Express Sport keeps you up to date with the latest transfer stories and confirmed offers from across the Premier League and beyond, with the summer window just three weeks away.

The opening weekend of the Premier League season may be over, but clubs are still working hard to secure deals in the remaining three weeks of the summer transfer window. Chelsea and Liverpool shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and the two sides battled off the field as well, with Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp desperate to secure their best goals.

Manchester United have already done most of their business with the three signings of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund, but Erik ten Hag is not done after approving the departures of Fred and Anthony Elanga. The Dutchman could sign two more new faces before the deadline, with a centre-back and a defensive midfielder on his shortlist. Arsenal may also be tempted to enter the transfer market despite already spending more than £200m this summer, with Mikel Arteta refusing to rule out further arrivals following a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

And Tottenham Hotspur now have 18 days to find a suitable replacement for Harry Kane following his successful £100m move to Bayern Munich, with Ange Postecoglou seeing improvement following a 2-2 draw at Brentford. With injuries and departures affecting all 20 teams, there should be a lot of spending in the closing weeks of the period.

Chelsea would bring in a £170million pair

Transfer news: Chelsea win £170m battle Liverpool strike £60m contract, Man Utd deal
Chelsea are on the verge of completing a British record transfer to acquire Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115m and could finalize the deal today.

The Blues finally agreed a fee with the Seagulls late Sunday night, with the 21-year-old undergoing a medical today having already agreed personal terms on an eight-year contract. And West London are far from done with the move to Southampton star Romeo Lavia in a £55m deal, as Mauricio Pochettino has promised to strengthen the squad.

The 19-year-old is also wanted by Liverpool, but Chelsea moved quickly to reach a deal to blow the Reds out of the water.

    Caicedo completes Chelsea medical
Chelsea are one step closer to completing a record £115m transfer to the UK for Moises Caicedo.

The Brighton star underwent his medical at the Blues’ Cobham training ground this morning, as reported by Sky Sports News, after the two clubs reached an agreement over a record deal.

The 21-year-old Caicedo signs an eight-year contract with an option for another year. Chelsea are closing in on the £35million signing

Chelsea are reportedly closest to signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace

Transfer news: Chelsea win £170m battle Liverpool strike £60m contract, Man Utd deal
The 21-year-old has emerged as a target for both the Blues and Manchester City after a fantastic season last season, scoring twice and providing 11 assists for his teammates.

He is said to have a £35m release clause in his contract and, according to France’s Sports Zone, Olise has accepted Chelsea’s contract offer.

However, the West London club will have to improve their offer after Palace rejected a second bid for the French Under-21 squad.

    Lavia joins Chelsea

Romeo Lavia has decided to go to Chelsea this summer, reports The Athletic.

The Blues are now in talks with Southampton to take over the Belgian playmaker’s services, with a fee of around £50m plus add-ons expected to seal the deal. Liverpool had previously made offers for Lavia, but Chelsea managed to snatch another goal from the clutches of Jurgen Klopp, having recently persuaded Moises Caicedo not to go to Anfield.

United registers interest in alternative Amrabat
Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Everton star Amadou Onana this summer.

This was reported by the Belgian international Sky Sports

is selected as a target, but they have yet to formally bid for his services.

The Red Devils are desperate to bolster their midfield ranks this summer, although they will need to spend around £60m to sign Onana.

Man Utd could delay Greenwood decision

Transfer news: Chelsea win £170m battle Liverpool strike £60m contract, Man Utd deal
Manchester United could once again delay announcing Mason Greenwood’s future as the club continues to ponder its decision. The 21-year-old has not played competitively since his arrest 20 months ago, with the striker suspended as the club launched its own internal investigation before the charges were dropped by prosecution.

Greenwood would be informed of the club’s decision for tonight’s game against Wolves.

However, according to reports, the decision has been delayed and Greenwood may now be forced to wait until the summer transfer window closes on 1 September to find out his fate.

    Man Utd ends verbal agreement

Manchester United are moving up the timetable for Benjamin Pavard after reaching a verbal agreement with Bayern Munich to move to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has been identified as a replacement for Harry Maguire, who appears set to join West Ham in a £30m deal. According to reports from Germany, an opening bid from United for Pavard was rejected by Bayern on Sunday, but the two clubs are in talks over a transfer fee.

And while talks continue, Pavard has given the green light to join the Red Devils, according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

Liverpool agree £60m transfer fee for Lavia

Transfer news: Chelsea win £170m battle Liverpool strike £60m contract, Man Utd deal
Liverpool have agreed a £60m transfer fee for Romeo Lavia with Southampton as the Reds try to recover from disappointment over Moises Caicedo’s absence.

The 19-year-old has been on their radar for several months and after three refused offers, Jurgen Klopp was finally able to get his man.

However, the Guardian reports that Liverpool still have some work to do to cross the finish line. Once again they will have to convince the player to join them rather than Chelsea – and that will be worrying after Caicedo’s disapproval.

Liverpool draw attention to PSV star

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Ibrahim Sangare has emerged as a potential target for Liverpool following the absence of Moises Caicedo.

Jurgen Klopp could also be turned down in the race for Romeo Lavia now that Chelsea have agreed a £55m fee with Southampton, and the Reds are making contingency plans with Sangare on their list.

Former footballer Kiki Musampa, brother of Sangare’s agent, said four clubs are interested in the 25-year-old, including the Merseyside shirt.

“There are big clubs interested, like Bayern Munich,” Musampa told ESPN.nl. “Ibrahim is also on the list at Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, but he’s not a priority there yet. Nottingham Forest had already made an offer, but it wasn’t enough.”

