Liverpool fans make their emotions apparent on Ronaldo with Diogo Jota's statement.

Some Liverpool fans questioned manager Roberto Martinez’s decision to keep Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota on the bench for Portugal’s Euro 2024 opener against the Czech Republic.

Liverpool fans questioned Portugal head coach Roberto Martinez’s decision to sideline Diogo Jota for his country’s Euro 2024 opening, while Cristiano Ronaldo started.

The choice to instead field AC Milan’s Rafael Leao in an attacking trio proved futile, as the former Everton manager relied on his substitutes to make the difference in the second half against the Czech Republic. Jota came on for the final half hour at Leipzig, trailing 1-0 after Lukas Provod scored in the 62nd minute.

The Reds forward’s arrival from the shadows proved to be an inspired move by his manager, as he assisted in the equaliser, which Robin Hranac knocked into his own net minutes later. His frightened own goal occurred as Ronaldo and Jota waited ready to pounce in the penalty area following a header across the box.

From then, Portugal dominated, with Martinez’s team boosted by the enthusiasm of their substitutions. They appeared to have had their just reward in the 87th minute, as Jota headed home a glanced cross from Ronaldo from five yards out to seal the victory for the Euro 2016 champions.

However, a VAR examination revealed that there was an offside in the build-up to the goal, therefore the apparent winner was ruled out. Nonetheless, Portugal did not give up in their pursuit for another goal, and they eventually took the lead for the first time in the evening in the second minute of injury time.

Francisco Conceicao’s spectacular goal, scored just moments after being inserted as a replacement, provoked exuberant celebrations from his teammates. On a night marked by Martinez’s bench reinforcements, some Liverpool fans questioned the former Wigan Athletic manager’s selection.

Some Liverpool fans questioned manager Roberto Martinez's decision to keep Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota on the bench

One fan was categorical in their belief that Jota’s omission from the start for Portugal’s opening had been a mistake, claiming: “Jota should be starting ahead of Ronaldo,” while a second added: “Bruno and Leao should be on the bench. I would start Jota with Cr7 up front and Bernardo Silva at 10.

Meanwhile, a third fan said: “Jota comes in and Portugal scores, that’s why he should start ahead of Ronaldo,” while another fan exaggerated Ronaldo’s advanced years as they delivered their assessment on the choice, saying: “For leaving my Jota on the bench, I wish they lose. What exactly is Ronaldo doing here? “That guy is almost 50.”

Going further, one enraged supporter stated that Diogo Jota should start over that loser Ronaldo, while another Reds fan added, “How Ronaldo is starting over Jota in 2024, I’ll never know.”

Slot’s reign at Liverpool could begin with Inacio transfer.

The Dutchman appears to be confident in obtaining solid results from the start of next season, and one of his primary requirements

The Dutchman appears to be confident in obtaining solid results from the start of next season, and one of his primary requirements is to strengthen the defensive.

    The Reds wants Goncalo Inacio.

According to CaughtOffside sources familiar with Slot’s plans, Sporting’s excellent centre-back Goncalo Inacio, whom Liverpool has been pursuing since last November, is the club’s primary goal.

In January, the Portuguese defender decided to stay with Sporting until the conclusion of the season for personal reasons.

However, he is now ready to make the big move to the Premier League, with Liverpool seeking to finalise his transfer in the coming weeks.

Keeping with the Reds defence, Virgil van Dijk’s position must be observed.

His contract will expire in June 2025, and conversations over his renewal have stalled. As a result, the Saudi Pro League continues to view him as a top priority.

In midfield, Liverpool is pursuing Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, a player Slot also values; however, there is fierce competition for his services, with several Italian and German clubs interested.

The Anfield club has requested information on the potential costs of the operation for Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, but Newcastle, AC Milan, and Manchester United are also in the running, so Liverpool are unlikely to have it all their own.

Sadio Mané 'admits to join Cristiano Ronaldo' as PSG and Liverpool eye Man City transfer target
Liverpool’s EURO rivals roundup: Man City and PSG both love the look of a starlet being watched at Anfield, while Sadio Mane may have come to terms with a Cristiano Ronaldo link.

Liverpool may soon have enough former players in Saudi Arabia to add their own Legends side to the league. Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are both completing transfers and they would join Roberto Firmino and Steven Gerrard in the move.

