10 things seen during Liverpool's training as three well-known figures make a comeback, but Arne Slot is furious.

With the return of three Euro 2024 players this week, Arne Slot’s statistics have increased as the Reds get deep into their preseason training this summer.

Liverpool is hard at work getting ready for the 2024–25 campaign, and supporters of the Reds will be happy to see some more well-known players in action at the AXA Training Centre.

Few first-team players were on Arne Slot’s roster at the start of the summer because most of them were involved in international exploits for their nations, but most of them have since made various comebacks.

During the first full week of training, Mohamed Salah was the first of Liverpool’s main players to return. On Tuesday, Dominik Szoboszlai and Andy Robertson returned after their performances at Euro 2024.

As preparations for the forthcoming season heat up, Reds supporters can now view some of the greatest photos from yesterday’s training session. This is what we observed.

    Robertson Returns

In addition, fan favourite Dominik Szoboszlai has returned from his Euro 2024 duties with Hungary. He was spotted welcoming teammate Curtis Jones to the gym upon his arrival back in Merseyside, ahead of another demanding preseason.

Arne Slot, the team’s new manager, seems to be enjoying his first few weeks in command. He has been actively participating in training sessions to get to know his players and introduce a new style of play.

    The balls are out

With a complete bag of balls seemingly emptied onto the training pitches and players looking to be playing 11v11, it appears like activity is in full swing at the AXA Training Centre.

Vitezslav Jaros, the custodian for the Czech Republic, was the third player to resume preseason training on Tuesday. He had an uneventful Euro 2024 and worked on a variety of activities on his first day back.

A number of Liverpool’s youth and U21 players were called up to train with the select group of first-team players during the first few days of preseason; however, it seems that some have stayed on.

Although Slot seems to have been all smiles and cheers over the first several days of preseason, this photo definitely shows otherwise, as he expresses his emotions at Tuesday’s practice.

Now that most of the Reds team is back together, they can train as a collective, which means everyone will partake in a lot of running and strenuous conditioning exercises.

Liverpool’s full injury list including Trent Alexander-Arnold among 10 players out

Let’s see what each of our current absentees is up to as Liverpool has had numerous fitness concerns thus far this season.

Prior to this past weekend’s winter break, the Reds were given a rare three weeks off from Premier League action as focus shifted to the domestic competitions.

Jurgen Klopp’s team will next play Bournemouth, but the manager will still be missing several of his most important senior players for the trip down the south coast.

The manager will face more challenges when league play returns than just injuries, since Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah have already started their Asian Cup and AFCON campaigns, respectively.

Given the calibre of the teams they are playing for, it is likely that they will both go to the competition finals. In that case, their scheduled return date is February 17 at Brentford.

Before the interval, Trent Alexander-Arnold was the most recent player to be added to the list of casualties. He had sustained a “little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee,” which would likely keep him out of action for three weeks.

The vice captain will probably be sidelined for the next three games at the very least because of this; a realistic return date would be at home against Chelsea at the end of the month.

Dominik Szoboszlai sustained a hamstring injury during the 4-2 victory over Newcastle at home, but the midfield player made a suggestion last week that he “may” play against the Cherries on Sunday.

The midfield player is in a battle against time to make an unlikely comeback at Vitality Stadium as he did not train with the team on Wednesday.

Although left-backs Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are still out due to severe shoulder ailments, the former stated earlier this week that he is attempting to regain fitness by participating in “proper sessions” in Dubai.

Liverpool’s full injury list including Trent Alexander-Arnold among 10 players out

After an injury-plagued season, it is hoped that Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago, two Spanish midfield players, will be able to resume training next month.

Joel Matip’s time in a Liverpool shirt may have come to an end after his December ACL injury.

The Cameroon defender’s season is over, and because his contract expires in the summer, it looks like his time at Anfield may have come to an unpleasant conclusion due to the injury.

Ben Doak’s comeback to the field is still uncertain following an unfortunate knee injury he sustained last month.

