’t available for purchase, there’s a reason not to do anything until it changes.

In the meantime, Endo can hopefully catch up and Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić can be fit more often than not. Signing Doucoure would improve Liverpool’s chances in the short term but perhaps limit the cap in the long term. That’s essentially the conclusion Liverpool came to last season when they decided not to give up anyone in lieu of a Tchouameni alternative.

The difference this year is that there should be enough cover and new energy has already been added in the form of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai who immediately improve Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with leaving the club this summer.

Apparently, Saudi clubs are interested in signing the 31-year-old Egypt international and it remains to be seen if Liverpool are ready to approve his departure.

According to a report from Calciomercatoweb, the Premier League giants are already looking for a possible replacement for the 31-year-old winger.

Salah has been one of the best players in the world since joining Liverpool and is the team’s top scorer. The Egypt international has helped them win several trophies during his time at the club and his departure would be a huge blow for the Reds. Apparently, Liverpool are eyeing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa as a possible replacement for the Egyptian. Chiesa was considered a world-class talent when he led Italy to the 2021 European Championships.

However, the Italian has yet to tap into his potential. He’s had some injury problems and it remains to be seen if he can get back to his best form.

The 25-year-old is undoubtedly an exceptional talent with a bright future ahead of him and a move to Liverpool could give him the fresh start he needs now. Working under Jurgen Klopp could help the Italian to continue improving. Apparently, the winger is valued at €50m and has a contract with the Italian club until the summer of 2025. Liverpool should get a lot more if they sell Salah and can afford the Italy international.

According to report Liverpool in 'advanced talks' for wonderkid midfielder on negotiate deal
Liverpool close to another midfielder and could get a highly prized gem for a fraction of what it could be worth

Liverpool are in talks to sign a highly regarded young midfielder to bolster their team’s ranks.

The Reds are still short on numbers in the center of the park but picked up their first win of the season at the weekend at home to Bournemouth, with new signing Wataru Endo coming off the bench. However, manager Jurgen Klopp would like a few more signings in midfield, with Cody Gakpo having played there lately.

With just under two weeks before the window closes, Liverpool may be in for a surge of activity after all – and efforts to bring in a certain young star have ramped up.

The Daily Mail say the Merseysiders are in talks to bring Ryan Gravenberch to Anfield this summer, having had an interest in him for a year – with assistant Pep Lijnders possibly influential in the deal. According to the Telegraph, Lijnders has played a bigger role in recruitment since the departure of sporting director Michael Edwards, with the Dutchman apparently playing a key role in the decision to join Gakpo. Gravenberch is another Dutch star – who could increase the presence of Dutch internationals at Melwood.

adapts perfectly to the system and can affect the game at all stages.

Having joined for just £16m last summer, Gravenberch could well be sold in a deal that favors the Reds over some of the more expensive targets they had in their sights. Liverpool could even negotiate a move on loan with a fee agreed at the end, mandatory or optional

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel is said to be a fan of the young midfielder, but with plenty of competition at the Allianz Arena he has played just three games since joining from Ajax. Gravenberch is valued at 30 million euros by Transfermarkt.

The Manchester United and Liverpool transfer target has been flagged as one to watch until deadline day

According to report Liverpool in 'advanced talks' for wonderkid midfielder on negotiate deal
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the transfer of Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch amid interest from Manchester United and Liverpool.

It appears the situation hasn’t changed much in recent days, with Romano reporting that both Man Utd and Liverpool have inquired about the Dutch international.

Romano expects this to be one to watch until the end of the transfer window, suggesting that could change, although Bayern are currently unenthusiastic about letting Gravenberch go…

Gravenberch previously looked like a top contender at his old club Ajax but hasn’t played regularly at Bayern so far, so he’d do well to move on.

The 21-year-old could still boost his career with the right move, and would certainly suit well at Man Utd, where they are a bit short in midfield.

LFC have also had some trouble in that department lately, although they have signed three players in that part of the pitch: Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

According to Romano ‘incredible’ Liverpool midfield target is joining PL rivals

Liverpool are likely to still be on the hunt for more midfielders before the transfer window closes.

The Reds have managed to sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart.

The Japan international’s move to Anfield was a relief for Liverpool after a difficult week.

Not only did Liverpool lose Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to the Saudi Pro League, but two of their top targets moved to Chelsea instead.

However, there is more disappointing midfield news regarding another top midfielder linked with the Reds. The player in question is Leeds United and United States star Tyler Adams, who was linked with Liverpool 90 minutes ago.

The 90Min report acknowledged Bournemouth were favorites to sign the American, and they are now close to a deal.

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter Friday night to say “here we go” on Adams to the South Coast.

The “excellent” player would have passed a medical and signed a five-year contract.

    Our point of view

In this case, Liverpool fans are unlikely to be too disappointed as the speculation seemed rather superficial. However, the Reds have lost an “incredible” player who was perfectly positioned for a big move, as he was relegated to Leeds.

Chelsea, in fact, tried to sign Adams, before pulling the plug and opting for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

That said, Liverpool have done it with the signing of Endo, and they will no doubt make further additions before the start of September.

