Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz, who is now shining for Germany at Euro 2024, has been linked with a move to Liverpool after winning the Bundesliga title.

The Arne Slot era at Liverpool is gradually taking shape.

The Premier League announced the full fixture calendar for the 2024-25 season on Tuesday, with Slot’s first game in command coming against newly promoted Ipswich Town. However, the Dutchman must prioritise preseason recruitment.

The summer transfer window has been officially open for five days, and while Liverpool isn’t expected to make any big additions, the Reds are set to make their first signing since Jurgen Klopp departed the club. Klopp might be followed by a number of players, with one star’s price already decided.

Here’s a roundup of the most recent Anfield transfer news.

Wirtz’s father rules out a relocation.

Liverpool Transfer News: The first summer signing is imminent, amid Florian Wirtz's remark.

Florian Wirtz’s father has declared that the Germany international will not leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, despite reports of a move to Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. Wirtz, 21, was one of several star players as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title last season, earning a ticket in the Champions League.

The explosive playmaker scored in Germany’s opening Euro 2024 game on Friday, raising his profile, but he will not be shifting clubs this summer. “Florian has a contract in Leverkusen,” Hans Wirtz told Bild. “And he’s looking forward to his first Champions League appearance with Bayer Leverkusen next year. “These are the facts. The spotlight has now shifted to the Euros.

There will be a lot to do with the team next season, so there is no need for speculation. There’s really nothing else to say.”

Liverpool set £25 million Kelleher’s price tag.

Liverpool Transfer News: The first summer signing is imminent, amid Florian Wirtz's remark.

Liverpool has signed Caoimhin Kelleher, their second-choice custodian, for £25 million. The 25-year-old Irishman is eager to start playing first-team football and was linked with a move away from Anfield last summer.

According to the Athletic, Celtic are interested in Kelleher, but the Scottish champions, who are looking to replace Joe Hart, may find him too expensive. According to Mirror Football, Feyenoord custodian Justin Bijlow, who is also a target for Arsenal, may reunite with Arne Slot and push Alisson Becker for the number one shirt instead of Kelleher.

Liverpool are on the verge of signing 16-year-old Alvin Ayman from Wolves, their first signing under Arne Slot’s management. Ayman is primarily a defender who joined Wolves’ under-18 side last season before making two Premier League 2 appearances for the under-21 level.

According to the ECHO, Liverpool is close to finalising the deal to strengthen its academy setup, with Ayman regarded as one of the country’s most promising young players. Notably, the highly rated prospect played in Wolves’ 4-2 Premier League North victory over Liverpool in April.

    Liverpool's Goalkeeping Conundrum: A Post-Kelleher Era Review

As the summer transfer market begins, Liverpool finds itself in a difficult scenario due to the likely departure of their second-choice custodian, Caoimhin Kelleher. According to The Liverpool Echo, the Republic of Ireland international is mulling a move in search of more regular first-team experience, paving the way for big changes among the Reds’ goalkeepers.

    KELLEHER’S departure and contribution

Caoimhin Kelleher, who has been instrumental in filling in for Alisson during injuries and rotations, appears set to step out of the shadows. “Kelleher stepped in and made ten Premier League appearances when Alisson was not available, while playing in each of their six Carabao Cup matches including the final as they beat Chelsea to lift the trophy at Wembley,” according to The Liverpool Echo. This season could be his last at Anfield, as he hopes to become a first-choice custodian abroad, with Celtic and Brentford allegedly interested.

Liverpool’s looking for a New Number Two

With Kelleher potentially leaving, Liverpool’s management under Arne Slot must find a good successor to complement Alisson. In order to maintain Adrian, the club has already offered him a new one-year contract, and new contracts have also been provided to other squad goalkeepers such as Jacob Poytress and Reece Truema. However, Anthony Patterson of Sunderland appears to be the primary target for filling the looming vacuum.

    Liverpool's Goalkeeping Conundrum: A Post-Kelleher Era Review

“Patterson has a wealth of EFL experience under his belt since coming through the ranks at the Black Cats, missing just one Championship game over the course of the last two years,” according to The Liverpool Echo. Patterson, at 24 years old, combines youth with the potential for improvement, making him a perfect prospect to challenge and even overtake Alisson in the future.