Here is the complete list of players Klopp currently lacks:

    Dominik Szoboszlai(hamstring)

    Trent Alexander Arnold (knee)

    Mohamed Salah (AFCON)

    Wataru Endo (Asian Cup)

    Andy Robertson (shoulder)

    Tsimikas Kostas (collarbone)

    Thiago Hip

    Stefan Bajcetic (growing pains)

    Joel Matip (ACL)

    Ben Doak (MCL)

Liverpool’s 25-man squad worked out on Wednesday.

    Goalkeepers: Adrian, Kelleher, Misciur, Alisson

Defenders: Bradley, Phillips*, Quansah, Gomez, Van Dijk, Konate, Beck*, Scanlon, and Bradley

‘Very clear message’ – former Liverpool player makes transfer decision amid Chelsea January links

'Very clear message' - former Liverpool player makes transfer decision amid Chelsea January links

In spite of previous claims, the former Liverpool player has made a transfer u-turn.

Based on the most recent sources, it appears like Roberto Firmino, the former star of Liverpool, could not be leaving Saudi Arabia after all.
After having difficulty in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli, the Brazilian was rumoured to be leaving during the January transfer window. After leaving Anfield in the summer when his contract ended, he made the move and made a fantastic debut with a hat-trick, but he hasn’t scored since.

According to Matt Law of the Telegraph, Firmino was linked to a move to Chelsea as the Blues wanted to reinforce their attack with Armando Broja being their sole senior central striker and Nicolas Jackson out on international duty. It stated that Firmino had grown dissatisfied with Saudi life, however current sources refuted such allegations.

Fabrizio Romano claims that the most recent information regarding Firmino is that he will stay at the Middle East club and that no move is planned. Despite recent claims, Roberto Firmino does not intend to leave Al Ahli during the January transfer window, the player posted on X. Message from his camp, quite clear:

He intends to remain at Al Ahli. No alterations are anticipated. His team is now third in the Saudi Pro League, behind Al-Nassr and Al-Hilal, despite his problems in front of goal. They have one of the league’s most star-studded squads, with players like Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie, Gabri Veiga, Allan Saint-Maximin, Riyad Mahrez, and Merih Demiral.

Firmino had earlier been connected to a trade to Sheffield United, but there was never any indication that the deal would materialise beyond transfer rumours. In just 25 league games last season, he managed a very respectable 11 goals and 4 assists, which was a fantastic return considering that Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota were all above him in the standings.

  • Liverpool ought to “replace” Dominik Szoboszlai with $105 million transfer that Barcelona will find ‘impossible’

Liverpool ought to “replace” Dominik Szoboszlai with $105 million transfer that Barcelona will find ‘impossible’

Liverpool should "replace" Dominik Szoboszlai with $105 million transfer that would be "impossible" for Barcelona

A major reorganization involving Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, and a $105 million player wanted by Barcelona’s transfer gurus could help Liverpool reach 2-0.

It doesn’t seem too early to nominate Dominik Szoboszlai for signing of the season even in the month of October.
He was undoubtedly the highlight of Liverpool’s summer transfer activity, with the RB Leipzig signing appearing to be a true steal at $73 million (£60 million/€69 million).

Frankly, it baffles me how Liverpool was able to enter the picture and exercise that release clause with essentially no opposition from other European footballing giants.
Szoboszlai is one of the league’s standout performers already at the age of 22, so there is only upward movement for him.

The fact that Steven Gerrard has already been mentioned as a comparison says a lot.
Particularly after only a few months at the club, that is the highest honor a Liverpool player can receive.

It’s possible that even though Szoboszlai wears the number eight shirt, he won’t always play the Gerrard role, but Jürgen Klopp has never shied away from changing things up, and there’s one move that might make a lot of sense soon.

The right wing will be vacant after Mohamed Salah departs. Nobody in world football will be able to step up similarly, but Szoboszlai, who spent the majority of his time at Leipzig as a kind of narrow right-winger, would perform better than most.

There would be some logic in such a move, even in terms of the current squad.
If Szoboszlai switches to the right, there will still be competition for the number eight positions from players like Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott when Salah leaves.

This reshuffle would only be possible with a game-changing transfer, perhaps paid for with Salah’s record-breaking earnings. And while moving Szoboszlai to another location to make room for a new addition might seem offensive, many would have said the same when the Egyptian himself pushed Sadio Mané to the left.

