Liverpool wants to replace Wataru Endo, and they intend to sign a “marquee midfield star” this summer.

The captain of Japan was an unexpected addition to Liverpool’s roster in the summer of 2016. The Reds lost out on Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, so they made the £16 million move from Stuttgart.

Even though his form declined towards the conclusion of the season, Endo quickly became into a fan favourite with some outstanding performances over the winter break after a sluggish start to life on Merseyside.

The 31-year-old showed to be excellent value for the money and contributed to Liverpool’s competitiveness throughout the previous campaign. His presence also enabled Alexis Mac Allister to play a more forward role.

To lessen the pressure on Endo for the upcoming campaign, the Reds are already planning to hire a new defensive midfield player this summer.

Liverpool is searching for a replacement Wataru endo.

Football Insider claims that Liverpool’s executives have only ever considered Endo as a stopgap measure to address their holding midfield problems in the wake of Fabinho’s deterioration and eventual departure.

With “plans now in place to sign a marquee new midfield star” during the summer transfer window, the Reds are still in the hunt for a new No. 6.

It is said that during the next few months, finding a new defensive midfield player is “chief among their plans,” with Endo anticipated to have a more supporting role during Slot’s initial season at Anfield.

Endo, who wore a Liverpool shirt forty-three times last season, has already featured for the Reds more than was anticipated at the start of the season.

It makes sense to look for a new defensive-minded midfielder, especially since Arne Slot, the new head coach, wants to use a 4-2-3-1 formation and Mac Allister is significantly superior in a more advanced role.

After his long-term injury, Liverpool does, of course, have youthful Stefan Bajcetic at their disposal, but the team will be keen to relieve pressure on the 19-year-old Spaniard.

Joao Gomes was reportedly Richard Hughes’ objective, according to Anfield Watch, and Ederson and Teun Koopmeiners of Atalanta have also been linked to Merseyside moves.

According to other sources, Liverpool is making finding a new central defender and winger their top priorities during the summer transfer window, which is predicted to be a busy time.
