Liverpool transfer updates: Martin Zubimendi reportedly 'chooses to leave' while 'contact made' for Ajax talent

Liverpool Transfer News: Martin Zubimendi reportedly wants to leave Real Sociedad, while the Reds are said to have made initial contact for Ajax’s young defender Devyne Rensch.

As the January transfer window approaches, Liverpool’s priorities may shift towards securing their current key players rather than adding new faces. The window opens in just over a month, but on Merseyside, this may not be a welcomed prospect. Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah all have contracts nearing their end, with concerns rising over Salah’s potential departure following his recent comments. Soon, all three will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

Despite Liverpool’s strong performances in both the Premier League and Champions League, January could provide an opportunity for Arne Slot to bolster his squad in pursuit of silverware. Once again, a familiar name is being linked with a move to Anfield.

Here’s the latest Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer rumors surrounding the club, including a possible exit for Martin Zubimendi.

    Martin Zubimendi (Real Sociedad)
Liverpool is reportedly confident it can outbid Arsenal for Martin Zubimendi, after Spanish sources revealed that the midfielder has decided to leave Real Sociedad, according to TEAMtalk.

Spanish outlet TDF claims that Zubimendi intends to leave his boyhood club in January, despite having turned down a move to Anfield in the summer to remain with Sociedad. It’s believed the 25-year-old now regrets his decision and feels the time has come to depart.

TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool is set to reignite its interest in the Spain international, with the Reds now seen as the frontrunners for his signature, despite Arsenal’s own interest.

Liverpool.com comments: If the opportunity arises, Liverpool should certainly consider revisiting Zubimendi, provided he hasn’t damaged his relationship with Richard Hughes. While Ryan Gravenberch has performed well in the No.6 role this season, adding another top-quality option could be crucial in the title race. However, considering Zubimendi’s previous commitment to staying at Sociedad, it’s wise not to get too excited just yet.

Liverpool transfer updates: Martin Zubimendi reportedly 'chooses to leave' while 'contact made' for Ajax talent

Liverpool has reportedly made initial contact with Ajax over a potential move for young defender Devyne Rensch, according to Sport. The 21-year-old right-back is under contract in Amsterdam until the end of the season, and while he’s been offered a new deal, he has yet to commit his future to the club.

Tottenham and Barcelona are also said to be interested in the player, but with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future uncertain, Liverpool may increase its efforts to find a potential replacement.

Liverpool.com notes: Rensch has already earned two senior appearances for the Netherlands, highlighting his high potential. With Liverpool needing to consider future options for Alexander-Arnold, it’s likely we’ll hear more about Rensch in the coming months.

The Republic of Ireland international has made just 24 appearances for United since 2019 but has shown he has what it takes to be number one in the top flight.

Brendan McGilligan considers his goalkeeping options as Kelleher prepares to face Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

Calvin Ramsey hopes his injury problems will finally come to an end.

The defender, signed from Aberdeen last summer, was ruled out for the rest of the season with a back problem before recovering for two club games and his Scotland debut.

Ramsey has been on loan at Preston this season in a bid to gain regular game time, but his condition has prevented him from making his Lancashire debut. Manager Ryan Rowe has suggested the right-back could return in November and hopes Ramsey’s injury will be over.

Jamal Musiala advice not to quit Bayern Munich.

Journalist Raimund Hinko of SportBILD has written an open letter urging midfielder Jamal Musiala, who is linked to Liverpool, to stay at Bayern Munich:

Dear Jamal, I am writing to you because of the circumstances that exist right now. I am deeply concerned that Bayern could lose you since it seems like they would offer their shirt to Real Madrid, Liverpool FC, or Manchester City to entice you to leave Munich. That cannot, under any circumstances, occur.

I initially saw the most recent news as a storm in a teacup. Because there are journalists who always hear the grass grow somewhere in the world.

