Liverpool have already signed Alexis Mac Allister as the summer transfer window officially opens on Wednesday morning

Liverpool can officially step up their recruitment campaign when the transfer window opens on Wednesday morning – although the Reds have already made their mark by signing Alexis Mac Allister.

After garnering rave reviews for his performances at Brighton – not to mention winning the World Cup this winter – Mac Allister was the obvious choice for Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team after abandoning their initial plans to sign Jude Bellingham, joined by Real Madrid, oblige, put on hold the immense financial costs involved.

Mac Allister was signed for an undisclosed fee and was part of the budget, but Liverpool have been given considerable leeway in their search for new signings. France stars Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram are firmly on the radar, along with one or two unlikely (or impossible) targets.

Stark reports of Fede Valverde and Kylian Mbappe have surfaced in the past 24 hours. Although they are top players, finances play a role, as with Bellingham.

However, with several players leaving the club, there are more attractive options for anyone to follow him through the door this summer;

No.7 – An iconic number for Liverpool fans dating back to Sir Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan and other past heroes. In more recent times, Steve McManaman, Harry Kewell and Luis Suarez have worn that particular jersey while outgoing veteran James Milner has worn it for the last eight seasons.

No.8 – Synonymous with Steven Gerrard in the last decade of his career at Anfield. Naby Keita was the most recent incumbent, although it was always going to be an extremely difficult question to replicate what Gerrard achieved as No. 8.

No.9 – Another team decision that will not be taken lightly. Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and Fernando Torres have all scored goals aplenty with the number 9 on their backs and Roberto Firmino, one of the four high-profile summer players, will also need some emulation.

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez may have seen it from home.
NO. 12 – Joe Gomez moved from number 12 to number 2 last season and has not been reassigned.

Number 15 – Milner, Keita and Firmino weren’t the only players to leave Anfield this summer, as fans also said goodbye to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after six years at the club. He has been wearing the number 15 shirt since 2019.

Dean Saunders has advised Mikel Artetas Arsenal to sign former Liverpool star and current Bayern Munich player Sadio Mane this summer.

But while other teams have been named over a possible Mane signing this summer, Saunders has decided to throw Arsenal’s name into the mix.

“I have one for you, it could win you (Arsenal) the championship,” said Saunders. “Mane. What a signing that would be! He Plays everywhere. Plays center.”

The mane would not suit Arsenal now

The problem here is that he prefers to play from the left or from the centre, now that Arteta is quite on that left channel and a true striker is more needed in the center than a player like Mane.

Also, Mane has just come off a season of struggles and isn’t getting any younger, so from that perspective he wouldn’t fit the profile Arsenal have been looking for in recent years.

It probably just shows how much North London has grown that they probably wouldn’t push for Mane’s signing now.