Chelsea transfer news: Blues have more than one reason to beat Manchester City over signing of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise as Mauricio Pochettino plan emerges

Since Reece James clinched the league title in 2018/19, taking the captaincy at Wigan as an 18-year-old loanee on his first venture into senior football, just nine other teenagers have reached 3,000 minutes in a 46-match season in Division Two.

James’s ascent to Chelsea came a year later alongside Mason Mount – one of nine others – as Trevoh Chalobah progressed from youth loan perennial to first team player two seasons later. Ian Maatsen has since been one of five players to achieve such a feat after 2019/20.

He is now vying for a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s senior squad. Other names popping up include Alex Scott – set for a £25m+ Premier League transfer from Bristol City – and Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp, who now plays regular top-flight matches. For Blues fans, there’s another one that fits the bill and is gaining more and more attention. Michael Olise of Crystal Palace.

Olise was a Cobham player herself and let go at the age of 14, just like Declan Rice was. Olise is now an established Premier League star, attracting interest from clubs already there and competing for European places. At 21, he is now one of the most sought after players in his role.

Olise is a left-handed right winger, something Chelsea certainly know a lot about, having signed four in the last 12 months and lost to development team Tudor Mendel-Idowu to a free and currently owned Hakim Ziyech. Olise is strongly attached to the club. He is a player who reflects many of Ziyech’s positive qualities with a high number of crosses and attacks from the right flank. He can fall back on his bad left peg and visit teammates in the park. His defensive abilities are also among the best for wingers, ranking in the top 15 percent for tackled, interceptions and blocks on FBREF.

Essentially, he’s a bit of a gem and certainly one who continues to impress. Since Olise arrives early, it feels like he’s been there for a while. At this point, he has 8,500 league minutes to his name, scoring 11 goals but providing 29 assists for his work.

Chelsea have 'magical' transfer chance as Christopher Nkunku's dream partner emerges for $44mFar from being a performance machine, Olise’s game has style and substance, which at 18 made him the 10th top scorer of the 2020/21 season in the Championship. The next youngest player in the top ten was five years his senior. He is now waiting for the chance to prove he can do like James at Chelsea.

The Blues are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Olise and that makes perfect sense. You want to find a player who can play on the right flank and also take on the No.10 role. Olise fits the bill and with a £35m ($44m) release clause, the young Frenchman is as cheap as it gets for the relative quality.

Although it is understood that Chelsea will go beyond the clause of his contract to agree better payment terms with Palace, it is still a low figure for a player who has openly displayed his Premier League prowess for two years. Considering Pochettino’s track record of improving not only young players but forwards as well, it’s a promising idea.

Christopher Nkunku, 25, is already able to switch roles up front and act as a striker himself. When his eye for production combines with Olise’s velvety play, it could be one of the most exciting collaborations out there. Despite a relatively low tally of just four league goals in his 43 appearances, Olise’s creative moves are top notch.

“Michael is a special talent,” Palace team-mate Joel Ward said of him earlier this year, showing the respect with which he is held. “The world is his oyster and he’s getting better and better from game to game, so I think he will reach new heights and raise the bar. If he continues like this, he will continue with special things. “They [Olise and teammate Eberechi Eze] make my life a little bit easier when I can just give them the ball and they do their magic!”

Chelsea have 'magical' transfer chance as Christopher Nkunku's dream partner emerges for $44m
The concern is that Manchester City are also expressing interest and preparing to lose Riyad Mahrez which would free up a vacancy in the squad. At Chelsea, the gap is less. Noni Madueke, a 21-year-old left-handed right-winger, was signed in January for £35m. Diego Moreira and Angelo Gabriel are promising players who are currently being tested in pre-season and Raheem Sterling has also been selected to play for this team in America so far.

That’s definitely one thing that could stand in their way, another could be his recent injury while playing for the French U21s in the European Championships. Olise suffered a blow with a hamstring injury for a year and is set to miss the start of the 2023/24 season. “We know after his injury that it will be some time for him to get back to fitness,” revealed manager Roy Hodgson. “It was a serious injury that required surgery.

“At the moment we are hoping that the rehabilitation is going well and to have him back soon. But we certainly won’t see him for a while.”

Chelsea have had a torrid time with injuries over the past couple of years and apart from this recent setback, hardly need another player to be a flight risk for the new season other than Olise’s record. In what was already his fifth senior career, he was an integral part of the Palace and Reading teams.

That problem aside, Chelsea have a chance to make a smart signing in a key area and it only makes sense in the world.

Liverpool could encounter an unexpected Levi Colwill problem. As Chelsea turns the tables on Jörg Schmadtke

Liverpool could encounter an unexpected Levi Colwill problem. As Chelsea turns the tables on Jörg Schmadtke
Liverpool may have thought they had the upper hand in the race for Levi Colwill, but the landscape is very different now to earlier summer.

Liverpool reportedly pushed hard to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, but the midfielder opted instead for arch-rivals Manchester United.

According to The Athletic, the Reds were willing to pay Mount a salary at the same ballpark (at least $321,000/£250,000/€292,000 a week with bonuses) as United, and made an offer to do so.

Eventually, the club had no choice but to move on to other targets and were able to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for almost the same fee of $76m (£60m/€70m).

It was somewhat surprising that Liverpool even went after Mount from the start, not because he wouldn’t be a good fit for Jürgen Klopp’s side, but because they would normally consider a player from a Premier League rival off-limits.

Yes, he had just one year left on his contract, but it’s telling that Liverpool haven’t signed a Chelsea player on a permanent basis since Daniel Sturridge in 2012. And it’s also fair to say that Mount was a far more important figure for the Blues .