Liverpool should "replace" Dominik Szoboszlai with $105 million transfer that would be "impossible" for Barcelona

Xabi Alonso, who oversaw Florian Wirtz’s comeback, is the only person who could rationalize all of this.

At the young age of 20, it may seem strange for Wirtz to be making a comeback, but a cruciate ligament injury that caused him to miss the better part of a year already put an end to his meteoric rise.
The youngster at the center of Alonso’s revolution at Bayer Leverkusen has, however, allayed most concerns regarding the long-term effects.

Wirtz has had a scorching start to the campaign, scoring three goals and dishing out four assists across all competitions to propel Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga and Group H of the Europa League.
He is being linked to a number of elite clubs, including Bayern Munich and Barcelona, just like when he first made a name for himself.

For almost any German talent emerging in the Bundesliga, a transfer to Bayern is a very real possibility.
Although Wirtz is closely watched by those at the Nou Camp, a move to Barcelona may prove more challenging; in fact, Mundo Deportivo suggests it is “almost impossible.”.

He is anticipated to sell for more than $105 million (£87 million/€100 million), which is why.
With the riches of the Premier League unmatched anywhere, Liverpool would undoubtedly have a transfer advantage over Bayern Munich at such a price.

In the middle of the park, Wirtz would have many of the same characteristics as Szoboszlai.
When he has the ball, he is even more of a forward-thinking monster, with a propensity to propel Alonso’s team forward with both deadly passes and intricate maze runs.

When compared to Szoboszlai, who is a more experienced presser, Klopp would need to determine whether Wirtz can provide the same off-the-ball tendencies.

The German wonderkid is not a luxury addition, however, as Alonso demands a lot of his Bayer Leverkusen charges when he is not in control.

Leroy Sané transfer rumors have done nothing more than highlight Liverpool’s real lack of direct options for Salah’s replacement.
Therefore, moving Wirtz and giving Szoboszlai a new position could be the wisest use of any potential Saudi money; additionally, with Barcelona possibly priced out, Klopp might have another unexpectedly easy shot at a generational talent.

Paul Merson is in disbelieve nobody else tried to sign ‘outstanding’ Liverpool player

Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been a revelation for the Reds this season, has been praised by Paul Merson for Liverpool’s trade for him.

The pundit praised the Hungarian international, who Liverpool acquired this summer from RB Leipzig after activating his £60 million release clause, in an interview with Sportskeeda.

Many have already named Szoboszlai, 22, as one of the Premier League signings of the season after the 22-year-old seamlessly adapted to Liverpool’s midfield.

The playmaker was at his best last night as Szoboszlai’s thunderous goal advanced Liverpool to the League Cup’s round of 16.

Merson can’t believe no other club made a move for Szoboszlai this summer given how outstanding the 22-year-old has been this season.

Dominik Szoboszlai has been absolutely outstanding; how has everyone else missed out on him?, Merson remarked about Liverpool’s new midfield superstar.

Liverpool will be happy that Szoboszlai was not pursued by another club.

Despite the fact that Szoboszlai only recently joined Liverpool, it already seems impossible to imagine him playing for any other Premier League or international team.

Under Jurgen Klopp, the midfielder has been a sensation, and Szoboszlai is only getting better with each match for the Reds.

The midfielder could end up being a steal for Liverpool at £60 million, and Szoboszlai’s standing at Anfield keeps getting better every week.

What Harvey Elliott did to ‘special’ Liverpool player last night

Harvey Elliott was reportedly seen taunting Ben Doak ahead of Liverpool’s League Cup clash with Leicester City.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the 20-year-old midfielder was seen giving the teenage winger some last-minute advice during the Anfield performance of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

With Doak impressing again for Liverpool despite failing to get on the scoresheet, fans will be happy to see Elliott get the 17-year-old up to speed ahead of last night’s League Cup game.

Lauded as a “special” talent by Barry Lewtas, Doak is easily Liverpool’s most exciting teenager and a player who many fans expect to become a superstar in the future.

And fans will have loved what Elliott did with Doak last night as the youngster acted as a quasi-leader for the Scotland youth international in his first Anfield appearance.
In fact, Doak is on the Glory road with Liverpool and reassurance by senior players like Elliott will be the key in the young man who strikes his true potential.