    Exermining possible goalkeeper signings

Besides Patterson, Liverpool has been linked with numerous other goalkeepers, including Justin Bijlow, James Trafford, and Filip Jorgensen. Each has unique talents and potential, but Patterson’s combination of age and affordability—valued at about £10.9 million—makes him a very appealing option for the Reds.

    Liverpool Strategic Implications

The loss of a player like Kelleher, who is worth roughly £15 million, poses both a task and a chance for Liverpool. The problem is to appropriately replace him without disturbing the team’s current chemistry; the opportunity is to uncover a future star who could succeed Alisson. It’s a delicate balance that Slot and his team must strike carefully to keep the goalkeeping transition from becoming a weak link in an otherwise strong group.

As Liverpool navigates this shift, the decisions made this summer might have far-reaching consequences for the club’s future performances in both domestic leagues and European competitions. The ability to effectively scout, sign and integrate a new custodian will be vital as they prepare for another season of competing for the top honours.

A star from Arsenal is expected to surprisely join Liverpool—”there’s an opportunity”

    Aaron Ramsdale

Liverpool is urged to recruit an Arsenal goalkeeper as a potential successor for second custodian Caoimhin Kelleher, who could leave the team this summer.

It has been suggested that Liverpool should make a surprise approach for Aaron Ramsdale, the goalkeeper for Arsenal, as the club may need to recruit a new custodian this summer.

This summer, Liverpool is probably going to make a few moves in the transfer market, but goalkeepers aren’t at the top of the new sporting director Richard Hughes’ and coach Arne Slot’s priority lists. Alisson Becker is still the team’s top player and isn’t expected to be traded this summer, despite rumours that the Saudi Pro League may be interested in signing him.

Caoimhin Kelleher, the club’s number two, might have an issue. Since graduating into the first team squad in 2019, the Irishman has been Alisson’s secondary player, and it’s acknowledged that Kelleher is too good to be a number two at this point in his career.

When Alisson was sidelined for several months due to an injury last season, Kelleher, who is now 25 years old, had his first taste of playing regularly for Liverpool. Kelleher finished the season with 26 points across all competitions, with 10 starts in the league.

If Kelleher decides to leave Anfield this summer, according to former Leeds and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, Liverpool should consider after Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. After making just six Premier League appearances the previous season, Ramsdale lost his spot in the starting lineup to David Raya.

“Kelleher has the chance to go and be a number one with Alisson if he leaves Liverpool.

“Considering how many games Kelleher has played this year in comparison to Ramsdale, there’s a chance for him to get more playing time and establish himself.

“Aaron Ramsdale needs to play and get somewhere.” At Arsenal, he’s received tough treatment. I believe that [Mikel] Arteta handled the matter incorrectly.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal in 2021 and spent his first two seasons as the team’s indisputable number one. However, given that Alisson isn’t slowing down, it’s unclear if he could unseat the Brazilian for the top slot.

After travelling with the Republic of Ireland, Kelleher gave a press conference where he said, “I’m at that stage in my career where I need to make that next step and play week in and week out so I think that’s all it was, really, a reflection on the season and my ambitions going forward.” The goal now is to play regular first team football.

According to Liverpool.com, Ramsdale is currently ranked second at Arsenal, but he would be in the same position if he joined Liverpool. Kelleher may also leave Anfield because Alisson is the best player there and won’t be replaced.

Caoimhin Kelleher acknowledges that he may depart from Liverpool with "big ambition."

Jurgen Klopp has given Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher a hearty recommendation as he enters the next phase of his career.

The 25-year-old, who filled in for Alisson Becker during his most successful season to date, has acknowledged that he might need to leave Liverpool in order to pursue his dream of playing regularly in the top division.

With Klopp’s final remarks after his tenure on Merseyside came to an end, he will continue to conduct business, regardless of whether his future at Anfield under new manager Arne Slot is attained or not.