But on the way to the window, Liverpool knew Chelsea would be in a weak position. The Times reported that the Blues would need a “fire sale” to ensure they could meet financial fair play rules in the face of a record $770m (£600m/€700m) outlay under Todd Boehly and two losing seasons, partly the result of the sanctions imposed on the club in the last mob of the Roman Abramovich era.

Furthermore, Chelsea had an added incentive to sell academy graduates like Mount as they could count the transfers as pure profit on his books.

But less than a month into the window, which only opened on June 14, the club allayed their concerns with a masterful series of deals totaling $242m (£189m/£221m euros).

As the $156 million reality surfaces, Liverpool’s summer transfer spending might not be over. https://footballtopstar.com/as-the-156-million-reality-surfaces-liverpools-summer-transfer-spending-might-not-be-over/
The rather sudden rise to prominence in the Saudi Pro League has benefited them, with Kalidou Koulibaly and Édouard Mendy taking a total of $46m (£36m/€42m) from their respective moves to Al-Hilal and Al-Ahli, but like us, it’s also where they’ve secured hugely competitive fees for young stars like Kai Havertz (US$83m/£65m/€76m) and Mount.

Liverpool still have a strong interest in one of Chelsea’s England campaigners – centre-back Levi Colwill (according to David Lynch/The Redmen TV) – but now it’s the Reds who are in a weaker negotiating position due to restrictions regulations.

Liverpool were only able to name 24 players instead of 25 to their Premier League squad last season as they could not meet their self-imposed quota of eight players and have since removed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner from that list already reduced.

Curtis Jones could fill one of the spots but previous Liverpool signings – Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister – failed to solve the problem.

In short, it is important, although not essential, that the club bring a local or a young person under the age of 22 to their next move.

It’s a safe bet that rival clubs are aware of this predicament and willing to capitalize on Liverpool’s new weakness by demanding service after the club slipped to fifth place. Since only release clauses have been activated so far, this issue is still open.

Chelsea are already reluctant to sell Colwill. The Guardian have reported they have no plans to sack the defender after rejecting a $39million bid from Brighton. Instead, it is hoped to tie him to a new long-term contract and end the speculation.

But even if he were to turn down a new contract because he sees no chance in the first team, and Chelsea are at least willing to consider approaches, it will be a very difficult negotiation for Liverpool.

Sporting director and chief negotiator Jörg Schmadtke should know that it would be a big challenge to reach an acceptable agreement.

Arsenal and Liverpool receive a £85m transfer boost with Kylian Mbappe’s future in spotlight

Arsenal and Liverpool receive a £85m transfer boost with Kylian Mbappe's future in spotlight
Arsenal and Liverpool could boost their transfer hopes with Kylian Mbappe.

Arsenal and Liverpool could agree a surprise £85million deal for Federico Valverde or Aurelien Tchouameni, while Real Madrid are hoping to raise funds to buy Kylian Mbappe. According to reports in the Spanish media, Los Blancos are ready to sell one of the midfielders this summer.

Madrid are desperate to finally make the long-awaited transfer of French star Mbappé. They are aware that they could finally have a chance to assert themselves in the coming months as the striker is likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe’s contract with PSG is just one year old and it is widely reported that he is interested in leaving the club once his deal expires. However, the Parisians don’t want to lose their best player for nothing and want to recoup at least some of the £165m they paid Monaco in 2017.

It has been claimed that Madrid are making a huge offer for Mbappe. However, they may have to sell one of their biggest stars which could mean a big boost for Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to Spanish journalist Juan Ignacio G-Ochoa, the La Liga giants will make Valverde and Tchouameni available for around £68-85m.

Arsenal and Liverpool receive a £85m transfer boost with Kylian Mbappe's future in spotlight
Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with the duo. Speaking to Radio Marca about Real’s deal, the journalist said: “They will make a very big investment for Kylian. They could sell Valverde or Tchouameni and bring in 80-100 million euros if an offer comes along.

While a £68-85m outlay for either club would eat up much of both clubs’ remaining budgets, signing either player would complete their respective rejuvenation. in the middle of the field.

Meanwhile, Mbappe has hinted at another move after claiming a career should be ‘selfish’ and stressing he was ‘never satisfied’. Speaking to L’Equipe, the 24-year-old said: “I push my own limits first. People don’t really like it when they say that, but a career is selfish, it’s the yours is what you leave behind.”

“Actually, I’m always dissatisfied, so I’m never impressed with what I do. It’s already the first key to understanding myself, because in everything I do, I tell myself that I can do it again and better.”

Liverpool are on the right side of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules

With the summer transfer window well and truly in full swing, the staggering sums being paid in the Premier League to sign new players seem unstoppable.

Arsenal will soon make Declan Rice the most expensive English signing in the Premier League, with the West Ham United midfielder expected to complete a £105m move to London.

Elsewhere there has been significant spending from the likes of Manchester United, who spent £60m to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea, and Newcastle United spent £55m to bring Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tyneside.

The question of staying under the radar of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules runs deeper at some clubs than others.

Under P&S rules, clubs could lose £5million a year or £35million if backed by secure funding (i.e. firm commitment by owners or co-ownership, where owners’ loans are not sufficient).

It is being monitored over a three-year period, meaning a total of £105m could be lost over those three years. Failure to comply with the rules can lead to a variety of sanctions being imposed on the club, from fines to possible point deductions.

Due to the significant financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Premier League has allowed the 2019/20 and 2020/21 periods to be combined and valued as an average of the two.

