‘Sexy football’: Roy Keane and Alan Shearer concur on the Liverpool player they ‘love to watch’

Liverpool defeated Brighton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League. For Jürgen Klopp’s team, Alexis Mac Allister made another strong showing in the middle of the park.
In Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, Alexis Mac Allister was the standout player, according to both Alan Shearer and Roy Keane.
Despite failing to score, the 25-year-old was Liverpool’s primary creative force when against his former team. After Luis Díaz equalised earlier in the game, he set up Mohamed Salah with a wonderful ball that proved to be the game-winning goal.
In the game, Mac Allister produced the most opportunities and had an amazing 92% pass accuracy rate. With 12 goal contributions so far this season, he leads all Liverpool midfield players in that category.
Shearer stated on Match of the Day: “Mac Allister stated in the post-match interview that over the week, Salah expressed his need for more passes from him. He really did give that.
“They both had great understanding, and Mac Allister was undoubtedly the best player on the pitch. You can see that as soon as Salah receives the ball, he takes off, running for the ball in the hopes that someone will locate him.
“He did just that—he walked in behind the defender and away from him. He picks him out after a spectacular run; as soon as he looks up, he takes off and delivers the ball. Improved touch and he’s in again. He entered the game so many times, even though his finishing was subpar today. A great striker never gives up and finally scores the goal.
“Mac Allister was the catalyst for everything that made Liverpool great; his flips and trickery, his incredible confidence, and his excellent passing were all there. Another instance was when Salah knew precisely what he wanted and delivered it—he hadn’t even moved the ball from under his feet.
He is always advancing his team there with his little tricks, flips, and other moves. He performed incredibly well down [Harvey] Elliott’s right side. Salah then finds himself in the middle, and the custodian pulls off a fantastic save with his right foot.
The players touching the ball about, but he’s offering himself Mac Allister and he doesn’t receive it till later. This is another excellent example of how you talk about being available for your teammates. He doesn’t get it on the first run, and this is what [Jürgen] Klopp said was amazing about it.
“He’s shifting it around once again, executing 14 passes in the process, so [Dominik] Szoboszlai receives the ball, touches Salah with his left foot first, and then touches Salah with his right foot. It places it directly in front of him so he may finish with his left foot.
“That was a beautiful goal, but Mac Allister’s play in the middle there—what a steal he was, and what a season he’s had. Mo Salah scored the goal, but he was mostly responsible for the three points they received. He was playing a little higher up the pitch, and he was simply amazing.”
In his remarks on Sky Sports, Keane expressed his praise for Mac Allister as well, adding, “Brilliant, brilliant pass, Mac Allister.” I can assure you that he is a clever football player. He makes excellent decisions, and I find that impressive. And once more, similar to anything else that happens when you simply accelerate in the latter third.
“The way he executes the pass, how much weight it carries, and Salah’s initial touch are all flawless. I find this football to be sexy. Enjoy viewing it.”
According to Liverpool.com, Mac Allister has emerged as the show’s star since the beginning of the year. That’s mostly because Wataru Endō, who occupied the defensive midfield position, allowed the Argentine to play in his natural area. He might be a major contributor to Liverpool winning the championship if he can maintain this level of performance. He appears to be the Reds’ next big star in the making.
