Liverpool great Didi Hamann discusses his public spat with Jurgen Klopp and evaluates the effectiveness of the Reds’ midfield makeover from last summer.

It should come as no surprise, looking back to the summer of last year, that Liverpool focused most of their £150 million midfield makeover on the Bundesliga.

The writing was on the wall when Jorg Schmadtke, who had held comparable positions at VfL Wolfsburg, FC Koln, Hannover 96, and Alemannia Aachen during the preceding 20 years, was named the Reds’ new sporting director on a temporary basis.

After Julian Ward left the team and stayed on for an additional week to supervise the already agreed-upon £35 million signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion, Schmadtke took over and used his connections in his native country for the remainder of the summer.

After Julian Ward left the team and stayed on for an additional week to supervise the already agreed-upon £35 million signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion, Schmadtke took over and used his connections in his native country for the remainder of the summer.

After Liverpool exercised his release clause, Dominik Szoboszlai was acquired from RB Leipzig for £60 million, and on transfer deadline day, Ryan Gravenberch, a long-term target, was finally signed by Bayern Munich for a transaction that might have cost as much as £40 million.

The Reds had to wait patiently for the Dutchman, as Jurgen Klopp would later acknowledge, saying, “We knew there was a chance for Ryan.” Klopp was speaking about the preseason’s beginning at an Anfield Road stand test event in December. Such an action was long overdue, with the club corresponding with his representatives for the most of the first half of 2023.

In the meantime, Liverpool finally decided on Wataru Endo from VfB Stuttgart after growing dissatisfied with their attempts to sign a new holding midfield player following the surprise departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia. They had passed up players like Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Andre Trindade.

The 30-year-old Japan captain, who had joined Stuttgart in August 2019 as a 2. Bundesliga player before continuously fighting to stay in the German top division, undoubtedly confused onlookers when he arrived.

Endo and Klopp have both admitted on multiple occasions that Liverpool would not target him under normal conditions. But need dictates that his £16.2 million arrival, having overcome a sluggish start, appears to be both a steal and a genius.

Granted, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch, and Endo have experienced rather different outcomes in their inaugural season on Merseyside.

The Hungarian had a great start to the season, but after two hamstring injuries, he lost his way in the second half. Although he has shown promise in brief appearances, the Netherlands international has found it difficult to secure a consistent spot in the team.

And as was already established, Endo had a poor start to the campaign but has since shown promise, earning a spot in Klopp’s starting lineup as the season approached its halfway point. That will have astonished many in England, including Liverpool icon Didi Hamann, but not the now 31-year-old.

The German, who left Bayern Munich in 1998 to accept a £5.5 million contract with Newcastle United when he was just 25 years old, has firsthand experience with making the switch from the Bundesliga to the Premier League. The Reds paid £8 million the following year to get Hamann for Anfield.

In addition to winning the UEFA Cup and DFB Pokal with Bayern, Hamann was a two-time Bundesliga champion who also played in the 1999 Champions League final. Even with this experience, though, the Germany international still needed some time to get used to both Newcastle and Liverpool, and his early injuries did not help.

And Hamann, who saw a lot of Endo in the Bundesliga before moving to Liverpool himself, isn’t shocked by his success there, thinking that missing out on Caicedo ended up being a lucky break.

Hamann exclusively told the ECHO, via the help of Free Bets, “No, he hasn’t surprised me.” “You don’t always need the big names; perhaps it was a blessing that I didn’t acquire Caicedo for a hundred million dollars because I knew how good of a player he is.”

“He held together a faltering side. I’ve always said that he’s incredibly disciplined, technically very gifted, two-footed, and a fantastic team player, and I think he will surprise a few people.

“I’m not shocked in the least. He may have needed a few weeks or months to adjust to the Premier League’s brisk speed and rhythm, but he hasn’t shocked me in the slightest. He is a gentleman.

Liverpool great Didi Hamann discusses his public spat with Jurgen Klopp and evaluates the effectiveness of the Reds' midfield makeoverEndo may not have taken Hamann by surprise, but Szoboszlai has—and in more ways than one. The Hungarian’s impressive Anfield debut surprised the German, who isn’t convinced despite his £60 million transfer fee.

Consequently, he is dubious about Szoboszlai’s true level of success as an acquisition, having witnessed the midfielder’s decline in form during the second half of the season.

