Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree on next Liverpool's manager after Jurgen Klopp depart

The two think that Xabi Alonso, a former Reds midfielder, might be the person to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is a possibility to return to Anfield, according to Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

After spending five years on Merseyside, the Spaniard began managing Real Madrid’s youth team in 2018. He later managed Real Sociedad’s B team before taking over at German team Bayer Leverkusen more than a year ago.

His team has won nine of their ten Bundesliga games thus far, with their most recent victory coming over Hoffenheim on the road this past weekend, 3-2. Additionally, he led Die Schwarzroten to the Europa League semifinals the previous year and they have won all three of their matches so far in this year’s competition.

    Xabi Alonso

Given that the Reds are also undefeated in Group E, it is possible that Jurgen Klopp and Alonso will reunite during the tournament’s later stages. Klopp is hoping to add the one trophy that has eluded him in his eight years at Anfield.

With his previous contract set to expire in the summer of 2026, Klopp, 56, signed a new deal with Liverpool in 2022, extending his stay until the summer of 2026. Beyond that, though, Alonso, the winner of the Champions League, has been mentioned by both Lineker and Shearer as a possible successor to Klopp in the future.

Shearer stated on the podcast The Rest Is Football: “He’s getting great reviews, isn’t he? He’s had a great start to his managerial and coaching career. If he continues on, it won’t be long until people begin to observe him if they haven’t already, and you never know.”

“I think there’s every chance that Carlo Ancelotti ends up there as manager of a certain Jude Bellingham once he walks away or is pushed out, as is often the case at Real Madrid,” Lineker stated. Furthermore, he may follow (Jurgen) Klopp in the future. You always do with these things, don’t you? Steven Gerrard will always be there.”

Shearer said, “That might all change in a year,” to wrap up the discussion. However, it appears that he will stay at the top for a very long time, doesn’t he?”

Mohamed Salah moving from Liverpool to Saudi Arabia in 2024 is “inevitable,” according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former striker for Aston Villa stated that while Jurgen Klopp won’t be pleased to lose him, it might be “good business” for the Merseysiders.

Monday, October 30, Football Insider reported that despite continued Saudi interest, Liverpool will not sell their 31-year-old top player, Mohamed Salah, in January.

The Saudi Pro League is reportedly working behind the scenes to recruit forward and Man City star Kevin De Bruyne to the Middle East in the summer of 2024, insiders have also told Football Insider.

With 13 games played across all competitions, Salah has recorded 10 goals and four assists to start the 2023–24 campaign in customary fashion.

His alleged £350,000-per-week deal is scheduled to end in June 2025.

Agbonlahor said, “I do see Mo Salah in Saudi Arabia, 100%,” to Ewan Kingsbury of Football Insider.

“He is going to be the player with the biggest salary. It does occur, and I observe it during the summer.

“There will be one year remaining on his contract, and Liverpool will be aware of this and able to find a replacement.”

“I don’t believe Liverpool is motivated by money. With the requested fee, customers will receive anything they want.

Even though Klopp won’t want to part with him, it’s possible that he’ll be granted the money to find a younger replacement.

“Whether Salah’s legs will begin to fail in the upcoming years is unknown. In my opinion, it would be wise for business to let him depart in 2024

  • Andre’s transfer complete and the second signing is Jurgen Klopp’s dream scenario for Liverpool in 2024.

Andre’s transfer complete and the second signing is Jurgen Klopp’s dream scenario for Liverpool in 2024.

    Andre

Liverpool have made a promising start to the 2023/24 season and Jurgen Klopp will be keen to keep going in the right direction
This could mean business in January.

Liverpool are in a good position in the Premier League, advancing to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and ahead of Toulouse, Union SG and LASK to advance to the last 16 of the Europa League. Things are going well for Jurgen Klopp so far this season and there is hope that 2024 will bring plenty of good things.

Liverpool were favorites to win the Carabao Cup, followed by West Ham United at Anfield.
It could be a big week with three big games at home. Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League will either go down in a cup tie.

But that’s exactly what Liverpool want this season.
Whether winning the Premier League is real remains to be seen It certainly feels that way.
But the important thing is that the slump that surrounded United for most of last season has lifted and the outlook is now considerably brighter.

    André Trindade signs

    So what happens then?
Liverpool’s pitch still needs improvement and tweaking in the coming months and Klopp’s side are likely to undergo further adjustments as he continues to develop.
    the signs of Andre Trindade

Alexis McAllister needs an elite midfielder to play up top after Liverpool missed out on Moises Caicedo.