When asked what guidance the German had given him, Kelleher replied, “He had some nice words for me.”

“You became a brilliant goalkeeper  in that time,” he observed to me after I worked with him for a lot of years. No matter where I go in my job, he will follow me. He wants to be pleased and watch me play.

When 31-year-old Brazil international Alisson was injured in February, Klopp had little hesitation in turning to Kelleher, who had done so brilliantly for him in the past – especially in the Carabao Cup, which produced another winners’ medal last season.

The Irishman stood in for 14 straight games, demonstrating his ability to be a number one and drawing even more attention to his future. He will hopefully be selected for his nation’s friendlies against Hungary and Portugal in the coming week or two.

However, the South American was made whole upon his return to fitness, and although his backup plans to overthrow him as Slot gets ready for his first campaign in charge, he is realistic enough to understand that he might have to relocate in order to pursue his goals.

Caoimhin Kelleher acknowledges that he may depart from Liverpool with "big ambition."Kelleher stated: “The season I’ve had, I’ve played a lot of games and had that taste this season of being a number one.” Kelleher was the target of a January move from Nottingham Forest and has since been linked with Celtic.

It’s unclear if that will happen at Liverpool or somewhere else. Right now, my primary goal is to be the best.

Needless to say, I enjoy representing Ireland. Being the best here is one of my biggest goals, but that obviously only works if I’m the best at the club as well.

“That also plays a significant role in supporting my claim to be the best in Ireland.”

Kelleher will start the new season with confidence in his ability to play at the greatest level, no matter where the summer leads him.

“I don’t think there was any internal doubt from myself,” he declared. Anyone at Liverpool, I believe, would feel the same way. It was more about me having the chance to show everyone else that I’m capable of playing at this level.

“I think that was the main goal, to prove to everyone else, and I was always waiting for that chance to get a run of games.”

“I’ve always thought I’m good enough, but it was important to prove to everyone else that I can play at this level.”

“My main ambition is to be a No.1, and it would be great if that happened at Liverpool, but I’m not silly,” he stated to The Athletic. I am aware that Ali has long since established himself as the world’s finest goalie.

“I do believe that becoming a No. 1 is the next step for me, whether it’s here at Liverpool or someplace else. I’ve had a great time at Liverpool, and maybe I’ll be here for more.

However, I believe my time as a No. 2 is over.” Following Kelleher’s transfer admission, Liverpool.com has examined the Republic of Ireland international’s possible successors in the event that his departure is verified.

    Bijlow Justin

This summer, Liverpool might search for a new goalkeeper following Caoimhín Kelleher's admission that his future might be elsewhere. During Alisson Becker's injury absence, Kelleher performed admirably and made more first-team appearances than in any previous season at Anfield. However, Kelleher returned to a supporting role after the Brazilian regained fitness, and he says he is ready to take the starting position going forward. This summer, the 25-year-old intends to speak with Arne Slot about his future.

It has been predicted that Justin Bijlow, the goalkeeper for Feyenoord, will follow Arne Slot to Anfield this summer. According to The Mirror, Liverpool is also interested in signing him, but Arsenal has set him as a $13 million (£10 million/€12 million) goal.

Over the past three seasons, Bijlow has worked closely with Slot and indicated that he would be interested in moving to the Premier League. “Will I stay at Feyenoord?” he asked Voetbalzone. I mean, you never know. Football is like that; you never know.

“I’m open to it if the chance arises and a decent club comes from overseas. Naturally, it’s wonderful to be acknowledged at prestigious clubs.”

    Alex McCarthy

This summer, Liverpool might search for a new goalkeeper following Caoimhín Kelleher's admission that his future might be elsewhere. During Alisson Becker's injury absence, Kelleher performed admirably and made more first-team appearances than in any previous season at Anfield. However, Kelleher returned to a supporting role after the Brazilian regained fitness, and he says he is ready to take the starting position going forward. This summer, the 25-year-old intends to speak with Arne Slot about his future.