“It surprised me how well he started because I know from personal experience that it takes some weeks or months to adjust to the Premier League’s fast-paced environment,” he remarked. “His impressive start startled me.

“I felt they spent a lot of money on him. Although I believe he’s a very good player, time will tell.

“As an offensive player, achieving consistency is usually more difficult. Injuries also befell him in the second half of the season, and it’s unclear if he was a wise acquisition overall.

Hamann, a former player for Bayern Munich, witnessed Gravenberch’s struggles in Bavaria the previous season before deciding to transfer to Anfield. The German believes the Netherlands international has more to give despite a patchy start on Merseyside, and he hopes Arne Slot, the new manager, gives him the opportunity to establish himself.

“I believe he’s likely making a slightly bigger difference at Liverpool than he did at Bayern,” he remarked. However, there may be a little more competition at Liverpool for spots.

He must now undoubtedly begin playing regularly and having an impact on the games. He’s been brought in because he’s a large man, he moves briskly, and he can finish.

“He needs to create opportunities and score goals because Liverpool has needed goals from outside the area at certain points this season. He’s had opportunities to establish himself in the past but hasn’t taken them.

“I hope he gets another season; it’s his first, but I think he needs to improve on this one next season.”

Klopp has previously grown enraged by Hamann’s candid evaluations of Liverpool, and the two have frequently exchanged acrimonious comments in the media.

However, the former midfielder for the Reds maintains that he has no animosity towards the soon-to-be-former Liverpool manager and that he intends to have frank conversations with Klopp when they next meet.

He asserted, “I never had a problem with him.” “I realise that my remarks against the team or the club are never personal.

And I am aware that he stands up for the group, the club, and himself. Since it’s evident that this is a high-pressure job, everything is OK.

“I’ve never had a problem with him, and I still don’t, and if he agrees, I’ll talk to him when I see him. Not a bad sensation at all.

Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp is set to make a comeback as new information regarding the Mo Salah altercation surfaced

With just three games left in his tenure as Liverpool’s manager, the German is eager to leave Merseyside on a positive note after his team has only won one of their last five encounters.

With just three games remaining, Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool’s dugout to take a “long break” from football.

During his nearly nine years in charge of the Reds, Klopp has won the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup, the Champions League, and the Premier League. However, at the end of the season, he will conclude his reign on Merseyside.

After leaving Anfield, he is anticipated to take a long hiatus from the game, but rival teams are already making moves at him. The speculation about Klopp’s future began after Ryan Gravenberch expressed his dissatisfaction with Liverpool’s recent decline in performance.

Additionally, new information on Klopp’s altercation with Mohamed Salah following the Reds’ loss to West Ham has surfaced. Mirror Football compiles all of the most recent Liverpool news here.

Klopp prepared to make a comeback

Following his departure from Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund is planning to make an approach for Jurgen Klopp. Although they have suffered since his departure, Klopp headed Dortmund for seven years prior, during which time they won two Bundesliga titles.

In light of those setbacks, the German team is now seeking to reestablish their Bundesliga standing by utilising Klopp’s experience. In 2025, Dortmund plans to hire him as their head of football.

At Signal Iduna Park, there is growing discussion about pursuing this course of action. It has been observed, though, that the German team has brought back some important players from the first Klopp period, which hasn’t done anything to change their fortunes.

Gravenberch acknowledges being let down by the run-in

Ryan Gravenberch, a star for Liverpool, has expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s awful performance. The Reds’ chances of winning the Premier League title have all but vanished as they have only won one of their last five games.

He remarked, “Everyone is disappointed, but we must move on at this time.” This week is Tottenham, so we need to get ready for that, which we will. We need to get ready for them thoroughly. We need to have faith in order to prevail in that match.

It was a very difficult wee. Naturally, you want to win awards as a player, and this will make it very challenging. You must never stop hoping and dreaming, although it will be quite difficult for us. We hoped to win at West Ham, so everyone is upset.”

New details about the Salah spit surface.

Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp is set to make a comeback as new information regarding the Mo Salah altercation surfaced

Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah got into a heated argument after the attacker declined to provide the conventional touchline handshake. Michail Antonio, a standout for West Ham, has recently spoken out about their match.

In the Footballers’ Football Podcast, Antonio stated, “When the [Liverpool] players come on, Klopp always gives them a big hug and says ‘good luck,’ but when Mo came on, he walked in a different direction and was doing his shinpads and stuff like that.”

