During the March international break, Jurgen Klopp may have been tempted to employ a classic Alex Ferguson strategy, but the Liverpool manager has apparently refrained for the time being.

In recent days, the major guns of the Premier League have begun to fall out one by one like flies.

It’s also possible that the sudden withdrawal of so many of the key players—those who will have a significant influence on the outcome of the game—from international service is not surprising.

The Belgium star, Kevin De Bruyne, will not play for his country in the next week or so due to his absence from Manchester City’s FA Cup victory over Newcastle United last week. Erling Haaland, on the other hand, is now the latest uncertainty for Norway following his withdrawal from training earlier this week.

As a result of Bukayo Saka’s suspension at Arsenal, he will not play for England in the forthcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium for Gareth Southgate’s team.

“Bukayo Saka has left the England camp and returned to his club for continued rehabilitation,” according to a statement from the FA. “The forward for Arsenal arrived at St. George’s Park injured and hasn’t been allowed to take part in practise. A 25-man England squad is currently practicing for the next internationals against Brazil and Belgium; no more substitutions are anticipated.”

Darwin Nunez, who was injured in the 4-3 loss to Manchester United, has stayed on Merseyside at Liverpool. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, two more players who were injured in the FA Cup loss at Old Trafford, have reported for duty with Colombia and the Netherlands, respectively.

During this crucial period of the season, managers are naturally worried about their main players playing in international friendlies that don’t hold much significance for the general public.

But when it comes to the vital components of a Premier League match, Pep Guardiola, Mike Arteta, and Jurgen Klopp may all be erring on the side of caution when they withdraw important players.

During the March international break, Jurgen Klopp may have been tempted to employ a classic Alex Ferguson strategy, but the Liverpool

“This March [international break] is something I’m kind of attached to,” Gary Neville said on his Stick to Football podcast this week. “Alex Ferguson, the manager, would pull players out at this point. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, it will be interesting to see how many players from Arsenal, City, and Liverpool are removed. Haaland and De Bruyne have already left.

“We were aiming for the triple crown in the 1998–1999 season, and Beckham, Scholes, and I were excluded from England matches for the March internationals. Ferguson used to go with Wes Brown and Nicky Butt, and Phil (Neville) used to go with them. “You three out, you three go [on duty],” he declared.

“He detested the international break in March. He truly detested it, I mean that. In general, September, October, and November should be trouble-free assuming it was a legitimate qualifier. However, if the games in March were friendly, he wouldn’t have it.

“He would assert that our season is not being affected in any manner. And at that point in the season, you understood it. Being in the middle of a title run-in, I think this meeting is incredibly ill-timed.

“He would assert that our season is not being affected in any manner. And at that point in the season, you understood it. Being in the middle of a title run-in, I think this meeting is incredibly ill-timed. Move it to the beginning of August, December, or whatever.

“Ferguson would have made a deal with the foreign management at that point. You can have them in the summer, but not right now. We have a treble up for grabs. I will guess that Declan Rice, Saka, or Phil Foden will withdraw from the second game; I have a strong feeling about it.”

Neville’s forecast has proven to be spot-on in Saka’s instance, and while traditionalists may snipe, cynics will point out that Arteta and Saka might well be taking necessary steps to keep their title charge moving forward—even if there’s no sign that the ailment is being faked.

Apart from Nunez, who needs to complete a personalised training regimen to be ready for Brighton’s March 31 visit, Liverpool needed to ask Egypt for special permission so that Mohamed Salah could skip the forthcoming internationals.

Since the Reds flew Salah back from Ivory Coast to recover on Merseyside during the Africa Cup of Nations, it has been believed that the club’s relationship with Egypt has become strained. Senior officials at the AXA Centre may have been reluctant to exacerbate the situation further.

At the end of February, Liverpool wrote to the Egypt Football Association to ask that Salah—who was then sidelined due to a hamstring injury—not play in their forthcoming match against New Zealand. It took a long time to be approved, but in the end, the Reds’ top scorer was given what may turn out to be a vital break before a big run-in.