Several teams are reportedly keeping an eye on former England stopper Alex McCarthy, including Liverpool. The 34-year-old, whose contract expires this summer, assisted Southampton in winning promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

The Daily Mail claims that Newcastle and Celtic are also considering him, but Southampton is organising negotiations to cling onto him. McCarthy has played in the Premier League, but at this point in his career, he might want to stay at the top, and that won’t happen at Anfield.

Following Southampton’s victory over Leeds at Wembley to secure promotion, manager Russell Martin of Southampton intends to speak with McCarthy and other players who are not under contract.

    James Trafford

This summer, Liverpool might search for a new goalkeeper following Caoimhín Kelleher's admission that his future might be elsewhere. However, Kelleher returned to a supporting role after the Brazilian regained fitness, and he says he is ready to take the starting position going forward. This summer, the 25-year-old intends to speak with Arne Slot about his future.

Liverpool may try to sign James Trafford this summer in an attempt to take advantage of Burnley’s drop to the Championship. The England Under-21 goalie only made the switch from Manchester City to Turf Moor a year ago.

He was cut from the squad at the end of the season, but he is reportedly eager to get back to the top division. According to Football Insider, Burnley would want for roughly $26 million (£20 million/€24 million) for Trafford during the transfer season.

To replace No. 1 Nick Pope this summer, Newcastle is also interested in signing him, so the Reds will have competition for his services.

    Anthony Patterson

This summer, Liverpool might search for a new goalkeeper following Caoimhín Kelleher's admission that his future might be elsewhere. During Alisson Becker's injury absence, Kelleher performed admirably and made more first-team appearances than in any previous season at Anfield. However, Kelleher returned to a supporting role after the Brazilian regained fitness, and he says he is ready to take the starting position going forward. This summer, the 25-year-old intends to speak with Arne Slot about his future.

Patterson Anthony Anthony Patterson, the custodian for Sunderland, has also been connected to the Reds in recent months. The 23-year-old has shown promise in the Championship, and according to HITC, Liverpool and Arsenal are interested in signing him.

Both clubs are rumoured to have sent scouts to observe Patterson’s growth, and he is expected to cost roughly $15 million (£12 million/€14 million). Though it’s unclear if he would be willing to leave Sunderland, the chance to collaborate with Alisson might be too wonderful to pass up. His present club would love to hang onto him, according to The Sunderland Echo, given that he preserved 10 clean sheets in the second division this season.

    Vítězslav Jaroš

This summer, Liverpool might search for a new goalkeeper following Caoimhín Kelleher's admission that his future might be elsewhere. During Alisson Becker's injury absence, Kelleher performed admirably and made more first-team appearances than in any previous season at Anfield. However, Kelleher returned to a supporting role after the Brazilian regained fitness, and he says he is ready to take the starting position going forward. This summer, the 25-year-old intends to speak with Arne Slot about his future.

Goalkeeper Vítězslav Jaroš may be given the opportunity by Liverpool to make a statement following an outstanding loan stint with Sturm Graz. After relocating to Austria in January, the 22-year-old played in 21 different events.

His efforts enabled Sturm Graz to win the Austrian Bundesliga, and as a result, he was selected for the Czech Republic’s provisional roster for the upcoming European Championships this summer.

Throughout his loan stint, the Reds have kept an eye on his development. Jaroš disclosed that he had frequent correspondence regarding his progress and achievements with John Achterberg, the leaving Liverpool coach.

After an emotional final season with Liverpool, Arne Slot has formally announced that he will succeed Jurgen Klopp. The Reds are about to undergo a lot of upheaval, and there is a lot of conjecture on the players that might join and leave the team during this impending new regime.

As the summer transfer window draws near, we’ve examined Liverpool’s current roster to identify four players who ought to be let go before the new campaign begins, as well as five individuals the Reds should be pushing to sign in order to boost their squad and contend for the championship once more.

    1. Sepp van den Berg (Sell)

    1. Sepp van den Berg

Many people predicted that Van den Berg would become a star at Liverpool, but like many other young players over the years, he has had difficulty breaking into the first squad. He is currently on his third loan stint away from Anfield, and given that Liverpool is actively looking for new centre backs, he doesn’t seem much closer to competing for a spot in the starting lineup.