  • Liverpool will have to spend €70 million for a versatile South American.

Liverpool will have to spend €70 million for a versatile South American.

    Piero Hincapie
The defender from Ecuador, Piero Hincapie, has been linked to Liverpool.

Liverpool will have to pay a premium this summer in order to sign the 21-year-old central defender, claims a report from the German publication BILD.

It appears that Bayer Leverkusen values the player at €70 million, and it is unclear if Liverpool will be willing to match that sum.

Hincapie is one of the best young players in the Bundesliga right now and is highly regarded there. The 21-year-old is incredibly talented and has the potential to become an important player for Liverpool in the upcoming season.

Hincapie can play both left-back and the left-sided central defender. He might turn out to be a great addition for Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool could use a defensive full-back in their current system as Andrew Robertson appeared to be quite vulnerable last season. If he joins the team, Hincapie could offer more defensive consistency in the left-back position.

The Reds will be able to play in a back three if necessary thanks to his arrival, which will also increase Liverpool’s tactical versatility.

Liverpool is currently in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and it is unclear if they will also be willing to spend a significant amount of money on a central defender.

The Reds need to adequately upgrade their squad because they will be desperate to return to the Champions League. They were quite weak on defense last season, so it might be a good idea to bring in a top-notch center back.

Jürgen Klopp has just been offered 30 reasons by Cody Gakpo to continue Liverpool’s transfer overhaul.

Cody Gakpo has yet to come to grips with life as a midfielder. The Dutchman is a solid player but he has a big department to improve on.
Cody Gakpo has yet to come to grips with life as a midfielder. The Dutchman is a solid player but he has a big department to improve on.

Cody Gakpo faces a tough challenge this month in his first two rounds in the Premier League. Jürgen Klopp has so far taken four points from his duels against Chelsea and Bournemouth, and in those games he has used Gakpo as a midfielder rather than a striker.

The Dutchman was deployed as the number eight left wing in the two games, largely due to a lack of options in the engine room at the moment. Since Klopp approved the surprise departures of both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho this summer, he has so far only replaced the pair with Wataru Endo, who only signed on the dotted line on Friday.

Additionally, Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić are currently recovering from injuries, with Gakpo forced to play as a makeshift midfielder to fill his boss’s void. The 24-year-old talent performed admirably but seemed to have an obvious weakness in his game.

Simply put, Gakpo is not used to touching the ball often. As a striker, he was used to being involved in the last third before creating chances or scoring a goal for PSV Eindhoven – his former club – which explains why he sometimes found himself a little uncomfortable when he had to offer himself as a a factor constant. possibility of moving to Anfield. Against Chelsea in the opening weekend, he amassed a total of just 10 completions in 65 minutes before being replaced by Curtis Jones, who then completed 15 in just 25 minutes on the pitch. No player who started the game completed fewer passes than Gakpo, which is quite incredible considering his position in the center of the park.

Liverpool hosted Bournemouth at Anfield this weekend. Klopp again made the decision to use Gakpo as number eight – with Jones sidelined with an ankle problem – but despite the Reds winning 3-1, the same problem arose. The Dutch international had just 20 completed passes this time around, again the fewest for a player in the red. Gakpo has played a total of 127 minutes in England’s top flight this season and is averaging just 21 assists per 90 minutes. It’s far too early to judge numbers as the sample size is simply too small to be reliable, but its average is very low for a midfielder in a dominant team.

Cody Gakpo has yet to come to grips with life as a midfielder. The Dutchman is a solid player but he has a big department to improve on.
To illustrate, Dominik Szoboszlai has averaged 50 out of 90 successful passes in an identical role on the right flank, and it’s also worth noting that he’s a new signing, having arrived from RB Leipzig earlier this summer. Jones, who could return in the coming weeks, averaged 53 out of 90 assists last season in the Premier League.

Gakpo is generally a positive contributor and his ceiling is undeniably high, but if he is to continue playing in the middle of the park he will need to give the Reds more control by getting on the ball more often and finding his teammates with accurate passing.

Speaking to AD last season, Gakpo spoke about his gradual evolution to become more of a center-of-the-park midfielder.

“Guus Hiddink was the first to mention the change,” he said. \”He was at PSV for a while as a sounding board. I didn’t want to believe it then. And not even when Roger Schmidt later said the same thing to PSV. I was more stubborn than now and felt good on the left wing. But at the last World Cup I was already more central on the pitch and at Liverpool also permanently in the last six months. I’m just more excited to improve at that place in the near future.”

“He’s been playing number eight pretty much all preseason,” said his manager, Klopp, when asked about his performance this weekend. “Players can play in different positions in modern football. Not even Szoboszlai played in that position for his old club. The role suits him.

Klopp might be right, but based on his past performances, Gakpo seems like a striker who receives the ball less often but poses a real threat whenever he’s involved. He certainly has the quality to develop as a midfielder, but his obscurity perhaps offers a glimpse of Liverpool’s need to continue their top-flight rebuilding work.

The engine room renovation is nearing completion with the additions of Endo, Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this summer. However, more reinforcements are needed if Klopp really wants to challenge on all fronts this season.
