5 Key Moments from Liverpool 3-1 Leicester – I-boo Konate and the Controversial ‘Offside’

With fog thickening over Anfield, the conditions made it difficult to fully follow

With fog thickening over Anfield, the conditions made it difficult to fully follow the action, so off-the-ball incidents were likely missed by many. Nevertheless, we’ve highlighted five key moments from Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Leicester.

Jordan Ayew’s unexpected early goal might have cast some doubt on the outcome for around 40 minutes, but Liverpool’s dominance was never in question as they kept Leicester under constant pressure.

With 19 shots to Leicester’s four, Arne Slot’s side controlled the match and earned their goals through Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and, of course, Mo Salah.

Where Mo Salah Searched for His Goal

It took 82 minutes for Salah to get on the scoresheet against Leicester — quite a shock — but when he finally scored, it was with remarkable precision. What made his goal even more impressive was the way he fooled the defenders, looking away from the goal and instead glancing across the pitch as he curled the ball around Victor Kristiansen and past goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

While this may not have been one of Salah’s most iconic goals, it certainly ranked among the most clinically executed finishes we’ve seen in a long time.

Boos or Cheers for Ibrahima Konate?

This moment might not have been caught on camera, but it certainly amused us: Ibrahima Konate, who was in attendance while injured, appeared to approach the fans, expecting cheers, only to be greeted by boos aimed at the Leicester goalkeeper. Stolarczyk, making his Premier League debut, didn’t hesitate to stretch the rules and waste time while the game was level, frustrating the Liverpool fans, who responded with boos. Konate, however, mistakenly thought the boos were directed at him, possibly misinterpreting them as chants of “Ibou,” as we’ve often heard this season.

    Waves for Isaac

On Christmas Day, Liverpool shared a video of six-year-old Isaac Kearney meeting Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah. Isaac, a young fan with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, made several friends on his visit to the training ground, including Arne Slot, who later spotted him in the crowd at the match against Manchester City. At the Leicester game, Slot was delighted to see Isaac again and waved to him when he recognized his young friend in the stands.

    The Curl from Cody Gakpo
While the fog made it hard for some viewers to catch every detail of the game, fans closer to the action had a clearer view. One fan had the perfect vantage point to see Gakpo bend the ball into the far corner to equalize for Liverpool. The angle from which this goal was filmed clearly showcased the amount of curl Gakpo applied to bring the ball back inside the post from outside the line.

    Was This Really Offside?
In the 68th minute, Gakpo thought he had scored his second goal of the night, but after a VAR review lasting nearly four minutes, the goal was ruled out. The decision was based on Darwin Núñez being offside in the buildup when Salah passed the ball across the box. While the footage provided wasn’t definitive, it felt harsh to definitively call it offside. The implementation of semi-automated offsides can’t come soon enough to resolve such debates.

Liverpool vs Leicester: Confirmed squad, predicted lineup, and injury updates for Premier League match

Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley for their Premier League encounter with Leicester on Boxing Day.

Both defenders have been unavailable since the impressive 2-0 Champions League victory over Real Madrid at Anfield on November 27.

Bradley, who filled in well for Trent Alexander-Arnold during that match, picked up a hamstring injury that was initially expected to sideline him for several weeks.

Konate, who also started the game and played the full 90 minutes, was seen limping after the final whistle due to a knee issue sustained from a challenge by Real substitute Endrick.

Like Bradley, Konate’s recovery was expected to take several weeks.

Before Sunday’s thrilling 6-3 win over Tottenham, Liverpool manager Arne Slot provided an update on the pair, saying: “These are the two that are still ‘in the red’, so they don’t train with us at the moment. They are on their way back but they don’t train with the team yet.”

When asked about their potential return, Slot added: “That is, what I’ve said before, quite difficult. We thought, I thought, that [Diogo] Jota would have been back a bit earlier already and sometimes the end stage of rehab takes a bit longer.

“Sometimes they join [training] and then they are like, ‘I’m not completely ready to start yet.’ So, let’s wait and see but we have very good rehab personnel over here and they’ve done some good work already with Alisson [Becker] and a few others.

“The main thing is that if they come back, they are ready to come back and we must not focus on one, two or three days. It’s more important for the long term that they stay fit afterwards.

