Deal imminent – Liverpool poised to finalize important signing of transfer specialist

    Markus Pilawa

Liverpool are preparing for changes in their backroom staff following the announcement of Director of Scouting and Recruitment, Dave Fallows, leaving after 12 years at Anfield.

To fill this vacancy, the club appears to be set on hiring Markus Pilawa, a former scout for Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, who is currently available, according to Anfield Watch.

Pilawa is well-regarded in German football, although his tenure at Bayern was not particularly notable. He was released by Bayern’s sporting CEO, Mex Eberl, not due to his scouting abilities but because Eberl preferred to work with someone familiar to him.

In contrast, Pilawa’s time at Borussia Dortmund was marked by significant success, notably in recruiting Jude Bellingham and Erling Haaland. Reports indicate that Pilawa orchestrated efforts for Dortmund players to send messages to Haaland to persuade him to join, even facilitating a lucrative boot deal from Puma that helped Haaland negotiate a larger contract with Nike.

Since Michael Edwards returned to the club last summer, Liverpool has been undergoing substantial changes in their backroom staff, as highlighted by another report from Anfield Watch. Fallows will leave at the end of the year after an impressive tenure.

This situation presents an ideal opportunity for Liverpool to sign Pilawa, especially since he is a free agent and only requires terms to be agreed upon. With his strong track record, it will be interesting to see how Liverpool pursues his signing.

Replacement for Mohamed Salah found as Liverpool contract speculation arises

Replacement for Mohamed Salah found as Liverpool contract speculation arises.

Mohamed Salah may leave Liverpool for free at the season’s end, and former Reds midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes Omar Marmoush should be signed as his replacement.

Salah is in the final year of his contract, leaving uncertainty about whether he will extend his stay or depart. Hamann has endorsed Salah’s fellow countryman, Marmoush, as a suitable successor.

Currently playing in the Bundesliga for Eintracht Frankfurt, Marmoush has netted 10 goals in 10 appearances this season. When asked about the 25-year-old’s potential in the Premier League, Hamann stated to wettbasis, “Yes, absolutely.

“I think that both Frankfurt strikers (Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike) are on the radar of the English. A wonderful couple that harmonise very well with each other. With Ekitike, we knew that he had great potential.

“He had indicated that last season, in the winter, and now he seems to be taking off. With Marmoush, I was always surprised at Wolfsburg that he didn’t really get going. But he’s a wonderful player, a great finisher, and has pace.

“So they’re both players who are obviously very interesting for the Premier League. It will be difficult to follow Salah. I don’t think he has missed ten games in eight or nine years. So it will be difficult to follow him, but I would trust Marmoush to do it.”

Hamann’s comments come after former Liverpool teammate Jamie Carragher expressed hope that Salah will sign a new contract to secure his legacy by breaking records. Currently tied for ninth on the all-time Premier League goalscorers list with Jermain Defoe, Carragher believes Salah will aim to climb higher.

    Omar Marmoush

“He’ll have an eye on Thierry Henry and Frank Lampard by the end of this season, I would imagine,” Carragher remarked on Sky Sports. “I think stats like this are one of the biggest reasons why Mo Salah will sign a new contract at Liverpool.

“Of course they’ll be talking about money and length of contract, but I think these are the things that really get the juices flowing for Mo Salah. He breaks all the records at Liverpool, but getting as far as he can up those lists, I think that’s a big part of his focus as a player.”

Liverpool presents proposal to secure pre-contract with defender earning £183,000 per week

    Alphonso Davies

Liverpool, with Michael Edwards at the helm, is undoubtedly already planning for the upcoming season. The Reds have a strong history of effective squad planning and will want to maintain that momentum.

A key strategy for future planning involves targeting players from other top clubs who are nearing the end of their contracts without having renewed. Liverpool is well aware of this, especially with their own trio—Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah—in similar situations.

About a month ago, we reported that Liverpool expressed interest in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies, who is currently earning around £183,000 a week and has just nine months left on his contract with the Bundesliga side.

According to Grizz Khan of 90min, Liverpool has made a pre-contract offer to Davies, should he decide to leave Bayern. The Canadian will be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs starting January 1, 2025.