As the $156 million reality surfaces, Liverpool's summer transfer spending might not be over.
Chelsea’s huge transfer spending during the first two transfer windows of the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital scheme, which has seen over £600m in transfer fees, means some serious cuts are needed this summer, with artists from the the likes of Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and Kai Havertz all emerge from the exit door at Stamford Bridge.

Some of these outflows occurred in time to be accounted for before the end of the fiscal year on June 30, while others won’t be visible until the 2023/24 accounting period.

This means there will likely be scrutiny of spending from the London side, although they will argue they are making the right choices and some of the deals will be amortized over up to nine years. – a gap, which is now closed by UEFA.

It was already an important summer break for Liverpool.

Two midfielders have joined Alexis Mac Allister (£35m from Brighton & Hove Albion) and Dominik Szoboszlai (£60m from RB Leipzig), taking the spending already to £95m. It’s possible the spend will approach or even exceed the £150m mark by the start of the season.

For Liverpool, the focus has long been not on whether or not it can escape the rigorous scrutiny of P&S regulations, but on how many deals will affect the results of a football club that owns the one of the strongest records in European football. This is largely supported by the financial approach it takes compared to some of its competitors.

But how much leeway must Liverpool spend without getting unwanted knocks on the door from the Premier League’s watchdogs of profitability and sustainability?

In terms of knowing the exact P&S position of Premier League clubs at the moment it is nearly impossible to crack as clubs are now in new financial cycles for 2023/24 and accounts for 2022/23 are not due until they are made public in late 2023, early 2024.

However, looking at the 2021/22 accounts gives a pretty good indication of where the clubs have gone this summer.

Figures presented by football finance expert Swiss Ramble show the Reds posted an operating loss of £75m over the three-year reporting period. Although a significant figure on the face of it, only Brentford, Burnley, Wolves and Tottenham Hotspur fared better, with Chelsea the worst performers with an operating loss of £552m.

As the $156 million reality surfaces, Liverpool's summer transfer spending might not be over.
For Chelsea, meanwhile, £269m in profit from player sales helped recover from the previous record figure, with Liverpool sixth-best player with £106m in profit from player sales on the period.

Next, the net interest payable by Premier League clubs, namely interest on bond borrowings and refinancings, was assessed.

While Spurs actually made an operating profit of £5m over the three years, net interest payments for the North London side amounted to £106m linked to funding deals of the construction of the stadium.

Manchester United came second on this list with £91m. This sum was linked to the Glazer family’s leveraged takeover of the Old Trafford team in 2005. Liverpool’s place on this list was 11th at £10m.

Putting all of the above together, plus any gains from property sales, just four Premier League clubs reported pre-tax profits over the three-year reporting period. Brentford were top performers with £45m, followed by Burnley with £40m, Wolves with £26m and Liverpool with £24m.

The team that fared worst is the side with the biggest P&S headache in the Premier League right now, Everton, with the Toffees losing £287m. Of the so-called ‘big six’, three (Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea) were in the bottom five.

Despite heavy losses for some clubs, the main elements of this affect P&S regulation. Premier League P&S rules allow deductions for infrastructure investment, women’s football, youth development, community investment and depreciation of fixed assets (physical assets such as stadiums).

In the case of Spurs, the fall in value (£169m) due to the investment in the new stadium was by far the largest in the Premier League. Liverpool were about halfway there at £30million.

Liverpool’s allowable deductions for all of the above were £73million, the seventh highest in the Premier League but the lowest of any so-called ‘Big Six’.

Swiss Ramble’s analysis showed that, taking into account all factors, including the deduction of losses directly attributable to COVID, nine clubs were profitable under P&S regulations during the three-year period under review.

This gives an indication of the leeway clubs have in this new season, although some clubs looking at negative positions, such as Arsenal (loss of £7m), are boosted by a return to profit-making nature.

of the Champions League. to positively change their position in the future, as well as all cost-saving measures taken during the financial year just ended.

In Liverpool’s case, the Reds are negotiating a profit of £141m under P&S rules, the second-highest profit in the Premier League, behind only Spurs, who are at £231m, largely due to the amount raised by could be deducted from their position Investment in the stadium is the main reason for the negative financial impact.

Compared to their other ‘Big Six’ rivals, Manchester United are in the dark at £28m, Manchester City have plenty of room at £109m, while Chelsea still have work to do to reverse its loss of £131 million during the period in relation to the P&S rules.

However, it is a position where the profit from player sales will help significantly, especially since the sale of Mount to United and the departure of Loftus-Cheek to AC Milan are counted as pure profit because this are products of the academy. For other sales, you only see profit above book value.

However, losses of up to £105million would be allowed for some clubs based on the latest available financial information, including Everton and Chelsea, who are given such leeway. However, this is due to the fact that the clubs benefit from secure financing (irrevocable commitment of the owners / equity financing).

In the case of Liverpool, they would be entitled to a loss of £15m (£156m wiggle room on addition and valuation under P&S rules) over that period, based on information financial statements for the three-year period covered until the end of the financial year in May 2022.

because the owners did not have to make such a commitment to support the expenses in this way and therefore did not respond. The same goes for Manchester United and Arsenal (allowed £15m) and Manchester City (allowed £30m).

Bottom line, Liverpool have little to worry about potentially breaching P&S rules this summer, even if they have to keep spending big before the new season starts. However, for some of their rivals, the math will be more of a headache.

  • Liverpool needs a transfer favor worth £10 million from a team that is highly unlikely to grant it.

Liverpool needs a transfer favor worth £10 million from a team that is highly unlikely to grant it.

