Harry Redknapp has selected the player he feels should take over as Liverpool’s manager after Jurgen Klopp.

It’s the unanswered issue that keeps coming up: Who will manage Liverpool going forward?

To the immense credit of Jurgen Klopp and his team, their pursuit of an unprecedented quadruple has not been affected by the news that the renowned manager will be departing Anfield at the end of the season.

The Reds will focus on the Europa League tonight when they play Sparta Prague in the opening leg of their round-of-16 match, having previously won the Carabao Cup. Following that, the Premier League leaders will make their way back to Merseyside in time for Sunday’s major domestic matchup against title rivals Manchester City.

It’s looking like an amazing finish to Klopp’s nearly nine-year tenure, as Liverpool has advanced to the FA quarterfinals and will play Manchester United. However, in light of this, FSG, the club’s owners, needs to locate a replacement for him.

The favourite is Xabi Alonso, who led the Reds to victory in the Champions League in 2005 and is working wonders at Bayer Leverkusen. Highly regarded Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is rumoured to be in the running, along with Roberto De Zerbi of Brighton & Hove Albion and current Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann.

Even though Steven Gerrard is perhaps the best player in Liverpool history, he is not expected to succeed Klopp. He is currently managing Al-Ettifaq of the Saudi Pro League and is trying to regain his management reputation after being fired by Aston Villa.

Harry Redknapp, a former manager of Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur, thinks Gerrard ought to take over as manager of the Reds. “I’m going to say somebody and people are going to think that I’m off my rocker, but I would give it to Steven Gerrard,” Redknapp stated in an interview with BetVictor.

“I understand that some will argue that he wasn’t successful at Aston Villa and that things didn’t work out there, but he is a Liverpool supporter and was a fantastic player for them. He has a strong love for the game, and I used to think he was going to be a top drawer after hearing him talk while he was with the Rangers. I would adore him as Liverpool’s manager.

“Xabi Alonso would also be a wise decision, but there’s a strong chance he’ll end up at Bayern Munich—a huge team that also succeeded in forcing Harry Kane out of the Premier League last summer. Even though I know I’m probably not in the majority, I still think Steven Gerrard should win because I don’t give up on people.

“To do effectively as a manager, you require the appropriate players. Take a look at Unai Emery at Aston Villa; he was awful at Arsenal before moving to Villa, where he is excelling. It just happened to work for him there—it’s a different club with different players and other conditions. For this one, Steven Gerrard has my support.

Meanwhile, Redknapp has declared who his Premier League manager of the month is—and it’s not Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, or Klopp. “Season manager? For me, Rob Edwards, Luton Town manager,” he murmured. “At this stage of the season, I believe he has accomplished a remarkable feat by having Luton in the running for the title. I adore how they approach things and play; they really take aim at teams and give it their best.

“What they’re accomplishing is a breath of new air; they’re in the game and attempting to win them in every match they play. Edwards has performed admirably for them; although I don’t know him well, he seems like a wonderful young man.

You may certainly award it to Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola, but these teams are designed to be difficult to manage because they have outstanding players and outstanding groups. It’s a wonder that Edwards is still in the running to stay in the Premier League at all because they are operating out of a tiny stadium with very little funding and a very tight budget.