However, the report indicates that despite Liverpool’s keen interest, they are likely to lose out to Real Madrid. The Spanish giants have been pursuing Davies for some time, and when they set their sights on a player, they often succeed.

Liverpool has experienced similar disappointments in transfer battles with Madrid, such as with *Aurelien Tchouameni*. Although the Reds will strive to secure Davies, overcoming Real Madrid may prove challenging.

Still, football can be unpredictable, and until Davies officially signs elsewhere, anything is possible. Let’s see how this unfolds.

£83.5 million star ‘set to join Liverpool as Salah’s replacement’

    Endrick

Liverpool are considering several high-quality playmakers to succeed Mohamed Salah, with Real Madrid’s Rodrygo once again in the spotlight.

During the summer, Sport reported that Liverpool made a €120 million bid for the South American talent, but it was rejected by Los Blancos. Now, the situation has evolved.

Le Foot Magazine’s latest edition (as shown in the image below) lists the top 50 forwards in Europe, with Manchester City’s Erling Braut Haaland ranked first. Mohamed Salah comes in at 12th after scoring over 30 goals last season, while Rodrygo is placed 17th.

Salah has been among the world’s elite players at Anfield, and only a world-class replacement could fill his shoes when he departs. His current contract has just over eight months left.

Rodrygo’s contract at the Bernabeu extends until 2028, and last season he played a crucial role in the squad that secured both La Liga and the Champions League titles under Carlo Ancelotti.

French sources suggest that with the additions of Mbappe and Endrick, Rodrygo faces a significant risk of reduced playing time, which has indeed occurred. This season, the 23-year-old has started 6 of 9 league matches, completing the full 90 minutes only twice.

Additionally, in the most recent Champions League match, Ancelotti chose not to substitute him in during the reigning champions’ loss to Lille.

Le Foot reports that he is “already announced at Liverpool to replace Salah,” and the £83.5 million+ valued player felt let down after failing to receive a Ballon d’Or nomination, unlike six of his Madrid teammates: Mbappe, Vinicius, Bellingham, Kroos, Carvajal, and Valverde.

Thus, Rodrygo may need a change of environment to solidify his status as a team superstar, and a potential move to Liverpool to take Salah’s place could be the solution. What do you think?

'Really worried' - Arne Slot reacts to Liverpool player’s desire to leave following rejected bid

Liverpool have announced a significant deal in Saudi Arabia, which has been termed a ‘momentous’ agreement.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has emerged as an evolving football nation, with substantial investments aimed at enhancing the country’s football infrastructure and status.

Simultaneously, the Saudi Pro League is attracting top global talents, and its clubs are gaining prominence.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup, where the nation will seek a strong performance in the tournament.

Amid these developments, Liverpool is set to expand its influence in the growing football scene in Saudi Arabia.

    Liverpool strikers Saudi Arabia agreement

The club’s international academy, operational for over a decade in various global locations, will now establish a presence in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This comes following an agreement with One World International School (OWIS) to host Liverpool’s international academy there.

OWIS, part of the esteemed Singapore-based Global Schools Group (GSG), will serve as one of the venues for the academy.

The announcement was made by ACN News Wire, with GSG’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East region calling the agreement a ‘momentous’ event.

“It is a momentous occasion for OWIS Riyadh to join hands with Liverpool FC International Academy Saudi Arabia,” said Mr. Amol Vaidya. “With this academy, we hope to offer a promising opportunity for Riyadh’s talented football community. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to nurturing young talents, helping them follow their passion and excel in life.”

Liverpool’s website notes that the club operates several international academies across Europe, Asia, North America, and Australia. Liverpool’s international academy in Saudi Arabia was launched in December 2022.

Nottingham Forest’s bid for Caoimhin Kelleher was rejected.

Arne Slot has expressed understanding regarding Caoimhin Kelleher’s desire to leave Liverpool. During the international break with the Republic of Ireland, Kelleher voiced his frustration over Liverpool’s signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia.

