Real Madrid star ‘contacted’ and interest ‘increases’ in $107 million striker in Liverpool transfer news

Apparently, a Real Madrid defender has been contacted about a switch to Liverpool. It’s also said that interest in Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres is growing.
Any transfer choices can only be made with complete certainty after Liverpool has decided who will succeed Jürgen Klopp this summer. Apart from that, the Reds’ team is doing so well that major overhauls are not necessary.
Nonetheless, it makes sense to rotate things around and keep the squad getting better. Being still is just not an option, and both Richard Hughes, the new sporting director of Liverpool, and Michael Edwards, the CEO of football at FSG, will be aware of this.
The signing of certain key players to longer contracts is likely more significant than moves, since Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah are all set to expire in 2025. However, adding a little more talent to the squad would also be beneficial.
This is Liverpool.com’s assessment of the transfer rumours that have surfaced regarding the Reds today, including those involving a potential departure from Real Madrid as defender. A forward for Sporting CP is rumoured to have gone goal crazy this season, but it’s unclear if Liverpool will make adding another number nine a top priority.
Ferland Mendy [Real Madrid]
According to L’Equipe, Liverpool is one of several teams contemplating a summer deal for Real Madrid full-back Ferland Mendy. When the season ends, the 28-year-old Frenchman will only have 12 months left on his contract, and several Premier League teams are reportedly looking to strike a possible deal in light of this.
Arsenal has reportedly spoken to the player about a possible transfer in addition to Liverpool, however official negotiations have not yet taken place. It’s rumoured that the Reds won’t commit until they have a new manager in place. Both Manchester clubs and Newcastle United have also expressed interest.
Although Mendy is a skilled player with a wealth of experience, Liverpool.com notes that he is a little older than the team would typically pursue. If this one could be completed, it would be unexpected.
Viktor Gyökeres [Sporting CP]
Liverpool is “increasingly” interested in Sporting CP attacker Viktor Gyökeres ahead of the summer, according to HITC. Over the weekend, Rúben Amorim’s team defeated Vitória de Guimarães, who were in fifth place, 3-0, and it was said that some Reds scouts were present to watch him.
Liverpool reportedly also examined left-footed center-back Gonçalo Inácio and holding midfielder Morten Hjulmand during their visit. Those two spots would appear to be more likely to be sought than a different forward, barring the withdrawal of one of the current alternatives. Gyökeres’ contract contains a $107 million (£86 million/€100 million) release clause.
Liverpool.com speculates that after The Athletic suggested that Amorim might not be the front-runner for the Anfield position, there will be less talk linking Liverpool to moves for Sporting stars. We shall quickly ascertain.