Andre from Fluminense seems like a great choice. The 22-year-old would be a rare find for Liverpool as they are not directly looking for South American players. But Andre is experienced and could give Klopp what he needs to rebuild his midfield.
    the new left center back

    New left-sided center-back

    Jarrell Kwansa

Another key priority for Liverpool in terms of squad renewal is left-back.
It would also be a good idea to bring in a long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk on the left side of the pitch, such as Jarrell Kwansa, who is predominantly left-handed.

It is not yet known where Liverpool’s recruitment team will find this player.
However, if one is on the market and Joel Matip is out of contract, it would be wise to act.
Young talents will take the lead

    Young talents emerge

Quansah will continue to grow and develop and Luke Chambers will be a player to watch behind him. Stefan Vaicetic should not be forgotten when he returns from injury.
On offense, Ben Doak looks to have a big future and Kaide Gordon returns. Then there’s Bobby Clarke and younger talents like Calum Scanlon and Trey Nyoni. Trent Kone-Doherty recently signed his first deal

    Contract decisions made

Mohamed Salah is the obvious one, but there are also Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, both of whom are under contract until 2025.
It seems logical that progress will be made in the coming months before this whole contract situation enters the final year.

Salah continues to prove his worth and shows no signs of slowing down.
Therefore, it will not be an easy task for Salah to re-sign the Egyptian.

As with previous extensions, replacing him makes economic sense as it costs much more than extending the contract.

Peter Crouch claimed Luis Diaz is worth £100m after his performance against Everton.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the pundit praised the Colombia international’s performance on Saturday, with Diaz scoring the decisive penalty to give Liverpool a 2-0 win at Anfield.
    Crouch: “I love Diaz.
He took home an extra £100m as a rookie last season due to injuries.
“When he comes in, things change.”

With Diaz missing much of last season through injury, the South American’s return to fitness was a welcome return for Liverpool.

The striker has established himself as a key player for the Reds on the transfer front and Diaz’s performance on Saturday highlighted his qualities.

The €100 million price tag may be high, but there’s no denying that Liverpool signed Diaz and the winger has already recouped his entire transfer fee.

Diaz is looking to take his game to new heights at Liverpool.

Diaz’s return to fitness is a shame for the Clique, but he is a new signing for Liverpool and the winger is now looking to take his game to new heights.

The striker has impressed for United this season and Diaz will be looking to lead the Anfield side into the UEFA Champions League and beyond.

Wataru Endo makes brutally honest Liverpool admission as he opens up on summer transfer

Waturo Endo, who moved to Anfield last summer, has spoken about his move to Liverpool and how the deal fell through after three years at Stuttgart.

Endo Waturu admits he was “surprised” by his £16m move to Liverpool in the summer after giving up hope of a move to Stuttgart.

The 30-year-old became Liverpool’s third summer signing in mid-August after Fabinho and Jordan Henderson left for Saudi Arabia.
Endo strengthened Liverpool’s midfield following the departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita earlier this summer, following Alexis McAllister and Dominic Szoboslay through the Anfield gates.

Endo signed a four-year contract on Merseyside and made his debut as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

A week later, he started his first game in Liverpool’s 2–1 win against Newcastle.
Endo appeared in a total of 11 matches for Liverpool and scored a goal against Toulouse in the Europa League.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Endo spoke about his move, saying he never expected to join the Reds.

“I thought there was still a chance to talk to the team,” he said. “I’m not young but all the top teams can afford top youth players but if they can’t sign young players they might need experienced players.”

“I thought the same thing this summer and it happened. I was a little surprised, I really wanted to move, but it was the end of August and I thought, “I can’t go.” I was a little surprised.”

Wataru Endo makes brutally honest Liverpool admission as he opens up on summer transfer

After an impressive debut, Endo’s second game against Newcastle was much more difficult. Liverpool were forced to play over an hour with more than 10 men after Virgil van Dijk’s red card, but prevailed 2-1 thanks to Darwin Nunes’ second-half brace.

Endo, who has played in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart for the past three years, highlighted the key differences between Germany’s top flight and the Premier League.
    “Everything is different.

Physical, technical, speed, etc.” Endo added.
“This is the Premier League. Of course you don’t play many games in the Premier League, but when I played against Newcastle it was a very difficult game for me. The speed is very different.”

Liverpool visit Luton on Sunday looking for a fifth straight win in all competitions.
Ahead of the game, Klopp said in his pre-match press conference: “I’ve heard about [Kenilworth Road] but I haven’t seen it yet.

“It’s an area I’ve never been to before.
I can not wait. I heard the locker room isn’t that big. All I need is a throw and an opponent.
Then here we are. That’s interesting. I like the story.”