The 25-year-old is currently the backup goalkeeper to Alisson Becker at Anfield, but the acquisition of Mamardashvili—who will stay on loan at Valencia for the 2024-25 season—suggests he is being groomed as the future No. 1.

Liverpool declined a late offer from Nottingham Forest for Kelleher as it did not meet their £30 million valuation. Kelleher has repeatedly stated his wish to play regularly.

Despite this, Slot did not take offense at Kelleher’s comments. He noted that he would be “really worried” if players who aren’t regularly featured were content with that status.

At his pre-Forest press conference, Slot remarked: “I would be really worried if a player came out and said he doesn’t care about playing first-team football. That would be a bigger worry for me.

“It’s normal they want to play but it’s normal for a club like this that wants to compete for trophies to have more than 11 players who can play. As long as they can accept their situation—not in a way that I don’t care I’m not playing but by helping the team when they have to—is a good place to be.

“Caoimhin has shown many times in the past few years and in pre-season he’s ready when we need him. It’s a good thing and who knows, he’s going to play for us in the future but at the moment, it’s quite clear Alisson is No. 1. It’s a normal situation for a player to be in if you’re not playing but he handles the situation.”

Michael Edwards at Work as Liverpool Plan January Transfer Move

Liverpool’s chief executive, Michael Edwards, is leading the search for a new number six, according to Football Insider. On the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke shared that the club has begun preparations for the January transfer window and is focused on identifying areas for improvement.

Alongside sporting director Richard Hughes, the recruitment team has started evaluating options after missing out on Martin Zubimendi. However, they are committed to ensuring that any new signings are a perfect fit for the club rather than simply adding players.

    #6 for the Reds?

Since Arne Slot’s arrival, Ryan Gravenberch has excelled in a new role, but there is still a belief that Liverpool needs a dedicated backup in that position. Edwards’ return, with his emphasis on a data-driven approach, has revitalized the club’s transfer strategy.

Although the lack of summer signings was disappointing for many fans, the club insists they will only make moves in the market when absolutely necessary. With Edwards leading the charge, preparations for the January window are well underway as Slot aims to strengthen his squad.

Liverpool’s strategic use of data analytics in recruitment has proven successful over the years. Edwards’ careful approach ensures that potential signings are not only tactically suited but also offer long-term value. This approach is crucial in their current quest for a defensive midfielder, which is essential for the team’s balance and effectiveness.

Despite Gravenberch’s impressive performances, the need for a specialist number six remains. Adding a player in this role would enhance squad depth and provide better rotation and injury coverage. Liverpool’s recruitment team is actively seeking candidates who can integrate smoothly into the team’s setup.

Liverpool are increasingly interested in the possible acquisition of Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala, who is also being tracked by Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Bayern have publicly expressed their intention to secure Musiala with a new contract, but CaughtOffside reports that Liverpool have been alerted as the Germany international approaches the final year of his current deal at the Allianz Arena.

Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside yesterday that Bayern are optimistic about retaining Musiala, though no agreement has been reached yet, and the process might take some time. Therefore, it is not surprising to see other clubs becoming involved.

The promising 21-year-old could potentially achieve legendary status at Bayern if he decides to remain with the club and become a central figure for both Bayern and German football.

Musiala transfer: Is Liverpool able to attract Bayern’s star to Anfield?

Musiala also has ties to English football, having been part of Chelsea’s academy and representing both England and Germany at youth levels before choosing the latter for his senior international career.

As a result, Premier League clubs might have some hope of attracting Musiala if he continues to delay signing a new deal at Bayern.

Some sources have indicated to CaughtOffside that Musiala’s priority might be to stay at Bayern, though he appears to keep his options open, as he also has aspirations to play in the Premier League.

Whether Liverpool or Manchester City can convince Musiala to join remains uncertain, especially since CaughtOffside notes that his asking price could be as high as €180m, presenting a significant hurdle for negotiations with Bayern before even considering Musiala’s interest in a potential move.

In advance of the start of the new Premier League season, Liverpool changes their badge.

Liverpool has announced that, in advance of the 2024–2025 season, the team would be changing its emblem across all digital media.

