  • After a deal is confirmed, Liverpool could complete £100 million in transfers in the last week of the window

After a deal is confirmed, Liverpool could complete £100 million in transfers in the last week of the window

    Harvey Blair

Before deadline day, a number of players, including Bobby Clark and Sepp van den Berg, could be leaving Liverpool. Liverpool is now starting to step up their transfer activities as deadline day draws near.

Richard Hughes and his staff have been hard at work securing lucrative moves away from Anfield for some of the club’s young players, even though the Reds are still the only team in Europe’s top five leagues that haven’t added to their roster this summer.

Bobby Clark, a midfielder, is the most recent player to announce his departure after moving to Red Bull Salzburg for £10 million. The 19-year-old, who paid £1.5 million to join Liverpool from Newcastle United in 2021, is expected to see Pep Lijnders again in Austria. It is believed that Lijnders had a key role in facilitating the transfer.

In addition to obtaining a substantial transfer fee for Clark, Liverpool mediated a matching rights agreement and a 17.5% sell-on clause in the event that the 19-year-old decides to leave Salzburg. His departure follows last week’s departure of Merseyside’s Fabio Carvalho, who joined Brentford for a possible £27.5 million transfer price.

Although certain sections of the Reds’ supporters may have been taken aback by this seeming purge of marginal players, the money made from Clark and Carvalho’s exits may help the team in the long run by adding to Liverpool’s transfer fund. The two players mentioned above are not the only ones who might look for new opportunities this summer; a number of other players on Arne Slot’s team are also anticipated to depart before the deadline on Friday.

    Harvey Blair

Sepp van den Berg, who left Eredivisie club PEC Zwolle for Liverpool in 2019 for a fee of £4.4 million, has joined Carvalho at Brentford. The west London team has reached an agreement to recruit the defender for a total of £25 million, including £5 million in add-ons. German champions Bayer Leverkusen had also expressed interest in Van den Berg after he performed well while on loan at Mainz last season.

Considering that he has never played for Liverpool in the Premier League, the cost is astounding.

In other news, Portsmouth is getting close to signing forward Harvey Blair on a long-term contract after agreeing to pay the Reds £300k for the 20-year-old.

    Harvey Blair

Blair has only one year left on his contract and has mostly played academy football throughout his time on Merseyside, so it’s a decent deal for all parties, even though his fee is small compared to the sums being rumoured for some of his teammates.

Joe Gomez, on the other end of the experience spectrum, is still considering his alternatives in case he decides to leave Liverpool before August 30. Earlier in the transfer season, the Reds had agreed to sell the defender to Newcastle for £45 million as part of a package that would have seen Anthony Gordon go to Newcastle for £75 million.

Gomez’s future is still uncertain despite the failed trade; last weekend, Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Ipswich Town saw the England international left off of the matchday squad. The Reds have maintained that he is still an important member of the team at the AXA Training Centre and that Brentford may choose to visit on Sunday. However, if he were to depart this summer, the club would undoubtedly receive a significant financial boost.

Nat Phillips and Tyler Morton are two players that are very likely to depart on a permanent basis during the course of the upcoming week. While Phillips has drawn interest from Turkey and the Championship this summer, Morton, who is valued at £20 million, has impressed during consecutive loans with Championship teams Blackburn Rovers and Hull City.

Many other young players are anticipated to go on loan, yet if the right offers come up, Liverpool might be persuaded to consent to permanent contracts. Ben Doak, valued at £10 million, and left-back Owen Beck have been linked to long-term departures from Anfield, while Kaide Gordon, James McConnell, Calum Scanlon, and Marcelo Pitaluga are all predicted to make short-term exits.

Stefan Bajcetic, who excelled for the first team in 2021–2022, may be one of the more surprising names connected to a loan move this summer. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for a large portion of the previous campaign due to injury. It would be wise to retain the 19-year-old around given that Liverpool hasn’t added a defensive midfielder since Martin Zubimendi’s transfer from Real Sociedad fell through, even though after missing so much action, he might benefit from regular playing time.