Sadio Mane could soon complete the five-man squad and he is rumored to have agreed a deal to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr. He had a difficult season after leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich last year, but he reportedly tried to stay and fight for his place in the team. But while the transfers of Mane, Gerrard and even Firmino – who would always start on a free transfer – have little relevance to Liverpool’s plans, the transfers of Henderson and Fabinho have put a spoke in the works for the rest of the summer. And the Reds aren’t the only European side that could fall behind.

At Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez has been enticed by Saudi overtures, with a fee of $39m (£30m/€35m) agreed with Al Ahli. Pep Guardiola has started drawing up a list of possible replacements.

This could point him towards a young starlet who is admired by both Liverpool and PSG. Manchester City scouts were “impressed from start to finish”.

Sadio Mané to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr
According to L’Equipe, Mané has agreed to join Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr in the latest episode of the great Saudi exodus. Yesterday The Athletic broke the news of the talks, but the French outlet now claims a deal has been reached.

Although the transfer is not yet complete, Mané has “given his agreement in principle”. It would bring an abrupt end to his difficult spell at Bayern Munich after just one injury-related season

Thomas Tuchel appeared to have hinted earlier in the month that Mane could still leave despite the player’s propensity to fight for his place.

Liverpool.com says: Another day, another disappointment. Mane seemed like the type to resist Saudi overtures and prove he still belonged at a high level in Europe, but the money seems to have spoken again.

No doubt Liverpool’s growing core of legends will increase interest in the Saudi league as the season progresses, with clips circulating on social media just as they did around Ronaldo. This, of course, is part of the plan.

Bradley Barcola is a favorite of PSG, Man City, and Liverpool.

Sadio Mané 'admits to join Cristiano Ronaldo' as PSG and Liverpool eye Man City transfer target
According to 90MIN, Manchester City may try to sign Lyon’s young Bradley Barcola to replace Mahrez. The 20-year-old only made his official debut in January, but he quickly rose to prominence, finishing the season with seven goals and 10 assists across all competitions.

Liverpool is ‘keeping tabs’ on Barcola, according to a Fabrizio Romano report from April (via Get French Football News). Le Parisien recently reported that PSG continues to monitor the situation.

Barcola appears to be a promising talent, but the player has admitted that he needs one more year at Lyon to “confirm” his development, according to Liverpool Dot Com.

While PSG has a history of snatching up the best French talent, this stance may change if Manchester City decides to push for him as a replacement for Mahrez. However, Liverpool might be hoping he bides his time until next summer, which may be the time to begin seriously searching for a Mohamed Salah replacement.

Liverpool could give the 19-year-old, who has already completed his dream transfer, a chance

    Melkamu Frauendorf
Liverpool young winger Melkamu Frauendorf is part of Jurgen Klopp’s 32-man pre-season squad that traveled to Baden-Wuerttemberg for a summer training camp

Melkamu Frauendorf is hoping to leave a lasting impression at Liverpool’s training camp in Germany.

The 19-year-old was signed by Hoffenheim in 2020, before signing professional contracts with Liverpool a year later. In his debut season with the Reds, the versatile attacking midfielder shone for the under-18s, scoring seven goals, including in the FA Youth Cup final.

An even more impressive season followed, resulting in the then 17-year-old Frauendorf making his first team debut in January 2022 as a substitute against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup. He earned his first start for Liverpool in a Carabao Cup win against Derby County last season. Last season, Frauendorf showed his versatility and was used across the board. The Germany U19 international has been deployed as both a left and right forward, and also successfully broke into the forward position for the U21 side, scoring twice and getting one assist in three games.

Frauendorf had attracted interest from other clubs, before signing for Liverpool, and was aware of interest from the Reds for a year before deciding to move to Merseyside. The teenager began imagining playing for the club in 2017 as he watched from the stands Trent Alexander-Arnold score his first goal for Liverpool against Hoffenheim in a Champions League play-off match.

“I dreamed of playing for Liverpool and going to England, to play at Anfield,” he recalled. “I dreamed about it.”