“Klopp extended his hand to him and held it there for a little while. When Mo stopped what he was doing, he simply gave Klopp a high five.” Naturally, that didn’t sit well with Klopp, who asked, “Do you want to sit back down?” or, more accurately, “Do you want to go on?” And no one has informed me of Mo’s response.”

Before playing Man City, Liverpool plays Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday night. This week at the AXA Training Centre, there were some encouraging indicators.

Despite having a severely injured roster at the beginning of the year, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has managed to keep his team’s hopes of winning the quadruple alive. When the Reds’ youthful players took the pitch in the Carabao Cup final last month, Liverpool was missing eleven men.

After the match, Wembley’s situation deteriorated further with the loss of Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endō, but the Liverpool manager offered no explanations. Luckily for Klopp, Endō was able to play Sunday against Nottingham Forest off the bench alongside Darwin Núñez, who won the game, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Núñez had not played since sustaining an injury at Brentford, and Szoboszlai had only started once since the beginning of January due to a hamstring strain. However, both are now fully recovered and will provide Klopp with a significant lift ahead of this week’s matches against Manchester City and Sparta Prague.

However, it seems that the Anfield manager is about to receive another double boost. In order to get ready for the journey to the Czech capital, Liverpool’s players arrived to the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, and the team shared a number of photos on social media.

Before playing Man City, Liverpool plays Sparta Prague in the Europa League on Thursday night. This week at the AXA Training Centre,

Among them were Gravenberch and Curtis Jones, another injured midfield player who was substituted at Brentford due to an ankle problem. While both players have been spotted using crutches recently, Gravenberch arrived unassisted and moved around freely. Jones, on the other hand, was walking with Andy Robertson while merely wearing a protective boot.

After being sent off at Wembley, it seems Dutch international Gravenberch is the one who is closest to making a comeback. Moisés Caicedo’s late challenge to the 21-year-old resulted in an injury, but Klopp later stated it was a ligament tear rather than a break.

“It’s a ligament injury, it could have been much worse, but it’s bad enough for him to be ruled out for this game, next game, then we will see,” Klopp said last week prior to the FA Cup victory over Southampton. When he addresses the media on Wednesday night, Klopp will probably provide another update, but there’s a chance he might return this week.

Jones, on the other hand, was playing quite well prior to his own injury. Pep Lijnders, the assistant manager of the Reds, reportedly hinted that he will return “around the international break,” which occurs following the FA Cup matchup with Manchester United. That would suggest that he won’t be put in danger before then, but the pictures do seem to show that Liverpool’s injury situation is getting better.

After his own injury problems, Mohamed Salah is anticipated to return to action against Sparta Prague. Klopp will need to decide whether to give him some minutes before to the matchup with City. However, long-term absentees Joël Matip and Thiago Alcântara, as well as Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Diogo Jota, are still sidelined.

According to Liverpool.com: although Gravenberch and Jones might have remained at the training site to complete their recuperation, Liverpool supporters are greatly encouraged by the sight of both players moving around freely and not using crutches or protection. Since Klopp now has few choices and the Reds are still contenders in three competitions, he will be eager to acquire more depth in the upcoming weeks. Whether Gravenberch will be risked against Manchester City or Sparta Prague is still to be determined.

Chelsea was defeated by Liverpool at Wembley to win the Carabao Cup. This is what we saw when Jürgen Klopp’s team celebrated winning their most recent trophy.

WEMBLEY STADIUM LONDON; Liverpool’s performance against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final was outstanding despite the challenging circumstances. A few minutes from time, Virgil van Dijk scored the game-winning goal, but it wasn’t the only amazing moment of the amazing afternoon.

Because of how bad Liverpool’s injury situation was, Bobby Clark and Jayden Danns were major contributors to the win. The latter was at the national stadium despite having just made his U21 debut a few weeks prior.

Despite all the money Chelsea has spent, as well as all the young players who have gone on to succeed elsewhere, Liverpool was a much-weakened team that still managed to win. Maybe there’s a lesson for Todd Boehly and company there.

This might be a significant boost ahead of a thrilling finish to the season, in which Liverpool still has a chance to win three titles before Jürgen Klopp leaves. The Reds are aware that they can overcome obstacles even in difficult situations.

These are the four things that Liverpool.com noticed on the Wembley pitch during the trophy celebrations. After an incredible display of character from his team, Klopp undoubtedly enjoyed his time.

