Liverpool goalkeeper has no idea of his future at club – “If the coach likes me…”

Vitezslav Jaros has been relegated to an unlikely No.1 spot this summer but the Liverpool goalkeeper is fumbling in the dark over his future at Anfield.

After the injury of regular player Matej Kovar, Jaros has the opportunity to start for the Czech Republic in the European U21 Championship.

England (June 22), Germany (June 25) and Israel (June 28) are their group stage opponents, in which the 21-year-old will make his first competitive appearances since October.

He spent last season on loan at Stockport but was sidelined by injury for two months before falling out of favor on his return.

Jaros turns 22 in July and returns to Liverpool as a local player in the Premier League. Speculation about Caoimhin Kelleher’s future continues. But speaking to iSport in his Czech homeland, he hinted he was unsure of the plans for him after pre-season.

“I should go to training. It will be very important there. If the coach likes you, he can say he will try you,” Jaros said.

“My loan at Stockport is over, I’m back at Liverpool. We’ll see what I can find.
“I don’t know if the club wants me to stay or go somewhere else. When the opportunity arises, you have to take it.”

Jaros has been a substitute for three Champions League games in 2020/21 but has spent much of the last two and a half years on loan at St Patrick’s Athletic, Notts County and then Stockport.

It would be a big step for him to be back in the first team now, although it’s not out of the question given how many players are needed first and foremost in training.

If he were to go, Jaros expressed a desire to stay in England but admitted he was “open to anything” that was presented to him. “I got used to life and football there,” he explained.

“If there’s a good offer, I’d like to stay. But I’m not against change either. I’m open to anything.”

Jaros joined Liverpool from Slavia Prague in 2017 and is in a difficult position this summer.

Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and are expected to sign at least one more midfielder. Defensive reinforcements could also be brought in.

Klopp has insisted he wants to complete the bulk of Liverpool’s transfer deal by July 6, at the start of pre-season. The Reds have generally made all their signings in mid-July during Germany’s spell in charge.

“The better players you want, the less desire the other club has to let them go. And that’s exactly what we’re prepared for,” Klopp said on 28 May.

“But it’s a long haul and a long pre-season and a long break in between, so we have time whether we sign players tomorrow or in six or seven weeks. Not a game changer for me, to be honest.