But when Didi Hamann ventured to forecast as a Sky pundit that you, dear Jamal, will quit Bayern, that was a bit too much for me. that there is a huge market for you and that they will permit you to leave.

“Jamal, you currently have a market value of 110 million euros, with room to grow. That would be a profitable place to do business. But you would tear apart Bayern’s hearts, to use a phrase from Manuel Neuer.

“Purchasing Florian Wirtz by Bayern would not be improper. If you both played side by side, like you recently did with the national team. However, if your contract is extended into 2026—ideally until 2030—the fans will be quite thrilled.

Liverpool monitoring the talent at Ajax

Football Insider reports that Devyne Rensch, a highly regarded Ajax defender, is a target for Liverpool.

Despite only being 20 years old, Rensch has made over a century of appearances for the Dutch powerhouses, and it is rumoured that Premier League rivals Arsenal are showing interest in him.

With Ajax, who are now in the Eredivisie relegation zone, the right-back has a contract that runs through 2025.

Liverpool are tracking versatile Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are assessing the market for potential right-backs who would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and also fit into other defensive roles.

Rensch is believed to be a target for the club’s recruitment team, with Premier League title rivals Arsenal also keeping a close eye on him.

The defender is Ajax’s first-choice right-back and, despite being just 20 years old, has made 101 first-team appearances for the Dutch powerhouse.

He has registered an assist in nine games in all competitions this season, but has missed the last three games through injury.

Rensch only played as a right-back in the 2023/24 season, but his impressive versatility means he can also play as a centre-back, defensive midfielder or left-back.
He also experienced European football at the Johan Cruyff Arena, making a total of 19 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.

The right-back, who is under contract with Ajax until June 2025, played his first and only senior match with the Netherlands in September 2021.
Ajax are bottom of the Eredivisie with just one win in eight games this season.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defense ahead of the January transfer window.
Trent Alexander-Arnold missed three games through injury earlier this season, deputizing for Joe Gomez in the lesser-known right-back role.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are fourth in the Premier League after 10 games, one point behind second-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has long been interested in Nice midfielders Hefren Thuram and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, but those moves could now become complicated.

Liverpool could regret signing Hefren Thuram and Nico Williams, with a move for the in-demand duo set to become more difficult than ever.

Spaniard Williams, 21, is regarded as one of La Liga’s brightest prospects but his club are now demanding a new deal to keep him at the club alongside his older brother Inaki, who is locked out until 2028.
Like Williams, Nisa midfielder Thuram is also attracting attention from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old footballer has entered the international league of France and is attracting the attention of Juventus.

The Italian giants are looking for a replacement for Paul Pogba, who could face an extended retirement from football after testing positive for a banned substance, and believe Thuram could be the perfect replacement.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has long been interested in Nice midfielders Hefren Thuram and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, but those

Thuram is the son of former French footballer Lilian Thuram, a former Juventus defender, and his older brother Marcus plays for domestic rivals Inter.

According to a new report from Calciomercato, Thuram is Juventus’ top transfer target next summer and is Pogba’s de facto replacement at the Bianconeri.

It means Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could regret his decision not to sign the Frenchman this summer.
Turam’s transfer fee could rise due to interest from Juventus and a deal could now become difficult.

Bilbao, meanwhile, have insisted Nico Williams is not going anywhere and is confident of his commitment to the Basque Country’s long-term future.
Club president Jon Uriarte has now spoken about the winger’s future.

“We are calm,” Uriarte told Diario AS about the future of Williams Jr., among other stars.
“We want an attractive project for Nico and other players like Unai Gomes, who extended his contract this week.

We think Nico will find this project attractive and we believe in him.” His family is loyal to athletics, and this is the highlight of his career.
We have nothing to say about any rumours.

Liverpool have missed out on several transfer targets this summer, including Moises Caicedo and Romeo Rabia, who moved to Chelsea, and Sofian Amrabat, who caught Klopp’s eye, at Manchester United.