Virgil van Dijk and Jürgen Klopp shares trophy duties.

4 things observed during the Liverpool trophy lift, including a emotional scene and a hint from Ryan Gravenberch.

After Jordan Henderson moved for Saudi Arabia in the summer and Van Dijk was designated Liverpool’s permanent captain, this was the first prize he had raised. Although Liverpool would hope otherwise, Klopp may take this trophy as his last, so it is fitting that they both had the responsibility of carrying it above their heads.

Van Dijk led a bunch of players who, at the end, looked more like an Academy team. This was quite a performance. The Dutchman nodded in the winning goal, and he was the senior body.

    Liverpool coaches’ YNWA

Naturally, Klopp is not the only one leaving Liverpool at the conclusion of the season. Here, he was accompanied by Pep Lijnders as they sang a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone. Along with Vitor Matos and Peter Krawietz, the Dutch assistant coach will be sorely missed at the AXA Training Centre.

The Liverpool coaching staff will have the opportunity to celebrate at least one more before the season ends (at the season’s last home game at Anfield). However, the Reds will also be hoping for more celebrations at Wembley.

    Ryan Gravenberch using crutches

4 things observed during the Liverpool trophy lift, including a emotional scene and a hint from Ryan Gravenberch.

There was another injury to add to the absurd list of absences that Klopp is already dealing with, which was one aspect of the day that Liverpool would not have appreciated. Moisés Caicedo knocked Gravenberch hard enough to bend his ankle the incorrect direction, which cannot be healthy.

With crutches to assist him walk and a protective boot on his left foot, he hobbled back onto the ground to celebrate at the conclusion. The amount of the damage will probably be determined by scans, and Liverpool can revisit that in a few hours. For the time being, nothing, not even another possible setback, can take away the joy from those jumping around on the Wembley pitch.

Squad members positioned themselves arm in arm.

Some players leaped into each other’s arms, while Caoimhín Kelleher and Adrián were seen cuddling. At Wembley, the entire Liverpool team stood in front of the Reds supporters, creating a touching and sentimental scene.

As Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars played in the background, Alexis Mac Allister carried the trophy back into the dressing room, trailed by a dancing Harvey Elliott and Kenny Dalglish down the tunnel.

Even though Klopp will be replaced as head coach in a few months, this team has a strong sense of unity. This Reds team can win a lot more games together, as evidenced by that camaraderie and the overwhelming quality and depth that the new manager will need to use. That might occur prior to Klopp’s departure, assuming the quadruple remains active.

Liverpool May make five changes against Chelsea as defender returns

Liverpool will play Chelsea when they return to Premier League action in an attempt to hold onto their five-point advantage.

Liverpool defeated Norwich City and advanced to the FA Cup fifth round with a five-star performance.

Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk, and Ryan Gravenberch were the five different goal scorers in the 5-2 victory. The best of the lot was Conor Bradley, who set up two goals and helped rookie James McConnell locate Jones for the first goal.

On Wednesday, the Premier League will resume with a practice match between Chelsea and Liverpool ahead of their Carabao Cup final next month. This matchup is a rematch of their first game, in which Luis Diaz’s initial goal was cancelled out by Axel Disasi in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Despite not being utilised as a substitute in Sunday’s victory, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s appearance was a step in the right direction towards his knee injury recuperation. The vice captain of Liverpool raised concerns when he was injured and missed the Carabao Cup semifinal matchup with Fulham as well as the victory over the Cherries. However, his comeback puts Jurgen Klopp in a difficult defensive situation.

Since taking over for the England international, Bradley hasn’t made a mistake. After four straight starts, Sunday’s Player of the Match may be able to hold onto his right-back spot, but Klopp’s confidence will be put to the test by Chelsea’s danger.

The same is true at left-back, where Joe Gomez has excelled since stepping in for Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas. Robertson, who has been out since October due to a shoulder injury, made his much-awaited comeback to the pitch on Sunday. Although Klopp is pleased with his prompt comeback, the form of Gomez and the likelihood of ring rust for the Scot support the England defender’s claim to stay in the starting lineup.

    Alexis Mac Allister hint

On Sunday, Virgil van Dijk scored from the bench to replace Ibrahima Konate, and Jarell Quansah got the start. However, a defensive pairing of Van Dijk and Konate is probable given Joel Matip’s injury.

