After VAR intervened, Curtis Jones was given a straight red card for a late challenge on Yves Bissouma. Gary Neville disagreed with the decision, though.

Gary Neville criticized the decision to give Curtis Jones a straight red card during Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham, saying a yellow card would have been “fine.”.

Jones, 22, was initially warned for a late tackle on Yves Bissouma.
Referee Simon Hooper was urged by VAR to reevaluate the challenge, though. Replays revealed that Jones grazed the top of the ball when he lunged in and then caught Bissouma on the bottom of the shin.

Hooper changed his mind and decided to dismiss Jones, leaving Liverpool with 10 men for more than an hour.
Hooper had a look at the pitch-side VAR monitor before making this decision.
Neville, a former Manchester United defender, disagrees and said the decision will “ruin” the game.

Neville said, “No, I know when you’re doing someone on purpose, I’ve done myself in the past, and he’s not doing that,” in an interview with Sky Sports.
In reality, his foot slips over the top of the ball as he [the VAR] shows the referee the end motion.

After a contentious decision "ruins" Tottenham vs Liverpool, Gary Neville fumes at VAR.

“It’s never a red card, but he’ll get one if it ends the match.” Though his foot slips on top of the ball, I believe he has generally gone in sincere.

Although I’m not certain—I never am these days—and I’m not as confident in my knowledge of football as I once was, I don’t believe he entered the situation with malice.

“If you watch the last portion of it slowly, you’ll realize that it’s a red card.
The speed at which these players enter tackles must be observed in full motion at high speed; Bissouma and Curtis Jones are both flying in.
However, given the ambiguity surrounding such a situation, I thought a yellow would have worked well.

Tottenham took the lead thanks to Son Heung-min, and after a strong start, Liverpool’s momentum in the game was dampened by the red card.

Son scored from close range after Richarlison squared the ball to him after James Maddison’s pin-point pass found him in the left channel.

Cody Gakpo’s close-range goal in extra time helped Liverpool tie the game despite playing with a man down. Liverpool responded well to falling behind in the first half. The Dutchman had a great finish as he spun around and slammed the ball past Vicario into the goal.

Liverpool transfer news as $109 million ‘talks held’ and a release clause for Jürgen Klopp’s option surface https://footballtopstar.com/liverpool-transfer-news-as-109-million-talks-held-and-a-release-clause-for-jurgen-klopps-option-surface/
Mauricio Pochettino makes 11-man decision ahead of Chelsea start with hint at key line-up

Mauricio Pochettino has named his first XI since becoming Chelsea manager and it contains some surprising names.

Before he can officially work as the third permanent head coach under Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital, he has other tasks to complete.

He will take charge of the Soccer Aid World XI at Old Trafford on Sunday for the 2023 edition of the annual charity event and timed his performance perfectly. It will take him nearly three weeks before he starts working at his new club.

In an ironic duel, Pochettino takes on Chelsea women’s manager Emma Hayes, who is in charge of the England team. However, it was Pochettino’s lineup that caught the most attention, as fans were already quick to analyze his style.

With former England and Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster in net, Wrexham’s new star has a pretty solid defense ahead of him. Heather O’Reilly starts with Sam Claflin, Roberto Carlos and Mo Gilligan in defense.

Noah Beck is in midfield alongside Patrice Evra, Maise Adam and Usain Bolt, while Francesco Totti and Hernan Crespo complete the squad.

While it’s still a bit early to make too many decisions about Pochettino’s tactical choices at Chelsea, his decision to seemingly go for a 4-4-2 in his England debut is something that’s already puzzled fans.

The team he will face was chosen by Stormzy and Hayes. The starting XI for England consists of: David James; Gary Neville, Gary Cahill, Bugzy Malone, Tom Hiddleston; Joel Corry, Jill Scott, Jack Wilshere; Tom Grennan, Liam Payne, Jermain Defoe.

Pochettino not only wants to put on a great show for fans watching and play for a great cause by raising money for UNICEF, but he will soon decide to field a completely different team in a different environment.

He will be tasked with selling up to 15 players this summer in a bid to massively whittle down his bloated roster ahead of pre-season and next month’s US tour.

Chelsea are also on the hunt for big-name signings in key areas of the squad, including goal, midfield and attack.

It’s a tall order for Pochettino, but he’ll be happy to take it on, having enjoyed similar success in a similar position at Tottenham almost a decade ago.

Chelsea are hoping that he can not only achieve this, but in Soccer Aid they can gain potential comedic confidence.

The Belgian striker is believed to be keen to stay at San Siro next season – either on another loan or a permanent transfer.

Chelsea could consider using Lukaku in negotiations over some of Inter’s star players of interest to Pochettino – Andre Onana, Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez have been linked with moves to west London.

All of that will likely be discussed when the two clubs meet this month – while Trevoh Chalobah and Loftus-Cheek could also feature in a potential swap deal for some Inter players.

Chelsea hope that once the Champions League final is over and Inter’s season is over, they can kick off their summer transfer business and try to meet Pochettino’s demands with the new arrivals.
