Anderson Arroyo is hoping to help Alaves return to La Liga in his sixth loan spell away from Liverpool
It’s been two weeks since Liverpool’s season ended with an entertaining 4-4 draw at relegated Southampton.
But for a player still on the Reds’ books, the domestic campaign is only now reaching a tipping point.
Anderson Arroyo, who signed for Liverpool in February 2018, is hoping to play for Alaves in the first leg of their play-off against Levante for promotion to La Liga on Sunday night.
In terms of playing time, it’s been a frustrating season for the 23-year-old Colombian defender, who has started just two league games since the start of November, but played the last 18 minutes of a 2-0 win against Eibar. in the second leg three days ago.
It’s his sixth move of a Reds roaming career, having first appeared on their radar after playing alongside compatriot Luis Diaz for Colombia at the 2017 South American U20 Championship.
Arroyo signed a new contract with Liverpool last season to extend his commitment until 2025 but is yet to secure a work permit to play for the Reds and as such has not even played for any of the academy sides despite having only 18 years old. . at the first signature.
He was shipped to Mallorca soon after signing five years ago and spent the rest of the season for their B team.
He continued his development the following season at Ghent in Belgium alongside Taiwo Awoniyi – now at Nottingham Forest – but he didn’t play for the senior team, so he spent the 2019/20 season with Bulgarian Mlada Boleslav, making just two first-team appearances.

Finally, in the 2020/21 season, Arroyo was a regular feature in Salamanca’s starting XI in the third tier of Spanish football and played almost all of last season in Liga B as a centre-back at Mirandes.
Arroyo will now be hoping to help his current side – who were beaten 5-4 by Liverpool in the 2001 UEFA Cup final – to an immediate return to La Liga after last season’s relegation, with the second leg taking place next Saturday.
Still, it’s very likely the defender – a figure forgotten by Liverpool fans – will never wear a shirt for the Reds.
