Paris Sees Big Potential in CMB: ‘Tremendous Natural Touch,’ but Still Room to Evolve for Next Level

In a live update from Gamecock basketball, sophomore Collin Murray-Boyles continues to make a lasting impact. Since his first start, Murray-Boyles has demonstrated extraordinary talent, averaging 10.4 points per game last season across 28 games. His skills on the court have quickly set him apart.

Even as a freshman in 2024, Murray-Boyles showcased his potential with the Gamecocks, and now in his second season, he’s upping his game. Head coach Lamont Paris praised Murray-Boyles’ abilities during a recent edition of Carolina Calls, emphasizing his “tremendous natural touch.” Paris noted that Murray-Boyles excels in making difficult finishes rather than relying on easy shots.

“He’s not just generating easy shots, but he has such a great touch that he finishes difficult ones. His ability to extend his range is absolutely there,” Paris said, showing full confidence in the young player.

Despite his impressive abilities, growth remains key for Murray-Boyles, both in his current season with the Gamecocks and potentially at the next level. Paris emphasized the need for Murray-Boyles to develop more confidence, especially in attacking off the dribble and generating offense during transition plays.

“Getting more confidence in attacking, playing off the dribble, and bringing the ball up in transition—those are the areas we want to see growth,” Paris explained. “Even generating offense in face-up situations and attacking defenders to make plays is something he can refine.”

This season, Murray-Boyles is posting strong numbers, averaging 16.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, solidifying his status as a versatile threat. Paris pointed out the expansive range of Murray-Boyles’ skillset, saying there’s almost no aspect of the game that’s beyond his reach with enough time.

“There’s just not too many things in basketball where you would doubt that Collin could add it to his game,” Paris said. “His potential is massive.”

Still, the coach remains focused on Murray-Boyles’ continued growth, believing the young player’s ceiling is far from being reached.

“He’s a young guy, and that’s why I keep talking about how incredibly high his ceiling is,” Paris added, reinforcing just how much more there is to come from Collin Murray-Boyles.