“Until now they have done really well and hopefully with Conor and Ibou the same thing happens.”

Alexander-Arnold has fully recovered from his hamstring issue and reclaimed his spot at right-back, while Joe Gomez continues to cover for Konate at centre-back alongside captain Virgil van Dijk.

There are no new injury concerns for Liverpool following the dramatic win at Spurs, so a similar lineup is expected for the Boxing Day match against Leicester, who are currently in 17th place, just two points above the relegation zone. Under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Leicester have struggled this season, winning only three of their 17 matches so far, suffering heavy defeats to Newcastle and Wolves.

Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool, sitting at the top of the Premier League, could extend their lead to seven points if they beat Leicester and Chelsea drop points in their home match against Fulham earlier that day. Slot might consider making some changes to keep his squad fresh for what looks like a straightforward game, part of a busy festive period that also includes matches against West Ham and Manchester United, plus a Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham.

Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott, and Darwin Nunez all came off the bench against Tottenham and will be hoping to start against either Leicester or West Ham. Summer signing Federico Chiesa will also be looking to play his first Premier League minutes since September, having featured as a substitute in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Southampton but not being included in the squad for the Tottenham game.

Wataru Endo will also be eager to seize an opportunity, while Jarell Quansah and Kostas Tsimikas provide further options for Slot if he decides to rotate his defensive lineup.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Jota; Nunez

Latest Liverpool injury updates and potential return dates for Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley

Liverpool's injury situation has improved significantly in recent weeks,

Liverpool’s injury situation has improved significantly in recent weeks, with several key players returning since early December. Alisson, Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa, Diogo Jota, and Kostas Tsimikas, all of whom have faced lengthy injury setbacks this season, have all made their comebacks this month.

Despite this progress, head coach Arne Slot is still without a fully fit squad, as both Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate remain sidelined. Here’s the latest on their recoveries:

    Ibrahima Konate
Konate suffered a knee injury in stoppage time during Liverpool’s victory over Real Madrid at the end of November, following a clash with Endrick and Virgil van Dijk. It was initially reported that the French center-back would be out for five to six weeks, ruling him out of Liverpool’s hectic December fixtures.

    Expected return date: January 2025

    Conor Bradley
Bradley’s injury also occurred in the match against Real Madrid, where a strong performance was interrupted by a hamstring issue in the second half. According to The Belfast Telegraph, the Northern Ireland international is also expected to be sidelined for six weeks.

    Expected return date: January 2025

What Slot said about Konate and Bradley’s returns
On December 20, Slot commented: “These are the two that are still ‘in the red’, so they don’t train with us at the moment. They are on their way back but they don’t train with the team yet.”

When asked about their potential return, he added: “That is, what I’ve said before, quite difficult. We thought, I thought, that [Diogo] Jota would have been back a bit earlier already, and sometimes the final stage of rehab takes a bit longer. Sometimes they join [training] and then they are like, ‘I’m not completely ready to start yet.’ So, let’s wait and see but we have very good rehab personnel over here and they’ve done some good work already with Alisson and a few others.”

He concluded: “The main thing is that if they come back, they are ready to come back and we must not focus on one, two, or three days. It’s more important for the long term that they stay fit afterwards. Until now they have done really well and hopefully with Conor and Ibou the same thing happens.”

Liverpool Injury Update and Potential Return Dates for Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate

Liverpool's injury concerns have eased recently

Liverpool’s injury concerns have eased recently with the returns of Alisson, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa. However, several players are still sidelined during one of the busiest periods of the season.

In the past week, Liverpool’s injury situation has improved, with Alisson, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa rejoining Arne Slot’s squad. Alisson made his comeback in the Champions League match against Girona, while Jota came off the bench to secure a draw for the Reds against Fulham on Saturday.

Despite these positive returns, a few players are still recovering, and here’s the latest update on their injuries, along with some suspension details.

    Ibrahima Konate
Konate injured his knee during stoppage time of Liverpool’s win against Real Madrid at the end of November, after a clash with Endrick and Virgil van Dijk. It was initially reported that the French center-back would be sidelined for five to six weeks, missing all of Liverpool’s games in a packed December schedule.

