Paulo Fonseca

Paulo Fonseca, the former manager of Roma, is apparently in contact with Liverpool, who are adding another Italian manager to their increasing list.

Anfield Watch claims that Paulo Fonseca is included on Liverpool’s shortlist and that the Italian is in contact with the club. According to several sources, Ruben Amorim is no longer a possibility, and the current manager of LOSC Lille is one of the numerous candidates being considered to succeed Jurgen Klopp.

Is Paulo Fonseca being considered by Liverpool?

There have been rumours that an agreement with Ruben Amorim marked the end of the Liverpool management merry-go-round, but that may not be the case. In what seems to be a surprise move, the Portuguese may not sign with the Reds in the summer and is instead in negotiations with West Ham.

Since Amorim was removed from Liverpool’s list of rumoured targets, Paulo Fonseca’s name is emerging as well. The current LOSC Lille player, who was previously with Roma, has surfaced as a potential addition for the Merseysiders to take into consideration. His knockout football experience and style of play are apparently major selling points.

Fonseca never made it to English football after being connected to Tottenham back in 2021, despite having a few more connections, including one to Crystal Palace last summer. The Merseyside fan base and neutrals are taken aback by the Liverpool connections, as he isn’t a well-known enough replacement for Klopp in the dugout.

According to reports, Fonseca has been in contact with Liverpool to discuss his plans and availability to leave Lille over the off-season. There isn’t an agreement between the two sides since the club is weighing their alternatives in the market after being connected to a couple more high-profile players recently.

Roberto De Zerbi and Arne Slot are further choices.

Roberto De Zerbi and Arne Slot

Ever since Xabi Alonso decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for the entirety of the current season, Roberto De Zerbi came to the attention of Liverpool. The Brighton manager may resurface on the Reds’ radar as the season comes to an end, although they have apparently lost interest in him recently.

Arne Slot, the title-winning coach of Feyenoord and a former target of Tottenham, is another possibility; the Dutchman has been said to be leaving the Eredivisie team during the off-season. While time will tell who Liverpool closes in on to replace Klopp, he too can be seen as a good, progressive alternative to explore.