Manager want to keep Liverpool loanee despite injury crisis

    Owen Beck

Dundee FC manager Tony Docherty has revealed he will keep Liverpool loanee Owen Beck despite his injury crisis.

Speaking to The Courier, the Scottish Premier League boss said he would prefer the Wales international to stay at Dens Park, although Beck could be recalled.

Liverpool are facing a defensive injury crisis with Andy Robertson out for three months, while Kostas Tsimikas is set to be replaced in this weekend’s derby with Everton.

With Beck performing well on loan, the 21-year-old is rumored to return to Anfield as Robertson’s replacement.
But Docherty wants the defender to stay at Dundee.

The SPL manager said: “Owen is doing extremely well and it’s no wonder internationally recognized people are talking about him.
But he is a very ordinary person and he is very popular here.

“I think he likes playing here, the football team and the camaraderie in the locker room.
We want to keep his feet on the ground and hope he continues to perform.
“That level of sustainability is getting people’s attention.”

Liverpool need to keep Beck out on loan

Beck, a regular in the Scottish Premier League and Wales international, is doing very well in his young football career.
Liverpool will be keen to bring him back to save the game, but we all know the defender will only be exposed to appearances from the bench.

As a result, Liverpool should secure Beck’s loan deal from Dundee, with the defender gaining valuable experience that will go a long way in helping him become one of the best players in the game.

According to sources, Liverpool is targeting Ajax star Devyne Rensch, who can fill a variety of roles.

    Devyne Rensch

Liverpool are tracking versatile Ajax defender Devyne Rensch, sources have told Football Insider.

The Merseysiders are assessing the market for potential right-backs who would fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system and also fit into other defensive roles.

Rensch is believed to be a target for the club’s recruitment team, with Premier League title rivals Arsenal also keeping a close eye on him.

The defender is Ajax’s first-choice right-back and, despite being just 20 years old, has made 101 first-team appearances for the Dutch powerhouse.

He has registered an assist in nine games in all competitions this season, but has missed the last three games through injury.

Rensch only played as a right-back in the 2023/24 season, but his impressive versatility means he can also play as a centre-back, defensive midfielder or left-back.
He also experienced European football at the Johan Cruyff Arena, making a total of 19 appearances in the Champions League and Europa League.

The right-back, who is under contract with Ajax until June 2025, played his first and only senior match with the Netherlands in September 2021.
Ajax are bottom of the Eredivisie with just one win in eight games this season.

Liverpool are looking to strengthen their defense ahead of the January transfer window.
Trent Alexander-Arnold missed three games through injury earlier this season, deputizing for Joe Gomez in the lesser-known right-back role.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are fourth in the Premier League after 10 games, one point behind second-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has long been interested in Nice midfielders Hefren Thuram and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, but those moves could now become complicated.

Liverpool could regret signing Hefren Thuram and Nico Williams, with a move for the in-demand duo set to become more difficult than ever.

Spaniard Williams, 21, is regarded as one of La Liga’s brightest prospects but his club are now demanding a new deal to keep him at the club alongside his older brother Inaki, who is locked out until 2028.
Like Williams, Nisa midfielder Thuram is also attracting attention from Liverpool.

The 22-year-old footballer has entered the international league of France and is attracting the attention of Juventus.

The Italian giants are looking for a replacement for Paul Pogba, who could face an extended retirement from football after testing positive for a banned substance, and believe Thuram could be the perfect replacement.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has long been interested in Nice midfielders Hefren Thuram and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, but those

Thuram is the son of former French footballer Lilian Thuram, a former Juventus defender, and his older brother Marcus plays for domestic rivals Inter.

According to a new report from Calciomercato, Thuram is Juventus’ top transfer target next summer and is Pogba’s de facto replacement at the Bianconeri.

It means Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could regret his decision not to sign the Frenchman this summer.
Turam’s transfer fee could rise due to interest from Juventus and a deal could now become difficult.

Bilbao, meanwhile, have insisted Nico Williams is not going anywhere and is confident of his commitment to the Basque Country’s long-term future.
Club president Jon Uriarte has now spoken about the winger’s future.

“We are calm,” Uriarte told Diario AS about the future of Williams Jr., among other stars.
“We want an attractive project for Nico and other players like Unai Gomes, who extended his contract this week.

We think Nico will find this project attractive and we believe in him.” His family is loyal to athletics, and this is the highlight of his career.
We have nothing to say about any rumours.