Wataru Endo, who was the target of a £11.8 million bid from Marseille earlier in the summer, might also be a surprise late departure. Even if it doesn’t appear likely that the Japan international will be permitted to leave Merseyside right now, things might change if Liverpool makes a move to get a No. 6 before next Friday.

    Bobby Clark

Bobby Clark, a midfielder for Liverpool, is linked to a number of teams, including Leeds United.

According to reports, Liverpool turned down a fresh offer for Bobby Clark.

For £1.5 million, Clark left Newcastle United to join Liverpool three years ago, and he has advanced impressively on Merseyside. He participated in 11 senior games last season, making his Premier League debut, coming off the bench in the Reds’ victory against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, and scoring his first senior goal in a 6-1 Europa League victory over Sparta Prague.

The 19-year-old, who sustained a back injury at the close of the previous season, is still expected to play in the preseason. But in the midfield hierarchy, he now behind players like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones. Meanwhile, Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, a Spanish international, is a target for incoming head coach Arne Slot.

Red Bull Salzburg is attempting to force Clark to go to Austria as a result, and former Reds assistant manager Pep Lijnders is eager for a reunion. The Athletic reports that Salzburg’s most recent bid of £8.2 million was rejected by Liverpool. His value to the Reds is closer to £12 million.

Championship teams including Leeds United, Coventry City, and Norwich City have expressed interest in signing Clark on a loan; however, if an offer is accepted, Clark may leave the team permanently. Despite not playing in either of Liverpool’s preseason matches on Sunday at Anfield against Sevilla and Las Palmas, Clark is back in training following his injury. Clark posted a silent, black-and-white snapshot of himself on X, the former Twitter, on Sunday night. Some admirers surmise that the adolescent is hinting at his departure with this.

Liverpool has reached an agreement to sell Fabio Carvalho to Brentford for a fee as high as £27.5 million, marking their first major summer transfer. After the Reds friendly doubleheader, Slot told reporters, “From what I’ve been told, there is an agreement in place, but I haven’t spoken with our club.”

“I was fully focused today on this game, so I don’t know exactly what the status of him is, but that was, of course, the reason why he wasn’t selected today.”

"Discussions have begun": The writer from Sky Sports recently learnt about the 22-year-old Liverpool defensive target

If Liverpool wants to sign Willian Pacho, a rumoured target, this summer, they might need to act quickly.

This is due to the fact that PSG is reportedly “exploring” the possibility of signing the Frankfurt defender this summer.

According to Florian Plettenberg on X (previously Twitter), negotiations over a move have already started, indicating that the French company’s interest is “solid.”

The Independent’s Miguel Delaney revealed last week that the Reds had a long-standing interest in the Ecuadorian.

What specific centre-back does Liverpool need?

The fact that Sepp van den Berg and Jarell Quansah were frequently selected to start as the left and right centre backs, respectively, during the preseason may be fairly telling.

To be honest, we haven’t had players like Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, or Ibrahima Konate for significant chunks of this time.

However, could the former Charlton Athletic prospect, our No. 78, and our French international be seen to have sufficiently reinforced the right centre-back position?

This is a challenging topic to answer because we don’t yet know if the latter will be viewed as an all-around center-half or maintain the utility man pattern from the previous season. Similar doubts exist over Konate’s fitness.

That’s not even taking into account the glaring absence of coverage for Van Dijk on the left side.

    James McConnell

James McConnell, a young player for Liverpool, did not participate in the team’s final preseason matches against Sevilla and Las Palmas.

He is expected to leave this month. Despite flying for their US tour, McConnell spent the preseason with the first team but was unable to play because of a minor ailment.

The 19-year-old, meanwhile, was still absent from Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla and 0-0 draw with Las Palmas at Anfield despite his recovery and return to training.

This month, at least five clubs have expressed interest in signing him on a loan; however, considering the circumstances surrounding his peers, a permanent deal is also conceivable.