This summer at Anfield is expected to bring about a lot of change, with Arne Slot taking over as team manager, returning players like Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, and new signings throughout the transfer window. And not just the team is affected by this.

Before the 2024–2025 season, Liverpool has announced that the team will be changing the logo across digital and mobile platforms. They’ve decided to stick with a more subdued appearance for the time being, but the Liver Bird will still be visible in these regions.

“It will be used to represent LFC across all the club’s social media platforms, the official website, and the mobile app,” the club said in a statement. The Premier League’s host broadcasters, together with other national and international media, will utilise the Liver Bird in digital and TV contexts next season.

“Club branding has to be made much clearer and more readable in ever-smaller places, as evidenced by the fact that mobile devices account for 98% of users of club social channels and over 86% of visitors to Liverpoolfc.com.

“The Liver Bird insignia has appeared in various guises over the years, having made its debut on Liverpool’s uniform during their 1950 FA Cup final loss to Arsenal. But it hasn’t changed since 2012 and it won’t either, along with the 97 emblem that will always be on the back of club uniforms and is protected by the eternal flames.

“It will also feature in all club digital marketing and communications, across club products, by LFC partners and wider official relationships.”

The official club insignia will remain a significant part of the club’s identity, the club has stated, and it will be shown in non-digital locations like the club offices, Anfield, and the AXA Training Centre and AXA Melwood Training Centre.

According to Liverpool.com, the new digital design is more in keeping with the contemporary branding that the majority of football clubs choose to use nowadays. The club’s rich history is still acknowledged, though, and its preservation through the use of the emblem on the stadium and other facilities guarantees that it won’t be forgotten.

Additionally, this is an ideal time for the team to make these kinds of adjustments as Liverpool prepares to take on a new chapter on all fronts under Arne Slot, who took over for the iconic manager Jurgen Klopp.

Slot’s reign at Liverpool could begin with Inacio transfer.

    Goncalo Inacio

The Dutchman appears to be confident in obtaining solid results from the start of next season, and one of his primary requirements is to strengthen the defensive.

    The Reds wants Goncalo Inacio.

According to CaughtOffside sources familiar with Slot’s plans, Sporting’s excellent centre-back Goncalo Inacio, whom Liverpool has been pursuing since last November, is the club’s primary goal.

In January, the Portuguese defender decided to stay with Sporting until the conclusion of the season for personal reasons.

However, he is now ready to make the big move to the Premier League, with Liverpool seeking to finalise his transfer in the coming weeks.

Keeping with the Reds defence, Virgil van Dijk’s position must be observed.

His contract will expire in June 2025, and conversations over his renewal have stalled. As a result, the Saudi Pro League continues to view him as a top priority.

In midfield, Liverpool is pursuing Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, a player Slot also values; however, there is fierce competition for his services, with several Italian and German clubs interested.

The Anfield club has requested information on the potential costs of the operation for Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, but Newcastle, AC Milan, and Manchester United are also in the running, so Liverpool are unlikely to have it all their own.

Two ‘great’ Liverpool figures who Daniel Sturridge identifies will ease Arne Slot’s ‘transition’

A hectic summer is ahead at Anfield with Arne Slot taking over as manager

A hectic summer is ahead at Anfield with Arne Slot taking over as manager of Liverpool starting on Saturday. Daniel Sturridge thinks having important people around will make a difference.

Despite Jurgen Klopp’s departure, former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge thinks the team is in good hands. With the commencement of a new era at Anfield, Arne Slot’s tenure as the Reds’ new head coach officially began on Saturday.

The players at Liverpool won’t be back together for another month as Slot and new sporting director Richard Hughes have some important transfer market decisions to make.

For Liverpool and its FSG owners, who have entirely reorganised its football department, this summer is going to be a major one. Michael Edwards, who was previously the CEO of Football, has rejoined the team, as has Julian Ward, who took his post at Anfield.

Although their responsibilities will go beyond what is going on in Merseyside, their top concern will be making sure Slot has all the resources he needs to make the transfer go smoothly. Additionally, Sturridge expresses confidence about Edwards’ attendance with FSG president Mike Edwards.