During the March international break, Jurgen Klopp may have been tempted to employ a classic Alex Ferguson strategy, but the Liverpool

However, in Ibrahima Konate’s situation, Klopp has not been so fortunate. After hobbling out of the 5-1 thumping of Sparta Prague on March 7, the center-back has missed the following three games but appears to be back in the frame of mind to play for France after being called up by Didier Deschamps.

The same pessimists would have wondered if Liverpool could have relied on the defence to skip the forthcoming friendly against Chile and Germany, but Klopp has never been one to follow Ferguson’s lead all those years ago.

Because of the Reds’ exceptional injury luck this season, Klopp may feel compelled to attempt, if not outright adopt, a Ferguson-style strategy for international clearances. However, it appears that the Liverpool manager is not obstructing anyone’s path for the time being.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka has disclosed that his team’s 1-0 victory over Brentford was motivated by Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Trent Alexander-Arnold gave the Reds a point at the Etihad Stadium with a goal ten minutes remaining in normal time in a match that resumed Premier League action after the international break.

With the outcome, Jurgen Klopp’s team trailed City by one point heading into Saturday’s later kickoffs. But after Kai Havertz’s header in the 89th minute gave Arsenal the hard-fought victory at Brentford, they dropped from second to third.

Speaking to Football, the Gunners currently occupy the top spot in the table, one point ahead of City and two ahead of Liverpool.Saka stated in the pre-game team discussion that the outcome of the early kickoff proved to be an additional impetus for London.

The England winger responded, “Yeah, and what a game by the way,” when asked if he witnessed the match at Etihad Stadium. “I saw that game; it was incredibly well done, and we were happy with the draw, of course.

“We all knew, and the boys mentioned it during the team meeting, that we had the opportunity to win the league, so we seized it. So, we’re content.”

After overcoming a 2-1 deficit to secure a crucial victory away at Tottenham Hotspur, who were fourth early in the day, Aston Villa is now tied for fourth place with the Reds.

The Premier League’s next team to visit Anfield is Fulham. The Liverpool medical staff and manager Jurgen Klopp will be keenly awaiting any updates regarding Alisson Becker and Diogo Jota, who sustained injuries against City.

The Reds’ first game of the week is a Thursday home Europa League matchup against LASK.

Liverpool has set their sights on Sao Paulo’s Lucas Beraldo, a young player, as they attempt to bolster their defence.

Brazil has great expectations for the 20-year-old, and he might end up being a valuable long-term addition to the Premier League team.

It’s no secret that Liverpool needs defence reinforcements, and the 20-year-old Joel Matip replacement may be the best option in the long run. Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are the team’s only other trustworthy central defenders at the moment.

According to a UOL report, Liverpool is the front-runners to sign the 20-year-old defender, but it’s unclear if they can finalise a deal. It will be tempting for the gifted young defender to sign with a major team like Liverpool, but it is unclear if the Premier League team can work out a deal with Sao Paulo.

In addition to playing left-sided central defence, Beraldo can also play right-sided central defence. Additionally, his versatility allows him to play as a defensive midfielder.

Liverpool may have made a smart investment in the 20-year-old if they can work out a fair deal with the Brazilian team for him. The defender might be a valuable long-term asset for Liverpool if he can continue to grow into a top-tier Premier League player

Given the two transfer concerns that have emerged, Liverpool may opt to replace Mohamed Salah with Kylian Mbappe or Bukayo Saka.

Given the two transfer concerns that have emerged, Liverpool may opt to replace Mohamed Salah with Kylian Mbappe or Bukayo Saka.

Contributors from Liverpool FC at The ECHO evaluate how Mohamed Salah might be successfully replaced by the Reds.

“Two significant issues for Liverpool to think about.”.

When it comes to properly replacing Mohamed Salah in this squad, Paul Gorst says Liverpool has two significant issues to take into account.