The expectations are high for Doak and the words of encouragement from his Liverpool teammates will be fundamental in the winger while maintaining his development on the straight and restricted path.

According to expert one Liverpool player is now a lot slower this season

    Eamon Dunphy

This season, the Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has come under fire for playing slower than usual for both club and country.

Irish commentator Eamon Dunphy criticized the Anfield captain for his apparent lack of speed in crucial matches this season for both Liverpool and the Netherlands in a statement to The Stand.

Due to what appears to be preseason rust, Van Dijk hasn’t been at his best as a defender. And Dunphy has since targeted the defender for appearing to lose a step in his play.

Regarding Van Dijk’s alleged lack of speed this season, the Irish commentator said: “West Ham scored one yesterday, and there’s a big question mark around Van Dijk.

“You watched the game in the Aviva when we played Holland; you know even Adam Idah had the legs on him and he was very fortunate not to give away a penalty or a goal.

    Eamon Dunphy

He lost a few pace yards, which for him were crucial.
They have firepower up front, but they are obviously weak at the back in comparison to Liverpool.

For Liverpool, Van Dijk must soon get back to his best.

There is no getting around the fact that Van Dijk has lost some of his speed, primarily because of the defender’s ACL injury, which the Dutch superstar sustained in 2020.

And even though the center back is now 32 years old and has lost some of his speed, he still acknowledges that his form needs to improve.

The defender has not been at the top of his game this year, and with Liverpool now appearing to be in a title race, Jurgen Klopp will need Van Dijk to be at his best if they are to contend with Manchester City

Jürgen Klopp disagrees with Liverpool contract as Dominik Szoboszlai makes bold Manchester City claim

Liverpool and Chelsea intensify efforts to sign the 18-year-old defender.

Latest news from Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp is believed to have disagreed with Anfield officials over a contract, while Dominik Szoboszlai has sent a bullish message to Manchester City.

Liverpool prepare to face Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.
Jurgen Klopp and Anfield officials are reportedly at odds over a new contract, while Dominik Szoboszlai is confident for the rest of the season.

Jurgen Klopp wants a deal for Thiago, but some officials disagree

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp wants the club to extend Thiago’s contract before the end of the season until after it expires, reports 90Min.
Thiago signed a four-year deal when he arrived from Bayern Munich in 2020 for a $31m (£25m/€29m) deal, so he could be in the final months of his Anfield career.
Unlike the manager, senior figures are not convinced Thiago deserves a new contract and are unsure whether the Spaniard has done enough to justify his salary, which is one of the highest at the club.

The 32-year-old is yet to feature for the club this season as he recovers from hip surgery in May and has only played 51 of 120 Premier League games since his arrival due to persistent fitness problems.

Thiago told the club he did not want to leave this summer due to interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey and instead decided to fight for his place, but further negotiations would take place before January.
And depending on the outcome of those discussions, there is a “significant” possibility that the veteran could leave the club during the winter window.

Dominik Szoboszlai makes optimistic predictions for Man City

Liverpool and Chelsea intensify efforts to sign the 18-year-old defender.

According to the Times, Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has told his teammates that he hopes to win their matches against Manchester City this season.
Szoboszlai, who is playing his first season in the Premier League after a $77m (£60m/€70m) move from RB Leipzig, apparently asked the players which games on the calendar would be the most difficult. They picked the games against City and Manchester United, but Szoboszlai explained he thought they would win them all.

Liverpool, currently two points behind Pep Guardiola’s side at the top of the Premier League table, are set to travel to the Etihad at the end of November.
He lost that match 4-1 in April as part of a miserable 2022/23 season, but managed to beat eventual treble winners City 1-0 at Anfield.

However, Szoboszlai won’t get his first taste of the rivalry with Manchester United until mid-December, when the Red Devils look to avenge the historic 7-0 defeat in March.

Chelsea could definitely use more depth at left-back, as Ben Chilwell is currently the only dependable player on the team.
In the London club’s first team, Dorgu might compete with Chilwell as Chilwell’s backup.