Liverpool needs a transfer favor worth £10 million from a team that is highly unlikely to grant it.
Liverpool has already been active in the transfer market this summer and may add to their roster before the start of the upcoming Premier League season.

Romeo Lavia has been linked to Liverpool this summer as manager Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his midfield after a disappointing campaign the previous time around. The Saints are reportedly willing to pay £50 million for the ace, but the Reds are reportedly only willing to negotiate for £40 million. However, given that they have already lost a large number of their players to the Merseyside giants in the past, Southampton may flatly decline to do Liverpool a £10 million favor.

Last year, criticism of Liverpool’s midfield was relentless as Fabinho, Thiago, and Jordan Henderson all struggled to reach their peak performances.

By signing Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig and Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer, Klopp has already begun to address some of his midfield problems. Lavia might end up being Klopp’s third acquisition of a brilliant midfielder.

Beginning this week, Football Insider reported that Liverpool and Southampton were still in negotiations over the 19-year-old player and that they were £10 million short of the Saints’ asking price. The Hampshire club might not see any justification for aiding their former Premier League rivals.

Liverpool needs a transfer favor worth £10 million from a team that is highly unlikely to grant it.

Virgil van Dijk, the Reds’ record signing, moved from St. Mary’s Stadium to Anfield for £75 million at the beginning of 2018.

Liverpool has previously raided Southampton for players on numerous occasions. In just two years, from 2014 to 2016, the north west club had already acquired Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, and Sadio Mane from the Saints. In 2019, the club even returned to the market to sign Danny Ings.

All of those players were household names for Southampton, and the loss of them weakened the squad considerably. Although Southampton managed to keep the aces coming in for a while, the team ultimately crashed and burned and found it difficult to compete in the Premier League. Additionally, they were demoted to the Championship last season after finishing last in the top-flight standings.

It’s funny how football can turn around and bite those who play it. Lavia, who played 34 times for Southampton last season after joining from Manchester City last summer, may force Liverpool to pay the full £50 million in exchange.

Lavia has many fans; in fact, Chelsea and Arsenal are both interested in signing him. And the Saints are certain that they can get top dollar for him in any case.

Mason Mount just proved why Man United still can’t match Liverpool and FSG transfer trick

Mason Mount just proved why Man United still can’t match Liverpool and FSG transfer trick
While other clubs have made a habit of dragging out transfer stories, Liverpool have raised the bar in negotiations and continue to do so now with Jörg Schmadtke.

When it comes to handling transfer deals, few clubs can match Liverpool.
Fans might disagree with that statement, especially after last year’s disappointing window resulted in a trophyless season and failed Champions League qualification. But when it comes to securing a player’s signature, the Reds are not shy about doing so.

We’ve seen it more than once lately. Once Liverpool are interested it usually doesn’t take long to get their man and, much to the delight of the fans, usually results in one of the Reds’ rivals being blown out of the water.

In January 2022, with Tottenham eyeing Luis Díaz, Liverpool stepped in to snatch him from under Spurs’ noses (according to TalkSport).

The Reds repeated the trick a few months later, moving quickly to secure Darwin Núñez and beat Manchester United (via the Underground), and the Red Devils were soon given another transfer lesson when Cody Gakpo moved to Anfield (according to GOAL )

Much of the credit for these deals should go to former sporting directors Michael Edwards and Julian Ward. The pair have raised the bar for the new club in charge and, judging by Jörg Schmadtke’s first deal, the German will pick up where he left off. The arrival of Dominik Szoboszlai came as a surprise.

Just a few weeks ago, the Hungarian was little more than a passing mention in the plethora of midfielders linked to a move to Anfield. While he’s been defended several times on this site, it seemed like Szoboszlai wasn’t really on the radar.

Of course, on this occasion the Reds had no choice but to act quickly to meet the deadline of Szoboszlai’s release clause.

That said, you can certainly imagine a certain Old Trafford club making a lot more of the situation before having to negotiate a much higher fee. Finally, United have only just confirmed the signing of Mason Mount, although the transfer was in the works long before Liverpool signed Szoboszlai.

And it’s not like the Reds don’t have competition for Szoboszlai’s signature. Newcastle have shown strong interest (according to Football Insider) and were perhaps seen as favorites before Liverpool arrived.

Of course, there is still work for Schmadtke to do this summer and in the end he will be judged not only by Liverpool’s next signings but also by how well they and Szoboszlai fare next season.

Still, the German may have already shown why he was chosen by the FSG by repeating Edwards and Ward’s tricks during their time at the club. And that could well be more bad news for rivals Liverpool.

Mason Mount, once wanted by Liverpool, has revealed his decision to join Manchester United this summer

Mason Mount has explained why he would rather move to Manchester United than Liverpool this summer.
United confirmed the signing of Mount from Chelsea on Wednesday.

This is Erik ten Hag’s first signing this summer in a deal initially valued at £55m, with possible surcharges of £5m.

The England international has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford which runs until the summer of 2028 with an option for a further year. Mount’s move to Manchester ends an 18-year spell at Chelsea, during which he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool were known as admirers of the player who, aged 24 and qualifying as a local player, fitted the profile needed at both Fenway Sports Group and the recruitment team in Jürgen Klopp’s engine room overhaul.

However, the Reds turned their attention elsewhere when it became known Mount was only interested in a move to Old Trafford r. The Reds have so far signed both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in this transfer window.

And in his first interview since completing his move to Old Trafford, Mount revealed to MUTV why he was so eager to join United this summer.
“A few months ago it became clear that I wasn’t in Chelsea’s future plans, and once I knew United were involved, my decision was made.