What Slot has said: “They will both (Konate and Conor Bradley) be out for a few weeks. I have said many times before, it’s always difficult to judge how many weeks this exactly is because you can think in the beginning it’ll be like this and then the end stage of an injury process can always differ a bit.” – quote from December 1.

    Expected return date: January 2025

    Conor Bradley
Bradley also picked up an injury in the Madrid game, as his excellent performance was interrupted by a hamstring issue in the second half. The Belfast Telegraph reported shortly after the match that the Northern Ireland international was expected to be out for about six weeks.

What Slot has said: “They will both (Bradley and Ibrahima Konate) be out for a few weeks. I have said many times before, it’s always difficult to judge how many weeks this exactly is because you can think in the beginning it’ll be like this and then the end stage of an injury process can always differ a bit.” – quote from December 1.

    Expected return date: January 2025

    Kostas Tsimikas
Tsimikas hasn’t played for Liverpool since early November due to an ankle injury, but he returned to training last week and could be ready for a return in the coming days.

Possible return date: 18 December vs Southampton or 22 December vs Tottenham

    Andy Robertson

Liverpool's injury concerns have eased recently

Due to Tsimikas’ injury, Robertson has featured in all of Liverpool’s last seven matches across all competitions. However, he will miss the next match after being sent off against Fulham. He will serve his suspension during the Carabao Cup match against Southampton and will be available for the upcoming trip to Spurs.

Expected return date: 22 December vs Tottenham

    Alexis Mac Allister
Mac Allister has missed consecutive matches due to suspensions, first in the Champions League against Girona and then in the Premier League against Fulham. His last appearance was in the 3-3 draw with Newcastle on November 4. He will be well-rested when he returns, likely against Southampton this week.

Expected return date: 18 December vs Southampton

Positive update as Ibrahima Konate returns earlier than expected – LFC journalist

Ibrahima Konate could return to action before the end of the month, with his recovery progressing faster than initially expected.

Konate has been sidelined since injuring his knee during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Real Madrid on November 27, missing the team’s last three matches.

Although it was reported that the injury wasn’t severe, Arne Slot had expressed doubts about Konate’s return before the year ends, along with Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas.

However, there is now optimism that Konate could be back before December finishes, which would be a significant boost for Liverpool.

David Lynch, a journalist covering Liverpool, shared an encouraging update after the 25-year-old returned to the gym without assistance. “He’s not in a knee brace now, so that’s encouraging,” Lynch told Anfield Agenda. “It kind of tallies with what I said, that it’s not quite that five-to-six weeks that was touted. There’s a real hope that he can be back before that. So hopefully back end of December we’ll see him, rather than into January, and what a boost that will be to get him straight back as well.”

Liverpool has five more matches before the end of the month, starting with a home game against Fulham on Saturday. After that, they’ll face Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday, followed by an away match against Tottenham next Sunday. It is likely that Konate will miss all three of these matches.

However, Lynch’s update suggests that the France international could be available during the period between Christmas and New Year, with Liverpool playing Leicester at home on December 26 and West Ham away on December 29.

During Konate’s absence, Slot has preferred Joe Gomez as Virgil van Dijk’s partner, and there is no indication this will change until Konate returns. Despite a mixed performance against Newcastle, Gomez has shown positive signs, meaning there’s less urgency for Konate to come back immediately.

Still, having Konate back before the year’s end would be a major advantage as Liverpool seeks to maintain its excellent form heading into 2025.

Exclusive news: Arsenal and Liverpool tracking Brazilian winger for possible transfer

Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keeping an eye on highly-rated Brazilian winger Gabriel Pec of LA Galaxy, according to sources who spoke with CaughtOffside.

Both clubs, along with several other Premier League teams, have had scouts monitoring Pec, who is emerging as an exciting young prospect.

The 23-year-old has caught attention with his performances in the MLS, leading to interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Wolves, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Napoli.

While Pec is being considered as a potential future target for top clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, it is still uncertain whether they will make a move for him in the near future.

Nevertheless, it is clear that the South American talent is one to watch, and if he continues to impress with his form in the US, top clubs are likely to show interest in signing him.

Could Gabriel Pec be a surprise solution for Arsenal and Liverpool?

Pec could eventually offer something different for Arsenal’s attack, especially with Mikel Arteta facing a shortage of options in that area.