    2. Calvin Ramsay (sell)

    Calvin Ramsay

Speaking of young players at Anfield, Conor Bradley has performed admirably this year, and with Trent Alexander-Arnold and him at right-back, there is hardly any space for additional competition. Calvin Ramsay will be better off pursuing a move where he will be a starting option because his chances of competing for a regular berth in this Liverpool team are very limited.

    3. Caoimhin Kelleher (sell)

This summer, Liverpool should sign five players and sell four, including Arne Slot's "first wish."

Liverpool would suffer if they were to sell Kelleher, although it is unlikely that they will do so given how well he has performed this season as an Alisson substitute. However, the Reds just aren’t able to give him the starting position he deserves, thus the club ought to give him the chance to be an unquestionable first choice elsewhere.

    4. Nat Phillips.(sell)

This summer, Liverpool should sign five players and sell four, including Arne Slot's "first wish."

When Nat Phillips filled in during Liverpool’s terrible defensive injury crisis in the 2020–21 campaign, he greatly impressed. But since then, he has dropped back down the hierarchy and been leased out three more times.

    More news……

Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal will need to spend more than £50 million on an attacking target.

    Raphinha

Raphinha, a winger for Barcelona, has been linked to Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea for the end of the current campaign.

The three teams have been informed of the 27-year-old winger’s availability and the possibility that he would be moving at the conclusion of the season. Intermediaries have reportedly notified clubs who have expressed interest in signing the Barcelona winger in recent months, according to a TBR football report.

But in summer, the winger will set you around more than £50 million. It is unclear if Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea are willing to pay a premium for him, since Barcelona is hoping to turn a profit on him.

It goes without saying that Arsenal needs to sign a top-tier winger this summer. Raphinha’s arrival will not only provide the team more goals and creativity, but it will also allow Mikel Arteta to rest important players like Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka. They need additional depth in the wide areas.

The South American is also well-versed with the Premier League, having represented Leeds United there. Next season, he might have an immediate effect.

Raphinha might be useful to Liverpool if Mohamed Salah departs.

Given that Mohamed Salah’s time at Anfield is almost up, Liverpool may need to find a capable replacement. If Salah decides not to extend his contract with Liverpool this summer, he will become a free agent in 2025, and Liverpool may face pressure to trade him. Raphinha might work well as a substitute.

It would be intriguing to watch if Chelsea decides to make a bid for the guy in the summer. The Blues have expressed interest in signing the midfielder. Given the lacklustre play of players like Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk this season, it is hardly surprising that the Blues are keeping an eye on wingers.

It will be intriguing to see where the 27-year-old ends up because he might benefit all three clubs.

After Atalanta's crushing of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp must let go of two players from his team.

Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the Europa League were severely damaged when they suffered a terrible 3-0 loss at home against a formidable Atalanta on Thursday night.

On Thursday night, it was the stuff of nightmares for Liverpool at Anfield, but Jurgen Klopp had no complaints.

The formidable Serie A squad Atalanta thoroughly defeated his Reds team 3-0, exposing the weaknesses in a Liverpool team that made six changes from their weekend’s stalemate with Manchester United and lacked the rhythm and poise that we are used to seeing from them.

In his post-match remarks, Klopp was brutally candid, stating: “I wasn’t happy with our tactical placement when we had possession. By passing the ball there, we created a scenario for them in which everyone chased after a different man. We had a poor game, but we did score one offside. With three goals in a strong performance, Atalanta was deserving of the victory.

“A few of tonight’s performances were quite astounding—I had no idea they could play like that. Many of the gamers appeared to be really lonely at various points. It was extremely awful.”

Yes, yeah, oops. However, to whom might Klopp have been alluding when he made that critique? Well, it was easy to find.

The Reds manager made three substitutions at halftime in an attempt to get back into the game. Although Harvey Elliott, who had been sidelined, was unfortunate to have his effort bounce back off the bar and post, and Curtis Jones was still recovering from an injury, Kostas Tsimikas’ performance was unavoidable.

After Atalanta's crushing of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp must let go of two players from his team.