Ben Doak and Bobby Clark are both free agents; nevertheless, it appears that the club would prefer a short-term deal unless a sizable offer is made.

Hull, Blackburn, Derby, Huddersfield, and Birmingham are reportedly considering McConnell; however, it is unclear if any of those teams have changed their minds two months after the first reports of their interest.

The fact that Liverpool is looking for a new No. 6 before the August 30 transfer deadline suggests how Arne Slot feels about McConnell.

Though there are currently concerns about the fates of Wataru Endo, Tyler Morton, and Stefan Bajcetic, Slot seems to choose Ryan Gravenberch above the other two candidates for the position.

All indications are that McConnell will be leaving Anfield in the summer after going without a game during the preseason and being left out of those last warm-up matches.

A midfielder who turns 20 next month is expected to have developments in the near future, as Liverpool is expected to conclude several agreements now that their preparations are almost finished.

In addition to Clark and Doak, other players that will be leaving include Kaide Gordon, Owen Beck, Sepp van den Berg, Nat Phillips, and Rhys Williams.

While Calvin Ramsay, Luke Chambers, and Lewis Koumas have already joined Stoke on loan, Fabian Mrozek has signed a season-long contract with Swedish team IF Brommapojkarna.

Additionally, Liverpool and Brentford have reached an agreement worth up to £27.5 million, which will send Fabio Carvalho to west London this week.

As of right now, the Reds have no other known targets outside of Zubimendi.

Talks are in progress as Liverpool renegotiate for Anthony Gordon; Newcastle makes their transfer stance known

It makes sense that Newcastle United would struggle to decide what would happen to elite attacking potential Anthony Gordon.

The Reds have started renegotiating with the club for the England international, according to sources with knowledge of the evolving scenario between Liverpool and the Magpies, which CaughtOffside has been informed of.

But it’s believed that Eddie Howe’s team has reiterated that the former Everton player isn’t up for grabs this summer.

“We didn’t want to lose anybody, and Anthony Gordon is a crucial player for us,” the manager has previously acknowledged, according to Fabrizio Romano. “Is it really our goal to lose our best players? We battled tirelessly to arrive at the best choices. Over the past few weeks, it has been really challenging. But Gordon will understand.

How does Newcastle United intend to react?

Based on what CaughtOffside understands, Gordon has had a successful season, and Newcastle is eager to extend his contract.

The 23-year-old’s contract is scheduled to end in 2026. Last season, he contributed 23 goals in 48 games (all competitions combined).

Now that a renewal is being discussed, St. James’ Park officials hope to retain the player in Tyne and Wear until the summer of 2029.

It’s important to note that there are now other teams who could be interested in hiring the left winger, besides Liverpool. Chelsea and Manchester United are both regarded as being eager.

    Bobby Clark

Bobby Clark, a teenage midfielder for Liverpool, has not yet returned to full training after a back injury ended the previous season early.

Bobby Clark, who has been unsuccessful in his attempts to win over new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot, is still recovering from a back ailment. Clark, who made the first team roster last season and played in the League Cup final victory against Chelsea in February, hasn’t been on the pitch since the under-21s’ April Premier League 2 match against Arsenal.

Since Slot’s arrival, the 19-year-old has not returned to full training with the first team and did not participate in Friday’s friendly loss to Preston North End of the Championship.

Rather of focusing on a group rehabilitation programme, Clark was a frequent visitor to the AXA Training Centre in the off-season. It is improbable that he will go with the team on Tuesday for the tour of the United States.

After making an impression in the preseason, the midfield player missed the first four months of the season due to injury. However, in December, he signed a new long-term contract.

After becoming fit again, Clark played in 12 senior games for the Reds, making his Premier League debut in the team’s victory against Nottingham Forest in March. He also made his debut in Europe at Sparta Prague before netting his first senior goal in the match’s rematch.

The former Feyenoord manager formally began his new post earlier this month, and several players have been linked with a move to the Reds, but Slot and the club’s new sporting director, Richard Hughes, have kept their powder dry thus far.