Liverpool have missed out on several transfer targets this summer, including Moises Caicedo and Romeo Rabia, who moved to Chelsea, and Sofian Amrabat, who caught Klopp’s eye, at Manchester United.

Pep Lijnders gives four updates on Liverpool’s injury as ‘special’ signing who ‘has everything’ named

    What's been said?

Jurgen Klopp’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders was tasked with leading the press conference ahead of Liverpool’s trip to face Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup.

Liverpool will still be without all but one player who missed the win over Nottingham Forest over the weekend.
Additionally, Curtis Jones is also back after his suspension.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp handed responsibility for the pre-match press conference to his assistant Pep Lijnders, who provided an injury update and the latest news on the situation of Luis Díaz’s parents, kidnapped in Colombia.

Lijnders did not elaborate on the situation with Díaz, but explained that the club was doing everything it could to support the winger in a difficult period. He also praised the force’s response to the incident.

Midfield duo Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić remain absent due to injury, while Conor Bradley is yet to return but Ben Doak is back in training and could potentially be included in the squad of the day against Bournemouth.

    What’s been said?

“Lucho is an incredible player and we knew that,” Lijnders said.
“But then you see him in the building and he’s the person who’s always smiling, so we really care about him.” Now we try to support him as much as possible; many things are out of our control.

    “It’s completely normal.
We hope the authorities find his father and we pray for that. He is one of us and the team responded brilliantly after our goal by holding up their shirt for him so he knows we are there for him.

Not much has changed regarding injuries.
    “We missed Thiago,” Lijnders said.
“I missed him a lot. Imagine our new midfield that people are talking about and you also have Thiago in the middle as a guide. It will take time. He won’t be available. We hope to get him back soon.” Stefan is not available.”

“We see the Ryan of Ajax!” Lijnders said of Gravenberch. “That’s why the cut is so important. A player who doesn’t play a match for two weeks will never develop his confidence. I’m not sure what happened at Bayern, but I don’t play.

He has total confidence here. We knew we had a special player thanks to training. Ryan has everything to be an eight and still gets to the penalty area and shoots.\”

“I told Harvey [Elliott] a few weeks ago that I had never seen him train so well,” Lijnders added. “Now he’s behaving consistently.
He’s acting more like a senior than you might think, he’s got the character to do it.
    He’s making an impact.”

    What does it mean?

For Bournemouth, Liverpool will make many changes. But it would be nice if Doak could be back at some point after his injury, and the number of other players Lijnders spoke about shows the depth of the squad at Anfield these days.

Liverpool icon Robbie Fowler has been sacked by Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsia.

Former Sevilla coach Michel González (48) was replaced despite leading Al Khobar to second place in the league with 8 wins, 6 draws and 1 draw in the league opener. Fowler was named manager of the month last week after recording two wins and a draw in September.

Al Qadsiah’s King’s Cup run ended in September, but it was another positive month for Fowler.

His shock resignation came just days before the team’s top-flight clash with Al Oroba in the Saudi First Division, a level below the Saudi Professional League.

In the first transfer window, Fowler decided to bring in the likes of former Wigan Athletic midfielder Max Power and former Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles.

The move to Saudi Arabia marks Fowler’s fourth managerial role after spells at Muangthong United, Brisbane Roar and East Bengal, a two-year break that ended with his move to the Middle East.

Al Qadsia said on Twitter: “Al Qadsia FC terminate the contract of manager Robbie Fowler.
“I would like to thank the coach for doing his best during the contract period with the team,” he said.

In an interview with the Times last August, Fowler said: “I want to be the best manager I can be and I know people say, ‘I can go anywhere’, but in reality I can’t.

“Nobody in England knows what I did. I wanted to do it right and was generally successful, so I was on my way to getting all the coaching badges and degrees I needed.

I took third place in a competition held in Thailand. In India we had 10 days to prepare, our aim was not to finish bottom but we did and it was a great achievement.

“I would compare it to playing in the Premier League with Accrington Stanley and punching above your weight.
In Australia, the penultimate team climbed to fourth place. English clubs are neither interested nor bothered.
    Maybe I forgot.

“I know people [in Saudi Arabia] want to talk about money, but that doesn’t matter to me.
Of course the money helps and we get paid but the money is less than in India and we are not even in this division [professional league],” he added.

“I’m here not just as a manager, but because I have the opportunity to develop the club significantly.
So when people ask me why I’m here, I say ‘Why not?

Analysis of Liverpool: Dominik Szoboslzai is unexpectedly expelled as the Premier League gap opens

Liverpool analysis - Dominik Szoboslzai surprise banished as Premier League gap opens

Dominik Szoboslzai makes an impression during Liverpool’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

    Szoboszlai unexpectedly banished

It was really a question of time until Dominik Szoboszlai addressed the one issue that was oddly absent from his extraordinarily successful debut at Anfield.

