Saudi Arabia is preparing a significant charm drive for the "quick" Liverpool colossus, who may depart this summer.

Virgil van Dijk might leave Liverpool during the summer transfer window.

His present terms are scheduled to expire in June 2025, and according to sources close to CaughtOffside, there is no progress being made on an extension.

The Dutchman is still a top target for the Saudi Pro League, though. In the upcoming weeks, the Public Investment Fund will meet with the defender’s representatives to evaluate the viability of a transfer.

Who would be curious about Virgil van Dijk?

Al-Nassr, the team starring Cristiano Ronaldo, is one of the most eager clubs. The Saudi team wants to let go of Aymeric Laporte and is thinking of signing Van Dijk and Marquinhos should the former Manchester City player depart.

The Brazilian had previously consented to personal terms last summer, but PSG turned down an offer to sign him.

The league is eager to find out if the “fast” (as Antoine Semenyo defined) Liverpool mainstay is interested in moving to the Middle East, although no formal bid has yet been made.

Liverpool want to hold off until after the Euros.

In the end, Liverpool is waiting until after June and the international competitions, much like many other elite European teams, to make decisions about the futures of their important players.

Van Dijk is now focusing on competing for his country in the 2024 European Championship. We will have more conversations with his delegates in the coming weeks.

According to people with direct knowledge of the matter, Saudi Arabia is prepared to do all it takes to convince the former Southampton player to sign.

This season marks the beginning of a new era for Liverpool, after nearly nine years.

Jurgen Klopp has left a legacy for Arne Slot to build on, and the new Reds manager will be eager to get started in his first Premier League game, away to newly promoted Ipswich Town.

Slot has had a mixed start, with Liverpool’s first significant test coming away to Manchester United before the end of August. They will meet last season’s runners-up Arsenal on October 26 and Manchester City for the first time on November 30, when the champions visit Anfield. Their Merseyside derbies against Everton are in December and April, with the first at Goodiosn Park. Liverpool will visit Leicester City on Boxing Day before concluding their 2024 season away to West Ham. The season closes at home against Crystal Palace.