Regarding Klopp’s exit, the former striker said to The Times: “He accomplished amazing feats.” Those, in my opinion, were not the expectations upon his arrival. He developed wonderful relationships with individuals.

He will go down as possibly the best Liverpool manager of all time. The club is now going through a change of phases. Players expiring their contracts, a new manager—it’s just that kind of season. “However, the backstage crew is incredible.

Gordon and Edwards are two Mikes I know quite well. They have undoubtedly evaluated the manager they have hired and are aware of how well his management style fits the present team. They are also likely keeping an eye on players they would like to recruit. I don’t think Liverpool will lose this time.

Gordon will be replaced by Edwards in overseeing FSG’s football operations on a daily basis. So long as there are intentions to add another club to the sporting portfolio, Liverpool will come under his purview.

According to Liverpool.com, the Arne Slot era has officially begun. Although the preseason doesn’t begin for another month, Liverpool is probably going to have a lot going on before then. After joining the team again, Edwards will play a significant part because he has demonstrated his ability to be effective and successful in the past. However, Liverpool must now focus on the future, which, as Sturridge notes, seems to be good.

Trent Alexander-Arnold gives a vague indication about his future with Liverpool before his contract expires.

In the summer of 2025, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool expires.

Following Arne Slot’s hiring as the Reds’ new head coach, Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to have made a subliminal indication regarding his future at Liverpool.

Real Madrid is apparently showing interest in the vice captain of Liverpool, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025. However, as sporting director Richard Hughes, FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards, and Slot formally began their new positions on June 1st, the 25-year-old has been forced to wait for any kind of future resolution.

Being a lifelong Reds supporter, it would come as a shock if Alexander-Arnold ended his Anfield career. But as he approaches the last year of his current deal, questions about his future continue.

Secure a new deal for the right-back from Liverpool is likely to be one of Hughes’ first priorities; the Reds will undoubtedly detest the thought of Alexander-Arnold leaving on a free transfer in a year.

Although the player has clearly committed his future to the team for at least another year, they may still try to cash in on him this summer if an extension seems improbable.

He said on the club website, “It was a good season, built on last season, got better as a team, challenged for the title, took it far and we improved.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold gives a vague indication about his future with Liverpool before his contract expires.

“Any improvement indicates that the season is going well. Consider the good things, go on, and maybe see you next season.”

Following their victory against Chelsea at Wembley in February, the Reds won the League Cup in his first season as vice captain of Liverpool. But the defender would be out of the game due to injury.

When he returned, Liverpool’s season had begun to wane as they had lost out on qualifying for the FA Cup and Europa League and had run out of steam in their pursuit of the Premier League crown.

Yet, having claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign with the club was a ‘good season’, Alexander-Arnold is definitely ready to push on again under Slot in 2024/25.

In the week leading up to his own contract expiring in the summer of 2020, Mohamed Salah openly pledged his future to Liverpool for an additional season, joining the England international as the only player to do so.

Slot said on social media after being officially named the Reds’ new head coach: “We know that trophies are what count and we will do everything possible to make that happen next season.” We will battle like crazy because our fans deserve it.

Even though these disclosures don’t provide much comfort about Salah and Alexander-Arnold’s prospects after their current contracts expire, it seems certain that Slot will use both players during his first year as Liverpool’s manager.

Regarding transfer targets, Richard Hughes, the new sporting director, will face an early challenge that Michael Edwards never faced.

Regarding transfer targets, Richard Hughes, the new sporting director, will face an early challenge that Michael Edwards never faced.

Given that Michael Edwards served as Liverpool’s first official sporting director from 2016 until 2022, his reputation didn’t require much augmentation.

Although Edwards is infamous for his refusal to discuss his tenure in the Anfield recruitment office publicly, his efforts were vital in helping Jurgen Klopp assemble the kind of club that would win every major football championship from 2019 to 2022.

Under Edwards’ direction, players like Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, and others were signed. Liverpool’s success in the transfer market, especially from 2016 to 2018, gave Klopp the resources he needed to assemble the legendary team that won the Premier League and the Champions League in back-to-back years.