Liverpool needs to find a good replacement for Andrew Robertson in the meantime.

Since joining the team from Hull City, the Scottish defender has excelled, but over the past 12 months, his performances have been patchy.

7 surprising stats behind Dominik Szoboszlai's superb start to life at Liverpool

Dominik Szoboszlai has adapted to his new surroundings at Liverpool quickly, and we’ve selected seven impressive statistics to explain his outstanding start at Anfield.

After triggering the midfielder’s £60 million release clause, Liverpool acquired him this summer from RB Leipzig.
A five-year contract was signed by the 22-year-old at Anfield, where he has made an immediate impact.

He scored a stunning goal from outside the box into the top corner of the net against Leicester City in the EFL Cup to cap off a recent spellbinding performance.
Undoubtedly, Jurgen Klopp was pleased with his performance.

After the game, Klopp told reporters, “I don’t have to tell him to shoot; he knows better than me that he has a pretty good skill.

“The next one was another grenade, slightly over. That is evident.
He hasn’t made an impact yet in Premier League games because everyone tries to block him.

“However, there’s a good chance the ball will be in if he follows through. But great goal.
Wataru was in the situation where he passed the ball through and there was no midfielder or defender available to hold him at that time.

“That is why it’s crucial to try to play the first pass forward after winning the ball, or at the very least, have a forward-thinking idea.
That was very helpful in that situation.

7 surprising stats behind Dominik Szoboszlai's superb start to life at Liverpool

Szoboszlai is still very new to Liverpool, but the early indications are very encouraging.
He’s had a remarkable start in the Premier League, and we’ve selected seven impressive stats to support that.

    – The Liverpool midfielder has two goals outside of the penalty area. In his eight games for the Reds, he has only accrued an xG of 0.59, giving him an xG overperformance of 1.41 goals.

    – His most recent miraculous goal, which he scored against Leicester, was made with just a xG of 0.9.
    Select that one.

    – To date in the Premier League, Szoboszlai has given his teammates 12 chances.
Since his arrival at Liverpool, only Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah have produced more than this.

    – Perhaps even more impressively, the midfielder has created 30 more shots than any other Liverpool player, which is a record.
When looking at the entire Premier League, only Bukayo Saka, Rodri, and James Maddison are ranked higher than Szoboszlai.

The 22-year-old makes 5.17 successful passes into the final third on average per 90.
In the Liverpool team, only Roberton averages more.

    – In September, Liverpool’s new-look midfield of Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo has contributed to six goals.

That is how many Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita combined for the entire 2017–18 campaign.

Additionally useful off the ball is Szoboszlai.
More than players like Henderson and Milner were averaging last season, the midfielder wins 11.5 tackles on average out of every 90.

  • Wataru Endo’s jersey number has been confirmed – and why he chose it

Wataru Endo’s jersey number has been confirmed – and why he chose it

Liverpool have received support to replace Ryan Gravenberch in the time remaining in the summer transfer window.
Wataru Endo’s transfer to Liverpool is official after swapping Stuttgart for Anfield and his new shirt number has been confirmed.

Endo has been announced as the Reds’ third signing this summer, following the additions of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

The 30-year-old arrives to bring experience to the squad after James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho left for other projects.

The deal is valued at around £16.24million and the move marks a dream come true for Endo in a career that has seen him hone his craft in Japan, Belgium and Germany.

He can now add England to the list and adopted the number 3 shirt worn by Fabinho when he arrived at Liverpool. “Number three is my number because I played as number 3 in Stuttgart,” he explained. “And also when I played in Japan. I love this song! I can’t wait to play this song here.”

Others who have worn the shirt in the Premier League era include Steve Finnan, Paul Konchesky and Bjorn Tore Kvarme.

Endo arrives not too dissimilar to Szoboszlai, with little time between news of the breakdown of Liverpool’s chase and the official announcement.

The Japan captain arrives with a significantly lower profile than the Reds’ first two signings this summer, but he is highly regarded in Germany having made 133 appearances for Stuttgart. Despite being a defensive midfielder by trade, Endo can play at centre-back and has even had a chance at right-back, fitting into the form left behind by Milner earlier this summer.