First off, as one of the best players in the world, there aren’t many who can do for the Reds what the Egyptian international does, and the fact that he’s the club’s top scorer during the Premier League era and ranks fifth all-time speaks to that fact.

Any team would have a very difficult time finding another player who could produce the same results.

The star of Paris Saint-Germain Kylian Mbappe is arguably the only player who could legitimately describe himself as an effective replacement. And that’s before we consider the fact that Salah is positioned on the left rather than the right, where the France international operates most of the time.

Interestingly, according to the scouting tool Fbref, the two players most “similar” to Salah are Donyell Malen of Borussia Dortmund and Moussa Diaby of Aston Villa, neither of whom would be out of the Reds’ reach.
The issue is whether they can fill Salah’s goal-scoring gap.

While Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli was one of the best in all of Europe last season as he led the Italians to the Serie A title, Kaoru Mitoma of Brighton is a young wideman of real Premier League class.

Although both players would be thrilling additions that would keep fans on the edge of their seats, their numbers are overwhelmingly outnumbered by Salah’s, and they are both most effective when playing on the left.

While there are undoubtedly some exciting young wingers in the world of football, the Reds are unlikely to find a like-for-like replacement.
As a result, they could consider using the funds received for Salah to bolster the team in a similar manner to how the 2018 acquisitions of Fabinho, Alisson Becker, and Virgil van Dijk lessened the impact of Philippe Coutinho’s departure.

In addition to Salah, the Reds already have four other players in their forward line, so if they add more players up top, there is a chance those players won’t see as much action as they would like.

What exactly does Liverpool do in this situation—try to match up as closely as possible, or do they buy talent and spend the remaining money elsewhere?

There is a small pool of top-tier right-sided wingers on the market. Bukayo Saka’s transfer from Arsenal would be a risky move, but the Gunners would not consider it.
For the club’s recruitment department, a Salah-less Liverpool is a major headache.

Liverpool may not even bother trying, according to this statement.

No athlete is irreplaceable, says Ian Doyle. The truth is that most clubs would have dissolved into nothing if it weren’t for their inability to carry on after the loss of a key player.

However, some players are harder to replace than others, and Mohamed Salah undoubtedly belongs to that group.
And it’s possible Liverpool doesn’t even try.

Over the past six years, a large portion of the Reds’ attacking play has focused on getting the best possible performance out of Salah.
That explains how the Egyptian, a left-footed right winger, has been able to score so many goals and why he keeps coming close to breaking more long-standing club records.

With another player, it would be very challenging to duplicate that effect.
Thus, the Reds may be best served by readjusting their forward strategy in light of Salah’s departure, which will likely occur sooner rather than later and may even happen as early as next summer given Saudi Arabia’s anticipated return.

Although the young right-wingers Ben Doak and the thankfully recovered Kaide Gordon are highly regarded, they are still in the early stages of their careers and have much to learn.
With Salah gone, Liverpool now has access to what is likely to be a large sum of money; the very least they can do is hound Arsenal for Bukayo Saka.

The hiring team will have someone else in mind if the England player is unavailable. There is always.

Given the two transfer concerns that have emerged, Liverpool may opt to replace Mohamed Salah with Kylian Mbappe or Bukayo Saka.

The first athlete that comes to mind is Kylian Mbappe.

Theo Squires: When Liverpool acquired Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo, they accomplished what once seemed impossible.
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp once had an unbeatable front three, but the Reds’ most recent January additions have made a seamless transition in place of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

The most challenging assignment will fall to the club’s upcoming attacking addition.
Mohamed Salah may eventually move to Saudi Arabia, so Liverpool may need to find a replacement for the Egyptian player within the next 12 months.
It is an unpleasant task for the club as well as any potential successor.

The first celebrity to mind is Kylian Mbappe.
Although the best player in the world in waiting would be a lethal replacement for Liverpool’s Egyptian King, he may not be a natural like-for-like replacement as an inverted forward because he is not left-footed.

But in reality, his salary would be too high for the Reds to afford.
I’ll turn to North London instead.
He would be the ideal replacement if you could entice Bukayo Saka away from Arsenal.