“A huge club, great iconic players who have played here and I wanted to be part of it from the start. Getting here early and getting ready for the start of pre-season was also one of my main goals.

Liverpool have discovered two more playmakers like Trent Alexander-Arnold after $122m transfers
Liverpool new signing Dominik Szoboszlai has some things in common with Alexis Mac Allister and they could be a devastatingly effective pairing for the Reds.

Two pieces of Liverpool’s starting XI are still in place. Dominik Szoboszlai, a new $77m (£60m) signing, looks set to line up as number eight on the right, with previously signed Alexis Mac Allister on the left.
Their roles are likely to differ – Jürgen Klopp has called Mac Allister a “jack of all trades” (via the official Liverpool website) and Szoboszlai is likely to get more offensive licenses – but the Reds will also be using their shared guns.

One is the through ball, defined by Opta as a pass that breaks the defense to make a teammate collide. We explained in this article why this art is somewhat of a dying art in the modern game, but Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are two of the few remaining representatives.

Together, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister made 31 of those assists last season, and for comparison, the entire Liverpool midfield made 39 in the Premier League.

With a total of 15, Mac Allister was 10th in the English top flight, while Szoboszlai was third in the Bundesliga at 15, ahead of Chelsea newcomer Christopher Nkunku (11) and former Reds target Jude Bellingham (nine ). .

Another characteristic common to both players is their preference for the so-called “forward pass”. This is the penultimate pass before a shot.

Szoboszlai actually led the Bundesliga in this department with 41 last season (via The Analyst), while Mac Allister wasn’t far behind in the Premier League with 37. It is often precisely the passes that lead to a really dangerous situation and therefore represent important game elements. With the duo also having deadly balls in their repertoire, they are able to downplay the defense and the prospect of fielding them alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold is therefore enticing.

Liverpool have discovered two more playmakers like Trent Alexander-Arnold after $122m transfers
One of the concerns so far has been that Liverpool have no plan B when Alexander-Arnold is unavailable.

The Englishman is at the heart of Klopp’s new system and operates in a hybrid midfield role, but needs rest from time to time and is also prone to odd injuries.

At the start of the summer, the Reds’ midfield squad lacked the creativity to adequately compensate for their absence and the club have already ruled out the possibility of signing another full-back to fill the same role (via The Athletic).

With Calvin Ramsay on loan at Preston North End and Conor Bradley still short of top-flight experience, Joe Gomez, Liverpool’s strongest alternative to Alexander-Arnold, is ill-equipped to break into midfield.

Alexander-Arnold would therefore leave quite a void. He recorded 124 plays creating shots in the Premier League last season, second only to Mohamed Salah in the Liverpool ranks and well ahead of Andy Robertson (95) in third place.

The best performing midfielder in this area was Harvey Elliott, who made just 75.

But even if Liverpool will now have to revert to a more conventional 4-3-3 without Alexander-Arnold, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister will be ready to take over the game again.

While the pair have cost Liverpool $122m together, they may have saved the club some cash on an Alexander-Arnold ‘clone’ at the same time.

Liverpool were prepared to pay 24-year-old midfielder a huge salary, but he didn't want to join them
Liverpool were happy to match Manchester United’s offer of £200,000 a week to get Mason Mount to join them.

Mount completed the move to United today, having come under fire for Liverpool earlier in the period. While The Athletic confirmed the Reds did indeed want the 24-year-old, The Athletic provided some more details on the inner workings of the transfer.

They claim Liverpool “held talks” with Mount and his agents as they tried to persuade him to move to Anfield.

During those talks it was reported that the Reds were making a “margin” offer of £200,000 a week, rising to £250,000 a week with bonuses. It is said to be a virtually identical package to Old Trafford.

Interestingly, it would also be a salary similar to what was on the table at his former club Chelsea.
Ultimately, however, Mount opted to sign for United. The club’s participation in the Champions League next season is touted as a ‘factor’ in their decision.

    Liverpool miss Mount

So it’s finally official: Liverpool will not sign Mason Mount. Not now – and judging by the transfer history of Liverpool and United – never either.
For many fans, that won’t be a problem at all.

Liverpool were prepared to pay 24-year-old midfielder a huge salary, but he didn't want to join them
When it looked like the Reds would sign the England international, many fans were divided. Now that he has faced the old enemy, tears are unlikely to be shed.

Still, it’s always a shame to hear a player snubbing Liverpool for United. It certainly softens the blow that the Reds have just paid RB Leipzig £60million to sign Dominik Szoboszlai.

But given the same transfer fee Mount left Chelsea for, one would have thought Liverpool would have gone for him as well.

As such, the only reason Mount isn’t a Reds player now appears to be because he preferred to join United. And therefore, all we can say is ‘Good release’.

As Jurgen Klopp hinted when Cody Gakpo joined him in January, he wants players who ‘drive the train, don’t jump on it. “. If he’s playing Champions League football, he wants a decisive player, so we’re not interested

For comparison, here’s what Szoboszlai said when asked about playing in Europe’s top competition next season:

“I can accept that I won’t be able to play the Champions League for a year and the goal is to win the Europa League,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“Liverpool compete in four competitions and I want to help them win as many as possible. When I heard there was a lot of interest, I didn’t think of the Champions League. It’s more about winning the Europa League with Liverpool.”

Liverpool needs to bolster its defense in the upcoming summer transfer window, and Perr Schuurs of the Netherlands is their top target once more.

When he played for Ajax in 2020 (The Mirror), The Reds were linked with him, and they haven’t lost that interest.

After putting on a strong season last year, Torino paid a fee of roughly 10 million euros to hire his services, and now major European clubs are keeping an eye on him.