It could prove a wise move for Liverpool, although that will only be the case if they also add a younger, more prominent No6 to their ranks before the September 1 deadline.

Trent Alexander-Arnold faces new ‘threat’ as Liverpool’s upgraded weapon becomes clear

Liverpool ready to pay £25.9m transfer fee to sign versatile defender - Klopp's wish

Trent Alexander-Arnold has dominated Liverpool’s set-pieces under Jürgen Klopp, but he now appears to be facing Dominik Szoboszlai, a new player.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has become the best technician at his old club since he first burst onto the scene as a teenage wonderkid on Merseyside. The reason Jürgen Klopp has given the Scouse defender more responsibility is because of his renowned intricate passing range and his capacity for expert precision ball strikes.

Alexander-Arnold has consistently been urged to act like Liverpool’s talisman and a true playmaker for the Reds despite his reserved position as a member of a back four. He is one of only three defenders, including former Everton player Leighton Baines and teammate Andy Robertson, to have recorded more than 50 assists in the Premier League’s history at the age of 24, still only 24.

Alexander-Arnold has a knack for hitting whipped deliveries into the penalty area, as evidenced by the fact that over 30% of his assists in England’s top flight have come from dead-ball situations. The majority of set pieces awarded in Liverpool’s favor are managed by him, and the Reds profit from his expert execution.

From those circumstances, the Englishman has also discovered the net on several occasions. He isn’t particularly prone to scoring goals, in large part because of his deeper positioning, but over the course of his career, he has scored 12 times in the Premier League, with seven of those goals coming from set pieces.

In the Premier League, Alexander-Arnold has scored five goals directly from free kicks, with Liverpool typically benefiting from set-pieces in comparison to the typical English team. For instance, Klopp’s team led all teams in goals scored from set pieces last season, and it repeated the feat in both 2018/19 and 2019/20.

Given that baseball and basketball have higher scoring averages than football, for instance, Liverpool has used set pieces as an unconventional means of winning games. Alexander-Arnold has been the team’s most effective set piece taker, followed by Robertson, who also likes to assume control of his fair share of set pieces. However, the Reds might experience a change this year.

Liverpool spent money on Dominik Szoboszlai’s services earlier this summer. The Hungarian captain relocated to Anfield from RB Leipzig and has since been adjusting to life in England. The 22-year-old midfielder is anticipated to make his Premier League debut this weekend.

Liverpool ready to pay £25.9m transfer fee to sign versatile defender - Klopp's wish
After Liverpool triggered a release clause in his contract, Szoboszlai agreed to terms for $76 million (£60 million/€70 million). While he doesn’t play in the same position as Alexander-Arnold, he is renowned for being extremely technical and even refined when he strikes the ball.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, René Mari, who coworked with him when he was a young and promising athlete at Red Bull Salzburg, detailed his qualities.

Under Jürgen Klopp, Trent Alexander-Arnold has dominated Liverpool’s set pieces; however, it now seems that he is facing off against newcomer Dominik Szoboszlai.

Since making his Merseyside debut as a teenage wonderkid, Trent Alexander-Arnold has developed into the best technician at his old club.

The Scouse defender has been given more responsibility by Jürgen Klopp because of his reputation for deft passing ranges and his ability to strike the ball with expert precision.

Despite his reserved position as a member of a back four, Alexander-Arnold has frequently been urged to act like Liverpool’s talisman and a true playmaker for the Reds.

He is one of only three defenders in Premier League history—along with teammate Andy Robertson and former Everton player Leighton Baines—to have more than 50 assists in the league at the age of just 24.

In England’s top division, more than 30% of Alexander-Arnold’s assists have come from dead-ball situations, demonstrating his talent for whipped deliveries into the penalty area.

Because he oversees the majority of set pieces that end up favoring Liverpool, the Reds gain from his superb technique.

The Englishman also discovered the internet several times as a result of those circumstances.

Although his deeper positioning makes him less likely to score goals, he has 12 Premier League goals in the course of his career, including seven off set pieces.

Liverpool typically benefits from set-pieces compared to the typical English team, and Alexander-Arnold has scored five goals in the Premier League straight off free kicks.