The Gunners’ inverted forward, who is only 22 years old, is still doing well and contributing more goals and assists than is fair.
Of course, it would be difficult to persuade Arsenal to sell after they helped propel them back into the Champions League by challenging for the Premier League title last year. Liverpool should be at the door this year if there is any slip-up.

Dejan Kulusevski, who plays for Tottenham, also has a good look.
The Swedish international, who is still only 23 years old, has been fantastic for Spurs over the past 18 months, but he lacks Salah, Mbappe, or even Saka’s level of goal threat.
However, you might not even need him to be there given that Darwin Nunez appears to be waking up as the Reds adjust.

“Rodrygo from Real Madrid is an exciting option.”.

Lewis Underwood: Mohamed Salah’s future may be crucial to the success of Liverpool’s squad rebuild, but it won’t be simple.

How to make sure Salah’s successor can match his prolific goal threat is perhaps the most crucial question Liverpool must ask itself when searching for a replacement for Salah.
Only a select few players come to mind when searching throughout Europe for one who meets the criteria.

Without mentioning Kylian Mbappe, who scored an impressive 29 goals for PSG in Ligue 1 last season, it is impossible to talk about a replacement for Salah. Mbappe would, however, bring a lot of media attention, which might cause issues for Klopp and his group.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is a different player who potentially possesses the skills to fill the Salah-shaped void in this Liverpool team. Despite not being as skilled in front of goal as the Egyptian at this point in his career, Saka had his best season to date last season, scoring 25 goals and dishing out 25 assists in the Premier League and being a key component of Arsenal’s surprise title challenge.

With that said, it seems extremely unlikely that the Gunners would even consider letting the player they fondly refer to as their “starboy” leave, much less to a direct rival.

The Serie A champions Napoli have an intriguing option in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
Kvaratskhelia, who was acquired from the Russian club Rubin Kazan, proved to be a gem in the rough.
Together with Victor Osimhen, he led Napoli to their first Serie A championship in more than 30 years.

Although the Georgian would undoubtedly be an exciting addition to Klopp’s team, the winger was primarily used on the left side of Napoli’s attack and as such would have to adapt to the right, where Salah plays.
Real Madrid’s top attacker, Rodrygo, has the advantage of playing on the right side for the Spanish powerhouses.

Rodrygo, who is only 22 years old, has time on his side and has already begun to demonstrate his talent by scoring 17 goals and dishing out 25 assists in La Liga during the previous season.
The winger may develop into a star.

The Brazilian unfortunately falls short of Salah’s numbers, as has been a recurring theme on this list, though his age and potential may be more significant factors for Liverpool’s hiring team. Salah will be difficult to replace, that much is certain.

Trent Alexander-Arnold collected the number 10 shirt for England against North Macedonia

Bukayo Saka could have won the match point for his hat-trick against North Macedonia at Old Trafford on Monday night, but Liverpool defender and midfielder Trent Alexander-Arnold impressed again during this recent international break.

Even having shone in his new hybrid role at Anfield and beyond, it was shocking to see his name alongside the No.10 shirt on England’s squad list ahead of beating Malta on Friday night. It was hardly a surprise, however, that in 180 minutes he made his mark again.

Alexander-Arnold, in an even more advanced position than his recent move to Liverpool, was among Valletta’s star performers and just over 72 hours later the club’s academy graduate was back with another performance composed and elegant in the engine room.

It was enough to make Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and even former Chelsea captain John Terry purr as they watched the current squad routinely knock out admittedly limited opponents. Although these three could still read between the lines, Alexander-Arnold successfully played between them.

After seven goals ahead of him, Alexander-Arnold underlined what he has to offer with an assist that helped Saka earn a hat-trick. Queue up the high-level response on social media.

No sooner had the goal come – England’s fourth of the night – than Liverpool hero Carragher tweeted: “Trent v Saka will be one hell of a combination.” Terry followed with his endorsement on the same platform.