In what was an unusual outing for the Greek, he looked horribly out of shape and fitness and a world apart from the player who had impressively stood in for Andy Robertson for more than two months after the Scot’s dislocated shoulder in October.

Not only did Tsimikas’s display fall short of expectations, but so did Caoimhin Kelleher’s. Naturally, the Irishman has excelled during Alisson’s extended absence, but it’s possible that he overreached in a couple of games.

After Atalanta's crushing of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp must let go of two players from his team.

Fortunately for Klopp, Robertson is catching up with his training and Alisson is going back to full capacity. For the rest of the season, those two must simply return to the starting lineup as the Reds look to reclaim the stability that has entirely failed them thus far.

Klopp was penalised for rotating, but going forward, he will have to start at first choice, maybe with the exception of a second leg against Bergamo that he could now afford to forfeit.

4 things seen as Jürgen Klopp loses his cool despite a stunning performance from Liverpool victory over Sheffield United

With their 2-1 victory over Sheffield United, Liverpool made things considerably harder for themselves and went back to the top of the Premier League. This is what we observed.

ARMOUR GAME, LIVERPOOL Liverpool defeated Sheffield United 3-1 to reclaim the top spot in the Premier League. But the Reds’ encounter with the bottom team in the division was undoubtedly difficult that night.

Liverpool would go on to dominate the game after James McAtee gave them an early fright in the first sixty seconds. Early on, Mohamed Salah came closest when he tried to chip Ivo Grbić, but the goalkeeper for the visitors palmed the ball away.

Moments later, the Croatian did not cover himself in glory as the Reds took the lead. Granted what appeared to be a straightforward clearance, Grbić struck the ball directly at Darwin Núñez, causing it to bounce over the goal line and giving the Uruguayan possibly the simplest goal he will ever score for the Reds.

Although Alexis Mac Allister curled a shot just wide, the score would remain the same at halftime. Mac Allister would come close to adding another goal to his recent tally. You would have thought that the Reds would extend their lead after controlling possession, but Sheffield United managed to get back into the game.

As Liverpool found itself exposed, Gustavo Hamer was able to scuttle by Conor Bradley and grab a cross. Conor Bradley’s header was deflected in for an own goal, leaving the Reds with more work than they had anticipated.

Anfield was becoming increasingly frustrated as time passed, not least because Jürgen Klopp was infuriated by his team’s inability to capitalise on its possession. Fortunately, the Reds would find a winner, and it was only a matter of time before Alexis Mac Allister once again proved to be the hero, thundering in a second goal to calm the crowd.

Late on, Cody Gakpo would seal the deal, propelling the Reds back to the top of the Premier League. These are the four observations Liverpool.com made during the course of the match.

A pre-kick ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ chant from the Anfield crowd is nothing new. However, some of the players may surprise you by participating.

Kostas Tsimikas was plainly seen mouthing the club hymn behind him as the television cameras roamed around the stadium prior to kickoff, focused on Jürgen Klopp as he got ready for one of his final games as manager of Anfield. True to his nickname, the Greek Scouser lives up to it.

    Alisson and Kelleher are equal

Caoimhín Kelleher: where would Liverpool be without him? The Irishman has been outstanding in Alisson Becker’s place, and in the first sixty seconds of the Reds’ match against Sheffield United, he provided even more proof of his significance.

Kelleher denied an unmarked James McAtee, demonstrating that he was aware of the threat even though some of his teammates didn’t seem to be. That was about as busy as he would be during the game, making his 24th appearance of the season and matching Alisson for the campaign in the process, but it was still an important intervention.

    Núñez’s perseverance is rewarded.

Núñez might have been due for some luck, considering some of the opportunities that haven’t worked out for him this season. It’s possible that not even he anticipated his opener to arrive as it did.

To his credit, though, the Uruguayan was able to create a goal out of an entirely harmless circumstance. Núñez had attempted, but failed, to shut down Grbić a few seconds earlier.

But he was not to be put off, as the visitors counterattacked and his leap proved to be the difference as Grbić’s second effort at a clearance was foiled, adding to Sheffield United’s anguish as the ball bounced over the line. Núñez’s perseverance is really beginning to pay off.