While it is unclear what areas of the squad Slot and Liverpool’s upper brass are looking to bolster, England talents Marc Guehi and Anthony Gordon are still being touted as potential targets.

A number of clubs expressed interest in the 18-year-old, but Jurgen Klopp would not let him leave Liverpool this month.

Many young players have emerged for Liverpool this season, but at the behest of manager Jurgen Klopp, one 18-year-old was prevented from leaving this month.

Bobby Clark, a midfielder for the Reds, is staying put, according to the Daily Mail, despite the Premier League leaders turning down offers to sign the teenager on loan before the transfer deadline from at least two Football League teams.

The 18-year-old is a part of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp’s first-team aspirations, and Klopp felt it would be better for him to continue growing at Anfield than to go out on loan to another English side.

The midfield player has been playing a lot of minutes for the Merseyside team lately; on Wednesday night, he was involved in matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, Bournemouth, and Fulham.

Ever since he transferred from Newcastle to Liverpool’s academy in 2021, Clark has been a much talked about potential. The young player made his first-team debut in 2022 when he came on as a substitute for Liverpool in a 9-0 Anfield home win over AFC Bournemouth.

For the past several weeks, Klopp has demonstrated to Clark how much faith he has in him, and for that reason alone, Merseyside club supporters will be anticipating great things in the years to come.

Liverpool may consider Tosin Adarabioyo, a defender for Fulham, in the summer.

The 26-year-old centre half greatly impressed Liverpool during their Carabao Cup semifinal match at Craven Cottage on Wednesday. Since Tosin is free to speak with foreign teams, AC Milan has already expressed interest in signing him before his contract expires in the summer.

Tottenham was also considering the 6′ 5in defender throughout the summer, and Liverpool is looking to strengthen their defensive lineup. Despite Jurgen Klopp’s departure, a free transfer to replace Joel Matip or another player of their calibre is probably appealing.

Tosin is aware that Fulham wants to keep him, but he will have options as a free agent. Fulham is content to wait and see what happens.

The 26-year-old centre half greatly pleased Liverpool during their Carabao Cup semifinal second leg at Craven Cottage on Wednesday.

After Nat Phillips, a 26-year-old centre back, spent the first half of the season at Celtic, the Reds have permitted him to join Cardiff City on loan for the balance of the season.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Matip all sustained major injuries during the 2020–21 season, during which time Phillips made 20 appearances for the Reds. Phillips has played 29 times for the team. He only made five appearances for Celtic during the previous season, but he made eight appearances throughout the first half of this one.

Although Blackburn had also hoped to sign the defender, he will now play out the remainder of the season in South Wales.

Right-back Calvin Ramsay, who featured just twice for Preston in the first half of the season, has also been loaned by the Reds to Bolton. Ramsay’s loan at Liverpool is expected to go as well as that of right-back Conor Bradley, who won Bolton’s player of the year award following an outstanding campaign and is presently making an impression for the first team.

Liverpool’s left-back After being brought back earlier this month, Owen Beck has also been granted permission to return on loan to Dundee in Scotland.

After Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas suffered injuries, Beck—who had been playing well at Dundee—was brought back to Liverpool, where he made his Premier League debut in the team’s 4-0 victory over Bournemouth. According to FIFA regulations, he was not allowed to play for a third team this season after making appearances for Dundee and Liverpool.

After the first half of the season that we both experienced together, I am more than happy to be back, Beck remarked. At this point, I’m eager to perform in front of the crowd once more.

“I am ecstatic to be back. I would want to express my gratitude to the Dundee supporters for their unwavering support over the first half of the season. Even after you learned that I had been recalled, you showed incredible love. Now that I’m back, let’s get back to work.

Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark is expected to be involved against Leicester City in the EFL Cup next week.

A report from the Liverpool Echo shared more details after the club’s Under-21s faced Morecambe in the EFL Trophy.

Barry Lewtas’ side won 3-0 against the mid-table League Two side.