The Gunners often rely heavily on Bukayo Saka to create opportunities up front, but Pec could provide an alternative or even an upgrade on inconsistent players like Gabriel Martinelli. Moreover, loan signing Raheem Sterling is unlikely to remain at the Emirates Stadium beyond this season.

Liverpool, too, might want to explore new attacking options as Mohamed Salah’s contract nears its end, and Diogo Jota has struggled with injuries.

Although the Reds would need a truly exceptional player to replace someone of Salah’s caliber, Pec has the potential to become a key player for a club of Liverpool’s stature in the future.

Fabrizio Romano announces that a key Liverpool player’s contract is ‘nearly finalized’

Liverpool are in the “final stages” of securing a crucial contract extension, although it may not be the one their supporters are anticipating. This extension involves centre-backs Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

Currently, the focus at Anfield is on the expiring contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah, all key figures in Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp and the early days of Arne Slot’s tenure.

Liverpool’s goal is to secure new deals for all three players, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggests that Ibrahima Konate might be the first to sign an extension.

The French defender, 25, whose contract runs until 2026, is in the final stages of discussions with the club. Romano stated on his YouTube channel, “I can say that with Konate the conversation is at the final stages. So agreement almost done, Konate expected to extend his contract at Liverpool.” He added, “The club are very happy with the player. He’s injured now but in general they are very happy with his performances and professionalism.”

Konate has become one of the most dominant centre-backs in the Premier League this season. His solid partnership with Van Dijk has played a key role in Liverpool’s strong early-season form, making news of a new deal a significant boost for the club.

What is the situation with Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah?

Liverpool are in the "final stages" of securing a crucial contract extension

As for Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, and Salah, Alexander-Arnold is reportedly Real Madrid’s top target for the right-back position in 2025. However, a move this winter has been ruled out, with Madrid aiming to strike a pre-contract agreement with the player instead. From January 1, Real Madrid can enter formal negotiations with Alexander-Arnold—unless Liverpool secures a new deal with him first. TEAMtalk understands that while Alexander-Arnold appreciates Real Madrid’s interest, he remains focused on discussions with Liverpool, giving them priority. He will only consider Real Madrid if talks with Liverpool break down.

On Van Dijk, David Ornstein recently reported that Liverpool had made an official offer to the Dutch defender some time ago, but it did not meet his expectations in terms of finances or contract duration. Despite this, the two parties are still in contact, and Liverpool hopes to reach an agreement soon.

Salah has expressed frustration over the delay in finalizing his new deal, openly admitting his disappointment at not receiving an official offer like Van Dijk has. Journalist Rudy Galetti revealed on December 4 that Salah’s preference is to sign a two-year contract, although he would be willing to accept a one-year deal if that’s all Liverpool offers. Galetti also shared that Salah’s “great dream” is to win the Ballon d’Or, and playing for a top European club like Liverpool gives him a better chance than moving to leagues like MLS or the Saudi Pro League. PSG has been linked with Salah, but their president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has distanced the club from pursuing him.

Latest Updates on Liverpool: Gordon, Gravenberch, Kelleher

Liverpool are in the "final stages" of securing a crucial contract extension

In other news, The Daily Mail reported that Liverpool remain interested in signing Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, who impressed in a recent 3-3 draw with the Reds.

Meanwhile, GiveMeSport claims that Alexander-Arnold is no longer the only Liverpool player on Real Madrid’s radar; Ryan Gravenberch, dubbed the “revelation of the season” by Dutch legend Ruud Gullit, is also attracting interest from the Spanish giants. Lastly, TEAMtalk examined five clubs—four in the Premier League—that could be potential destinations for goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who is expected to leave Liverpool next summer.

Liverpool to miss 6 players against Man City as Reds aim for major title boost

Two additional Liverpool players picked up injuries during Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Real Madrid.

Liverpool could be missing six players for their upcoming match with Manchester City after Ibrahima Konate and Conor Bradley both suffered injuries late in Wednesday’s win against Real Madrid.

Konate sustained a knee injury in stoppage time following a collision between teammate Virgil van Dijk and Madrid striker Endrick, and he is expected to be sidelined for five to six weeks.