    Klopp loses his cool.

Once more, Liverpool gave the game a lot more tension than it deserved. Even though the Reds had a lot of possession, it was mostly wasted rather than used well, and they paid a price when Sheffield United equalised right away.

On the sidelines, Jürgen Klopp was becoming more and more upset, and you get a sneaking suspicion that his own team was the source of his ire. The German appeared more irate than anything, even when Alexis Mac Allister thundered the ball home to put his side ahead once again.

Naturally, the title chase adds extra pressure that may do odd things to a team, but Liverpool must take this lesson to heart. They can’t afford to make the same error at Old Trafford in a few days after failing to turn their dominance into goals against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Liverpool 1, Nottingham Forest 0: At the City Ground, Darwin Nunez’s stopped-time goal gave Liverpool a decisive three points in the title contest.

In the ninth minute of injury time, Darwin Nunez scored a thrilling goal to give Liverpool a decisive victory over Nottingham Forest.

As Forest raged about the length of added time given and referee Paul Tierney’s decision to halt a Forest assault because Ibrahima Konate had suffered a head injury, the Uruguayan came off the bench to score a header from an assist from Alexis Mac Allister. Play was restarted by Tierney, who gave Liverpool an unopposed drop ball to launch an attack, which resulted in a goal shortly after.

While there wasn’t much amusement in the first half, Caoimhin Kelleher made a great stop against Anthony Elanga after a quick burst by Forest, and Bobby Clark, making his first Premier League start, and Luis Diaz both missed close range shots.

A completely fragmented Reds team saw Cody Gakpo and Nunez of Liverpool strike into the side netting in the second half, while Elanga missed another excellent opportunity for the hosts in the first half.

    1. Caoimhin Kelleher makes a major comeback

If Elanga had scored midway through the first half, there’s a fair chance he would have been called offside, but Kelleher was unaware of that.

The former Manchester United winger’s effort wasn’t the best and went a little too near to Kelleher, but the Irish custodian held tall to make an excellent stop.

With Alisson’s injury, the 25-year-old is expected to play a major role in Liverpool’s campaign and appears to be developing every week.

    2. The City Ground is a place of uncertainty

It’s worth mentioning that the Trent’s initial conversations weren’t very tumultuous.

Given the rivalry between the two clubs from the 1970s and 1980s, this is, after all, something of a historical derby, and for a number of non-sporting reasons, there is still no love lost between the two groups of fans.

Although Nottingham Forest is still facing the threat of losing points, they are not alone. The City Ground was oddly quiet in the first half of the match, giving a reconstructed Liverpool team a much-needed advantage. However, after Nunez’s winner, which caused riotous scenes as Forest owner Evangelos Marinakas stormed onto the pitch, the ground came alive.

    3. A show of faith in Bobby Clark

Although the first half wasn’t particularly memorable, a lot of Liverpool’s attempts involved the young midfielder Clark, who was starting in his debut Premier League game following an incredibly successful week.

Clark was bright and full of energy, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he became a regular in Jurgen Klopp’s first team for the rest of the season—even when more of the big players returned. Meanwhile, players like Gakpo and Harvey Elliott appeared a little worn out from their recent efforts.

    4. Forest Striking Issues

Due to his penchant for scoring huge goals, Liverpool supporters would have been uneasy to see Divock Origi in the attacking role for the hosts, but in the end, the hosts’ attack lacked creativity.

Elanga had two of their best opportunities, one in each half, but both times, he and Forest were let down by a lack of composure in front of goal. Of course, they have more games to win at home than Liverpool does, but they will still need to contend with that in their relegation struggle.

    5. Nunez makes a spectacular comeback.

How significant could Nunez’s goal be for Liverpool in the championship match? That is still to be determined, but the happiness it inspired is telling enough on its own.

Now that they are ahead of the standings, Liverpool will undoubtedly start the match against Manchester City next weekend and will be the clear favourites to win the championship.

They might remember this day and this objective for decades to come.
