Ten players depart Liverpool as Arne Slot starts the post-Jurgen Klopp era’s makeover.

Ten players, including Thiago and Joel Matip, are departing Liverpool as the club approves the exits of many stars whose contracts at Anfield expired last month.
As Arne Slot takes over, the ten out-of-contract Liverpool players have now departed Anfield, with Thiago being one of the more well-known departures.
The Reds had already announced that a number of players, whose contracts were set to expire at the end of June, would not be staying at Anfield and would instead be moving on to new pastures. Slot started working recently and is currently reviewing the team that he took over from Jurgen Klopp.
After a spell of injuries on Merseyside, Thiago, who originally signed with Bayern Munich in 2020, was granted permission to depart. The Spaniard was supposed to do a lot, and while he occasionally lived up to the expectations, he never did.
The other well-known figure who has been let to depart is Joel Matip. The Cameroonian was one of the players that joined Virgil van Dijk at the centre of defence during the team’s victory in the 2019 Champions League final. But just like Thiago, he was always getting hurt.
After Matip’s years of service, Klopp had stated he hoped Liverpool would offer him a new contract, but that hasn’t happened. “I’m pretty sure the club will show their class, just as they should,” he stated. “I believe they have already informed Joel that whatever occurs, as long as he is hurt, everything will be OK. We now need to decide with Joel what to do next.
That’s a typical action, but he deserves all of our support, and he will receive it. Although I would argue that he merits a new contract, it is not my choice. I am unable to sign these documents.”
Other academy talents Mateusz Musialowski, Adam Lewis, and Melkamu Frauendorf have also been granted permission to depart. Lewis made his first-team debut in an FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town in February 2020, but he had spent the previous four seasons on loan. All three of the players have represented the senior team. Frauendorf’s debut versus Shrewsbury was also her first start. Musialowski was out for the first time this year in March.
Other academy players who have left Liverpool include Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington. They’ll have to look for work somewhere else. In his first summer, Slot has a few more important decisions to make.
Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah’s futures are still up for debate. Clubs in Saudi Arabia are interested in Salah because he can still cost a high fee, while Nunez has struggled to score on a consistent basis even after signing for a high price.
Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip, Adam Lewis, Melkamu Frauendorf, Mateusz Musialowski, Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington are the entire list of Liverpool players who have left.