Edwards’s infamously low profile became legendary among the club’s supporters as a result. As ‘CEO of football’ at Anfield—the title specifically assigned to him upon his return to the fold of the Fenway Sports Group earlier this year—supporters worried about the move away from Klopp will be reassured by his presence at Liverpool once again because of his track record.

Edwards will not be leading the talks this summer at Anfield, but the CEO of football did approve of Richard Hughes’ appointment as sporting director from Bournemouth. This will finally fulfil the Reds’ long-standing wish to collaborate with their former Portsmouth colleague.

Still, with Klopp no longer leading Liverpool as manager, Hughes will not have the same kind of perks that Edwards had while he held the position.

Without a doubt, transfer targets’ desire to join Klopp’s team has greatly assisted Edwards’ job, despite all the praise he received both publicly and personally during a time when Liverpool became one of the best teams in the world of football.

Regarding transfer targets, Richard Hughes, the new sporting director, will face an early challenge that Michael Edwards never faced.

Dominik Szoboszlai was very upfront about it when he said it last summer: “I made the final decision to join them when I got a call from the manager.” I am naturally very happy because of this energy and, as I already mentioned, the way Klopp interacts with the players both on and off the pitch.”

Sadio Mane said in 2016 of the moment his chance to play for Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund fell through while he was in Austria: “I told myself to just carry on working hard, push myself and something big would come.” That’s what I did. After I played well at Southampton, I was asked back by Klopp. I have the good fortune to be working with one of the top football managers right now. It was destined to happen, and I’m grateful that I can constantly pick his brain for knowledge.

Van Dijk said earlier this month, “He is a special character, definitely.” “He is a legendary figure. He felt that I was a major component of the potential success and that I could undoubtedly help that, thus he wanted me and me alone. It went smoothly, which pleases me.The management has been excellent, and the club is one of the main factors, but it was the full package.

The club, the manager, and everything he had planned to happen had to be taken into consideration when I had to make a decision. There were no promises, but it was a major incentive for me to come here, and I’m glad I did given our level of success.”

Being one of the most well-known and captivating managers in the modern game, it made sense that so many players would have preferred to work with Klopp over joining a team of Liverpool’s calibre.

Even though the AXA Training Centre staff is confident in new head coach Arne Slot, Klopp’s replacement does not yet share that confidence. The 45-year-old Dutchman’s reputation hasn’t expanded too far outside of the Eredivisie, so transfer targets will need to be persuaded to adopt a different strategy than the one that has largely succeeded over the previous eight years.

That poses a whole new problem for Hughes, even though Liverpool’s appeal remains in addition to their capacity to provide Champions League football.

Arsenal’s midfielder’s exit is “considered” by Liverpool following Jürgen Klopp’s advice.

Arsenal's midfielder's exit is "considered" by Liverpool following Jürgen Klopp's advice.

Jürgen Klopp went on to commend the Arsenal midfielder who Liverpool ‘considered’ a proposition for last summer. He is going to be available during the transfer window.

Liverpool’s hiring department got a makeover. Michael Edwards has been reappointed by FSG as CEO of Football, and he has begun to fill several related roles.

Julian Ward, another re-entering role, will take on the role of technical director. David Woodfine, who will report to new recruit Richard Hughes, will serve as assistant sporting director, rounding out the roster of former employees who have been persuaded to return.

Because of this, transfer policy will be determined by a variety of factors, including the suggestions made by the incoming manager Arne Slot. After almost nine years in charge, Jürgen Klopp’s influence over hiring decisions has undoubtedly diminished. But, given that the midfielder is now expected to be available on the market, Liverpool may go back and review the compliments he bestowed onto one Arsenal player this season.

During the campaign, Albert Sambi Lokonga was loaned to Luton Town. And when Klopp found out Arsenal had decided to let him go, albeit temporarily, he showed shock.

“When you watch Lokonga play and you figure, ‘Oh, he’s an Arsenal guy, and they loaned him?’ Interesting,” Klopp remarked in February prior to Liverpool’s match against Luton. That game, the Reds would overcome a deficit to win 4-1.

Arsenal's midfielder's exit is "considered" by Liverpool following Jürgen Klopp's advice.