He sensed a slight discomfort, so we simply answered, “No, no, and I don’t want to know more,” and that was that. We allowed him to relax. After the victory on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp stated, “I think he should be ready for Wednesday.”

Liverpool May make five changes against Chelsea as defender returns

During the Carabao Cup victory over Fulham in midweek, Mac Allister sustained a serious injury. At Craven Cottage, the Argentine could proceed without any issues.

The 25-year-old’s absence from the victory over Norwich was unjustified, but based on Klopp’s response, it appears that he was given the option to rest.

In his complete Liverpool debut, McConnell filled in as a substitute, and he did a near flawless job playing deep number six.

Mac Allister’s form has improved after a difficult beginning. Wataru Endo, a midfielder for Japan, has asserted his right to return as the holding player while he is still on Asia Cup duty.

Jones was substituted just before the hour mark on Sunday because Liverpool was leading 3-1 and he needed a break. Harvey Elliott, who might have suggested a return to the midfield trio that began the match against AFC Bournemouth, was not allowed to play. Strong cameo by Dominik Szoboszlai, who made his competitive football comeback after suffering a hamstring injury in the New Year’s Day victory over Newcastle United was encouraging.

    Nunez on the left?

On Sunday, Nunez and Jota were both in the goals. Six minutes after Ben Gibson’s equaliser, Nunez gave Liverpool the lead again with a powerful finish into the bottom corner.

Shortly after the hour, Cody Gakpo took the Uruguayan’s place on the pitch. Eight minutes after the restart, Jota extended his scoring run to give the Reds a two-goal lead. Mohamed Salah’s hamstring injury has kept him out of action for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations, even though DR Congo eliminated Egypt on Sunday.

To keep the Colombian going, Luis Diaz was given an 11-minute cameo, maybe with an eye towards Wednesday. Nunez, Jota, and Diaz should be given starting berths based on their performance in previous games, as they did against AFC Bournemouth.

Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch reacted to the Liverpool news yesterday.

Liverpool received some good news yesterday with Alexis McAllister returning to full training from injury and Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch showing him some love on Instagram.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are leading the Premier League. They have had a great season so far and are undoubtedly one of the favorites to win the title. Now the news of Mac Allister’s return gives even more power. Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch are in action as Alexis McAllister returns to Liverpool training.

Liverpool signed Alexis McAllister from Brighton & Hove Albion this summer. The Argentinian has made a good start under Jurgen Klopp and although he has attracted some criticism for his unnatural six-man play, he should be happy with his current position. Unfortunately, Mc Allister picked up a serious injury against Sheffield United earlier this month. He required stitches at halftime in that game and was later sent off as he was unable to continue. The midfielder has not played for the Reds since, but there is good news at the end.

Mac Allister returned to training yesterday and is expected to feature in Monday’s game against Newcastle United. The Argentine took to Instagram to celebrate his return. Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenbirch expressed their love for her in the comments below her post. McAllister’s return is a timely boost for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp will be delighted to have Alexis McAllister back. Not just because he’s a fantastic player, but also because another member of the squad will be missing soon.

Like Mohamed Salah, Wataru Endo is expected to play for his country after Monday’s game against Newcastle United. Klopp does not have another defensive midfielder available in Endo’s absence, leaving a huge hole in Liverpool’s midfield.

McAlister has played for Liverpool this season, although he is not the number 6. His return will be a welcome boost to a difficult January season, with United now facing Arsenal, Fulham, Bournemouth and Chelsea.

An ex-Red said he “would be gutted” to see a “sensational” player depart Liverpool, drawing parallels with the Madrid duo.

Steve McManaman, who called the 26-year-old “absolutely priceless,” said he “would be gutted” to see one player in particular leave Liverpool.

Joe Gomez has been playing for Anfield the longest since Jordan Henderson left for Saudi Arabia in the summer, and he has been playing well lately.

After joining Brendan Rodgers from Charlton in 2015, the adaptable defender has won every major award imaginable while playing on Merseyside.

Gomez is “just as important as the superstars,” according to former ex-Red player McManaman, who recently filled in for the injured Kostas Tsimikas at left back.

He said to Liverpool Echo (via Rousing The Kop) that “I would be gutted if he left because people like Gomez are absolutely priceless to you at a football club.”

