Liverpool to offer £84 million to sign a forward compared to Mohamed Salah

Liverpool are interested in signing Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton, a former teammate of Wataru Endo, according to reports in Germany.

The Reds will attempt to add fresh players during the summer transfer window as they prepare for their debut season under new head coach Arne Slot. They are thought to be looking for a new centre-back, with Joel Matip leaving this month after his contract expired.

According to German outlet Sport BILD, Liverpool is interested in Anton, who recently led Stuttgart to an impressive second-place finish in the Bundesliga, surpassing Bayern Munich and qualifying for the Champions League.

If Anton does join Liverpool, it will not be the first time the Reds have signed Stuttgart’s captain, as they did with Endo last summer. The Japan international instantly became a fan favourite at Anfield, appearing 44 times and scoring three goals in 2023/24.

Before deciding on his club future, Anton will first navigate the European Championships, where Germany will compete for continental cutlery on home soil. They started their campaign with a 5-1 victory over Scotland on Friday night.

Virgil van Dijk is poised to enter the final year of his contract at Anfield, with his future uncertain despite his dedication to helping the club build in the post-Jurgen Klopp era. A fresh face in defence would be excellent news for Liverpool.

Youngster Jarell Quansah made steady progress last season and was named to England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad before being cut from the final team. Joe Gomez has mostly been used as a full-back in the last year, while Ibrahima Konate is still a key member of Liverpool’s backline but has frequently struggled with injury since joining from RB Leipzig in 2021.

Liverpool to offer £84 million to sign a forward compared to Mohamed Salah

A far cry from the days when Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and the Egypt international were Jurgen Klopp's uncontested

Liverpool have made an offer to sign a player that Troy Deeney believes is better than Mohamed Salah.

A far cry from the days when Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and the Egypt international were Jurgen Klopp’s unconteste frontline, Liverpool’s attacking department is now rather uncertain, with questions about Luis Diaz’s future.

Liverpool may have made a significant bid for a Brazilian forward, according to Spanish media.

Liverpool make an offer to Rodrygo.

According to SPORT, Liverpool have made an offer of €100 million (£84 million) to buy Real Madrid No. 11 Rodrygo.

The Spanish news agency believes Real Madrid is willing to sell the Brazil international for €150 million (£127 million) – despite the additions of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick – but has rejected Liverpool’s offer.

SPORT feel Rodrygo would prefer to stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, if it becomes clear that Mbappe and Endrick would take away minutes from him, the South American will want a transfer to the Premier League from Real Madrid.

Rodrygo impressed in the 2023/24 season, helping Real Madrid win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League for the 15th time, scoring 17 goals and giving nine assists in 51 games across all competitions.

As previously said, Deeney believes the 23-year-old is better than Salah.

Reds appear to be enamoured with the Brazilian.

A far cry from the days when Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and the Egypt international were Jurgen Klopp's uncontested

Of course, managers and recruiting staff come and go, and transfer targets change all the time, but Liverpool appears to have been attempting to sign Rodrygo since at least 2019.

Elano, who was previously at Manchester City and Interim Manager of Rodrygo’s former club Santos at the time of his rise, told ESPN that Liverpool expressed “strong interest” in the attacker while he was still a member of the Brazilian side’s development ranks.

The 42-year-old stated that Liverpool was really interested in the child while he was in the lower categories (at Santos) and wanted to buy him, but the offer was too cheap. Then came the offer from Madrid.”

Liverpool have clearly adored Rodrygo for many years, and that admiration does not appear to have waned despite suspicions of this £84 million deal.

Liverpool transfer news is live, as Arne Slot is expected to make signings during the summer window.

However, in order to fund the transactions, the Reds may have to release some players. Liverpool will soon be able to add to its team, with the summer transfer market just days away. It might be a busy few months following Arne Slot’s arrival.

The next Reds manager will enter pre-season without a slew of first-team players, but with a large Liverpool contingent at both Euro 2024 and Copa America. Luis Diaz will be among them, and he has spoken openly about his own future.

Slot and new sporting director Richard Hughes will have to make decisions on the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are all out of contract in a year.

Transfer rumours are circulating on both the arriving and outgoing fronts, with Van Dijk’s international teammate appearing as a possible successor, while Liverpool may also make attacking reinforcements.

Liverpool ‘seeks information’ on Waldemar Anton

Liverpool has requested information about Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton, according to SportBild.

The 27-year-old made his Germany debut this year. He led Stuttgart to an outstanding second-place finish, edging Bayern Munich on the final day.

Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are also rumoured to be interested in Anton. He will be available for $24 million (£19 million/€22.5 million) thanks to a release provision in his contract.

    Ederson speaks about Liverpool transfers.

    Joe Gomez

Ederson, an Atalanta midfielder, has addressed the questions around his future. The defensive midfielder has been linked with Liverpool.

“I like Italy but I’m also curious about the Premier League,” he stated to AS.

“The only possibility to leave is if Atalanta receive a proposal and then… they decide, it’s up to Atalanta.”

Those remarks are guaranteed to fuel the flames of Liverpool connections. If Arne Slot decides to reinforce his midfield, a number six similar to Ederson appears to be the most likely signing.

Liverpool ‘increase’ bid for Joao Neves.

    Joe Gomez

Liverpool has ‘identified’ Joao Neves as a key midfield target in the current transfer window. It will increase its efforts to sign the 19-year-old from Benfica.

That was reported in the print issue of the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manha, which Paisley Gates shared. A proposal is likely within the next several days.

However, there is thought to be a lot of interest. To that end, Benfica is unwilling to accept offers below the staggering $129 million release clause (£101 million/€120 million).

Joe Gomez is wanted by bayern Munich

    Joe Gomez

Vincent Kompany is targeting Joe Gomez when he takes over at Bayern Munich. That is according to the Mirror.

Kompany prioritises defensive additions, and he appreciates Gomez’s versatility. Last season, the 27-year-old featured across Liverpool’s backline.

Liverpool, for its side, regards him as a ‘hugely important player’ and is poised to issue a ‘hands-off caution’.

    Ouedraogo to Leipzig.

Assan Ouedraogo is about to join RB Leipzig. The Bundesliga club intends to trigger his $11 million (£8 million/€10 million) release clause.

BILD recently connected Liverpool to the Schalke starlet. However, Florian Plettenberg claims that Leipzig has moved to finalise the agreement for the 18-year-old.

Ouedraogo will sign a deal till 2029. Leipzig want to analyse his performance in preseason before determining whether to loan him out, with a temporary return to Schalke being considered.

Newcastle and Chelsea both ‘pushed’ to hijack the transaction.