FurthermoreArsenal’s midfielder’s exit is “considered” by Liverpool following Jürgen Klopp’s advice., Sambi Lokonga and Liverpool have a longer history together. The Daily Express believes he was offered to the Reds last summer before he moved to Luton, and they ‘considered’ the deal.

Arsenal has agreed to allow Edwards to go this summer, so Edwards and the team will have a fresh look at the 24-year-old. He’s had discussions with the club, and the Standard reports that ‘all’ sides have decided it’s best for him to move on permanently.

Luton is eager to hold onto Sambi Lokonga, who cost $19 million (£15 million/€18 million) when he first joined Arsenal from Anderlecht. Though’slim’ after being relegated from the Premier League, it is expected to attract interest from elite teams.

According to Liverpool.com, Sambi Lokonga is a solid but unspectacular player, and Liverpool might realistically pursue him if the price was right. However, Arsenal won’t be willing to just hand away the Belgium international following a respectable Premier League season.

Could his squad role be compared to that of a younger Wataru Endō? Potentially, but given that the Japan captain can maintain that supporting role for at least another season, it’s unlikely to be Liverpool’s top goal this summer.

Sambi Lokonga will ultimately be a wise acquisition for someone, but it most likely won’t be Liverpool. But since we’ve thought of him previously, we shouldn’t throw him out entirely.

    Anthony Gordon

Over the weekend, a pretty surprising transfer speculation involving Liverpool surfaced.

The Daily Star (via Daily Express) revealed on Sunday that the Reds are considering making a “surprise move” for Anthony Gordon, who was just crowned Newcastle’s Player of the Season and is valued at St. James’ Park at over £100 million.

The 23-year-old is rumoured to have drawn attention at Anfield, where LFC executives are considering him as a possible target for this summer’s transfer window—the first one to happen under sporting director Richard Hughes’ direction.

Prior to being released and joining Everton, where he advanced through the youth systems and into the first team before a £45 million move to Newcastle in January 2023, Gordon was actually signed by Liverpool as a young player.

The winger, who named Steven Gerrard his boyhood football idol, has tallied double figures in goals and assists in the Premier League this year. He must have done a lot well to be named the team’s top player ahead of Alexander Isak, who can score twenty goals.

One of those attackers might very well be sold this summer, as the Magpies are supposedly under pressure to offload important assets in order to abide by Financial Fair Play rules.

We’d be shocked if the Reds signed Gordon this summer, though, given the number of football players who have represented both of Merseyside’s top teams over the years (as our own Peter Kenny Jones thoroughly examined in his outstanding book Crossing the Park: The Men Who Dared to Play for Both Liverpool & Everton).

Even with his excellent season, it would be hard to justify paying a nine-figure transfer fee when Hughes and Michael Edwards could undoubtedly find an attacker of comparable calibre for less money. We wouldn’t be likely to take this specific rumour very seriously.

With their methodical acquisition of Arne Slot from Feyenoord, Liverpool has once again set the standard. The Reds wasted no time in guaranteeing that there will be some continuity following Jurgen Klopp’s final departure from Anfield.

The first team squad can rest easy knowing that a succession plan is in place, even though they will need to adjust to a new working environment and possibly a different management style.

Nothing is worse for a worker in any organisation than to believe that their employer—a venerable football team in this case—is not giving them enough guidance.

Three more will follow Arne Slot at Liverpool.

With the exception of the Super League fiasco, FSG has been steadfast in their support of its management and open about their goals ever since taking over the team.

The Reds are serious about their game, as seen by Slot’s approaching arrival. No more of those “will they, won’t they” types of situations that seem to be eating up far too much time at rival Manchester United.

The players for Liverpool will know exactly what to expect when they return for preseason when the season ends.

After a few weeks of work, it will be clear whether some of Klopp’s most devoted players can handle Slot’s style of play.

If nothing else, the manager will feel secure in the knowledge that he is surrounded by capable individuals.

This is due to the fact that sources have informed Football Insider that analyst Etienne Reijnen, head of performance Ruben Peeters, and assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff of Feyenoord have all decided to follow Slot to Liverpool.