    Steve McManaman

“Going back to Real Madrid, they have two players who have been there for more than ten years: Lucas Vasquez and Nacho. They are adored by their teammates, if you ask any of them about their opinions. They remain there because of this.

“Players like that are essential to teams and hold equal importance with superstars.”

The London-born player is a fantastic player when he’s on his game, so we’re happy to see him succeeding right now.

McManaman is right to commend the England international because he’s always eager to lend a hand to the team when needed.

Having played every position in our backline this season, he is currently our sole senior option capable of playing left back because Tsimikas and Andy Robertson are both out.

Gomez, who has been described by Jurgen Klopp as a “sensational footballer” (via Liverpoolfc.com), has not yet scored for the Reds, but in recent weeks he has been coming closer, since his position as a full-back allows him to penetrate dangerous areas higher upfield.

If he could lead us to a win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day, it would be a fantastic way to start 2024—we’ll have to wait and see!

Liverpool could make five changes against Newcastle, With the return of injuries

The Premier League matchup between Liverpool and Newcastle is coming up, and Jurgen Klopp may have some difficult choices to make.

On Boxing Day, Liverpool defeated a struggling Burnley team to continue their strong Premier League play.

After substituting for Darwin Nunez late in the game, Diogo Jota scored his first goal as the Reds defeated Arsenal 2-0 at Turf Moor to go two points clear of the leaders despite having played one more game.

On New Year’s Day, Liverpool will now play Newcastle United in the Premier League, who are currently in poor form. And here we look ahead to the adjustments Jurgen Klopp could make when his club are next in action.

Although Klopp used a more extensive rotation than maybe expected against Burnley, the players will be well-rested after their two days off because they had a demanding December schedule to finish. This implies that the manager of the Reds will probably start as strong a lineup as possible when Newcastle comes to town.

Alisson Becker is anticipated to stay in goal, with Caoimhin Kelleher ready for League Cup and maybe FA Cup action in the first part of January. Adrian comes in third. Due to injuries to Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas, Luke Chambers will cover for the versatile Joe Gomez at left back for the time being. Trent Alexander-Arnold leads the right-back position, with Conor Bradley, who is back in shape, serving as his backup.

Although Ibrahima Konate was rested against Burnley, he is expected to start alongside captain Virgil van Dijk at centre back in place of the excellent Jarell Quansah. The season is over for Joel Matip.

    Mac Allister boost?

Liverpool could make five changes against Newcastle, With the return of injuries

Given that the Argentine can play left of the trio as well as number six, Liverpool may have more alternatives in the engine room with the possible return of Alexis Mac Allister.

Wataru Endo, who has been playing well in defensive midfield lately, is available one last time before serving with Japan in the Asia Cup. Curtis Jones took Ryan Gravenberch’s starting position against Burnley and will be vying for the starting position.

Harvey Elliott was benched in favour of Dominik Szoboszlai on the right side of the midfield trio, where the two are still in competition for the position. While Bobby Clark and James McConnell, two young players, have recently been used as substitutes in the Premier League, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic remain out.

Jota’s comeback is especially welcome as Mohamed Salah will be heading to the Africa Cup of Nations following Monday’s game; but, the Portuguese player might not be prepared to play after a one-month absence.

Against Burnley, Nunez and Cody Gakpo both made strong plays down the middle and on the left, challenging for a starting spot in either position. Luis Diaz is another contender for a left-wing position; he came off the bench to help Jota.

This season, Salah has been a constant on the right side; in Ben Doak’s absence, Elliott and Kaide Gordon are the backups.

The team would consequently have a two-point lead at the top of the table with a victory at the Etihad, which would be its first in the Premier League since 2015. That is, at least until Arsenal’s match against Brentford on Saturday night. If Liverpool loses, though, they might finish the weekend ranked fourth.

The choice to start the game around midday irked Jürgen Klopp, who told the media that those in charge ‘cannot feel football’ (via The Guardian). Although the club’s official website states that all four of his South American players, goalkeeper Alisson, midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, and forwards Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez, trained on Thursday, there may have been some worry about how they would handle the quick turnaround. Here, Liverpool.com compiles the remaining Anfield injury news prior to kickoff.