Mateusz Musialowski, Calum Scanlon and Bobby Clark all scored before half-time in a comfortable game for the Reds.

It was an impressive performance from a group of youngsters for whom Liverpool have high expectations.
16-year-old central defender Carter Pinnington received high praise from his coach after the match, while several players from the squad have been involved with the first team in recent times.

Scanlon, Clark and James McConnell all had opportunities under Jurgen Klopp in pre-season.

Clark is now expected to be part of Liverpool’s EFL Cup squad next week, in a tribute to his excellent form in recent months.

He has already impressed in the competition and even had the chance to shine in the Champions League last season.

Clark scored a deflected try on Tuesday night and the report states that “the expectation now is that he will be involved in the League Cup”.
The “incredible” midfielder undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him.

He had plenty of opportunities in pre-season and scored against cup opponents Leicester City the next week.

The 18-year-old has already scored four goals in three games from midfield, which will make Klopp aware of his achievements.

However, Clark faces serious competition for a spot on the team from several other young players.

He hopes to replicate Stefan Bajcetic’s rise to the first team, but faces a tougher task in the eight-man role.
In addition to current starters Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and newcomer Ryan Gravenberch are also battling for minutes.

Clark is due to try his luck in the cup when Liverpool play next week.

Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark is on the verge of signing a new long-term deal at Anfield before going on loan

Derby County are waiting for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to approve their loan offer for youngster Bobby Clark – with the midfielder set to sign a new five-year deal before temporarily leaving Anfield.

The 18-year-old was part of Liverpool’s squad for their summer tour of Germany and Singapore but returned to the Under-21 squad for the start of the Premier League 2 season, putting in an impressive individual performance. during their 4-0 win over Everton earlier this month.

Since that August 14 appearance, Clark has been absent from the Under-21s’ last two appearances. He instead made part of Liverpool’s touring squad for Sunday’s outing at St James’ Park. However, Clark was not on the bench as the 21st man in the 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

However, ECHO have now learned that League One side Derby County are close to securing Clark’s services for the 2023/24 season. It is understood there have been talks of a season-long loan with the option of a recall clause in January, as well as the possibility of an initial four-month deal until early 2024.

Having signed his first professional term at the club in February 2022, Clark is set to sign a new five-year deal with the Reds before sealing a loan move before Friday’s deadline.

The midfielder has been the subject of interest from Championship clubs this summer. However, it was felt that these offers may not be the right choice for a player looking to follow in the recent footsteps of Jarell Quansah and Tyler Morton and divert attention away from Anfield.

Although Jurgen Klopp said Thiago would be back in full training ahead of Aston Villa’s visit, the midfielder went missing again on Wednesday.

Thiago underwent surgery to correct a long-standing hip injury towards the end of last season and three months later he is still not fully recovered.

The 32-year-old has attended several sessions at the AXA Training Center but is no ordinary player in first-team training in his current form.

Ahead of the 2-1 win over Newcastle, Klopp picked up the plan for both Thiago and Curtis Jones to rejoin the squad in preparation for their upcoming clash with Aston Villa.

But when a 30-man squad stepped up training on Wednesday, there was no sign of the Spanish. Jones was one of those in the lineup, as was Stefan Bajcetic, with nine midfielders involved in the session, including youngsters Bobby Clark and James McConnell.

Fewer central defenders were available. Virgil van Dijk trained but was suspended this weekend, leaving only Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jarell Quansah.

Although Jurgen Klopp said Thiago would be back in full training ahead of Aston Villa's visit, the midfielder went missing again
Other youth players involved included Luke Chambers, Lewis Koumas and goalkeepers Marcelo Pitaluga, Vitezslav Jaros and Fabian Mrozek.

Pitaluga, 20, received praise from Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah for a string of saves during shooting practice.

Thiago was at the AXA Training Center on Wednesday, but he probably followed an individual program because he didn’t catch up with his teammates. Also absent were injured Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley, as well as Nat Phillips, who instead traveled to Glasgow on a short-term loan to Celtic.