Liverpool and Napoli reportedly made offers to woo Schuurs, but the Granata rejected them, according to a report covered by Tutto Sport earlier in the day.

The Italian champions submitted a bid worth 28 million euros, while the Reds offered 30 million euros.

The Turin-based media outlet reported that Liverpool are prepared to make a better and newer offer to finally sign the 23-year-old.

Schuurs is worth approximately £42.8 million (50 million euros), but the president of Il Toro might accept a deal if he receives a bid of roughly 40 million euros.

According to Tutto Sport, it is not impossible for the Anfield club to meet the asking price.

Only Napoli, Lazio, Roma, and Juventus had a better defensive record in the previous Serie A season than Torino. Perr Schuurs played in 30 league games and contributed to the team’s nine shutouts.

Surprise Chelsea transfer rumour: “Arsenal hijack,” “the ideal Pochettino player,” and “free agent”

Surprise Chelsea transfer rumour: "Arsenal hijack," "the ideal Pochettino player," and "free agent"

Before September 1st, the transfer window is expected to take many unexpected turns, and Chelsea still has a lot of business to take care of.

The transfer period is currently open, and Chelsea has been active. The Blues still plan to bid farewell to players like Hakim Ziyech, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Christian Pulisic after having seen a large number of them leave west London.

Andrey Santos and Malo Gusto are two new players who are training with the squad for the first time for Mauricio Pochettino’s team. Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson will also be joining the team soon. The expectation is that more will do so.

Moises Caicedo, Gabri Veiga, Angelo Gabriel, and Matheus Franca, to name a few, are just a small portion of the players with whom Chelsea has been associated, but the Blues have demonstrated the capacity to close a deal quietly in the past. Carney Chukwuemeka unexpectedly left Aston Villa last summer, and his transfer was a big one for the Premier League.

Can they accomplish it again this summer? football. As a pleasant surprise for Pochettino, London’s Chelsea writers conjure up some surprising transfers that might show up at the Blues’ door.

    Scott Trotter

The Aurelien Tchouameni transfer train should now be restarted. Real Madrid made sure the Blues were the Frenchman’s final destination when he returned in the summer of 2022, ensuring that the saga never quite reached its conclusion for the Blues.

Therefore, ears must perk up when Chelsea needs a midfielder and there is talk that the 23-year-old could leave the Bernabeu this summer, with teams like Arsenal interested. The Blues have already demonstrated over the past year that they are willing to put together a deal that can outbid their London rivals.

Surprise Chelsea transfer rumour: "Arsenal hijack," "the ideal Pochettino player," and "free agent"
The investment, however, was substantial in Tchouameni. While Tchouameni would in many ways offer the same flexibility as Enzo Fernandez, with the ability to reclaim the ball in deep positions or show more attacking tendencies as a box-to-box eight, it feels like he could have the quality to help form an exciting partnership.

However, this would be another deal that could excite the fanbase. Chelsea are already planning to spend a lot of money on Moises Caicedo, who is undoubtedly a talented player who has demonstrated his ability to fit in in the Premier League.

    Tom Coley.

Taking real cues from Mauricio Pochettino’s prior tactical work, Chelsea could use a right winger who prefers to play inside, is very careful with possession, but offers enough flashy risk and ball skill to open the tightest of defenses.

As examples, consider Dele Alli’s brief stints as a wide midfielder or Christian Eriksen’s position off the right side for Tottenham in a 4-2-3-1. Both players are right-footed, but with full-back overlapping and bombing, a player who can come inside easily would be a huge asset.

Hakim Ziyech is the Chelsea option right now, but he is 30 years old and, by his own admission, is dealing with a knee injury. The 30-year-old is the only other naturally right-handed player in the lineup and will not be at Chelsea in any capacity in 2019. Raheem Sterling can play there, but Noni Madueke is the preferred option and is not a typical Pochettino player.

It’s not to say that Pochettino won’t value and admire Madueke, but when it comes to dependable widemen based in London, Michael Olise is difficult to ignore.

    Bobby Vincent

He is the contemporary Ziyech. He is a young option that wouldn’t cost the world or, to be honest, He has speed, an eye for a pass, jinxing ball control, and unnerving amounts of confidence. He’s regarded as fantastic according to football.London.

The best players Chelsea has recently acquired have either been homegrown or surprisingly affordable, not record-breaking, bank-breaking, mortgage-needing attackers. With a connection to London and dazzling uncertainty, Olise would fit Pochettino and his team’s age range.

Mauricio Pochettino’s ideal lineup for Liverpool, Rayan Cherki, and Dusan Vlahovic are discussed in the most recent Chelsea transfer news, which is covered by the Blues media.

According to reports, Juventus has turned down Chelsea’s offer for Dusan Vlahovic worth €60 million ($65 million). Following Kai Havertz’s transfer to Arsenal, the Blues are reportedly looking for a new number nine this summer.

Italian reports claim that Juventus swiftly rejected Chelsea’s initial offer for the Serbian striker. It is believed that the Italian powerhouses won’t sell until they are paid at least as much as they did for him from Fiorentina, which was £66.86 million ($84.86 million).

Despite this, the same report indicates that the Old Lady are considering a move for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund to replace Vlahovic.

The next player on Mauricio Pochettino’s list this summer appears to be Vlahovic, according to football.london. The Argentine’s frontline will undoubtedly improve with the addition of Nicolas Jackson, but the Argentine will undoubtedly prioritize a strong presence before the start of the season with Liverpool, just like the Serbian did.

Despite the number of departures that have been confirmed in the last ten days, Chelsea doesn’t lack for cash. Unfortunately for Todd Boehly, the club cannot make the same mistakes it did in the previous season or it will face another sale bonanza the following summer.

