Championship side Preston North End are hoping to take Liverpool right-back Calvin Ramsay on loan next season.
Ramsay endured an injury-ridden debut season after joining Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen in an initial £4m deal last summer.
The 19-year-old was sidelined for several months with a serious back injury revealed during a medical before making his first-team debut as a substitute in a late Champions League group stage win against Napoli in November.
He made his first start – and only other appearance to date – for Jürgen Klopp’s side in a League Cup fourth round win against Derby County the following week, but has not played at any level since January after his season was ended prematurely by surgery for a knee problem.
Ramsay continues to recover from surgery and last month was seen working outdoors at the AXA Training Center in Kirkby while the rest of the squad had a full training session.
Liverpool are aware that the defender will need regular playing time to regain his fitness, having played just 384 competitive minutes across various age groups over the past 12 months.
And while no decision has yet been made on whether that is best achieved playing for the Under-21s or at a higher level, Preston – who are managed by former Liverpool youngster Ryan Lowe – hopes to persuade the Reds that Ramsay his development can continue next season temporarily at Deepdale.
Liverpool’s right-back opportunities will be boosted in pre-season with the return of Conor Bradley after enjoying great success on loan at Bolton Wanderers and helping Trotters lift the Papa John’s Trophy.