As the Reds attempted to build on the momentum from Diogo Jota’s opening goal, Szoboszlai scored in a characteristically decisive manner ten minutes before halftime.

Following an acceptance of a pass from Jota, the Liverpool midfielder surged into the area for the return pass, sent Mohamed Salah wide, and then pulled the ball back from the byline for Darwin Nunez to score.

Remarkable  Szoboszlai’s first direct assist in a competitive game since joining Liverpool in the summer, which scarcely speaks to the impact he has had on the attacking efforts and tempo of the Reds.

He didn’t have to wait long for his second, albeit somewhat against his will as Forest goalie Matt Turner, playing miles outside of his comfort zone, gave the Hungarian’s straightforward clearance a hard time, making Salah just the third player in Liverpool history to score in the team’s first five home games of the season.

Because of his engine, Szoboszlai was always there in the Premier League and ran as hard in the final minute as he did in the first. In just his first ten Premier League appearances, the 23-year-old has already established himself as a mainstay.

    Mac Allister is still learning.

Liverpool analysis - Dominik Szoboslzai surprise banished as Premier League gap opens

Not everything has been that simple for each summer arrival. However, there is increasing assurance that Alexis Mac Allister is adjusting to both his new role in the club and life at Liverpool.

That assertion was reinforced by a strong performance against a constrained but resilient Nottingham Forest, especially in handling the physical demands of playing at number six.

Even if the Argentine never seems to be fully comfortable in the unfamiliar position, in this instance his perseverance was a great asset, best seen when he took Murillo’s possession to start Liverpool’s counterattack and sent Salah running off.

It was reminiscent of his role in setting up the game-winning second goal in the Reds’ derby victory over Everton the previous weekend. This showed promise for Liverpool’s future when Mac Allister is used more upfield in terms of accuracy and passing vision.

However, he is just one booking away from receiving a Premier League suspension—an absence Klopp is unlikely to be able to afford anytime soon.

Wataru Endo, the defensive midfield prospect in waiting, at least received more first-team playing time in the closing stages, and both Ryan Gravenberch and Harvey Elliott, who came on as a second-half substitute, made valuable contributions.

    Van Dijk quietens doubters

It would be easy to think Virgil van Dijk is done when you hear the commotion emanating from Holland. Thank goodness, Liverpool is not at all associated with such drivel.

Van Dijk, who had been outstanding in the previous weekend’s victory over Everton, once again excelled against an attacking threat from Forest that was, to put it mildly, only capable of forcing one save out of Alisson Becker, and that was only in the last seconds.

Van Dijk is starting to get used to playing in the later phases of his career. He is readjusting his defensive manoeuvres and keeping in mind that his pace is obviously not as quick as it was when he was younger.

Additionally, it made it possible for Liverpool to maintain consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League for the first time this year. As a matter of fact, only Manchester City and Arsenal have allowed less goals in 10 games than the Reds’ defence, which is still under scrutiny.

This season, Klopp’s team has won eight straight games at Anfield in all competitions, which has helped them to stay up with those two teams as well as the early leaders, Tottenham Hotspur.

The differences between Newcastle United, Manchester United, and Chelsea—who are currently six, eight, and eleven points behind Liverpool, respectively—are more fascinating, though. The previous season taught the Reds that these kinds of discrepancies are difficult to overcome.

The parents of Liverpool striker Luis Diaz were kidnapped in Barrancas on Saturday, according to Colombia.

Late Saturday, shocking news broke that Diaz’s parents had been kidnapped from their home country.

Colombia’s Semena channel was the first to report the story, which was later confirmed by authorities.

Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda were kidnapped after the attackers hijacked the vehicle they were in.

The kidnappers arrived on a motorcycle before taking control of the Diaz family’s van on the way back to the Los Olivos area.

The police and military rushed to identify the player’s parents, after which his mother, Cilenis Marulanda, was rescued.

As of this writing, the whereabouts of Diaz’s father, Luis Manuel Diaz, are unknown and the search for the kidnapper is ongoing.

This extremely upsetting news, which raises concerns about the safety of the families of well-known football players, comes just before regional elections take place throughout Colombia.