For instance, in the 2017–18 season as well as the 2018–19 and 2019–20 seasons, Klopp’s team topped the league in goals scored from set pieces.

Liverpool has used set pieces as an unconventional strategy to win games because football has a lower scoring average than other team sports, like basketball or baseball, for example.

Robertson, who also likes to take control of his fair share of set pieces, has been the team’s second-most effective set piece taker after Alexander-Arnold.
This year, however, the Reds might go through a change.

The services of Dominik Szoboszlai were acquired by Liverpool this summer. After moving to Anfield from RB Leipzig, the 22-year-old midfielder is anticipated to make his Premier League debut this weekend. He’s since been settling into life in England.

Szoboszlai agreed to terms for $76 million (£60 million/€70 million) following Liverpool’s activation of a release clause in his contract.

Unlike Alexander-Arnold, he plays a different position on the field, but he is renowned for his incredibly technical and almost refined ball striking.

In fact, René Mari, who worked with him at Red Bull Salzburg when he was a young, promising athlete, described his characteristics in a recent interview with Sky Sports.

Erik ten Hag faces a problem Liverpool have already solved as PSG offer $55m for Manchester United goal
Liverpool rivals round-up: Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is complaining about the problems his nemesis has already faced in the transfer market.

With just over a month to go until the summer transfer window, Liverpool are fourth of the Premier League’s big six in terms of total spending.

The Reds have so far spent around $122m (£95m/€111m) on deals for Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister and RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai, but their midfield overhaul could still continue with a move to Southampton Romeo Lavia.

It’s Arsenal who have invested the most money to date, breaking the UK transfer record by signing Declan Rice from West Ham for $135m (£105m/€123m) and also spending heavily on Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and Ajax. Jurriën Timber’s takes his spend to around $257m (£200m / €234m)

Spurs are next, albeit far behind at $149m (£116m/€136m), having added Leicester City’s James Maddison and Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario to its ranks and made transfers for Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski permanently.

Manchester United are not too far ahead of Liverpool with $129m (£100m/€117m), moving up the table after recruiting Inter Milan’s Andre Onana this week to add to his earlier attack on Chelsea’s Mason Mount. Chelsea themselves are level with Jurgen Klopp’s side having signed Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, Nicolas Jackson from Villareal and Ângelo from Santos, while three-time winners Manchester City are a distant second at $39m (£39m). ) and 14th in the league at €30m/€35m. ) Mateo Kovačić (Chelsea) his only new purchase to date.

Here, Liverpool.com takes a look at other top teams in the Premier League and across Europe for an overview of what’s going on at other clubs.

PSG offer Manchester United to target Rasmus Højlund
Erik ten Hag faces a problem Liverpool have already solved as PSG offer $55m for Manchester United goal
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Paris Saint-Germain have made a rival bid for Manchester United target Rasmus Højlund.

PSG have made a bid of $55m (£43m/€50m) for the 20-year-old, the same amount Manchester United announced as an upfront payment.

Crucially, the Red Devils are also offering to pay Atalanta an additional $11m (£8.6m/€10m) in surcharges, which should theoretically work in their favour. The PSG options in the number nine option seem a little limited, with Kylian Mbappé, perhaps on the road to the outside and Mauro Icardi will appeal unlikely after the season on loan in Galatasaray. Hugo Ekitiké lets the 21 year old signed by Reims last summer.

Liverpool.com says: Manchester United can win the race for Højlund, but it is not an agreement that will necessarily influence their competitors.

While the Dane of last season scored a laudable 16 goals in 42 performances in all games, it is still quite inexperienced, after playing only 32 games in one of the first five European competitions after transferring the Austrian dress Sturm Graz last summer.

Consequently, it may take some time before it can touch the elite numbers at Old Trafford, and this does not seem the type of signature that Manchester United will make a candidate for the Premier League trophy. Erik ten Hag admits two Man Utd weaknesses
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said his side need to improve their pressing and finishing after losing 2-0 to Real Madrid in pre-season.

An early goal from Jude Bellingham and a late strike from Joselu condemned United to defeat at NRG Stadium in Houston as Ten Hag’s men completed the third of their four pre-season games in the United States.