If Pochettino prefers Vlahovic as his preferred striker, the next offer must be more enticing for Juventus to accept in order to avoid engaging in yet another bidding war.

On the radar is a playmaker similar to Zidane.

Chelsea have every incentive to sign the "next Zinedine Zidane," With the initial $65 million offer being rejected. Rayan Cherki, a playmaker for France’s Under-21 team and Lyon, is reportedly a player Chelsea are “exploring” the signing of.

Following his performances at the Under-21s European Championship this summer, Cherki won over a number of teams in Europe. The 19-year-old is a candidate for the Mason Mount spot at Chelsea, along with Gabri Veiga of Celta Vigo and Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen.

Zinedine Zidane and Kylian Mbappe have previously given the Lyon player glowing recommendations. Cherki has even drawn comparisons to Zidane due to his attacking style and goal-scoring prowess in France.

It is reasonable to conclude that Chelsea’s plan to replace Mason Mount is a youthful one, according to football.London. At such a young age, Wirtz, Veiga, and Cherki have all advanced to senior status at their respective clubs, making them ideal candidates for years to come.

Todd Boehly may have made a wise business decision by signing Cherki. The midfielder, who can also play out wide at age 19, has the talent and versatility to elevate Pochettino’s squad for the upcoming campaign. Everything depends on the cost.

Similar to Chelsea, Lyon is not playing in Europe this year despite having a very bad season under Laurent Blanc. One potential way to reinvest in the playing group is by selling one of their best players.

With him personally pushing for a move away from Stamford Bridge, the past week or so has been crucial for the Mount deal.

This is in spite of rumors that the England international has been the subject of a more than competitive salary offer for some time.

The Blues initially turned down three offers from United because they still thought highly of him.

However, he only has a year left on his contract with West London, and the fact that he is unwilling to leave suggests that they may have been planning to get rid of him for nothing.

After some negotiation, the two parties settled on a deal, and according to Romano, the player who had been called “unbelievable” is now scheduled to have a medical with his prospective new team.

Mason Mount will have medical tests on Monday, after which he will finally sign a five-year contract to become a new Manchester United player, the speaker stated.

Due to Chelsea's £120 million transfer lesson from the sale of Mason Mount, Levi Colwill's price has skyrocketed.
Chelsea transfer news: Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital’s selling of Mason Mount ranks among its worst decisions thus far, but losing Levi Colwill is worse.

Chelsea is improving as a result of its errors.
It has come to light that similar efforts are being made to bind down Levi Colwill, just one day after agreeing to sell an academy graduate for the highest transfer fee ever paid for a player coming through Cobham.

Brighton, who were impressed by the 20-year-old’s performances under Roberto De Zerbi last season, have already made two sizable offers to sign him. The Seagulls’ offers, at £40 million, would be higher than what Chelsea was offered for Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori.

These are currently the largest incoming prices for Cobham’s biggest exits, but Mason Mount is expected to bring in £55 million for his move to Manchester United, with the possibility that that sum could still increase to £60 million with add-ons reached.

It is evidence of both the high caliber of players being developed and the mistakes that were made along the way. Chelsea acquired Kalidou Koulibaly for £35 million on a four-year deal the same summer that Mount was sold, a development that seemed unthinkable even a year earlier.

Due to Chelsea's £120 million transfer lesson from the sale of Mason Mount, Levi Colwill's price has skyrocketed.Having sold Marc Guehi to Crystal Palace before making a first-team appearance for the club and Tomori for £25 million in 2021, it raises concerns over which players are kept and why.
However, an offer from the Saudi Pro League has helped them out of a hole with that one.

Despite the fact that more than £300 million worth of attackers have been signed, Abraham demanded a higher fee when he joined Roma and no player has yet to match the 15 league goals he scored in 2019–20. Mount’s 11 last season is the closest they have gotten to matching Abraham’s totals after four years.

The same error needs to be steadfastly avoided now that Colwill is regarded as one of the best players to come through the academy and his loan spell at Huddersfield as a teenager was comparable to Reece James’ at Wigan. Losing Colwill is out of the question after selling Guehi and Tomori and returning to Thiago Silva as a viable option.

For Mauricio Pochettino’s inaugural season, the club wants to make him a crucial piece of the puzzle. There is no immediate need to act because he still has two years left on his initial contract and has the option of exercising an additional club option to extend it for another season.

Brighton is one of many teams interested in Colwill, but there is still a desire to show their allegiance to him before the preseason. He has reportedly been given a new, long-term contract by the club, according to the Evening Standard, but he won’t sign anything until he meets with Pochettino after his return from the Under-21 European Championships with England.

Due to Chelsea's £120 million transfer lesson from the sale of Mason Mount, Levi Colwill's price has skyrocketed.
Colwill is already being discussed, in contrast to Mount, who entered the final two years of his contract without much progress toward improved and agreed-upon terms. It wasn’t until after last summer that Mount became a serious problem, at which point time was of the essence.

According to Transfermarkt, the player’s value has increased significantly since he joined Huddersfield as a 19-year-old in 2022 for about £4million. However, the club’s decision to reject early bids from clubs across Europe shows where they stand as the summer transfer window approaches.

It is believed that losing Mount in these conditions was the biggest oversight made by the ownership to date. Perhaps a sign of how seriously this situation is being taken is that steps are being taken to prevent the same thing from occurring with a player who is thought to be even more promising than the 24-year-old.

Chelsea has learned from it, but it’s still too soon to be certain of the future until Colwill has extended his stay.