Jurgen Klopp orders Liverpool scouts to keep an eye on a £100m Chelsea transfer target Jurgen Klopp is weighing up a move for Chelsea transfer target Victor Osimhen and has sent a club scout to keep an eye on the Napoli striker during the international break. The Nigerian star was due to play for his country against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique in the Algarve last week. Osimhen played for an hour against the Saudis before succumbing to a hamstring injury in front of one of Klopp's trusted scouts, according to The Sun. The Reds, along with their Premier League rivals, are considering capitalizing on Osimhen's deteriorating relationship with the reigning Serie A champions. Osimhen's goals led Napoli to a rare Scudetto victory last season but he was left dejected and disheartened after being mocked by his own club on social media following a missed penalty earlier this month. Napoli may be reluctant to sell a player valued at £100 million but Liverpool are already making contingency plans ahead of an expected renewed attempt by Saudi Pro League clubs to sign Mohamed Salah. Liverpool already have a wealth of attacking options and only just over a year ago invested more than £80 million in Darwin Nunez. The Uruguay international has shown glimpses of potential during his Anfield career so far and has earned cult hero status thanks to his energetic and sometimes erratic style. Nunez has scored five goals in all competitions so far this season and also scored for Uruguay in their historic win over Brazil earlier this week. However, the 24-year-old is considered a work in progress, with former Liverpool striker Michael Owen saying he needs "a lot of coaching" after a wayward performance against Union St. Gilloise earlier this month. Speaking on TNT Sports, Owen said: “It's either a lack of confidence, a lack of ability or a lack of concentration, but in theory most professional football players should be able to finish it. “Nothing he does really surprises me, and I mean, he does great things and then terrible things, he has so many holes in his game and I think he has the raw material to be a player high level, but he needs a lot of coaching” and maybe a little more experience. Meanwhile, Chelsea are also monitoring Osimhen's situation as they themselves have problems in front of goal. Summer signing Christopher Nkunku is expected to be out until January with a knee injury, leaving Mauricio Pochettino to rely on Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja, who recently returned from a long break

As of right now, it is unknown if Diaz will play in Sunday afternoon’s Liverpool vs. Nottingham Forest match.

It would make sense, though, and be anticipated, if the 26-year-old were to receive compassionate leave.

    Club statement:

Liverpool Football Club have confirmed that they are aware of the situation of Luis Diaz’s family in Colombia.

We sincerely hope that this issue will be resolved quickly and safely.
“In the meantime, the welfare of our players remains our top priority.”

The Premier League match kicks off at 14:00 (GMT) at Anfield and Diaz is likely to start.
Diaz is considered Colombia’s most important player at the moment, putting pressure on 43 goalkeepers during his international break.

So far this season, he has appeared in 9 out of 11 games for Liverpool, scoring 3 goals and providing 1 assist

This week’s Blood Red column looks at a famous night for Liverpool’s Academy and argues why success bursting from behind those closed doors must now become the norm at Anfield

It was no doubt a morning full of smiles and back patting at Liverpool’s Kirkby Academy on Friday.

The spring in the step of all the coaches will have been noticeable after an evening of first-team action that saw as many of seven of their graduates play a part in a resounding European win.

It might not have been the Champions League and Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse are certainly not a continental heavyweight, but the pride will have been fulsome across the Academy departments after a 5-1 demolition moved the senior Reds to within touching distance of knockout stage involvement.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold in possession of the captain’s armband and Curtis Jones continuing his excellent form of recent months, Jurgen Klopp was also able to name Caoimhin Kelleher in goal and senior debutant Luke Chambers at left-back.

Throw in Calum Scanlon, James McConnell and Jarell Quansah from the bench and it completed a famous night for those who have watched the rise of all seven up close and personal in the recent years and months at the club’s youth base.

And had Bobby Clark and Ben Doak been fit and available the pair might have brought the overall tally up to nine on the night. Even Harvey Elliott briefly turned out for the Under-21s after his own move from Fulham in 2019 for added Academy sheen.

This is what the club are working so hard to achieve behind the scenes, away from the unflinching glare of the first-team fortunes. The aim to produce players capable of being ready for life as a Liverpool senior is one that is never truly complete, but Thursday night was undoubtedly a memorable milestone on the journey.

With the competition at the sharp end of the game now stronger than ever, Liverpool are, rightly or wrongly, not able to match the same sorts of sums as some of their main rivals as consistently in the transfer market. Without being paupers, the club still need to work smarter to unearth players of sufficient quality to shine at Anfield and the work undertaken by Head of Academy Recruitment Matt Newberry in recent years has been exceptional.

Newberry’s remit has generally been to ensure it is Liverpool who are signing the very best youngsters across the Britain and Ireland and the recent history points to a department who are now, more often than not, getting it right.