Full name: Melkamu Benjamin Daniel Frauendorf

Date of birth: January 12, 2004

    Place of birth: Kembata, Ethiopia

Position: Right winger, Left winger, Centre-forward

Career History: Frauendorf came off the bench on his Liverpool debut against Shrewsbury Town in January 2022 and made his first starting XI for the Reds against Derby County in September 2022. He hopes to feature in more matchday squads the next season.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, and Newcastle are competing for the "Gambian Hurricane" who lit up the U20 World Cup.
MANCHESTER UNITED and Newcastle are reportedly in a bid to sign teenage striker Adama Bojang.

Nicknamed ‘the Gambian hurricane’ by fans, the striker has already attracted a lot of interest from both the Premier League and clubs abroad.

The 19-year-old Bojang impressed at the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year before putting in similar performances at the Under-20 World Cup.

According to The Guardian, Man United and Newcastle are just the latest Prem sides to show keen interest in Bojang.

The duo join Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Wolves lining up for the signing of Bojang. German sides RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are also keen on signing the Gambian star, who plays for Steve Biko FC in his home country.

Bojang has reportedly already received an offer from the Bundesliga and is interested in moving to Germany.

But the appeal of the Prem could prove too strong if a formal offer arrives.

The 6ft 3in ace is expected to be available this summer for just £2.6million.

European teams Marseille, Ajax Amsterdam and Royal Antwerp are also considered long-time admirers. Speaking about a possible move earlier this year, Bojang said: “I’ve heard the news and I’m thrilled.

“It lifts my spirits. I focus more on consistency, which motivates me a lot, because it’s a good feeling to see clubs like that following you.
“Consistency will make them hungrier than me.

“I want to be like Cristiano Ronaldo because he is my favorite when it comes to big names. “I watched his videos on YouTube after games. He posts his training sessions there, so sometimes I try to watch them and motivate myself through that.

Mauricio Pochettino ‘orders’ Chelsea’s transfer officials to sabotage a £34 million Liverpool agreement

Mauricio Pochettino 'orders' Chelsea's transfer officials to sabotage a £34 million Liverpool agreement
Liverpool could be upset with Chelsea and Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer window.

Chelsea are reportedly planning to hijack Liverpool’s £34m deal for Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga at the request of new manager Mauricio Pochettino. Both teams are looking for midfield reinforcements and see the 21-year-old as a possible solution to their problems.

Celta are happy to lose their star after a superb La Liga campaign, as their £34m contract includes a release clause – alarming clubs both in the Premier League and across Europe. Liverpool have been one of the strongest links as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his midfield, starting with the finalized deal for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

The Reds were ready to take a ‘concrete step’ for Veiga, as journalist Rudy Galetti explained to Give Me Sport: “The race for Veiga will be won by the fastest club.” He also gave up Manchester City, Real Madrid and Napoli. Tip to try to sign the midfielder even though Chelsea could now start the race.

Spanish magazine Relevo claim Pochettino insisted the Blues pay his release clause as part of the club’s rebuild, with the Argentine looking to build his squad amid massive destruction at the hands of Todd Boehly and his company for the huge £600m Spree outlay in the last two transfer windows before Pochettino arrived.

Mauricio Pochettino 'orders' Chelsea's transfer officials to sabotage a £34 million Liverpool agreement
With Veiga having a fixed transfer fee in his contract, the report says it is up to the clubs to convince him to give them preference over their rivals. While Liverpool have an advantage, Chelsea are said to be ‘booming’ as Pochettino have taken the lead in the transfer market over Veiga.

Chelsea may have stepped up their push to sign Veiga after talks with Brighton over Moises Caicedo were described as ‘slow’ after the Seagulls demanded a price tag of over £100m for the Ecuadorian.

Veiga has been named as one of the Blues’ alternatives as they look to be more cautious in this window, with Romeo Lavia another on the shortlist of players to partner with Enzo Fernandez. However, Arsenal have the upper hand in talks with the Belgian, who could cost up to £40m despite Southampton’s relegation.

The Gunners have a good relationship with his agent, who also represents Bukayo Saka and helped broker a new long-term deal between the club and the recent England hat-trick hero in May.

Meanwhile, Chelsea could sell Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount, while N’Golo Kante is on the verge of turning down a new contract and leaving for Saudi Arabia on a free transfer, so it’s clear why Pochettino insisted on paying Veiga’s release clause.