Bradley, on the other hand, was substituted due to a suspected hamstring strain. While there have been no clear updates on his condition, hamstring injuries are typically managed with caution, making it unlikely he will feature against City this weekend.

The Reds will also continue to be without long-term absentees, including Alisson, Diogo Jota, and Federico Chiesa. Alisson has been absent since early October due to a hamstring issue, while Jota last played on October 20 against Chelsea.

Chiesa has played less than 100 minutes since his arrival at Liverpool, and Slot mentioned earlier this week that he isn’t yet fully fit, as he continues his recovery after transferring from Juventus in the summer.

Liverpool to miss 6 players against Man City as Reds aim for major title boost

Kostas Tsimikas is also reported to have suffered an ankle injury in training, which will keep him out for several weeks.

Should Alisson remain unavailable for the City match, Caoimhin Kelleher will continue as goalkeeper for the Reds, with Bradley and Konate likely to be replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez.

Alexander-Arnold has been dealing with his own hamstring issue recently, missing England’s games during the last international break and Liverpool’s win over Southampton last weekend.

The 26-year-old returned to the squad against Madrid but was an unused substitute, with Gomez stepping in for the injured Bradley late in the match.

Harvey Elliott, still waiting for his first minutes under Slot since August, was also an unused substitute against both Southampton and Madrid after recovering from a foot injury sustained during the September international break.

Liverpool presents proposal to secure pre-contract with defender earning £183,000 per week

    Alphonso Davies

Liverpool, with Michael Edwards at the helm, is undoubtedly already planning for the upcoming season. The Reds have a strong history of effective squad planning and will want to maintain that momentum.

A key strategy for future planning involves targeting players from other top clubs who are nearing the end of their contracts without having renewed. Liverpool is well aware of this, especially with their own trio—Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah—in similar situations.

About a month ago, we reported that Liverpool expressed interest in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, who is currently earning around £183,000 a week and has just nine months left on his contract with the Bundesliga side.

According to Grizz Khan of 90min, Liverpool has made a pre-contract offer to Davies, should he decide to leave Bayern. The Canadian will be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs starting January 1, 2025.

However, the report indicates that despite Liverpool’s keen interest, they are likely to lose out to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have been pursuing Davies for some time, and when they set their sights on a player, they often succeed.

Liverpool has experienced similar disappointments in transfer battles with Madrid, such as with *Aurelien Tchouameni*. Although the Reds will strive to secure Davies, overcoming Real Madrid may prove challenging.

Still, football can be unpredictable, and until Davies officially signs elsewhere, anything is possible. Let’s see how this unfolds.

Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate was taken off during the Reds' 2-1 win against

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate was taken off during the Reds’ 2-1 win against Brighton on Saturday, and coach Arne Slot has provided an update on the defender’s situation.

According to Slot, Konate was experiencing “a lot of pain” before his half-time departure. He had been active in the match but left the field after suffering a heavy fall in the opposition’s penalty area.

Konate received extensive treatment from Liverpool’s medical team and exited with his arm in a makeshift sling made from his shirt. He was replaced by Joe Gomez for the second half.

After the match, Slot commented on Konate’s condition, noting that his reaction prompted the substitution. He stated, “We don’t know yet. He had a lot of pain, but he hasn’t been to the hospital yet – and maybe it is not even necessary to go to the hospital, I don’t know.”

He continued, “It is always difficult to judge an injury in the first hour or first 10 minutes after it happens. Let’s hope he can be with us as soon as possible because he had a big impact on our season until now. But Joe deserved the trust I gave him today because he played outstanding in the second half.”

Slot also expressed his disappointment about Konate’s exit, saying, “It was not only the first half that was a big disappointment, there was also the disappointment that [Konate] had to go off because he has been really good for us the whole season.”

He reassured that there are strong alternatives in that position, mentioning Jarell Quansah and Joe Gomez. He explained, “I took Jarell off five minutes before the end in Brighton because for 20 minutes he was already stretching and I could feel and see that he was tired, which is not so strange because he hasn’t played that much.”

With regard to the second half, Slot added, “Then, with 45 minutes to go, I felt I had to bring someone in that is fitter than Jarell was during the week.”