Since the end of 2020, Liverpool have been able to bring the likes of Doak, Clark and now Scanlon into their senior ranks at various points and the former is now undoubtedly considered a first-team player having broken through across the 12 months.

Had Kaide Gordon not cruelly been out injured for over a year himself, the former Derby County winger will have most certainly built on his own early promise of 2022 when he started in a Carabao Cup semi-final and scored in the FA Cup.

Jurgen Klopp has found the perfect figurehead for hidden Liverpool masterplan

Newberry and the team made sure they moved quickly to secure Stefan Bajcetic to a Liverpool contract at the end of 2020 to beat New Year legislation that changed how the signing of youngsters from overseas worked due to England’s decision to leave the European Union. With 19 senior appearances during a breakout term last time out, the move that saw them fend off Manchester United to sign Bajcetic from Celta Vigo appears to have been an inspired one.

Doak’s own path is currently being forged with eight senior appearances under his belt, while Clark, the son of former Newcastle midfielder Lee, has been able to claim two of his own under Klopp.

With six appearances this term, Quansah feels like the next cab off the rank and the England Under-21 international has grown in stature since the club took the decision not to add to their centre-back ranks in the summer transfer window. After a loan spell at Bristol Rovers in the second half of last season, he is now poised for more games at Anfield as Klopp shuffles his options across four competitions.

With Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup to come next week, Quansah could be in line for another run-out. He’s been one of the quiet success stories of the early season for the Reds.

It must be stressed that such an occasion like Thursday night would not be possible without a manager like Klopp, whose commitment in youth prospects is unwavering. It’s seven years this week since vice-captain Alexander-Arnold made his senior debut and he has become one of the most creative and pioneering full-backs of the modern era during that time, while winning every top level trophy available. None of that would have been possible without the trust and belief of his Liverpool manager.

But for those now making their way to the fringes to the first team under Klopp, Alexander-Arnold should represent the posterboy for how it should be done. Under his manager’s careful watch he has gone from being a young hopeful to a Champions League and Premier League winner who will one day move from vice captain to outright skipper of the club itself.

Liverpool agree £44m deal for attacking talent - who will be available on a free next summer: Report

Liverpool can win the competition by signing a player whose contract expires in 2024.

Liverpool may have the most potent attacking options in the Premier League, but that won’t stop them from expanding in January.

It’s fair to say there is no shortage of quality up front, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s options including Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunes, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
But Liverpool will not be satisfied with what they have and could be on the verge of meeting the release clause of one of Europe’s most exciting talents.

Liverpool are set to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao in January with a £44million release clause added to his current contract, according to 90min.

However, the Spanish winger’s current contract with Athletic Bilbao expires in the summer of 2024, meaning Liverpool could reach a pre-contract agreement with him in January.
If United want him immediately, they will have to meet his release clause.

Liverpool agree £44m deal for attacking talent - who will be available on a free next summer: Report

Athletic Bilbao are trying hard to keep Williams in the Basque Country but are offering him a new long-term contract to keep him at the club.
The club is confident of maintaining this despite massive parties traveling across Europe.

“We feel calm about it,” John Uriarte said.
“We believe he will be renewed and stay with us, and that will happen.

“We want a compelling project and we’re confident that Nico Williams will be part of it for many years to come.”

However, the 21-year-old is yet to commit and will keep his options open for the crucial January transfer window.

In addition to Liverpool, Barcelona and Aston Villa are also interested.
So if the club want to sign him on a free transfer or for the aforementioned £44m, quick action is essential.

Williams has provided four assists in seven La Liga games so far this season and is valued at £35m by Transfermarkt.

The Liverpool dressing room’s verdict on Jurgen Klopp’s rebuild during summer window

The Liverpool dressing room’s verdict on Jurgen Klopp's rebuild during summer window

Liverpool signed players such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch this summer to remind Manchester City and Arsenal of their title credentials.

Joel Matip believes Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool 2.0 has evolved into a different style – but the old mentality remains as strong as ever.

The defender, who was Klopp’s second signing at Anfield when he signed on a pre-contract eight years ago, believes his character – which is the manager’s trademark – can produce trophies again. The Reds have not won a major trophy since the 2022 FA Cup.

Speaking about Liverpool’s new look after a complete midfield reboot this summer, the veteran centre-back said: “It’s my eighth season (at Anfield) and the manager has tried to adapt our style during my time here .”

“It’s not the same football we played six or seven years ago, so he’s adapting.” But he still tries to do it his way and I think it works quite well.
All the new players have adapted well.
Overall, our start to the season isn’t that bad.