Manchester United, starting with Marcus Rashford at the helm, failed to score despite shooting 15 times throughout the match, as many as Real.

Ten Hag says his side need to be more precise in front of goal and pressing more effectively and insists the club are working hard to bring in a new striker as there are no experienced pros with the No.9 available for him.
    moment.

“Two things: pressing can be better from the start and score,” he said of MEN. “And I think we need more players who can play one-on-one.

“We had the situations: it was Rashford, Scott McTominay, [Alejandro] Garnacho, you have to score. It’s always hard to see, but we work 24/7. We do a lot at the club, all the power to stay Together.

“We never talk about players under contract with another club. We have our goals, we are there 24/7, we are there, with the right player to sign with us.”

Liverpool.com says: When it comes to firepower, Liverpool are certainly not worried. The Reds have lost Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané in the last 12 months, but the arrivals of Luis Díaz Darwin Núñez and Cody Gakpo have left Klopp with a host of potentially explosive options.

Ten Hag, on the other hand, are in dire need of options after Cristiano Ronaldo’s unceremonious departure last year and Wout Weghorst’s memorable loan spell came to an end. This of course explains the persecution of Højlund mentioned above.

In terms of pressing, Liverpool have been at the center of this transfer window, as the signing of Szoboszlai best exemplifies. The Hungarian is a specialist in the field, finishing sixth in the Bundesliga last season with high turnovers (via The Analyst) and has bolstered the team’s first line of defence.

Szoboszlai ought to be back in training in a week or less, if Klopp’s timeline is correct (and we all know he never underestimates the severity of a knock). To play Leicester City on Sunday and Bayern Munich the following Wednesday, Liverpool will travel to Asia. These games are a part of the prestigious Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy tournament.

Prior to Szoboszlai’s injury, Liverpool was already lacking in midfielders. While Thiago is still working through his recovery from surgery, Stefan Bajcetic recently resumed training after a lengthy injury layoff. As they wait for agreements with clubs in Saudi Arabia to be finalized, fugitive midfielders Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have returned to the UK.

Dominik Szobozlai’s acquisition has caused Liverpool to become somewhat less active in the transfer market.

After signing his £60 million transfer contract, the Hungarian became Jurgen Klopp’s second addition of the summer transfer window. He entered Anfield after fellow midfielder Alexis Mac Allister in what is anticipated to be a very busy summer for the Reds as they look to get back on track.

Before the transfer window closes, a number of players could conceivably move. Take a look at the most recent rumors and deals that have been officially announced in the last 24 hours from Anfield.

    Reds “prepare” for Mbappe offer.

Throughout the transfer period, Kylian Mbappe has continued to garner the most attention. Due to his exclusion from his team’s preseason squad, the Frenchman is anticipated to leave Parc des Princes this summer.

Mbappe has been linked to Liverpool for a while, and it now seems like they are prepared to make a serious effort to sign him this summer. The Reds are putting together a “monumental bid,” according to Spanish media outlet AS.

According to rumors, PSG would prefer to lose Mbappe this summer for a large sum of money than to lose him for nothing next summer. Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia is rumored to be interested in signing the World Cup champion.

    Anfield’s striker leaves.

Liverpool has allowed one of their current attacking options to leave the team amid their interest in Mbappe. Layton Stewart, a 20-year-old forward, is now able to sign a long-term contract with Preston North End.

He previously joined the Reds when he was seven years old and has since signed a three-year contract at Deepdale. Stewart eventually made one senior Liverpool appearance, against Derby County in the Carabao Cup last year.

At Preston, he will meet up with an old friend. Additionally, earlier this summer, Calvin Ramsay signed a season-long loan agreement to play for the Championship team.

    Henderson receives Saudi medical treatment.

Club captain Jordan Henderson is another player who is starting to move in the direction of the exit. The midfielder’s transfer to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq is almost complete.

He and the Saudi team have reached an agreement on a contract, and the two clubs have also agreed on a fee of £12 million. Now it seems as though a relocation will soon be completed.

Henderson, who underwent preliminary medical exams in Manchester on Friday, according to the Liverpool Echo, is anticipated to meet up with his new teammates during their Croatian training camp this summer.