Curtis Jones Ryan Gravenberc, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konaté

    Curtis Jones Ryan Gravenberc

Participating in the workout on Thursday were all four of the players who missed the 3-0 victory over Brentford due to short-term ailments. Thus, Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones may compete for a midfield position, and Joël Matip and Ibrahima Konaté will fight for a right-sided center-back position with Virgil van Dijk. Konaté was forced to withdraw from the France team for the international break. Joe Gomez, who is recovered from injury, is another contender to start at left back instead of Kostas Tsimikas. He did so in the 1-1 draw against Luton earlier this month.

Thiago, Andy Robertson and Stefan Bajčetić

Long-term absentees for Liverpool are not yet prepared to make a comeback. If the initial three-month diagnosis turns out to be accurate, Andy Robertson won’t return from surgery on a dislocated shoulder until late January. Thiago has also been ruled out until the New Year. Stefan Bajčetić, who returned from a catastrophic injury but only managed to play two games before breaking down again, is still being closely monitored by the club. The Spaniard has not yet appeared to train fully with his colleagues.

During Klopp’s press conference, there might be an additional update on the trio’s progress as well as the conditions of Gravenberch, Jones, Gomez, and Konaté. That is set for Friday at noon UK time, and Liverpool.com will cover every story.

Liverpool has been mentioned as a possible transfer partner for the 22-year-old Premier League player.

    Rayan Ait-Nouri

Although it is unlikely that a trade will be completed in January, Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri is apparently of interest to Liverpool.

This is based on reports from the French publication Le 10 Sport, which is unsure of the extent of Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old and whether or not they have contacted him.

Ait-Nouri has shown promise while playing for Wolves, and he seems like a capable long-term successor for Andrew Robertson at Liverpool. However, it’s unlikely that the Reds will view this as an immediate priority at this point.

However, Ait-Nouri is talented enough to transfer to a larger club, so it would be wise to monitor the Algerian international’s status in the next days, weeks, and months.

Le 10 Sport reports that it appears improbable that Wolves will allow the player to leave without a fight, so it may need to wait until next summer, and even then, it’s unclear how much he would cost.

Jurgen Klopp has delivered some worrying news to Liverpool fans as three of their key stars will miss the Thursday’s Europa League clash with Toulouse.

The Merseyside club beat the French club in five games at Anfield in the latest Ligue 1 competition.

The Premier League club travel to France for the return leg after being held to a 1-1 draw by Luton Town on Sunday.

Liverpool will also be without three key stars, with Virgil van Dijk (illness), Gravenberch (knee) and Jones (knee) ruled out for the Toulouse clash, according to Neil Jones.

Klopp said at his Wednesday night press conference that Van Dijk should return for Liverpool’s games against Brentford and Gravenburch on Sunday, but Klopp revealed that Jones will not be available until after the international break.

Liverpool will be sorely missing these stars on Thursday, but they have the players to beat Toulouse without them. But the Reds will need their two stars for Brentford as Wasps present a different challenge.

Trindade Andre Liverpool transfer news as the president of Fluminense provides an update following their January “agreement.”

Mario Bittencourt, the president of Fluminense, provided an update on Andre Trindade, a transfer target for Liverpool.

Mario Bittencourt, the president of Fluminense, has acknowledged that he anticipates Andre Trindade, a target for Liverpool, leaving the team in January.

Midway through their domestic season, Fluminense informed the Reds that they had no intention of moving the midfield player. The Reds had contacted the Brazilian club in the summer.

A choice of that kind was taken with the intention of winning the Copa Libertadores. And in an update on the Brazil international’s future, Bittencourt said he anticipates receiving a club-record bid for Andre following next month’s FIFA Club World Cup. Fluminense defeated Boca Juniors in Saturday’s final to win South American championships for the first time in their history.

“We have to wait. There isn’t a specific idea for Andre as of yet,” he said to Globo. However, we have little doubt that a soaring proposal will come after the World Cup—which he will play in.

“It might be the club’s largest sale ever.” Both Andre and Nino, the defender, are potential losses, but we are trying to find their replacements.

In the meantime, Andre’s representative, Carlos Leite, has revealed the details of his discussions with Bittencourt about his client’s future at the beginning of the year and in the summer, hinting at Liverpool’s rumoured summer bid.

The president of Fluminense requested a meeting with Leite at the beginning of 2023 in order to express his desire for the midfield player to remain at Fluminense until January 2024.

Leite told Globo, “He came to me and said that Fluminense had no interest in selling André this year.” “I spoke with the player and gave him an explanation; he accepted the concept. We decided that it would only be exchanged starting in January 2024.