Thiago’s ongoing recovery will continue to worry Liverpool staff, although caution should be exercised in any case regarding his reinstatement.

Given the nature of his injury and the need for surgery, Thiago’s long-term fitness could be of serious concern.

However, it is hoped that once the veteran is fit he can put in a consistent performance at Anfield last season ahead of a likely free transfer next summer.

Celta Vigo will be among the interested clubs when his contract expires. Thiago’s father Mazinho admitted this week he would love to see his son come “home”.

Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on 5 young players during preseason. Many Liverpool fans will be hoping to get their first glimpse of the impact the club’s new signings can make as preseason for the club begins in earnest.

Jurgen Klopp will be interested in seeing what Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai can bring to the table this season, but he will also be eager to keep an eye on a number of players who do not have a high price tag attached to them.

If the Reds’ season goes according to plan, they will play enough games in all competitions to significantly tax the biggest teams, even with new additions.

The club’s young players may be able to help in this situation by playing in domestic cup competitions and the Europa League to lighten the load of their more experienced teammates.

Here, we highlight five academy standouts who stand the best chance of using the preseason to position themselves for such a position this season.

    Ben Doak

Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on 5 young players during preseason. Doak, who was a key member of the first-team squad at the age of just 17 last season, will look to improve once more this time around in order to secure more senior appearances.

The teen quickly won fans over during his five appearances in 2022–2023 thanks to his direct running style, close control, and fearlessness.

Perhaps because Szoboszlai has experience playing on the wing, there is now more competition for spots in the attack as a result of this information.

Doak, however, has high expectations from Liverpool, and should he develop as anticipated, he will undoubtedly be competing for more playing time regardless.

    Jarell Quansah
Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on 5 young players during preseason.

The ease with which Quansah adapted to that task last season bodes incredibly well for his future because League One is an unforgiving environment for any 20-year-old centre-back to try and learn their trade.

During a half-season stint with Bristol Rovers last season, the defender from Warrington quickly became a fan favorite and now returns to Merseyside with a wealth of new knowledge.

Naturally, not everything went well; Gas manager Joey Barton noted the youngster’s career-defining moment as receiving a last-second red card against Portsmouth.

But by the time Quansah’s loan period was over, his manager had no doubt that he would apply what he had learned and succeed all the way to the top.

    Bobby Clark

Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on 5 young players during preseason.
During the last season’s break for the World Cup, Clark provided the ideal illustration of how to use any brief time with the senior team to catch the manager’s attention.

The former Newcastle academy midfielder participated as the Reds competed in the Dubai Super Cup to get ready for the new season.

And in the win over AC Milan, he contributed a particularly eye-catching assist that was worthy of mention in Klopp’s post-game press conferences.

In order to build on the two first-team appearances he earned in 2022–23, Clark will aim to repeat the same performance in the upcoming friendlies.

    Marcelo Pitaluga

Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on 5 young players during preseason.
Liverpool might not need to search the market for a replacement homegrown goalkeeper if Caoimhin Kelleher eventually leaves Anfield this summer.

For the 2024–25 season, Pitaluga, who joined the Reds from Fluminense in 2020, will be considered when determining eligibility.

Of course, the most crucial factor is whether or not the Brazilian is prepared after an injury severely limited his opportunity to experience first-team football while on loan at Macclesfield last season.

However, he will be eager to do everything in his power in the upcoming weeks to convince Klopp that he ought to be the next cab off the rank in the event that Kelleher leaves.

    Lewis Koumas

Jurgen Klopp will be keeping a close eye on 5 young players during preseason.
Koumas’ success scoring goals at the U18 level last season has earned him some early participation in the senior team’s preseason this year.

In the coming weeks, the talented teen, who in January signed his first professional contract, will look to demonstrate that he can advance to first-team standards.

Although Koumas’ small stature may work against him in terms of playing a significant role next season, his versatility on the frontline won’t hurt his chances.

And even though he isn’t quite ready to move to the senior side just yet, this summer will be a crucial learning experience.