The 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris has concluded with Man City’s Rodri taking the top honor, but the rankings reveal that Liverpool made a savvy move by signing Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Liverpool experienced a quiet summer transfer window in 2024, marked by significant changes behind the scenes following Jurgen Klopp’s departure. New head coach Arne Slot needed time to evaluate his squad, and with his satisfaction in what he observed, the club added just two players.

The Reds secured Federico Chiesa from Juventus, technically their sole addition for the current season. They also signed Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia in a £29 million deal but loaned him back to the La Liga club.

The Georgian international showcased impressive performances throughout the 2023/24 season, notably during Euro 2024, which attracted interest from various clubs across Europe. However, Liverpool surprised many by acquiring the 24-year-old over the summer.

This move has proven to be a smart investment, as highlighted by the latest Ballon d’Or rankings

£83.5 million star ‘set to join Liverpool as Salah's replacement’

Giorgi Mamardashvili achieved an impressive seventh-place finish in the final standings for the Yachine Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper in the world, which went to Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.

Mamardashvili outperformed Liverpool’s current number one, Alisson, underscoring the Reds’ astute summer signing. Valencia might have demanded a higher price for him in 2025, especially now that he is recognized among the top 10 goalkeepers globally.

Next season will be intriguing to see whether Mamardashvili can claim Alisson’s starting spot at Anfield or if he will need to wait another year before taking over from the Brazilian.

Slot made two adjustments from the team that lost to Nottingham Forest three days prior, substituting Kostas Tsimikas and Cody Gakpo for Andy Robertson and Luis Diaz on the left.

Milan took the lead in the third minute when Christian Pulisic, formerly of Chelsea, slipped past Tsimikas and sent a shot into the bottom corner past Alisson. Tsimikas’s decision to contest the header initially was puzzling.

Liverpool struggled early on but began to find their rhythm, with Mo Salah hitting the crossbar in the 17th minute.

The Reds, dressed in their dark kit, equalized midway through the first half when Ibrahima Konate headed in a Trent Alexander-Arnold free kick from the edge of the box.

Slot introduced Darwin Nunez, but the forward struggled in front of goal. Joe Gomez made his season debut at right back.

Federico Chiesa also made his debut during stoppage time.

Overall, Liverpool showed improvement from their previous game, with notable performances, particularly from Gravenberch in midfield, though there is still room for enhancement.

The win is significant in the new Champions League format, with only the top eight teams avoiding a winter play-off to advance to the latter stages.

Konate performed admirably in his first home game of the season after being added back to the starting lineup against Brentford. His best play was an intercepted header as Kristoffer Ajer appeared to be about to take advantage of a Trent Alexander-Arnold mismatch at the back post.

At 25, Konate is feeling more and more pressure to take the lead and establish herself as Arne Slot’s staple. Nonetheless, he still regards a few guys on the team as role models.

Konate will undoubtedly benefit from watching and learning from his French teammate, Virgil van Dijk, who is one of the best players of the position in history. But following the most recent triumph, he singled out Mohamed Salah for particular recognition.

“This man is insane! Mo is someone I adore,” Konate said to Liverpoolfc.com. “It’s crazy, every season it’s always the same story.”He has a lot of goals, even for the Africa Cup [of Nations]. Really, I have no idea how he manages to do that. I look up to him because I want to be just like him and I see how he works every day.”

Similar to how he won the game against Ipswich, Salah scored the game-winning second goal against Brentford. He appears to be as important to the Slot administration as he was under Jurgen Klopp, though Liverpool will eventually need to work out his contract issues.

Ibrahima Konate names a "crazy" teammate at Liverpool for doing something he finds incomprehensible

According to the club website, Salah averages a goal contribution per Premier League game at Anfield, having scored 93 goals and provided 35 assists in 128 games. The 31-year-old is the epitome of reliability.

According to Liverpool.com, this Liverpool team’s younger players have some of the best role models around. Salah’s unwavering work ethic and persistent desire to better himself may make him the best of them all.

The stats he has achieved since joining Anfield are astounding. Konate is correct when he says that they are insane: even if you discount Salah’s record-breaking 2017–18 season, he still has the most goal involvements of any player in the Premier League since his arrival.

Though it shouldn’t come as a surprise, the start he has made to the new season is really encouraging. Salah doesn’t appear to be a player a year away from a significant drop, which the team should take into account while debating Salah’s contract.