“It might be the club’s largest sale ever.” Both Andre and Nino, the defender, are potential losses, but we are trying to find their replacements.

Unless Fluminense has a change of heart. He is not obligated to sell anyone, therefore he had no need to sit with me. But this was his worry.

“He lacks the conceit and haughtiness that some people possess, saying things like, ‘Find my director.’”

In the summer, Liverpool made a £150 million overhaul of their midfield by adding Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister. They haven’t had a natural first-choice holding midfielder since the unannounced departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia, though, which has forced them to negotiate with Fluminense after losing out on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

While they primarily used Mac Allister as a holding midfielder in the interim, the Reds would eventually recruit Endo from VfB Stuttgart instead. However, it’s unclear if Liverpool intends to rekindle their interest in Andre come January.

His services are still being linked to teams other than the Reds. According to reports, they sent representatives to the Copa Libertadores final to watch the midfield player, along with Arsenal and Fulham.

But Andre will undoubtedly transfer for a record sum for Fluminense no matter where he ends up. In January 2016, Gerson signed a €17 million contract to join AS Roma, which is now their most costly exit

The former Liverpool icon is performing well in his new surroundings after leaving Anfield on a free transfer…

Liverpool moved a number of players away from Anfield in the summer transfer window, with the old guard phased out by Jurgen Klopp to bring new talents such as Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch into the building.

James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and others have all been let go by Klopp in his search for new, fresh players, with Fabinho and Henderson opting for a move to Saudi Arabia.
The latter joined Al-Ettifaq with former teammate Steven Gerrard, who will now work in the Middle East.

A third departure from Liverpool would also join the mega-bucks of the Saudi Pro League. Roberto Firmino ended his eight-year relationship with the Reds to join Al-Ahli, later linking up with former Premier League players Ryad Mahrez and Allan Saint-Maximin.
    .
How much did Liverpool sign Roberto Firmino for?

Recruited by Brendan Rodgers for £21.3 million in the 2015/16 summer transfer window – Klopp only joined the Reds in October – Firmino has become an integral part of Liverpool and a key player in the success that the German coach brought to Anfield.

In his first season for the club after leaving Hoffenheim, he scored a total of 49 goals for the Bundesliga club before Liverpool poached the Brazilian.
He scored ten goals and became Liverpool’s top scorer in the league.

He would go on to score double the number of goals for the Reds over the next three seasons.
His best season in a Liverpool shirt came in the 2017/18 season – the Brazilian center forward scored 15 goals and laid the foundations of an unstoppable top-three team.

Firmino – along with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane – wreaked havoc on elite defenses for several seasons, terrifying Premier League defenders and scoring an incredible 338 goals between them.
However, while Liverpool won the coveted Premier League at the end of the 2019/20 season, Firmino only scored nine goals.

The Brazilian’s emotional final match at Anfield showed just how much the Liverpool masses had idolized the striker.
He scored in the semi-final against Aston Villa in a 1-1 draw, with the striker visibly celebrating emotionally.

With 362 appearances for Liverpool – all mainly during Klopp’s tenure – Firmino was described as a Liverpool legend by pundits and fans alike when he left on a free transfer.

Even Liverpool striker Ian Rush described Firmino as the “skillest number nine Liverpool have ever had” following his move to Saudi Arabia, a glowing compliment from the Welshman, who also wore the same number.

How is Firmino doing in Saudi Arabia?

Firmino came straight into Al-Ahli’s lineup, having been named captain of his new Saudi side before a ball had even been kicked.

He has so far scored three goals in ten appearances for his new employers in the Middle East.
All three of these goals came against Al-Hazem on his debut, his second of the match, assisted by Ryad Mahrez.

He has also been altruistic towards Al-Ahli so far.
He assisted two more goals and one of those assists recently helped his Saudi team win 1-0 against Al-Okhdood. Franck Kessie took advantage with a last-minute winner.

Early years at Al-Ahli suggest Firmino will not treat this move as a holiday as he approaches retirement.
Rather, it’s an opportunity to become a star again after leaving Liverpool behind.
So far, he has scored more goals and assists than even Szoboszlai in a Reds shirt – the always impressive Hungarian midfielder has only scored twice this season without notching an assist.

But Firmino’s time with Klopp’s side is over and Liverpool fans will now be closely watching how the Brazilian performs in Saudi Arabia, hoping that their former icon excels in his new surroundings.