In Saka Chat, Channel 4’s team of respected pundits also discussed before the match what Alexander-Arnold can offer his club and country in central midfield, as Gerrard himself took off his suit to appear at Old Trafford on Monday night.

He said: ‘When you play in matches against Malta and you play against another team [North Macedonia] who play with a compact block, Trent [Alexander-Arnold] is someone who can open the door at any moment because he has such a range good of passages.

“I think he has a lot of trust and confidence from Jurgen Klopp in this role and it’s very interesting to see that Gareth [Southgate] has given him a chance. But what Trent has done is he’s gone and I thought it was man of the match Friday night.

“He played with confidence and that defensive responsibility was taken away from him because he was under pressure and there was a lot of attention for him in that role.”

Alexander-Arnold would not be declared man of the match against North Macedonia on Monday night. After being ignored by England for so long, he could be their man of the hour.

Four transfers completed, Darwin Núñez unlocked – This is what Liverpool’s summer is like for Jürgen Klopp

Four transfers completed, Darwin Núñez unlocked - This is what Liverpool's summer is like for Jürgen KloppLiverpool still have a lot of work to do in the transfer market, but Jürgen Klopp also needs to work on improving the players he already has, including Darwin Núñez.

While there is a certain transfer obsession in some circles, Liverpool also have other things to consider this summer, particularly how to get the most out of the players Jurgen Klopp already has.

Liverpool’s squad quality – and depth, particularly in midfield – needs to be addressed, but there’s also a good chance, with a seldom rich and long pre-season, that improvements can be made to those already at the club.

Summer offers the perfect platform to integrate Alexis Mac Allister and the other new signings to come in due course, and the period will also be important for players like Darwin Núñez to take the next steps and become even more familiar with the system.

There’s also a question of what happens as the lineup progresses, with Trent Alexander-Arnold doing very well in a hybrid role behind the previous campaign. What is the ideal summer like if Liverpool can solve all these problems and mount a serious title fight in the Premier League? We took a look.

    Three more transfers

In an ideal world there is no doubt that Liverpool would need a few more midfielders and then a defender as well. Name-wise, Khéphren Thuram is in the Reds squad, while a move for Nicolò Barella should be explored if there is any chance of the Italian Champions League finalist leaving Inter Milan.

Defensively, Micky van de Ven is clearly open to a move to Anfield, having recently spoken openly on the subject, but there are other top-level centre-backs who can play on the left and should be considered.

With Caoimhín Kelleher remaining, there is no reason to change the goalkeeping department, when even after Roberto Firmino’s departure, Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon should be able to step in if necessary with five veteran strikers to choose from ahead of them.

    Darwin Núñez unlocked

One element of Liverpool’s restart this summer must be new signings, but some existing players must also take the next step.

One of them is certainly Núñez, who scored 15 goals in his first season. With a functioning midfield behind him and less pressure on his shoulders, plus Luis Díaz and Diogo Jota, he should be able to continue.

With a change of squad number he could be Liverpool’s number nine, but the challenge is to ensure he is a regular on the pitch despite competition from many players, including Cody Gakpo.

The Europa League could really help him build more confidence, and with his former clubs there is evidence that it takes him a while to get used to life at a new club before he really blows through his second full year.

Others to take the next step

Núñez won’t be the only one who wants to kick. Gakpo is also a player who has had some time to settle in and now has to prove that he can score regularly and that he’s not just the forward striker.

In midfield, Curtis Jones will hope to pick up where he left off (and his injuries are over) and players like Harvey Elliott and Stefan Bajčetić can also make progress again.

Aside from younger players, it’s a challenge for older men like Alisson Becker and Mohamed Salah to maintain their level; for most of the rest of the Liverpool squad, it’s more about rediscovering previous levels, including Fabinho and Díaz who fall into that category for different reasons.

Put it all right – and there’s no reason Liverpool can’t – and Klopp’s men will be back where they want to be in no time, and last season’s poor showing can be put to one side.
