Marcelo Pitaluga had a difficult experience in Ireland, playing in just seven games, and his loan period was terminated after less than six months.
In January, the 21-year-old completed his transfer to St Patrick’s Athletic, a team where Vitezslav Jaros, a custodian for the Reds, succeeded in 2021.
But while Jaros would win them trophies, Pitaluga found it difficult to hone his technique and confidence, and after making too many mistakes, he had no chance of getting better on the pitch.
The young goalkeeper’s loan agreement was ended early, as revealed by St Pat’s new manager Stephen Kenny on Friday. He stated, “We said goodbye to Marcelo, a great guy and a good career ahead of him, I think.”
The Brazilian rejoins Liverpool fewer than six months after joining the Irish team, where he was supposed to stay until November (their season runs from February to November).
Pitaluga did start the first four league games for St Pat’s this season, but he would only play in a cup game again after a disastrous performance in a 3-1 loss to Waterford.
After spending 2022–2023 on loan at eighth-tier team Macclesfield, Pitaluga found it difficult to settle in. Liverpool will now look to bolster his confidence throughout pre-season.
He could have a chance with Liverpool the next season because he can play in the Premier League in a homegrown position, but it wouldn’t be shocking to see another loan agreement in place.
Prior to this, Pitaluga was a constant in Liverpool’s first team training, assisting coaches John Achterberg, Jack Robinson, and Claudio Taffarel in addition to his fellow countryman Alisson.
After working with the United States at Copa America, Arne Slot named 33-year-old Fabian Otte as the new goalkeeping coach, replacing the departures of Achterberg and Robinson from the team.

RB Leipzig is interested in Liverpool midfielder as clubs are looking for summer transfer
The most recent transfer rumours from Liverpool indicate that 21-year-old Tyler Morton is drawing attention from across the continent for the summer.
According to reports, RB Leipzig and other European teams are interested in signing Tyler Morton, a midfield player for Liverpool, on a permanent summer transfer.
Morton, 21, a Wirral native, joined the Reds academy at the age of seven and appeared in nine first-team games under Jurgen Klopp. The last was in March 2022 and as roads into a regular starting berth are often restricted at Anfield, he has exploited Championship loans to get the majority of his senior experience to far.
His first term away from the club was with Blackburn Rovers, turning out 46 times for the Lancashire club, then last season he enjoyed playing a crucial position in the engine room of Liam Rosenior’s Hull City side, who nearly lost out on the play-offs. The Liverpool loanee’s achievements were rewarded when he scooped up the division’s young player of the month award in December.
Under new head coach Arne Slot, Morton is scheduled to return to Merseyside for preseason training. However, The Times reports that he may be traded soon after, as many prominent teams are reportedly interested in signing him to a long-term contract this summer.
Leading the charge is RB Leipzig, who have experience doing business with Anfield executives. The two teams worked out a £60 million deal for Dominik Szoboszlai last summer, and then they had a less than ideal loan experience with Fabio Carvalho.
Along with unidentified Premier League rivals, the article claims clubs “the calibre of Sevilla, Feyenoord, Eintracht Frankfurt” are also interested in the midfield player.
It is reported ‘nearly every’ Championship club would like to take Morton on loan for the season ahead also, yet it is now the player’s wish to advance his career at the next level. He last renewed his Liverpool contract in January 2023, and his exit is believed to hinge on the club’s evaluation of valuation, Slot’s perceptions once pre-season training is begun and lastly Morton’s own plans.
Many Liverpool fans will be hoping to get their first glimpse of the impact the club’s new signings can make as preseason for the club begins in earnest.
