With the new season approaching, Liverpool is looking to bolster their midfield.

Liverpool’s 2022–23 season began with disappointment after they were eliminated from the Premier League and the Champions League on the final day of each competition. This goal has been actively pursued by the club, who have already signed two excellent midfielders and have spent more than £100 million for the first time since 2018. Romeo Lavia, a highly sought-after defensive midfielder, is a potential addition. However, Liverpool may not be finished just yet as they aim to possibly complete a midfield trio of signings.

Liverpool has entered the race to sign Romeo Lavia in an effort to strengthen their already significantly improved midfield. Arsenal and Chelsea in London have shown a lot of interest in the Southampton player, but neither club seems eager to sign the 19-year-old. Liverpool seem to be the front-runner for Lavia’s services, with Chelsea concentrating on trying to sign Moises Caicedo and Arsenal anticipating to pay a nine-figure transfer fee for Englishman Declan Rice.

The Belgian, who would be the perfect addition to round out a trio of midfielders expected to join Anfield, is reportedly valued at about £50 million by the Saints, according to The Daily Mail. With the goal of reviving an ailing and struggling midfield, Klopp entered this transfer window, and he has succeeded in doing just that.

Lavia would give Liverpool a defensively-minded midfielder to complete an incredibly talented group with the acquisitions of attack-minded midfielders Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35 million and recently-signed Hungarian Dominik Szoboszli from RB Leipzig for £60 million.

According to The Daily Mail, the Reds reportedly had a £51 million offer for the Uruguayan rejected earlier this month. However, a potential deal for the midfielder could benefit Los Blancos, who are aware of the enormous sum spent to sign Jude Bellingham and may need more money to pursue PSG’s Kylian Mbappe. According to the Catalan publication El Nacional, Liverpool is reportedly preparing to submit a new proposal worth approximately £77 million. With two LaLiga championships and a Champions League trophy under his belt at the young age of 24, Valverde would bring a wealth of winning experience. Jurgen Klopp will appreciate his versatility in the middle of the field, and his 12 goals this season from that area are an added bonus.

Federico Chiesa of Juventus and Italy is reportedly a target for Liverpool, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. According to the Italian media outlet, Chiesa does not get along well with Juve manager Max Allegri and finds it difficult to play in his 3-5-2 formation. The 25-year-old’s contract negotiations are currently stalled, but it seems like a move away from Turin may actually be a possibility, especially if a major Premier League club approaches. Liverpool now enters the picture, showing interest in the winger. Chiesa is valued at €40m by the Reds, who are unwilling to pay more than that, but Juventus want €60m for him. The loss of Roberto Firmino has left a void in Liverpool’s forward line, but with back-up options like Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota, the Reds won’t feel pressured to spend more money on Chiesa than they want to.

The Athletic reports that Tonali’s transfer is the largest ever for an Italian player and the largest sale Milan has ever made in their history. Tonali is regarded as a future captain of the Azzurri and a midfielder who could elevate Newcastle to the next level, according to the Athletic.

Even though Tonali is one of the best midfielders in Europe, Liverpool supporters won’t be overly envious of Newcastle’s acquisition given that the Reds already made their own marquee signing this week in the form of Dominik Szoboszlai.

Liverpool should not feel envious of Newcastle after they sign Tonali.

Even though Liverpool is still looking for a new midfielder, fans shouldn’t be envious of Newcastle for acquiring Tonali, who could easily start for most Premier League clubs.

According to reports, Liverpool are planning a shock offer for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in selling Rhys Williams this summer, with a number of clubs already targeting the 22-year-old centre-back.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are open to sacking the England youth international as he made no progress in his memorable 2019-20 season, with Aberdeen interested in signing Williams on a permanent deal this summer.

Williams has been loaned out in the Championship for the past two seasons but hasn’t made a big name for himself since he arrived on the scene three years ago. Scotland is now a likely destination for the Preston-born defender.

Former Liverpool defender Max Thompson, the Reds’ youngest player at 36, has died aged 66.

Legendary manager Bill Shankly handed the youngster his debut against Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 1973-74 season aged 17 years and 129 days, in Scotland’s iconic final season in charge.

In a tribute, the club said: “Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of former player Max Thompson.
“Thompson, once the youngest ever player for the Reds, has sadly passed away at the age of 66.

The Liverpool-born defender joined the club as a trainee before securing a professional contract.
Aged 17 years and 129 days, Thompson got his senior debut from Bill Shankly with a start in the last game of the 1973-74 season, a 1-1 draw away to Tottenham Hotspur.

“That club record would stand until May 2010 when Jack Robinson appeared in a Premier League match for Hull City aged 16.”

Phillips has been linked to Man United

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to stun Pep Guardiola with a transfer offer for midfielder Kalvin Phillips. According to Spanish publication Fichajes, United boss Erik ten Haag has given the green light to the transfer and is confident he can get the most out of the England star who has struggled to establish himself at Man City.

A fee of around £35m was reportedly paid, which is £10m less than Man City sent to Leeds last summer. The England international was linked with a move to Liverpool in April.

According to Teamtalk (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool recently attempted to sign Real Madrid and Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde.

The report also reveals that both Valverde and Madrid are unwilling to part ways this summer. He is also interested in Chelsea and Manchester City.

Let’s face it, it sounds like an unrealistic move all day long. The possibility that Valverde will cost Liverpool a lot of money to retire is as high as anything. Besides, it wouldn’t make sense for Los Blancos

sell one of their best young players.

To be honest, there’s no doubt that the Uruguayan is a good player. He’s a versatile midfielder who can also play on the wing, just like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did for the Reds when he was fit and playing well.

Characteristically, Valverde is exactly the type of player who would make a great addition to the Liverpool squad. It’s no surprise, however, that the 24-year-old has no interest in leaving Madrid. Why would you unless there is something wrong between him and the manager?

However, as a Liverpool fan, let’s not dwell too much on that and focus on what’s possible this summer. For a club of our size, targeting players for a club like Real Madrid shouldn’t be a bad idea, but Valverde just doesn’t seem impossible.

After Alexis Mac Allister was snapped up a few days ago, things have calmed down for the Reds. Is it the calm before the storm or is the club grappling with a potentially tight budget?

could do with two more additions in midfield and get a defender or two too. The right players need to be bought so the manager knows what happens when new signings join the squad.
