Arne Slot, the Feyenoord manager, is expected to succeed Jurgen Klopp this summer, and the Kop manager is willing to speak with the new man in the Anfield dugout if necessary.
Jurgen Klopp says that if new Liverpool manager Arne Slot wants to talk trash about the team he’s leaving, he can count on his phone being on.
However, the Kop manager is adamant that he will not be the one to demand that Slot or any other new employee contact him for a lowdown. The departing Reds boss thinks he has not finished building “Liverpool 2.0.” Upon being asked if he would talk to the new manager, Klopp replied, “It’s not my call.”
“I’m not qualified to offer guidance. I have my phone number on file, so anyone in the globe can call me when they are new.
“In this club, we can talk about anything and everything. I enjoy talking about everything.” I have no trouble chatting to anyone; I like doing so. But it’s not my concern or my responsibility to be available to ask him or her.
“That’s not a problem, I’ll share what I know.”
Liverpool knows that a miracle would be required to end the Premier League title fairytale for manager Jurgen Klopp as they prepare for their penultimate home game of the season against Tottenham tomorrow.
However, Chelsea’s victory over Spurs on Thursday night proved the Reds’ qualifying for the Champions League.
The German manager is adamant that the “pressure is off,” which means he can now enjoy his final three games in command of the Reds. The first being tomorrow’s visit from Spurs, followed by trips to Aston Villa and Wolves at home.
“That’s totally my idea. If I didn’t do it, it would be absurd,” he remarked. Although it takes some persuasion, it is nevertheless acceptable to be pleased about Champions League qualification.
“Losing the following game, particularly at home, and falling to Wolves and Aston Villa is not helpful. In that sense, it’s not enjoyable. Football is being played. We will attempt to win games because it is the only way to enjoy football. That’s the real reason we train.
“We get the boys ready, make the most of our current time, and let’s see what we can accomplish. Indeed, my intention is to relish it.
Although the Reds’ Champions League qualification may have been a triumph, they had once set their sights on a quadruple after winning the Carabao Cup in February and appearing to have a good chance of winning the FA Cup, Europa League, and the title.
But Klopp thinks his successor can carry on the building and doesn’t think it needs to stop with a youthful team and a rejuvenated midfield.
“You have to see it in the long term as well,” he continued, adding, “We tried to win the league but it didn’t work out.” It’s not over for Liverpool 2.0 and me.
It’s simply Liverpool as it is now. They can take the following steps; this is just the beginning.
The Kop manager also believes that their altercation on the sidelines after last weekend’s 2-2 draw with West Ham was “resolved,” and he is optimistic that Mo Salah will be available to assist.
“Mo is an amazing player, and I don’t think I should talk about that [his future]; other people, especially Mo, will make that decision. I don’t see any indications that it won’t be like that,” he continued.