“But performance-wise, we’re not exactly where we want to be in the last 90-plus minutes.
In the end, we’ve turned things around a lot and it’s good to know we still have the quality to do that.”

For Matip, the new look of football, as Liverpool have evolved their passing style under Klopp, has already made an impression.
Speaking about new signings Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, he said: “Dom and Macca played almost all the time and did so brilliantly.

The Liverpool dressing room’s verdict on Jurgen Klopp's rebuild during summer window

“You can see that both playing with the ball and against the ball their adaptation has been fantastic – they have never really looked new here.”

The defender also believes Klopp’s other summer midfield signings, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch, have already shown promising signs despite being signed at the end of the transfer window with little time to adapt.

“Wataru and Ryan arrived later, but they have already shown that they can help us too,” he explained to the club’s official website.
“All the new players have done a fantastic job so far and I’m really looking forward to seeing them play.”

And he believes there is a real chance of glory this season with Liverpool already showing signs of battle on four fronts, including keeping pace with champions Manchester City in the title race.
“We have four competitions ahead of us and we want to be as successful as possible in each of them,” he explained.

“We want to give everything, but no one knows what will happen in the end.
We are just focusing on our next game and working hard to do the best we can there. This is my eighth season at Liverpool and I have always tried to do my best for the team.
When I am needed, I want to be there and show my quality.

Liverpool: Reds star, who left club for £0, now surpasses Szoboszlai

The former Liverpool icon is performing well in his new surroundings after leaving Anfield on a free transfer…

Liverpool moved a number of players away from Anfield in the summer transfer window, with the old guard phased out by Jurgen Klopp to bring new talents such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch into the building.

James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and others have all been let go by Klopp in his search for new, fresh players, with Fabinho and Henderson opting for a move to Saudi Arabia.
The latter joined Al-Ettifaq with former teammate Steven Gerrard, who will now work in the Middle East.

A third departure from Liverpool would also join the mega-bucks of the Saudi Pro League. Roberto Firmino ended his eight-year relationship with the Reds to join Al-Ahli, later linking up with former Premier League players Ryad Mahrez and Allan Saint-Maximin.
    .
How much did Liverpool sign Roberto Firmino for?

Recruited by Brendan Rodgers for £21.3 million in the 2015/16 summer transfer window – Klopp only joined the Reds in October – Firmino has become an integral part of Liverpool and a key player in the success that the German coach brought to Anfield.

In his first season for the club after leaving Hoffenheim, he scored a total of 49 goals for the Bundesliga club before Liverpool poached the Brazilian.
He scored ten goals and became Liverpool’s top scorer in the league.

He would go on to score double the number of goals for the Reds over the next three seasons.
His best season in a Liverpool shirt came in the 2017/18 season – the Brazilian center forward scored 15 goals and laid the foundations of an unstoppable top-three team.

Firmino – along with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane – wreaked havoc on elite defenses for several seasons, terrifying Premier League defenders and scoring an incredible 338 goals between them.
However, while Liverpool won the coveted Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 season, Firmino only scored nine goals.

The Brazilian’s emotional final match at Anfield showed just how much the Liverpool masses had idolized the striker.
He scored in the semi-final against Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw, with the striker visibly celebrating emotionally.

With 362 appearances for Liverpool – all mainly during Klopp’s tenure – Firmino was described as a Liverpool legend by pundits and fans alike when he left on a free transfer.

Even Liverpool striker Ian Rush described Firmino as the “skillest number nine Liverpool have ever had” following his move to Saudi Arabia, a glowing compliment from the Welshman, who also wore the same number.

How is Firmino doing in Saudi Arabia?

Firmino came straight into Al-Ahli’s lineup, having been named captain of his new Saudi side before a ball had even been kicked.

He has so far scored three goals in ten appearances for his new employers in the Middle East.
All three of these goals came against Al-Hazem on his debut, his second of the match, assisted by Ryad Mahrez.

He has also been altruistic towards Al-Ahli so far.
He assisted two more goals and one of those assists recently helped his Saudi team win 1-0 against Al-Okhdood. Franck Kessie took advantage with a last-minute winner.

Early years at Al-Ahli suggest Firmino will not treat this move as a holiday as he approaches retirement.
Rather, it’s an opportunity to become a star again after leaving Liverpool behind.
So far, he has scored more goals and assists than even Szoboszlai in a Reds shirt – the always impressive Hungarian midfielder has only scored twice this season without notching an assist.

But Firmino’s time with Klopp’s side is over and Liverpool fans will now be closely watching how the Brazilian performs in Saudi Arabia, hoping that their former icon excels in his new surroundings.
